American Public Health Assoc. opposes Holsinger.

Today, the American Public Health Association, the nation’s largest organization of public health professionals, announced its opposition to the nomination of Dr. James Holsinger to become the next Surgeon General. From its letter to Sens. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Mike Enzi (R-WY):

APHA is very concerned with Dr. Holsinger’s past writings regarding his views of homosexuality, which put his political and religious ideology before established medical science. We have long opposed discrimination against individuals based on their sexual orientation. At a time when one of our association’s top priorities is to eliminate disparities in health, including disparities in the gay and lesbian community, we cannot support a nominee with discredited and non-evidence-based views on sexuality.

We are hopeful that the Senate will reject his nomination and urge the president to put forth another nominee.

which put his political and religious ideology before established medical science.

Can’t this be said about every single one of the loyal bushies?

Gee, if nobody in the healthcare profession wants this @ssclown, then Dubya will be sure to put him in place. All of his other appointments have been totally underqualified too. (i.e. Chertoff, Rice, Gonzo, Brownie, Petreus, Mieirs, etc.)

On the same day that former Surgeon General Richard Carmona told Congress about the politicization of his office by the White House, a bizarre story from China served as a reminder of other past Bush wrong-doing at the FDA. The Beijing government punished the former head of the Chinese Food and Drug Administration for approving bogus medicine in exchange for cash. Which sounds like President Bush’s former FDA chief, Dr. Lester Crawford.

    For the details, see:
“Politics and Crime at the FDA.”

So…do you think the strong opinion of the world’s largest association of public health professionals will influence Herr Schimpanse’s decision?

    Any bets?

Nobody is too incompetent for Bush to give them a big job.

Oh, only if we could follow China in executing those who stole this country, made us less safe, usurped all of the protective agencies.

What a wet dream that is!

“non-evidence-based thinking” is a clunky way to put it. It’s time to call this idiocy what it is: magical thinking.

Good luck with the struggle. Looks like the religion-nazis are desperate to keep everyone under their fat, greasy thumbs.

Hey you guys are missing the point my is Bush putting a guy who is obviously under qualified and homophobia before a committee that includes 3 presidential candidates Clinton, Obama, and Dodd. Bush wants them to caught in a catch 22 either they confirm him and he gets a new Bushie in or the refuse the nomination and the Republicans can spin this that the Democrats are trying to promote the Gay agenda. We would like to think this President is an idiot but he knows all he has to do is flair up is base that views these “moral, family issues” as detrimental to their 2009 vote in order to at least give any Republican candidate an outside chance.

A big fat thank you to the APHA…..

I hope the HRC gets involved in this. If this guy gets in there..we are f*cked. The right wingers will ship us off to another country.

    mmmmm? thinking…thinking….mmm

Chad you make a good point. They’ve been readying for this stunt for months, and Holsinger’s homophobic views have been hyped all over the blogs in preparation of this.

I think it’s a conspiracy to frame democrats, just like the decision by the courts to ban racial integration.

I also believe former Surgeon General Richard Carmona’s late outing is all playing into that. He had all the time in the world to denounce this administration, and he’s only doing it now to further hype up Holsinger’s nom?

Will anyone ever get how the decider thinks? He’s a psycho. He’ll do it because…. you don’t like it ! Thats hows he gets off…

  16. Zooey says:

    Holsinger’s a shoo-in now….

  17. LucieLee says:

I hope this nomination, will never make it out of committee…….but fearing the way things have gone in the past The Democratic Majority will probably allow it to go through, because they will use the excuse…”Bush will recess-appoint anyhow”, this is no way to show leadership……and sadly the wrong person will be put in a position of power, just to fill a vacancy.

It’s ironic that this all occurs under such a gay administration.

  19. nanlichi says:

Bush is ostensibly the most religious pResident we have ever had. And he has acted on his convictions to stifle science and promote his ideological, Puritanical view on the world.

And we get f*cked at every turn. The biggest one is his Crusade against Iraq, but his religion rots everything it touches. Stem cell research, global warming, Grand Canyon was created by The Flood, Faith based guano, no condoms for AID prevention, even a litmus test for appointees.

“Have you accepted Jebus as you personal saviour? Yes? Well then, welcome aboard. You don’t need no stinking experience”

And the Bush supporters are cut of the same cloth. They are predisposed to ignore facts and reality in favor of a myth told by their Father figure.

    Pinche braindead zombies.
