For the first time in history, a Hindu today delivered the Senate’s morning invocation. But three protestors belonging to the Christian Right anti-abortion group Operation Save America loudly interrupted the invocation, stating, “Lord Jesus, forgive us father for allowing a prayer of the wicked, which is an abomination in your sight.” Watch it:
TPM’s Eric Kleefeld spoke with the head of Operation Save America today, who called the Hindu invocation “gross idolatry.”
Disgusting!

A true patriot who loved his country unlike the traitors around here!!!
July 12th, 2007 at 5:54 pmI read an interesting book called Constantine and the Bishops. It points out that pagan Rome thought the gods punished society collectively for the public sins of a few, and their main objection to Christians was their refusal to engage in the communal religious rituals, including the worship of the Emperor’s genius (protector spirit) – analogous to the JWs’ refusal to say the pledge. Christianity was persecuted because the pagans were afraid that Christians’ decision to opt out of communal worship would be seen as a snub by the gods, who would punish the community collectively for permitting that snub.
Conservative Christians are the new pagans. Their god punishes collectively, so any presence of any unorthodox worship in public risks raising their god’s ire.
It’s a sign of how backward their thinking – and theology – is.

Essentially there is peaceful liberal Christianity that really should distance itself from the other branch that is violent conservative Christianity, by denouncing the hypocrites, calling yourselves something else, and getting rid of all the violence in the bible that fuels the rabid right in the first place (and it does fuel them). Then, stand with all of us who are secular and fight against them to take back our country. Until you do, they think they are the majority with the base word Christian, even though it means different things to the two branches, and they will continue to behave this way.

July 12th, 2007 at 6:28 pmYou had to let a man painfully bleed to death to assuage all of humanity from the horrid sin of two naked people having eaten an apple at the urging of a talking snake.
Well, the apple stuff originally comes from Mesopotamia (along with the flood etc.) and the bleeding man is “Part II” with the kinder, gentler God. These two things have nothing in common really, except that they are sold in a combo book.

In order to have a prayer Congress would have had to pass a resolution setting up time for the prayer. That or a majority member would make the decision. Either way this is clearly an establishment of religion in violation of the first amendment. And if they’re doing it everyday with a Christian pray… that’s just disgraceful.

July 12th, 2007 at 6:47 pmDo any of the right-wing bigots and “Christians” that comment here understand the difference between Islam and Hinduism? From reading the comments, I don’t think so, although they see to believe that all of the “Eastern” religions are interchangeable (I remember Larry King asking the Dalai Lama about how he felt being Muslim – unfortunately, the Dalai Lama is a Buddhist). It’s really quite annoying that people don’t take the time to learn the differences between the religions before spouting inaccuracies and falsehoods.
I don’t understand why everything to you “Christians” is so black and white – Hinduism is the religion of Mahatma Gandhi and teaches peace, love and light. And, to dispel what is a gross misconception about the faith, Hindus believe in one God, just as Christians (and most other world religions) do, with the various gods and goddesses being manifestations of the one God, who is “one as well as many” (meaning, in everything and of everything on earth). Doesn’t this ring a bell with any of you out there who pray to Mary, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and saints? The early Christians, up until Constantine, were adept at taking what they wanted from other religions (including Paganism) and co-opting the ideas for their own use. By the way, Hinduism (as well as Buddhism, another religion, like Christianity, of peace and love) predates Christianity by some 300 years.
Before you rush to judgment, please take time to learn about what you are talking about before letting everyone know how ignorant you are. I think it’s absolutely atrocious what Christianity has become in this country – these supposed followers of Christ will have an awful lot of karma to work out in the next several lifetimes, won’t they?
Here’s a good website to learn about Hinduism:

Your party’s agenda is wrong in many ways. I won’t hesitate to point that out. Cry wolf with the “bigot†speak. You lefties have already turned it into the lamest, most overused word in the dictionary.
Comment by CT_V1
Main Entry: big·ot
Pronunciation: ‘bi-g&t
Function: noun
Etymology: French, hypocrite, bigot
: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
That’s the dictionary definition, troll. No one has redefined it, but it fits you like a glove.
You sound exactly like the mullahs.
Seek professional help for the hatred that consumes you, or it will literally consume you.

It’s stupid nonsense. And it is intellectualy lazy. Why is the sky blue Mommy? Because Jebus likes it that way, stop asking questions.
The one thing the Good Book is good for though is starting kindling on a cold morning. Sometimes I let the kids burn the pages to see the pretty colors. But that joy is shortlived when you think of the kids that are dying right now because our current Son of George is hearing Jebus whispers in his head.

That said. I still think they were wrong this is and should be a non-sectarian nation. If religious folks, Christian or otherwise, are influenced by their religion to vote for a particular candidate that is their right.
The Buddist have a right to lead our congress in an eccumenical prayer just as any Christian minister does.
What they did was shameful.
I question the use of prayer at all in this assembly but I understand it is “tradition”.
Finally, I think the Pope would be disappointed and embarrassed as well. The Catholic Church is very eccumenically minded when it comes to these types of things.

You make one good point and one confusing point.
First, it’s great that you have a school for people who are all part of your religion. That’s the wonderful thing about American democracy. You can builf your own religious school. Public schools are governed by the Constitution of the United States which forbids establishments of religion.
Second, the reason behind a lack on an attack on those schools. Probably has something to do with the rareness and randomness of school shootings and terrorist attacks (I’m not sure which you meant). Being a christian never stopped the KKK from committing terrorist attacks on Black homes and churches. Certainly some of the victims of Columbine, Viriginia Tech, Texas A&M and dozens of other school must have been good Christians. Life is tough and sometime people die even when they’ve been a good, pious person.
All I’m saying is that there are bigger issues and you seem dead set on simplifying everything.
This is only meant in the spirit of discussion… try not to flame me for it.
July 12th, 2007 at 6:58 pm#113 — You might want to recheck the definition of “free speech.” It is not open license to say whatever you want. It was determined early on that shouting “fire” in a crowded theater is not free speech; this is fomenting riot. Also new interpretations regarding what constitutes hate speech restrict such commentary from falling under the category of “free speech.”
I would bet what this group of Christofascists did borders on hate speech — at the very least, intolerant speech. Also, I think anyone trying to disrupt a Senate-approved function in the US Senate would be removed. After all, weren’t a bunch of Code Pink protesters recently removed from congressional hearings for wearing their Code Pink hats?
July 12th, 2007 at 6:58 pmThe Christian Right is neither.
July 12th, 2007 at 6:59 pmMonkyJesus isn’t allowed in schools because of that “lay on of the hands” charge he had last year with that little boy.
He can’t fly within 500ft of a school zone (kids can see up his robe)
July 12th, 2007 at 6:59 pmThe name of the protesters leads me to believe that they may be immigrants from Eastern Europe. In Oregon they are fueling an attempt to recall gay rights legislation. Their logic is screwy – we came here for freedom of religion, therefore we get to practice our religion any way we choose and we choose to be as intolerant as the governments we left behind, and we want everyone else to be forced to be as intolerant as we are.
July 12th, 2007 at 7:00 pmI wonder what Christians are so afraid of? Really, what’s the harm of having a Hindu prayer – or the prayer of any person of faith? Aren’t we all really praying for the same thing – peace, love, greater understanding, greater tolerance, and end to suffering? Does it matter to what deity we’re directing the prayer? I just don’t understand the objection and the believe that your God is the only true God – how do you know that?
And, I have to correct my earlier statement about Hinduism’s age – the first scriptures date back to about 6500 BC, so it’s as old (if not older) than the Hebrew faith (I think Buddhism was formed around 300 BC).
Peace and love (and tolerance, please, for the sake of this fragile planet)

Studies by people of faith have also shown that prayer does not work at all.

“[2.190] …fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you…[2.191] And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers. “

Ah, the fundamentalist xian jihadists are at it again. These kooks are now placed in our govt. in large numbers, in positions of power. Monica Goodling admitted to it. This same thing happened in Germany folks, instead of rabid antisemitism, they are racist against all brown people. That is our real enemy and look, NONE of them have been fired! This is an outrage, these people are still at the helm in every agency. Im afraid alright, afraid of these homegrown reichwingers who are ALREADY blatantly breaking the law and giving us all the middle finger. We have to ACT as citizens, protest, demand our “leaders” function within the LAW.
July 12th, 2007 at 7:38 pmThe name of the protesters leads me to believe that they may be immigrants from Eastern Europe.
Comment by Powkat
Good point. The same bunch demanded not only that they be allowed to have a prayer group during school, which was fine, but that the prayer group had to meet right in the middle of the cafeteria, where a group of 100 people assembled for any reason was a disruption.

No one is bashing (well, a few of the atheists in the room, maybe) Christians as Christians. They’re “bashing” Christians for hypocrisy and bigotry. And defending Muslims who hurt no one. That’s where you get confused; you insist that defending any Muslim defends the worst of them, while criticizing the worst of Christians you see as “bashing” all of them.
Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Your “historical contexts” are always one-sided. Muslims are bad because they expanded through the ruins of the Roman Empire, yet you’ve never condemned the Romans for imposing that empire on other people in the first place.
Regardless of what the New Testament says, medieval Christians were just as brutal as their contemporary Muslims, if not more so. Many of the Crusaders robbed and murdered entire Jewish communities before they set off to the East.

Read it and weep, Gunther. If it’s too hard, have yer little sister explain it to you:
“…evangelicals remain just 7% of the adult population. That number has not changed since the Barna Group began measuring the size of the evangelical public in 1994….less than one out of five born again adults (18%) meet the evangelical criteria.”
“In addition to meeting the born again criteria, evangelicals also meet seven other conditions. Those include saying their faith is very important in their life today; contending that they have a personal responsibility to share their religious beliefs about Christ with non-Christians; stating that Satan exists; maintaining that eternal salvation is possible only through grace, not by being good or doing good deeds; asserting that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth; saying that the Bible is totally accurate in all it teaches; and describing God as the all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect deity who created the universe and still rules it today.”
Evangelicals are 7% of the population, a tiny minority: if not for this nation’s devotion to tolerance, you and your ilk would have been exterminated long ago.
Don’t cry. Jesus still loves you.

At the time of the 1st Crusade, that part of the world was relatively stable and had been for several hundred years. The Muslims no more “started it” than did the Byzantines. If the European crusaders were just fighting back against invasion from the East, why then did they refuse to relinquish the land they conquered in Syria and Palestine to the “rightful” owners, the Byzantines? Why did they establish Outremer and set up their own princedoms and kingdoms?

NEW TESTAMENT VIOLENCE
Matthew
Those who bear bad fruit will be cut down and burned “with unquenchable fire.” 3:10, 12
Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn’t the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. 5:17
Jesus recommends that to avoid sin we cut off our hands and pluck out our eyes. This advice is given immediately after he says that anyone who looks with lust at any women commits adultery. 5:29-30
Jesus says that most people will go to hell. 7:13-14
Those who fail to bear “good fruit” will be “hewn down, and cast into the fire.” 7:19
“The children of the kingdom [the Jews] shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 8:12
Jesus tells a man who had just lost his father: “Let the dead bury the dead.” 8:21
Jesus sends some devils into a herd of pigs, causing them to run off a cliff and drown in the waters below. 8:32
Cities that neither “receive” the disciples nor “hear” their words will be destroyed by God. It will be worse for them than for Sodom and Gomorrah. And you know what God supposedly did to those poor folks (see Gen.19:24). 10:14-15
Families will be torn apart because of Jesus (this is one of the few “prophecies” in the Bible that has actually come true). “Brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.” 10:21
Jesus says that we should fear God who is willing and “able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” 10:28
Jesus says that he has come to destroy families by making family members hate each other. He has “come not to send peace, but a sword.” 10:34-36
Jesus condemns entire cities to dreadful deaths and to the eternal torment of hell because they didn’t care for his preaching. 11:20-24
Jesus will send his angels to gather up “all that offend” and they “shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” 13:41-42, 50
Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands before eating. He defends himself by attacking them for not killing disobedient children according to the commandment: “He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.” (See Ex.21:15, Lev.20:9, Dt.21:18-21) So, does Jesus think that children who curse their parents should be killed? It sure sounds like it. 15:4-7

No it wasn’t!
The Turks conquered Anatolia, Armenia and Syria after Manzikert in 1071 AD. Hardle stable!
It was an act of Islamic agression!
You deny this since your an Islamic lover!
“If the European crusaders were just fighting back against invasion from the East, why then did they refuse to relinquish the land they conquered in Syria and Palestine to the “rightful†owners, the Byzantines? Why did they establish Outremer and set up their own princedoms and kingdoms?”
July 12th, 2007 at 8:16 pmThey actually did give back territory to the Btyszantines. They gave back Westen and Southern Anatolia.
As for the rest, they went back on their agreements because of a dispute with the Byzantines.
They should’ve given it back to the rightful Buzantine owners.
No argument here!
Better the Crusaders than Muslims.

Ruins of the Roman Empire?
Are historically ignorant!
The Roman Empire still existed at the start of the 7th Century Jihad.
In fact the Empire controlled the Balkans, 1/2 of Italy including the city of Rome, Anatolia, Armenia, Syria, Egypt, North Africa and Spain was a vassal state! So get your facts straight buddy!
At the time of the Jihad all citizens called themselves Roman!
It was no longer an Empire but a Nation!
Learn history!
Like I said “ruins of the Roman Empire.” The Byzantines called themselves “Romans” but spoke (and were) Greek. The rest of Europe was divided up among the Visigoths, the Franks, and any number of Germanic tribes. The so-called Roman Empire consisted of Turkey, Greece, part of the Balkans, a few fragments of Italy, and Sicily.
Your “Empire but a Nation” is so ahistorical and delusional, it’s difficult to know where to begin trying to correct it.

Comment by Mr. President
Didn’t you learn all that from Robin Hood, PiPPy?
The Muslims, just like many many other human civilizations, conquered other people. Just like the “murderous Romans” and the “murderous Europeans” who conquered the Western Hemisphere and killed millions of Indians.
I know you’re obsessed with Jerusalem, and believe it’s part of Europe, PiPPy, but it’s just another city. Remember, the “murderous Muslims” built a mosque when they conquered Jerusalem, and allowed everyone to practice their religion in peace. The Crusaders killed everyone, Muslims, Jews and heretical Christians, alike.
What’s your point?

The Visigoths ruled Spain in the name of the Roman Emperor in Constantinople! They put the Emperor ion the back of their coins and recognized Legal rulings from Constantinople.

Christians were 2nd class citizens in the Caliphate.
They had to jiyaza a special tax, their churches couldn’t sound their bells, They had to wear speacial markings on their sleaves and in a court of law their word was worthless against Muslims.
If you read the Hebrew version of the Old Testament, it has very little to do with the King James Version. This is because those who wrote the KJV had very little to do with God and a whole lot to do with controlling the people.
At that time, the old versions of the Bible had the earth as being flat and now there was just too much proof of this not being so. So the KJV came to be to cover up the fact that God had gotten that part wrong. Obviously God had gotten a lot of things wrong.

I understand that apes evolved into humans because we began to eat animal protein in large enough quantities that allowed our brains to become larger (animal proteins aid the development of blood vessles, which are the basis of the growth of the body parts – why we are taler in the west than people in the east, for example). And that we need certain animo acids that our bodies cannot produce, and that are most abundant in animals.
However, I feel better taking animo acid supplements, and letting those chickens and cows I might have eaten live long and healthy lives as I would live to have myself :D

Here’s a more relevant map, of course, because it includes it includes the beginnings of the Omayyid Caliphate in northern Africa. But in both cases, the Roman Empire is that little pink piece off to the right.
Notice all those other “kingdoms”? Some of them liked to claim the mantle of Rome, but it was absolutely meaningless. They didn’t even enjoy a common language, much less a government. Pretensions to glory, just like the so-called Holy Roman Empire, which wasn’t holy, roman or an empire.

July 12th, 2007 at 11:10 pmLadies and gentlemen, some of the messages I have read here are confusing. Some are written by people who have no spiritual beliefs. Some are written by people who have strong spiritual beliefs and many of them are different from mine. Some are written by people who do not have a clue why the Senate opens each session with prayer. History tells us that the signers of the Declaration of Independence were devout Christians who pledged their “sacred honor” as they declared a breaking away from their homeland. Their ideals still live today. We, as a nation, do not force anyone to be a member of a particular religion or denomination. We tolerate most any spirtual belief that man may posess as long as the worship aspect does not violate existing laws for instance human sacrifice. Personally, I would never have asked a Hindu priest to offer a prayer to what I consider a false god in a chamber of government in a nation that by its own founding documents declares itself to ordain Christianity. Whomever made such a decision was obviously blind to the possibility of the backlash that would not only be expected but guaranteed. I think such action is an insult to the memory of valiant men who pledged everything they owned to establish this nation. The Bible tells me that although the Hindu priest may be a good man, a moral man, a compassionate man, without accepting the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross as payment in full for all of his sins and declaring that Jesus is Lord of his life then regardless of his moral compass he will spend eternity separated from a Holy God in a place the Bible describes as a place where there will be “weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth.” A most desolate place when the alternative is so easily attained by a gift of God’s grace. There is nothing man can do on his own to reach Heaven. It is appropriate in my opinion to oppose the presentation of Hindu prayers in governmental assemblies in a Christian nation. I only wish there had been more elected officials that would have stood with the protesters rather than fear they might offend potential voters.

I’m not condemning anyone, just giving your Fox News/Coulter/McCarthy/Limbaugh/Bush/Hitler addled brain a little lesson. Never liked Stalin much either, as Totalitarianism was not the answer, as was Fascism, Communisim, or our current Corporatism. Also, some female Pagans can be pretty intolerant.
You see, what amazes me about simpletons like yourself is that if one says what the dirty dealings of one group is, say Republicans, Bible Thumpers, Inqusitors, and Idiots like yourself, then that automatically means I am the opposite. This is probably due to your God vs The Devil upbringing, where everything is black or white.
Now that I have wasted 5 minutes of my life on a piss ant clod like yourself, I will move onto more important subject matter.
July 12th, 2007 at 11:55 pmActual history, rather than the revisionist versions popular today, tells us that the signers of the Declaration of Independence were deists, and our founding documents do not ordain Christianity. “Sacred” and “Christian” are not synonyms.
I don’t believe that formalized prayer from any religion is appropriate in our legislative settings. Nevertheless, to meet with such intolerance and bigotry a well-intentioned attempt to practice the diversity that is *supposed* to be one of our country’s strengths does christians–and the United States–no credit.
This entire comment thread would be funny if it were not so sad and repellant.
July 12th, 2007 at 11:59 pm#436 Ladies and gentlemen, some of the messages I have read here are confusing. Some are written by people who have no spiritual beliefs. Some are written by people who have strong spiritual beliefs and many of them are different from mine. Some are written by people who do not have a clue why the Senate opens each session with prayer. History tells us that the signers of the Declaration of Independence were devout Christians who pledged their “sacred honor†as they declared a breaking away from their homeland. The Bible tells me that although the Hindu priest may be a good man, a moral man, a compassionate man, without accepting the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross as payment in full for all of his sins and declaring that Jesus is Lord of his life then regardless of his moral compass he will spend eternity separated from a Holy God in a place the Bible describes as a place where there will be “weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth.†A most desolate place when the alternative is so easily attained by a gift of God’s grace. There is nothing man can do on his own to reach Heaven. It is appropriate in my opinion to oppose the presentation of Hindu prayers in governmental assemblies in a Christian nation. I only wish there had been more elected officials that would have stood with the protesters rather than fear they might offend potential voters.

The Hindu, The Buddist, and the Christian argued about whose “God” was the correct one. The Hindu said, “God is Everywhere, in the trees, rocks, heaven, in us”. The Buddhist said “God is the Path of Life, it is simply being, many turtles stacked upon each other to infinity”. The Christian said, “God s a Man far away from here in Heaven”. They argued for hours.
Then the clock struck 12 Noon. They were all very hungry by this time. An Atheist cook called out “Time For Lunch”, and everyone ate happily and forgot the yelling about God.
July 13th, 2007 at 12:05 am#441 – swampgas, I like your sense of whimsy. I try not to fight the Neo-Con supporters, but some of the posts here I find hilarious. Religion, the word itself come from the word Religio, which means to lock down or bind up.
July 13th, 2007 at 12:13 amYes, their hatred and intolerance are breathtaking. Prayer of the wicked? An abomination in God’s sight? It’s one thing to be told you’re going to hell unless you take Jesus as the one true way. It’s something entirely different when you call those who don’t practice what you do evil. And to say that God is filled with disgust and hatred for Hindus? Along with gays, non-Christians (that would included Catholics and Mormons), athiests, etc. God hates so many of his creations.
Freedom of religion? Uh, not exactly. Advice to Hindus, Buddhists, etc.: time to go underground. Your very lives may depend on it.
I think, though, Buddhists and atheists are most at risk because neither believes in a creator god.

July 13th, 2007 at 2:41 amHere’s a little poem by an Indian poet…Where the mind is without fear:
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
July 13th, 2007 at 3:03 amWhere knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic wars;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action –
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

July 13th, 2007 at 11:07 amWhy do we have ANY prayers in a government function. Stupid and hypocritical.

No, not because of the Christians interrupting the prayer, but that ThinkProgress is deliberately focusing on that to make Christians the enemy, instead of pointing out the REAL crime here which is the fact that AN prayer is being spoken in the Senate chamber, in the presence of people with opposing beliefs.
Your agenda is to defame Christians and their beliefs. I am one, and I am highly offended, and downright pissed off.
July 13th, 2007 at 4:21 pmYou can’t beat the Christian Right, so let’s join them and speak to them in language they understand. Impeach Cheney for witchcraft!

July 13th, 2007 at 4:26 pmI’m lost in all you say, All I do know is that no one has to believe in God(Jesus, my God), I will not condemn you. However, Jesus is God, and if somehow someone exposes his teachings to you,(that is what Christians are supposed to do, SPREAD THE WORD OF GOD) and you fail to acknowledge that, Then I do believe your afterlife will not be a fun one.
July 13th, 2007 at 4:27 pmThat is all
You do Know that America is supposedly a ******* melting pot and respects all beliefs. This just proves there is no such thing as equality in this pathetic patch of land we call a country. The truth is US does not give a shit about equality they are just a capitalistic mofos sitting up in office so they can have money coming out of their ass. Back to the point if you ask an average American anything about a their country they will have no idea of where New York is. I thought state and religion we to be separated completely in America.
Jesus is the son of god learn about your own religion before you go around telling people who is right and who is wrong.

Why do we have ANY prayers in a government function. Stupid and hypocritical.
Here is a quote by Ben Franklin at the Constitutional Convention on June 28, 1787 – 3months before the signing of the constitution:
“I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proof I see of this truth that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that “except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better, than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest.
I therefore beg leave to move-that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of this City be requested to officiate in that Service.”
-Ben Franklin
They founded the government of biblical principles and therefor set rules and standards to follow. Yes there is freedom of religion, what does this mean?
It means people of ALL religions regardless of who thinks it’s right will be welcomed to live and practice freely.
Should they have been rude and jump in during the prayer? no
Should the hindu clergy have done the prayer? I hear nothing that he says force hinduism or goes against anything that christians would believe.
However as franklin states “a clergy of the city” will be requested.
For you guys to judge hinduism because of what extremists do is wrong, for you to judge christianity because of what extremists do is wrong.
Maybe some of the muslims over here are getting away from the murder and rape of their country.
And for those of you who think irag/iran isn’t that bad, i urge you to move there.
As far as the homosexuality thing, if you were supp
