Moments ago, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced that in response to conservative obstructionism, he plans to force war supporters to physically remain in the Senate and filibuster Iraq withdrawal legislation.
Reid accused conservatives of “protecting the President rather than protecting our troops” by “denying us an up or down vote on the most important issue our country faces.” He said that if a vote on the Reed/Levin Iraq legislation is not allowed today or tomorrow, he will keep the Senate in session “straight through the night on Tuesday” and force a filibuster. From Reid’s speech:
Republicans are using a filibuster to block us from even voting on an amendment that could bring the war to a responsible end. They are protecting the President rather than protecting our troops.
They are denying us an up or down — yes or no — vote on the most important issue our country faces.
I would like to inform the Republican leadership and all my colleagues that we have no intention of backing down.
If Republicans do not allow a vote on Levin/Reed today or tomorrow, we will work straight through the night on Tuesday.
The American people deserve an open and honest debate on this war, and they deserve an up or down vote on this amendment to end it.
UPDATE: Watch the video:
OpenLeft, Firedoglake and others have also called for Congress to call the conservatives’ bluff and force them to filibuster the Levin-Reed Iraq bill.

July 16th, 2007 at 2:43 pmThere you go, people. Now, it's up to the mainstream media to report this in a balanced fashion. I won't hold my breath.

July 16th, 2007 at 2:45 pmGo Harry Go!
July 16th, 2007 at 2:47 pmFrom now until the recess, the only legislation offered by the Dems should be for the Impeachment and trial of Bush, Cheney, Gonzales, and their minions. The Thugs can filibuster away - just keep introducing Bills and forcing the thugs hand.
July 16th, 2007 at 2:48 pmFinally, we have a thick Reid to lean on!

July 16th, 2007 at 2:49 pmTypical of Harry "undertaker-looking" Reid. That kook would love to operate in darkness. Too bad he's a wannabe and a pussy.
Harry's other arsenal component: misuse of the word 'incompetent.'
July 16th, 2007 at 2:49 pmDon't back down! Force these slimeballs to show what they really are, cowards who do not support our overworked and underpaid troops! Forcing them to do deployment after deployment after deployment with no break is cruel. They talk about "more troops" but we don't HAVE ANY more troops! If they want to talk "more troops" then they better start talking about a draft, because that is the ONLY way these warmonger Rerthugs will get more troops. They have worn down the troops in the field and NO ONE is signing up to get in the middle of their civil war that WE HELPED exacerbate by invading their country and trying to occupy it for no reason other than MONEY.
July 16th, 2007 at 2:50 pmShame on ALL Republicans. Shame on ANYONE who supports this idiot President and his minions. All they care about is "winning" they don't have a CLUE, there is NO WIN to be had in Iraq.
Force the filibuster, force them to show their OBSTRUCTIONIST ways, force their hand Harry!
And tomorrow, FILE THE CONTEMPT CITATION for Harriet "no show" Miers if she doesn't comply by tomorrow. Enough is enough, stop these criminals!
Hot F Damn!

July 16th, 2007 at 2:51 pmHas a genuine filibuster yet happened in the "age of the internet"?

July 16th, 2007 at 2:59 pmAs nice as this sounds, I STILL don't believe a word of it. Look for the "threat" of keeping Senators up all night to result in a glorious, meaningless deal of some horrible kind.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:00 pmWill there be beer there?
Or is it BYOB?
July 16th, 2007 at 3:00 pmThis will never work because dems dont have the constitution to stay up late; being the limp-wristed noodles they are, they need their beauty sleep. One look at Pelosi would tell you that she needs about fifty years of straight sack time.
Why dont the good lib senators simply cut off the war funding which is their real congressional purview? Why? WHY? WHHYYYYYYYYYYYY?

Such as:
"Why does Harry Reid hate sleep?"
July 16th, 2007 at 3:02 pmMaybe they should wait longer on any legislation relating to Iraq. It seems like slowly but surely the republicans are breaking rank and speaking in opposition to the war. Give it time and gain support rather than force this legislation before fellow legislators are ready.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:03 pmGet those senators some of those stacker "dietary supplements" let them stay up for days until they break the will of those that have protected Saudi Arabia from paying for 911 and have shamed Americas name by waging a war of aggression against Iraq instead... not just one night... do as Mike Gravel keeps calling for... an unending debate until they cant hack it any more... shame THEM.... as they have shamed US.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:03 pmTHIS is why we voted for you, thank god. Sadly the democrats will have to apply this tactic until the republicans lose their majority. Just make sure the world is watching, I know I'll actually watch CSPAN tonight and I'm not really one for watching TV.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:03 pmIts a proven fact that Rove will simply turn on his propaganda machine and get this all-nighter squashed. Democrats are simply too honest and forthright to deal with these corrupt republicans; dems have proven that honesty throughout their tenure.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:03 pmWow. This must be really scaring the trolls. CT, Mr P, and 'Unvarnished Truth', in 39 posts? And Mr. P shown up in multiple postings? Daaaaaaayyyyuuuuum.
And on topic: HECK YEAH! 'Bout freakin' time. Keep doing it, Reid. Keep doing it, until either they cowtow or it's posted far and wide for the entire US to see. Republicans, once the Up or Down party, ain't so Up or Down anymore. Let's erode their support some more. I like being in the largest group of the three....maybe my dad, Dem hating Republican he once was, will go I.
;)
July 16th, 2007 at 3:03 pmYes! This is what must be done. Let the public see who are the obstructionists; let them see who places party over persons; let the public see who are loyal to Bush for merely political reasons. Then let the public remember this when they come up for reelection.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:04 pmMr President,
Why do Republicans now HATE Up or Down votes?
July 16th, 2007 at 3:06 pmHe should have done this for the Dodd amendment last week! But thank goodness they are finally getting a clue!!

July 16th, 2007 at 3:10 pmAs scholars have said: the Constitution is in crisis today -- impeachment is the cure.
Impeachment need not even mean that the criminals must leave office; the felons could remain in office (horror of horrors), but the proper procedural tool would have been implemented that would prevent the precedent of having an executive branch with unlimited power.

July 16th, 2007 at 3:17 pmWow this really has the trolls worked up. I can almost see the spittle hitting the monitor.
On topic, I am hopeful, but this also means that Ried, and the rest of the dems need to stand up, and stick to their guns. Force the republicans who whined about having to work 5 days a week to continue working. sooner or later they will get sleepy and want their naps.
It also shows resolve to the American people, which is why the troll is freaking out. If the general public feels that dems can protect them better, and create a stable and non-crazy government. It will relegate the republicans to the backwater of politics for the next 50 years.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:18 pmReid had to get permission from Kos and MorOn.org before he could stand up and put on the warpaint. Wait....maybe the paper tigers here at TP made their thoughts known and pushed the good senator...wow, there is some clout here at TP.

July 16th, 2007 at 3:21 pmFrancis,
We cannot continue to wait until there is enough to override a veto.
We have to be able to tell which of the republicans are serious about taking a stand against the president. The ones who are up for reelection next are most in peril, and they know it. They are all too aware that their consitituents are watching very closely what they are doing.
It is a process, and we cannot wait until all the cards are in place and all the stars are alligned before positive action can be taken. It's time to start leading them down the path.

"Obstructionist" is a word libs pull out to try and paint repubs as doing something wrong, just as you have tried to disguise "liberal" with "progressive".
I have no prob with having pols present during this operation, they certainly get paid enough, they can do some of this aggravating work like the rest of us. I just think that Reid, being the shallow, sallow, noodley corpse that he is, isnt believable as a strong leader.

July 16th, 2007 at 3:26 pmKrazny, I wouldn't go so far as to say 'next fifty years'. Fifty years is 2 and a half generations. Don't fall into the same trap the Republicans fell into. '100 year majority', anyone?
Unless people are far stupider than I think they are, this is good for at least 4 years of Democratic control, if the dems are at least somewhat competent (read: Don't royally screw the pooch). If they play this well, Republicans have 8 to 12 years of minority status ahead of them. Alot depends on what happens in the Democrats half of the house in the future, as well as how well the US holds up afterwards. In the long term, however, I think political forces will shift the Republicans back into power by 2030, maybe as early as in the 2020s. Assuming the Democrats will last until 2060 can scuttle that particular ship, bringing a Republican majority return in the 2010s...

Fair enough Jeremy, I was overstating the 50 year mark. I think however if the republicans keep supporting the failed war, which fewer and fewer are doing. And keep their heads in the sand when it comes to domestic issues, it will be longer then 4 years. Unless the dems royally screw up, like Clinton did with his affair. I am willing to bet, that without the lewinsky scandal hanging around the neck of the Gore, it would not have mattered how many votes the republicans stole in 200 to get Bush elected.

And the sad thing is it's such a halting first step! And I know they'll crow to the high heavens when Reid is forced to back down. Maybe hoping to discourage us from pushing hard for this again?
What's got the trolls so worked up?

Thanks...I needed a good laugh.
First, if you can't call the Repukes mapping out a strategy for blocking all Democratic legislation until the August recess 'obstructionist', I'd really like to see in what context you'd deem the word fitting.
Second, 'obstructionist' was a perfectly good word for you trolls to bandy about during the last Congress...what's wrong with it now?
There's more to your post, but, sadly, it merits no reply.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:33 pmLooks like all my special (R) Senator toyz are occupied.
Guess that leaves me witout a date. Any of you reichwing trolls busy Tuesday night?
Let me check the schedule of the male prosti..er..male 'escort' service my life-partner runs out of our apartment and see if Im available.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:33 pmHey, I would be willing to FLY to Washington DC and physically prop up BOTH my state's Senators (Wyden AND Smith) and poke them everytime they started to drift off while they were talking if this could help force movement on ANY legislation to stop this Administration and change the direction of this war and bring it to an end!!
July 16th, 2007 at 3:33 pmHarry Reid isn’t exactly bright.

July 16th, 2007 at 3:34 pm"If Republicans do not allow a vote on Levin/Reed today or tomorrow, we will work straight through the night on Tuesday."
Oh, for the old days, when Denny Hasturd was here to leave a dirty bomb in the Senate Men's washroom so we could all leave early.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:35 pmNO Brainer CT? Did you get medical training from Frist?
Don't you want to see the republicans stand up and vote what they were told to, or what they believe in? Their vote is the voice of the people. A fillibuster tries to quiet that voice.
The panic in the trolls postings are palpable. Amazing how much their positions can change about the value of the fillibuster.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:35 pmKrazny: Yeah, just trying to make sure that that which infects the Republicans and the trolls that are their quite useful tools...(hehehe)...doesn't infect the Democratic side of things. Fight injustice every step of the way, don't let it take hold of your house, and remember: What the voters giveth, they can taketh away.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:35 pmI don't get the reference to "reading the phone book". What does that mean please?
July 16th, 2007 at 3:36 pm“Obstructionist†is a word libs pull out to try and paint repubs as doing something wrong, just as you have tried to disguise “liberal†with “progressiveâ€.
No it's the word Republicans used to defeat Tom Daschle. They used that word constantly. Not that I expect a cockroach like you to remember anything of substance.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:37 pmIgnoranceIsNotBliss:
I believe it refers to a filibuster in the past where the Senators were forced to actually speak on a topic. I'm not finding any real sources for it (not that I spent much effort), but one way it was claimed that they spoke was finding a phone book and reading names.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:38 pmHey senators... dont ever forget .. SOMEONE from within the USA sent ANTHRAX letters to you a few years ago... isnt it payback time yet?

July 16th, 2007 at 3:39 pmIt’s Monday afternoon and the Republicans are probably already thinking about hopping on a plane for the weekend.
Yeah but they are ridesharing on Pelosi's new C-130 Galaxy though on a space-available basis only; America's Grandmother needs room for her friends, family, staff, acquaintances, fans and pet gerbil ya know!

July 16th, 2007 at 3:40 pmBeats me margaret, as I said, seems like they are slowly but surely turning against the war and breaking the republican ranks. Wait till it looks like 2/3 support? Even then, I doubt they’d vote to overturn a veto.

Weren't the Republicans going to toss the filibuster rules over SCOTUS?
July 16th, 2007 at 3:43 pmLOL I can't remember. Man these Republicans slooged their breeches when they actually gained power through fear. We of course knew they were too stupid to hold onto it.
francis
The time to wait, was four years ago. The time to act is now. If the Democrats get their bill vetoed, guess what? They can just present another one, and another one, and another one until finally the Reps who are going to break away do so because they have no choice.
Keep the pressure on the Republicans and they will collapse, because they are a weak and cowardly movement made up of a weak and cowardly people.
That said, if Bush continues to veto Democrat bills, he is going to hit a point where the next thing out of Congress he sees are articles of impeachment. If the Dems aren't going to be able to get anything else done anyway, they may as well play to their base.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:43 pmWhy isn't that liberal media all over this? Maybe because vast majority of the media isn't liberal.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:44 pmNo it’s the word Republicans used to defeat Tom Daschle. They used that word constantly. Not that I expect a cockroach like you to remember anything of substance.
No, its the word that dems are using now in an attempt to malign the repubs as doing something wrong.
Listen you knuckle dragger, we CAN find some common ground here. The repubs can simply resurrect Pelosi's 'Minority Bill of Rights' and get an equal say on whatever the majority decides.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:45 pmMr. President,
There is a part of me that wishes you actually were innocent of defaming a fallen Soldier.
There is a part of me that wishes you knew what it felt like to be unjustly accused of an evil act, and to be persecuted for it nonetheless.
Then you might get an inkling of what it might be like to be handed over to the authorities in return for a mere bounty, to be carted off to a fortress on Cuba’s shores, to be tortured within an inch of your life, with all deaf to your pleas of innocence, with no habeas corpus, no access to a court to hear your side of the story, locked forever in a dank, dark cell accused of a crime with no one there to prove you didn’t commit it.
Whine, as you did last night, about your ill-treatment. This is nothing. This is but a little cyberspace ridicule in a place you choose to frequent of your own free will. This is no Gitmo.
And don’t bother to complain of injustice. You have sh*t upon the Constitution, showed no regard for the rule of law, and cheered when a man who had committed treason was set free by a president with complicity in the crime. Don’t bother to talk to me about justice. Don’t bother to talk to me about decency. Don’t bother to talk to me about America. You have no idea what these things are, punk. Take your case to the Attorney General.
Your very existence is an insult to every Soldier who fought and died for principles you cannot begin to grasp. Your attempt to insult one of those Soldiers here was simply the last straw.
I’m taking you on, motherf***er. I’m taking you on, as you blissfully sit in your mother’s dress in your basement enjoying those remaining freedoms that American Soldiers in the past have fought so hard to win for you.
And when, at last, there is a knock on the door and they come for you, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

July 16th, 2007 at 3:46 pmThis is a good first step on the part of the Democrats. Ratings for Congress and the Congressional Democrats have fallen because they have failed to take aggressive action on this issue. The Democrats need to force votes on the Republicans in a number of areas that will demonstrate that they are blocking the will of the American people. The Republicans publicly stated that their strategy was to act as obstructionists to prevent any significant legislation by the Democrats. They need to be forced to demonstrate their commitment in areas such as Iraq, campaign reform and other significant areas. The Dems need to develop a commercial citing the Republicans saying that they would act as obstructionists and highlighting the latest legisaltion killed by the Repbublicans with a list in the background of others bills obstructed with the message that progress can only be made with larger Democratic control in both houses.

July 16th, 2007 at 3:50 pmWhile I agree that the Republicans are weak and cowardly for the most part, I don’t think they’ll break because of bill after bill calling for withdrawal. This is a waste of time. There are plenty of other issues that can be brought up and possibly resolved in some manner. I can’t see the Congress winning the withdrawal of troops battle, not right now anyway, and not simply by trying over and over again. It's been said that a definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.

Here is a clue for ya, the military isnt in the habit of executing every person who leaves the military (it only executes Iraqi civilians, hat tip: Murtha).
This means that people with expertise in certain highly-secret fields such as nuclear sub capabilities, weapons design, military codes and yes, weaponizing anthrax, are going to be mingling with the general populace and perhaps grinding an axe against someone they dont like.

From New Scientist:
'The DNA sequence of the anthrax sent through the US mail in 2001 has been revealed and confirms suspicions that the bacteria originally came from a US military laboratory. The data released uses codenames for the reference strains against which the attack strain was compared. The two reference strains that appear identical to the attack strain most likely originated at the US Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick (USAMRIID), Maryland.
The new work also shows that substantial genetic differences can emerge in two samples of an anthrax culture separated for only three years. This means the attacker's anthrax was not separated from its ancestors at USAMRIID for many generations.'
In other words, durrrrr.

Frankly, what other issues? The Reps are going to fight every one of them and there will be a veto if any of them pass. You can take healthcare, the enviroment, stem cell research, gun control, abortion, religion in your schools, the repeal of the Patriot Act etc... and not a single issue will be decided.
Iraq is the line in the sand. It is the big issue, it is the elephant in the room, and it is urgent because every hour wasted on it coming to a resolution costs peoples lives.

July 16th, 2007 at 4:13 pmActually, Democrats in Congress are doing well in comparison to the Republicans:
A Washington Post/ABC News poll, which recorded a 44 percent overall approval rating for Congress, showed a 54 percent approval rating for the majority "Democrats in Congress" and 39 percent approval rating for the minority "Republicans in Congress." By contrast, the majority Republicans received approval ratings of 35 (October 8, 2006), 33 (May 15, 2006), 35 (November 2, 2005), and 42 (June 5, 2006) percent in Washington Post-ABC News polls during the previous Congress. The minority Democrats received 48, 39, 41, and 42 percent approval ratings in those respective polls.

Its just too obvious and inconsistent. Bush wins in 2004 and you go nuts, screaming about Diebold hacking the machines. Then in 2006 you win and suddenly those same machines are fair and the process was fine and happiness and bunnies and goodness.

Oh, and lets not forget, the whole war on Christmas conspiracy, whereby store clerks of the world have united to destroy Christianity by wishing you a happy holiday!
And then there is the whole conspiracy about the liberal media. You know, that conspiracy that names Time Magazine, the same Magazine that named Bush man of the year, as part of the ~evil~ liberal conspiracy to brainwash America.
And then there is the whole board game conspiracy, whereby ~evil~ liberals are turning kids to the devil by making them play DnD. Not to mention what liberals are doing in hollywood and sillicon valley.
While not all conspiracy theorists are rightwing, all rightwingers seem to be conspiracy theorists right now.

War was never declared and calling it a "War" starts you off on the wrong path.
The conflict wasn't originally about AQ. Remember? It was about democracy, deposing a tyrant and WMD's. Not about AQ, but terrorism as the new scourge.

By the way, troll, let's not get into sore losers.
Your party won in 1992, and you spent the next 8 yrs blaming everyone in that administration for mistakes not so related to governing. Bill Clinton was your anti-christ because he got a little head? No. He was destroyed because Republicans needed the power.
Forward to 2002 - Cons have all of the power: house, senate, and executive. No one to question any of it. Powers were abused and people have died due to those abuses. "Free market capitalism" is for business. "Democracy" is for governing. The line was blurred and this administration has made a business out of pain.
Forward to present - Evangelicals need to read the Bible, for the first shall be last. Evangelicals are the modern day Pharisees. They would hang the real Jesus Christ again, just as the Pharisees did back then. They praise George Bush as higher than a man, a prophet, and their influence has changed the make-up of our country's foreign policy. Modern day crusades. The worst thing public officials can have is an influx of money and/or religion. I must admit, the religion has kept him from slaughtering his own citizens. Christianity is the only thing that seperates Bush from Stalin. Stalin would slaughter anyone that stood in his way. Bush only slaughters the people that Christians allow him to kill.
I am scared to death of the direction we are headed, and so are the trolls.

July 16th, 2007 at 4:59 pmjustanothertroll
Saddam kept Al Qaeada out. Much as though he dispised America, he and Osama dispised each other even more (In part because Saddam wasn't all that religious - he had alchohol on his premises and women in his government, in part because Saddam was a narcistic little monster who didn't want the competition.)
Anyway, after Saddam was topled by America, Iraq, which is far more valuable ground then Afghanistan, the major thing keeping Osama out was removed. Osama has since moved in, with the basic hope of keeping America stuck there - and thus spending its money trying to fight a stalemate against an enemy which is only going to grow stronger over a period of time.
So long as America is occupied in Iraq, Osama is free to focus on building terror networks elsewhere, such as the UK, America's most trusted ally. Further the occupation is a major propaganda coup for those opposed to America. A coup which has thus far worked out better then hoped due to America making some downright stupid moves (Such as the introduction of torture.)
While Osama hasn't had things go all his way (For example the Iraqi people know precisely where they fit into this plan and are not in favour of Osama Bin Laden) this strategy has largely worked, with America's other enemies growing bolder as America's military starts to get overstretched fighting a relatively small portion of Osama's forces.
It is a shrewd strategy and ruthless in its execution, but it has a few weaknesses. Osama cannot take Iraq, and if America withdrew he knows he would lose against any one of them major factions in Iraq.
A withdrawal would neutralise his strategy within a few years because he is a Saudi Arabian from a Iranian family who is trying to gain power in a country which has always opposed both nations.

If the UK attacked you, the world would back America. The world doesn't like agressors. Robert Mugabe is probably the most evil man in the world right now: He has done, or is currently doing everything America accused Saddam of doing. Still, if South Africa, Zimbabwe's nearest neighbour invaded we would have sanctions placed on us.
This is because while Zimbabwe is a hellhole which has a massively negative impact on South Africa, it hasn't even hinted at threatening our borders and we do not have the self-interest level pretext required to justify a war in Zimbabwe.

July 16th, 2007 at 5:29 pmMr. President
I've actually read Marx. His theory is crap based purely on the fact that under his utopian system, which has never been tried, there is nothing to incentivise people to outperform their baseline natural abilities (EG: Go to school and become a doctor.) It is a system which lacks higher elements on Maslow's hierarchy of needs then security, as status is out.
It hasn't been tried before simply on the basis of what was required to try it, not being present in the previous "Communist" regimes. It required a highly educated industrialised nation to kick off, Russia, Cuba and China were all largely agricultural nations. Indeed, America and England are actually closer then Soviet Russia was, to Marx's ideal state.
Of course, as a rightwinger you use Marx as a insult, instead of actually acknowledging his impact on economic theory, particularly the theories of your favourite economic thinkers. While his theory was wrong, there were things he got absolutely right, such as the impact of mechanisation on manual labour for instance.
Marx was the father of modern economics, and his theories have their echoes in all other economic theories, including conservative ones. Of course, no American conservative can quite acknowledge this.
So call me a Marxist, I read the book, disagreed with a lot of it, but I understand the theory at least. I know what you are calling me. I don't think you really do.
July 16th, 2007 at 5:32 pmCT, you are an ignorant pile of crap if you think there is insufficient support of the troops here. There is no pretending and no act. It was this administration that did not arm the troops with the proper equipment and vehicles after it was requested for close to a year. It's this administration that wants to shorten the recovery time both Active duty and reserve units have instead of the one to one ratio. It's this administration that blindly ran into this conflict with absolutely no clue on what to do after we kick the crap out of a 3rd world Army.
If you came in here with an intelligent but different view you would be engaged in discussion. You throw bile and then get upset shows you have no spine, no real idea of the conflict that is engulfing this country and no idea on how to think for yourself.

July 16th, 2007 at 6:27 pmAll 263 of your comments could not make me happier I hope Mr.Reid goes on with his filibuster, all he is doing is reaffirming, what our troops are doing PROTECTING YOUR FREEDOM, I cannot believe that I am reading all of these comments back on 9/11/01, I can guarantee everyone of you were cheering our president and our troops on now you've turned tail and ran off. I support my soldiers my troops because they are the only ones that have the sack to stand up and do whats right WEATHER THEY BELIEVE IN IT OR NOT they still are serving, many are my friend. So those of you that believe that protecting your freedom is illegal thats fine if you have your way it will only lead to another attack and another someone must stand to defend me and mine, being a former soldier I would have to say that I give my soldiers 100% of my support.

OK, so I'll break my rule to give our resident bridge-dweller a clue.
Actually, young troll-san, when TP was contacted about the rampant troll problem, their specific response was, "We have tried to ban the IPs for the problem posters, but they immediately change IPs." Which, by the way, lends credence to the idea that perhaps you are using a program such as Megaphone.
So, there goes that theory on how to get rid of you, grasshopper.
But then, I'm sure such an explanation as to why such evidence proves nothing is all just GREEK to you. Hmmm?
July 16th, 2007 at 6:47 pmWhy did Hypocrite Harry Reid and the democratic Congress vote just 8 weeks ago to send another $100 million more dollars to Iraq to keep the war going for another year?
July 16th, 2007 at 6:49 pmThat's right, Republican preached for up and down votes but they won't give Dems the up and down vote they had wanted Dems to give them.
Reid accused conservatives of “protecting the President rather than protecting our troopsâ€
With 70% percent of the country wanting out of Iraq - the GOP is protecting the President and disregarding their VOTERS.
The American people want out of this war - why doesn't GOP care about the voters - they spit on their voters and cater to Bush and Cheney.
July 16th, 2007 at 6:52 pmWhy did Hypocrite Harry Reid and the democratic Congress vote just 8 weeks ago to send another $100 million more dollars to Iraq to keep the war going for another year?
Comment by Reidisahypocrite — July 16, 2007 @ 6:49 pm
Simple reason - he supports the troops. He does not let his concern for their wellfare take away from his recognition of their and the American public's concerns stand in the way of simple funding.
July 16th, 2007 at 6:59 pmWhy did Hypocrite Harry Reid and the democratic Congress vote just 8 weeks ago to send another $100 million more dollars to Iraq to keep the war going for another year?
Comment by Reidisahypocrite
Because they are playing political gamesmanship with peoples lives... I will be very shocked if they stay up even one night let alone untill they make an actual difference... that would take some standing for principal which they have proven they wont do... they are too scared of the boos that would come at first...
Vote Ron Paul. He never cared about the boos... what is right is right. The Constitution was made to keep government small... yet we want things like universal health care.... we cant have it both ways... If we want to protect the Constitution the government must be brought under control... if we want universal health care AND protect the Constituition then we must find a way that brings universal healthcare (as an example only) without it being another toy that the government gets to play with... Maybe something like Fannie Mae except all citizens are given shares that cannot be sold? I dont know, but the constant back and forth of the left and right is stupid... the damn Constitution is getting stretched out by all the back and forth... there must be a better way.
July 16th, 2007 at 7:09 pmBRING IT ON!
Actually, how can you expect to win a war when those calling the shots are losers?
Clear out the administration, then clear out of Iraq.
July 16th, 2007 at 7:09 pmComment by Aaron
So in WWII why didnt we attack Brazil smart guy? You and your kind are DEFENDING the people that attacked us on 911... by sending America into Iraq we did NOTHING about Pakistan and Saudi Arabia... Some of you are misguided.... some of you are traitors... either way OSAMA IS FREE and you have killed a bunch of people that did NOT attack us... Feel Proud? You shouldnt.
July 16th, 2007 at 7:12 pmThe Bush administration is full of power freeks who have other interests (finacial) other than the American people and troops.
July 16th, 2007 at 7:24 pmFinally...
The Reid...
Has come back...
To Congress!

OK - I don't understand computers much...
How does one go about changing an IP address?
And shouldn't there be some kind of "core" or "master" computer identification?
July 16th, 2007 at 7:33 pmAnd people saying that things "can't" change...
Are the ones who are holding us all back.
If you have positive energy... you get positive results in return.
WE THE PEOPLE CAN!
WE THE PEOPLE DESERVE IT!
AND WE THE PEOPLE WILL END THIS FALSE WAR AND HOLD OUR ELECTED LEADER ACCOUNTABLE!
IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE. No "1 person" is going to make it happen.
It's gonna take us all pulling together and making it happen.
July 16th, 2007 at 7:37 pmJust when it's needed to quell the angst of die hard Democrats, they present the illusion of having a spine. Then when they could really make a difference, they'll back down again, leaving the sychophantic, drooling public to debate endlessly about how it was the Republican's fault.
When are you idiots going to wake up and realize that BOTH sides are against you? They talk a good game but they really want to enslave us all.
Vote Ron Paul
July 16th, 2007 at 7:39 pmOk. I notice the response from CT_V1 is "prove it". Well, ok...
lets go; Original Thread "GOP wants new...." 7-13-2007
Mr. President is clearly in the thread when Soldier is insulted
We don’t need a false flag.
We have bin Laden.

Comment by Mr. President — July 13, 2007 @ 6:09 pm
Then Tired Of Fighting posted his note at around 7:00pm and trolls were silent till…

You’re all a bunch of traitors!
Comment by SGT Stephen R. Sherman — July 14, 2007 @ 2:23 pm
Then Mr. President re-emerges….
Michael, the libs are going to give you a list of outrageous claims that they insist are 100% factual. I too would like to see proof to back up some of the anti-American claims here, but let’s be honest, that ain’t going to happen!
Comment by Mr. President — July 14, 2007 @ 3:04 pm
In 7-14-07 “ White house refurses…†blog;
Mr. President tells CT_V1 that they shouldn’t use a racial slur after “Joker’s escapades…yet Joker doesn’t show up on the blog…but CT and Mr. P do. Apparently they have decided Joker did it.
Comment by CT_V1 — July 14, 2007 @ 8:42 pm
CT,
We should probably not use that name for a little while…
after The Joker’s escapades last night… well…
I’m just sayin’
Comment by Mr. President
Then of course Umar Lee keeps showing up as well as other “blogers†around CT_V1..
Comment by Mr. President — July 14, 2007 @ 9:06 pm
Wait, The Joker is ‘Umar Lee.’ Heck, I just read his blog.
And yeah, you probably have a much better handle on not being so easily reactive to these lefties than I do. Good initiative, Mr. President.
Comment by CT_V1 — July 14, 2007 @ 9:18 pm
I hope if Tired of Fighting is a real soldier that he dies like his buddy!
That’s one less Lefty!

I am an American Muslim who’s sick of you Klansman attacking my people!

And again, CT_V1 and Mr. President are there playing their name game.
So there you have it. 5 different times posting as a Soldier who gave his life for this country and other various insults.
Please copy and paste this and whenever they want to say "prove it"...you can say, fine...here. Cowards.
July 16th, 2007 at 7:51 pmDemocrats keep your spine firm!! I am very proud of you Sen. Reid.
Also do your duty and IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY. They are only paper tigers!
July 16th, 2007 at 8:01 pmIT IS ABOUT TIME!
This administration id GUILTY of CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY
IMPEACH INDICT BUSH CHENEY
Thank You Senator Reid, we need a congress who stands up and takes quick and decisive action against this disastrous administration.
July 16th, 2007 at 8:29 pmIt's great that Harry Reid is leading the fight into the night against all that endangers this great country. Meanwhile, the ignorami continue to attack with their observations about personal appearances, personal habits, etc., of the hard working Dems. Nothing with any value or substance, just nasty hate.
July 16th, 2007 at 8:40 pmGive 'Em Hell, Harry!
July 16th, 2007 at 8:42 pmWell, the Dems are showing us that they can sprint; now let's see if they can win a marathon.
How about cutting off funding for the upper echelon of the Homeland Security fiasco?
Please give participants in the filibuster plenty of publicity so that the folks back home know what a good job they are doing.
July 16th, 2007 at 8:51 pmwowwwwwwwwwwwwwww
this is amazing, is it not? Finally, its like someone has taken everyone's frustration and emotions and put it into such a monotone, yet powerful ultimatum. I can't believe what this country has come to, but i sure am glad as f*** that some people like Reid are still around..... where would we ever get without powerful people with balls? I swear it happens in any conflict.... theres always one senator or one someone that just stands up for everyone who doesn't have a voice, which is sad (in a democracy?)
please get something done, you can't keep backing down, its all force or give up.... and giving up doesn't mean giving in... ;-)
July 16th, 2007 at 10:08 pmThere is joy in Who-ville. :)
July 16th, 2007 at 11:15 pm"…but, if the republicans are stuck in the senate all night, how will they visit their hookers?"
That is so funny! They should do this for the Webb amendment too!
July 17th, 2007 at 12:38 amcan we impeach congress and the senate before we start talking about impeaching bush?
They should spend time on domestic issues and not do foreign policy. Sorry, that is the constitution.
Dislike Bush? well congress is even lower in the polls. They get $170k/yr and not accomplishing anything. Would you keep your job if your performance is that bad? At least Bush is trying to do something that is on his plate
O, and don't get me started about those earmarks that Nancy Pelosi wants to call something different so she can say there are no longer earmarks. The empress does not have clothes either.
July 17th, 2007 at 1:01 amThank you, this is only a responsible thing to do! Its about time they wise up and debate the issue which is a very pressing one.
July 17th, 2007 at 1:12 amFor harry Ried this is a good move. He needs to force them to physically filibuster that will display to the nation the republican obstructionism.
People this is a good move. Much better than the Republicans and their "nuclear option". Because it allows even republican minority to represent their voters.
We are different than the neocons. We should govern like Americans.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:51 amYES! YES! YES!
July 17th, 2007 at 7:57 amThanks Mr. Reid.
July 17th, 2007 at 8:24 amGodspeed through the night.
"Wow. This must be really scaring the trolls. CT, Mr P, and ‘Unvarnished Truth’, in 39 posts? And Mr. P shown up in multiple postings? Daaaaaaayyyyuuuuum.

Jeremy,
Most of the trolls I've seen concerning this are basement hiders with empty scrotums who have NEVER even been in stateside service.
They are the same type of chickenshit cowards who are on the neogoon side of the aisle in congress.
In other words, they have the same basis for their comments as graham had for his whining to Jim Webb on russert.
Not a bad idea Sen. Reed allowing a genuine RECORD whatever the results to "smoke out" the elected officials so they are not returned to DC. I weep for the REP who know they've ceceded freedoms to the extreme right religious zelots which weakens, divides, and destroys us all. Bravo! the REP have a legacy history will leave with the Nazi identities of Cheney and Bush but those remaining unpatriotic REP in DC who talk of supporting our army soldiers DIE and our forces weaken premenantly. Bravo for REP who first are patriotic and have courage to change, and shame on those idiots remaining loyal to a dictator like President.
July 17th, 2007 at 10:12 amIMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY, NOW!
July 17th, 2007 at 10:27 amIf oil wasn't involved and the Bushes weren't one of the largest oil families in the States, the war would have already ended. IT's almost as if he's poopooing the fact that there are terrorist here in the States that need to be dealt with. For some reason he seems to think they're still over there. Most likely they're not. They're not going to come into our country with a sign around they're necks advertising the fact that they're terriorists. Besides, the war over in Iraq is like Viet Nam. You can't fight an enemy that knows how to live off the land of their own country. Most of the people have lived a very rough life and know what needs to be done to stay alive. They have lived the life of dodging bombs and bullets.
July 17th, 2007 at 11:22 amWell, finally Harry gave the apologists something to crow about. Their short memories seem to forget that Harry was filibustering not so long ago. Obviously they feel that payback is hell. Republicans cannot possibly come off looking worse than the Democrats do in general.
July 17th, 2007 at 11:29 amyou pathetic liberals, like the bleeding hearts did not use the fillabuster for years to try to block everything. Republicans have plenty to say to last all night, if the liberals just listen they may learn something but I doubt it, it takes intelligence to learn.
July 17th, 2007 at 11:52 amBob Hennessey
Funny how you conservatives use the exact same language as 1980's comic book supervillains, no?
July 17th, 2007 at 12:11 pmI'm still in ignorance of the outcome, if there is one yet. But I went ahead and blogged it.
As I was trying to check out the story, I stumbled across this:
clipped from news.yahoo.com
I think that really should ring some alarm bells about who is behind this war, and who's going to benefit by it. Seeing as the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi, Bin Ladin is Saudi, Al-Queda is Saudi funded - and Bush wants to attack their mortal, religious enemy, Iran?
Hm.
July 17th, 2007 at 1:26 pmBin Ladin stated that they would beat America using the same methods as he assisited in defeating Russia. We absolutely must stay and win the war in the Middle East or be overcome on our own soil by cloned Bin Ladins. Afganistan's future rests on our victory, as does ours.
July 17th, 2007 at 1:29 pmRuth Williams
This whole situation is typical of our broken political system. Here we are arguing over republican/democrat views while our family and friends are dying in a country that does not even want us there. Pull your head out of your ass, stop listening to that idiot that managed to get elected by the courts and bring our people home. There is nothing that we do over there in Irag that will be lasting, since everyone over there hates us anyway. Stop playing politics and bring our people home.
July 17th, 2007 at 1:59 pmWow CECIL...that was an inteligent comment. excepted, though.
And it's an occupation, not a war! The terror began the day we forgot about the real culprits of 911, but wait, there is no oil there is there???
July 17th, 2007 at 2:23 pmGIVE EM HELL HARRY!!!!!!!!!!
If it make one iota, I would join you! But hey, who am I but a tax paying AMERICAN citizen...this Administration hasn't paid attention to us in years!!!!!!
Sorry Harry--- turnabout is fair play!! You were just using this tactic not too long ago--The only difference is that the Rebublicans are fighting for something that Democrats don't understand: Freedom and defeating an enemy that wants to kill all of us even Democrats--Leave (surrender) like a bunch of cowards and we give the Al Kaeda the bravado that they made us back down--You people don't get it We must win or suffer the consequences of terrorist attacks here!! There is a treason why we have had NO terrorist attacks since 9-11 that is no accident!!
It is easy to shout little bumper sticker slogans when you really don't understand the consequences of walking out on this conflict
July 17th, 2007 at 2:27 pmThere is no solution to the Iraq War. If Americans really want the war to end, and they truly care for their ‘Soldiers’, then they will immediately, without hesitation, cease and desist from driving their cars. Other than that, you have no one to blame but yourselves. Also, I have news for you folks. Bush is ‘The Leaker’.
In the Name of Brutus
Dames and Gents,
In times unprecedented and tinged with despair, it is appropriate to reflect on the founding of our great nation. It was not with George Washington, but with Brutus, and not the one who killed Caeser. There was another who rebelled against the tyrant monarchy of Rome, The Tarquins. He wrote the Roman Constitution that would stand for 500 years. His sons sided with the monarchy. The monarchy lost. So to punish his sons and found a perfect union, he immolated his own sons.
Machiavelli speaks fluently and voluminoulsy and voiciferously on this subject, in ‘The Discourses’, and yet is proved wrong on several counts by the miracle of America. He says that a nation founded in servitude, as America was a colony, will never win its freedom. He also says that a nation founded on fertile soil that is easily defended, will in time loose all of its freedoms because it will become, eventually, inevitably, sloth and sated, and will forget to protect them.
As regards 'The DC Madam', I am personally involved. You can view my involvement at http://www.maytheygetwhattheydeserve.com/KAT.html
Sometimes a mouse will lead you to a kat, and a kat can lead you to a rat and a rat, ironically, can lead you to the truth. And the truth, as they say, and as it is written, will set you free.
May all those who sincerely and patiently wait for freedom be free and may all those who desire to steal those freedoms find instead the dire consequences that accompany contempt for a great man like Brutus.
As regards Machiavelli,
eram sapiens tamen nefas
And again,
vox vocis publicus est vox vocis deus
May The Republic stand forever and bring the Glory Of The World, with Dignity, into Its Treasury.

July 17th, 2007 at 4:31 pmYou cowardly little democratic liberal traitors are like little girls cowering in the corner. You do not deserve to even be called Americans, and should be put into jail forever for your treason! You belong on the fromt lines in IRAQ, not those brave boys defending our country. Harry Reid is such a loser!!!!!!!!
July 17th, 2007 at 5:40 pmYou all make this country sick, and you will lose in 2008. We are all onto your little pitiful game!
I have lived through Viet Nam, etc, etc, and now Iraq. I have seen good men and women die "for their country" which is just about the highest honor you can place on someone. BUT, just as Viet Nam, we can't win in Iraq. To win would mean killing millions - a price too high just to spread Christianity and the "western" ideals.
Before, Viet Nam helped our country prosper as far as money went - we manufactured the guns, the bullets, the bombs, the planes. Now we buy gunpowder, iron, depleted uranium, electronics (parts and knowledge), even most of our food - FROM NON-AMERICAN sources. 2 out of 3 of our factories are either closed, or looking to close. Most manufacturing, cleaning, building, repairing, creating - comes from illegal aliens (of one gender or another) and we wonder "What is happening?"
Yes, infortunately for the thousands who have already given their lives = we cannot win - those honorable ones have no final victory, no parade, no stories in the history books.
I have never believed in running, but when there is no possible victory, it's time to just stop, come home, lick our wounds alone, and get on with our lives - AND DEMAND THAT THERE NEVER EVER BE ANOTHER SITUATION LIKE THIS. WE ELECT PRESIDENTS, WE ELECT CONGRESS - THEY REPRESENT US, THE CITIZENS, not big business, not illegal aliens, not the power hungry elite, but the working citizens of what was once the most intelligent country on earth.
Ernie - US Army Retired
