Sens. Richard Lugar (R-IN) and John Warner (R-VA) “said today that President Bush should seek a new war authorization and present a plan to Congress by Oct. 16 outlining contingency plans in Iraq. Those plans, which would include reducing American forces, should begin by the end of the year.” Their measure will be “considered next week when the Iraq war debate resumes.”
This is going to get interesting. September will be a fun month to watch. Then, sometime early next year, the next false flag incident will cause the complete takeover by the neo-cons. Trouble is brewing ahead.

He needed a second UN Security Council resolution; the UN weapons inspectors were on the ground and searching unimpeded; and Saddam was complying even to the extent of allowing the UN inspectors to destroy dozens of his missiles.
The impression I had was that it didn’t matter what the US said; America will always use force first. Why? Because, I suspect, the reasons stated by America as its objective in threatening force are always lies. This is why Bush has triggered a new arms race. Everyone knows that Americans only understand brute force and so everyone must have WMD or America will bully them.
Congress does have the power to declare War. And since this war is technically over and is now an occupation, I think Congress has a right to demand new authorization for the use of force and to offer Congress a plan for that use. I’d also point out that the UN, after delcaring the invasion illegal, had to resign itself to reality –something Americans seem unable to do– and gave America a mandate to secure Iraq. That mandate runs out 31 December 2007.
If Bush won’t seek another authorization, I think Pelosi should plead with Iraq and the UN Security Council NOT to renew the mandate.

I am embarassed of this administration and the congress that enables it. But more than anything, I am embarassed we here at home haven’t forced an end to this thing.
We need to get mad, not for the inevitable supression of the citizens here, but rather, for those who have been sent into harms way for questionable reasons and kept there with out-right lies.

As Noonan reports, even a faithful Republican in Georgia reported “I don’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth.” With the apparent exception of Bush’s own academic experience, a score of 8 out of 18 benchmarks is usually considered a failing grade. It’s no wonder GOP Senators John Warner (R-VA) and Richard Lugar (R-IN) are just the latest to defy President Bush with their proposed Iraq war reauthorization legislation.

Whoever or whatever you are, I have been to Iraq three times and will be deploying back for my fourth tour in October. I will not stoop to your level nor will I play your game, life to me is real and the onlly people who I need to take care of is my Family and my Soldiers, so you continue to do what you do and I will continue to serve my country even though you chose to try and ridicule me.

This comment is a racial slur and if it is allowed to stand will cast an unfavorable light on ThinkProgress and its staff.
The comment was posted by a poster normally going under the handle of “Mr. President”, who also assumed the name of a Dead Fallen Soldier in order to mock his family member in the same thread.
Insults and wisecracks are one thing.
But racial slurs against the African American community and the use of the word “nigga” and “jigga”, is unnacceptable for any website, and should not be tolerated.

The unusually large-scale buildup, which includes tanks, heavy artillery and aircraft, is part of a security crackdown on Kurdish rebels hiding in southeast Turkey and northern Iraq, said the security sources, who declined to be named.
NATO member Turkey has refused to rule out a possible cross-border operation to crush Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebels, despite opposition from the United States and Iraq.
The military General Staff in Ankara was not immediately available for comment on the troop numbers.
The armed forces usually boost troop levels in the spring when PKK rebels based in northern Iraq cross the mountains to carry out attacks against Turkish targets.
But security forces said the current buildup was larger than normal. One source said that in Sirnak province troop levels were as high as 50,000 compared with 10,000-20,000 normally.
Highlighting Turkey’s security dilemma, army sources said on Friday two soldiers and two separatist rebels from the PKK had been killed in eastern Turkey during military operations over the past two days.
Dozens of soldiers and paramilitary police have been killed in an escalation of violence in east and southeast Turkey in recent months.
The army has repeatedly urged the government — which faces elections this month — to launch an operation against an estimated 4,000 PKK rebels based in northern Iraq.
Amid public anger over the deaths, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has hinted parliament could be recalled to approve an operation but with just over a week before a parliamentary election has made no move yet to do so.

My opinion is that if TP doesn’t do something about the troll blabber soon, I fear that most people will simply find other blogs who care about the quality of their discussion venue.

Dunno… was it a military thing, like Velcro? I know Post-its were kind of an accident. A researcher at 3M came up w/ a glue that wouldn’t stick very well. Someone else had an idea - let’s try it on these little pads, and it became 3M’s biggest money maker.

July 13th, 2007 at 11:40 pmLook, I know that Mr Pee has gone really overbard ad probably ruined the TP foprum for many single-handedly, and TP wll probably come back soon with registration requirements. I’ll miss this free-wheeling atmosphere, but maybe it’s for the best.
But let’s consider what drives poor Mr. Pee to act the way he does.
He’s clever for his age, but not early as clever as he think he is, and plus he’s probably scared sh!tless about entering high school in a couple of months. He’s obviously not very popular (his posting patterns on a Friday night confirm that) and his parents don’t really pay him much attention either.
He’s found a place where he can get attention, even if it’s negative, and for Mr. pee, that’s better than being lonely. So when TPers start to shun him, he creates new IDs and starts conversations with himself.
Yeah, it’s pathetic, and destructive, but when you’re a teenage right-winger, what’s a boy to do?
I guess I’ll check out C&L too. See you there.
