THey should brush up on the Russo-Japanese war of 1904. Russia thought it would be a “Short Victorious War” against the Japanese. Lots of parallels, Established Great Power (Russia) stopping emerging Regional Power (Japan) over so-called essential to their survial (Russian) economic needs. Japan was modernizing and the Czar’s were looking to boost their popularity by kicking some lesser nations butt. Well they got their heads handed to them which was the final straw as far as the general population was concerned and the Revolution litterally handed them their heads..ahh if only it would work that way NOW!.
