President Bush makes little girls cry.

By Amanda Terkel on Jul 11th, 2007 at 11:59 am

President Bush makes little girls cry.

Yesterday at his town hall event in Cleveland, Jessica Hackerd, a “13-year old blonde-headed girl,” asked Bush what his “next step with the immigration bill” will be. “Mr. Bush’s sarcastic reply — a wry ‘yeah, thanks’ — drew laughter from the crowd of 400. But the attention caused young Jessica…to immediately tear up. ‘No, it’s a great question. No, I appreciate that,’ Mr. Bush said, as he saw Jessica’s reaction.”

Digg It!

This asshole did the same thing at the opening of the new White House press room:

As the reporters strained to offer questions, Bush said, “Let’s do this. Let me cut the ribbon … and then why don’t you all yell simultaneously. Like, really loudly. And that way, you might get noticed. I’ll, like, listen, internalize, play like I’m gonna answer the question, and then smile at you and just say ‘got it. Thanks. Thanks for such a solid, sound question.’”

Calling this event a town hall meeting is a travesty. Bush has never had a single un-screened audience. The town hall should be a building where all may enter regardless of political affiliation. At a real town hall meeting, anyone would be able to ask the President anything. Please don’t dignify this propaganda stunt with that euphamism.

Town hall meetings are for democracies. We all know that’s not what we’ve got.

What’s “completely sad” is that you seem to think that anyone not a card-carrying Republican could get within 100 yards of one of Chimpy’s “town hall events”.

Chimpy never places himself in a position where a person could ask him a real question. Every “spontaneous” public appearance is a carefully planned and staged performance. Questions the public wants to ask Chimpy are vetted beforehand, and they are warned that if they deviate from the pre-approved question by as much as a word, their mics will be cut.

Liberals in a Chimpy town hall event…now that’s rich.

But when the president finished taking questions, an aide immediately went to Jessica and took her backstage.

After Mr. Bush had finished shaking hands for over 10 minutes, he met with Jessica and her family.

When little Jessica went off-script (or, more probably, asked the scripted question with an unpracticed inflection) Chimpy sneered at her, which I believe is his default attitude setting.

2 offer a comments section and wait for the so-called “moonbats” to come out in droves to call bush names and say basically irrational and unintelligent things
3 point to the comments and say, “see, liberals are a bunch of hate-filled jerks…this is what the entire left blogosphere is like”

The difference is I don’t “teach” my daughter liberal values. I let her read and see the facts and decide what she believes. And we live in a strictly Republican district and I would not encourage her to espouse liberal ideals at school because I try to protect her from the wrath of other students and their parents. However, she is fearless and believes what she believes and calls it like she sees it no matter what.

Do you have any idea how evolution works? (I doubt it.) Evolutionary changes take many generations to transform species. Given that timeframe, how do you know that apes are NOT evolving into human-like species?

They obviously won’t evolve into “humans” because humans are already here. They will evolve, if natural pressures and genetic potential demand it, into different creatures, ones that do not exist today. But then, you wouldn’t know that, because your view of evolution, like your view of most sophisticated concepts, is cartoonish and ignorant.

Not at all Daryll, the fact that they are being taught conservative values all but guarantees that they will be completely devoid of any morality whatsoever. Here is a fun game you can use to further their conservative education. It’s called “How many republicans does it take to screw in a light bulb.” Let’s do the math.

1 to steal the light bulb

1 to deny that the light bulb was stolen

1 to question whether the light bulb ever existed in the first place

1 to offer lucrative deals to any scientist willing to write a thesis claiming that there is no such thing as light bulbs, therefore how could one be stolen

1 to blame it on Bill Clinton

1 to claim that the light bulb had not actually been stolen, but just borrowed in order to shed light on the much larger issue of Democratic light bulb theivery

1 to claim that the light bulb was stolen by a middle eastern country attempting to stockpile light bulbs that will be used against us unless we pre-emptively invade thier country

1 to claim that light bulb theft is not a real crime, therefore the Republican responsible should not be held accountable

1 to insist on a presidential pardon for the Republican theif

All the rest to man thier keyboards, pointing out that anyone who disagreed with the theft of the light bulb is un-patriotic

It is very difficult to arrive at an actual number because there is a big difference between actually screwing in a light bulb and just spinning one.

The notion that the most highly paid, most powerful public employee in the country shouldn’t be subjected to mean old questions is laughable, a confection to disguise a less tastey confection. That George Bush is dumb as a post, rigid, uncurious and as mean-spirited as a hornet. He wouldn’t pass the emotional profile quiz handed out to would be cashiers at Borders.

Bush made fun of this teenager because he was angry; he was angry because he was frightened. I was being sarcastic. My point is that if we ban religion outright perhaps those things I mentioned would be apporopriate. In otherwords, we place more faith in the elected and popoulous views than we place in God. If the result is “rational thinking” then we may be in more trouble. Not to say that rational thinking is denied because some belive in Christ, but because those who want to ban religion may want to control freedom of religion. Religon causes harm because of men. Non-religious cause harm because of men.

Right everybody makes A’s in social studies when they are homeschooled and mommy grades their papers.

No, referring to public schools. Your bigotry on homeschooling doesn’t make sense, however. Did you know that more minorities (black Americans, especially) are turning to home-schooling around the country, confident that they will achieve more than the public schools of every type that have let them down? Do your bigoted and uneducated views count towards them? They like the results. I’ll locate the link.

So I guess it wasn’t your mother’s teaching that made you such a loser.

And you have credentials from where to determine a “loser”?

She was just protecting you from stress.

Actually, its a national issue. See: overworked teens. Maybe you’ll understand.

Oh and keeping you from talking to adults like teachers about her being a crack addict and bringing her johns to the double wide at night was just a bonus. It really was for your own good.

Again, I think you’re proving that your daughter isn’t so good after all. Don’t worry, because given your mother-load, she’ll be in her rebellious stage in a few – doing drugs, having unprotected sex (the pass-around), running away from home, etc. Your overrated assessments (AKA cover-ups) will sure come in handy then.

How many community colleges did you have to apply to before you got accepted?

I got in the same way that millions of others have, using it as a stronghold and carefully planning my program to get into a good school. There’s a good track record, so why would I take your word for anything? Most people disagree with you, so run along, grape nuts. Put up or shut up. Your own perceptions are insufficient.

Sarcasm is the most intellectually challenging form of humor when properly executed. It is also a fine medium for pointing out inconsistencies in thought patterns and can be very useful in forcing an individual to reflect upon their beliefs and defend them. As to obsenity, I am not a big advocate but they’re just words. Lenny Bruce was obscene and sarcastic, would you suggest he was a “nonthinker’?

If I recall correctly, you went off to vacation in the Caribbean or something, right? How did that no eating shellfish thing work out for you? Since that’s pretty clearly spelled out in Leviticus, I’m sure you believe His words and avoid shellfish and pork. Right?

If your brother in law beats your sister, then upon seeing the pain he caused his wife, he sends her flowers, do you then call him “a good man”?

  198. Exley says:

    #192 DRxJ,

Your analogy doesn’t hold up. Bush didn’t maliciously or intentionally “beat anyone up.” He made a wry, self-deprecating comment that would not have made 99,999 out of 100,000 people, including children, cry. But when Bush saw that this unusually shy and extremely nervous young girl was crying, he went out of his way and took time out of his busy schedule afterwards to try and make her feel better. That was a very nice thing for him to do.

    DRxJ,

When he said “Yeah, thanks,” it seems to me he was just making a self-deprecating joke about his recent defeat on the immigration bill. I mean, come on, you can certainly disagree with his politics, but do you really think he set out to make a little girl cry????

Reminds me of an episode of “Futurama,” when the Head of Richard Nixon is running for President of Earth:

Morbo: Morbo demands an answer to the following question: If you saw delicious candy in the hands of a small child would you seize and consume it?

    Johnson: Unthinkable.

Jackson: I wouldn’t think of it.

Morbo: What about you, Mr. Nixon? I remind you, you are under a truth-o-scope.

[The truth-o-scope hovers over Nixon's head and he starts to sweat profusely.]

Nixon: Uh, well, I, uh … the question is-is vague. You don’t say what kind of candy, whether anyone is watching or, uh… [He clears his throat.] At any rate, I certainly wouldn’t harm the child.

    [The truth-o-scope beeps furiously.]

  213. miproggrrl says:

    Dear Pip,

Emotional development of 13 year old or not, it is certainly better than the Republicans intellectual level of four year old.

Lefties have the “emotional level of a 13 year old” you say? Oh, you mean an emotional level like John Boehner, or shall I say Boo-Hoo Boehner (R – OH) who weeps openly on the floor?

  215. ESL says:

This sounds like a child who was influenced to ask the question by her parents (liberals). Sad, completely sad.

What’s sad is that many of your comments so far in this thread have disrespected a 13 year old girl. Given Bush’s support for immigration reform, why is this an inappropriate question to ask? Why is it appropriate for our President to humiliate a 13 year old girl in front of his personally vetted audience? Where are your moral values? Do you humiliate children for your amusement too?

You comment once again smacks of GOP’s “blame the victim mentality.” So she deserved his dismissive behavior because she was “liberal” or because only friendly questions that complement the President are appropriate. Even neutral questions aren’t OK.

This year I helped my 11 yo son seek out a Masaii man from Tanzania so he could ask him some questions for a report he was doing on the Masaii. I know from experience from an interview he did with a wildlife biologist last year for a cheetah report that his interviews often don’t result in information that fit neatly within the bounds of the school work, but they are GREAT EXPERIENCEs.

What is strange is that President Bush is not at all times prepared to speak respectfully to a representative of our nation’s youth.

    What an a-hole.

P.S. My 11 yo son is extremely shy and not intellectually precocious but we sometimes push/cajole him to engage with real people in the real world.

Say Daryll, I was just wondering. When God speaks to you does it come in the form of a voice that originates outside of your head, or is a voice inside your head that sounds exactly like the one you hear when your thinking I need to stop and pick up some bread. I mean, so far this voice has you supporting a man who has been proven multiple times to be a liar and a criminal. What’s that, I’m getting a message from God right now, here I’ll type it for you. aefhsfdgjnsfg. Translation, stop listening to the voice in your head. It does not belong to me, it belongs to you…and you are an idiot.

he held the “meeting” (Libs will be shown the door) because mr bush has not stopped campaigning since 1999.

he hasn’t done anything BUT campaign his entire term.

Which is what you religious types shout whenever someone has more or less squashed you.

If God wrote the Bible Daryll, why does he say in Genesis that the moon is a light?

Why were people persecuted for saying the earth is round, even though Pythagoras, an ancient Egyption mathematician proved it was round before the Bible had even been written?

Why, if God exists, and he is Omnipotent, omniscient and all good, does evil exist?

And if God predates the universe, which is defined as all reality, where does God come from?

Further, if God is real, why is it that his religion actually isn’t the oldest recorded religion of all, and why is polytheism so common in ancient history? Surely, if there is one true god, he would be the basis of all religious movements (However corrupted) and we would see more monotheist religions expressed through our history?

And lets say that evolution is wrong, everything was created in its current shape and all of that: Why is it we have different species close enough to be able to interbreed (EG: Donkeys and horses, various plants that can be hybridised, tygons and ligers etc…)

Why is it that, if evolution isn’t real, we have human examples, where humans in high sunlight areas have darker more skin cancer resistant skins to people in lower sunlight areas?

Because you see I can explain why there aren’t near humans around within evolutionary bounds: Humans aren’t particularly tolerant towards different looking humans, different sub-species wouldn’t stand much of a hope of survival.

I can explain your whole monkeys schtick: Current theory takes it that humans evolved from a common ancestor of monkeys. The period it would take for new species of monkey to evolve would likely take about as long as new species of humans to evolve. We haven’t been around and taking notes all that long.

Of course, to you, a conservative, god fearing (And boy, if your god is real you should be afraid considering how you conservatives actually treat him) theocrat, I don’t doubt that you will come up with some story involving storks, cabbage patches and larcenous fairies with a tooth fetish to explain all of my questions. Or you will just call me a blasphemer.
