Is Vitter ‘morally unfit to govern’?

Is Vitter ‘morally unfit to govern’?

At a press conference this afternoon, Sen. David Vitter broke his silence and spoke for the first time since he acknowledged being on the D.C. madam’s list. A remorseless Vitter attacked his “long time political enemies and those hoping to profit from the situation.” Vitter said he would not answer questions on the issue, claiming that “might sell newspapers but wouldn’t serve my family or my constituents well.” Watch it:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2007/07/vitters.320.240.flv]

In Oct. 1998, Vitter attacked President Clinton, arguing the proper question was not whether people cared but rather whether Clinton was “morally unfit to govern.”

Some current polls may suggest that people are turned off by the whole Clinton mess and don’t care — because the stock market is good, the Clinton spin machine is even better or other reasons. But that doesn’t answer the question of whether President Clinton should be impeached and removed from office because he is morally unfit to govern. [Times-Picayune, 10/29/98]

This guy is a joke and his wife a bigger joke. Feel sorry for his kids.

  2. Silence Dogood says:

Apparently the standard is: If you bargain for sex at arms-length (no pun), you’re moral.

  3. Kryptik says:

    Remember, everyone

    It’s Okay If You’re A Republican.

  4. veritas says:

And this guy is one of the biggest hypocrites on the planet!

  5. krazny says:

No the standard is if your a republican it’s okay. Look frankly I think this whole issue is between him, and his family. I do find it amazingly hyprocritical to attack another for the same thing he was guilty of, but that doesn’t ever stop any politician.

  6. Some Guy says:

hi everybody, this is my wife, the one i cheated on with a hooker, she’s here with me today so that i can hide behind her skirt. now, don’t bother me, i’ve got a lot of important work to do.

(gawd, what a pathetic loser. and this from the family values party.)

  7. veritas says:

And it’s not just the DC Madam whom he’s utilized the sexual services of….yesterday a New Orleans Madam spoke to the press about his many encounters with her girls. So conceivably, this hypocrite was shouting for Clinton’s removal most loudly and believes that the same standard shouldn’t apply to himself?? Huh??

I guess he’s a bona fide member of the Bush Cabal now – their mantra is “do as I say – don’t do as I do”. This is appalling. Vitter’s moral character is toast and he’s clearly broken the law….I’d say it’s a one, two, and he’s outta there!

  8. bd says:

so instead of confessing, vitter went into attack mode. well, lets hope hookers come forward with pictures and stuff.

  9. veritas says:

He was trysting with his own hookers while condemning Clinton for a BJ?? What’s wrong with this picture? Have we all been beamed up??

  10. Wanda Lust says:

    what was his number again?

  11. Kryptik says:

The reason people are attacking him is because of the blatant hypocrisy, especially in cases like this. They’re supposed to be the party of ‘family values’, and yet you get crap like this from the most ADAMANT of family rights jokers, ones who claim gay marriage will destroy the bonds of marriage, then go out to solicit hookers (something ILLEGAL, mind you).

And his wife is stepford enough to defend him for the same thing she bashed Hillary for?

And like everyone points out, this is the same crap he said Clinton should RESIGN for. And yet his immediate reaction is ‘the media is blowing this up, I’m a GOOD Republican dammit!’

  12. veritas says:

These sickos use their wives as their official ‘tools’. When Mrs. Vitter geta a load of how she appears right now during these press conferences, she’ll be out the door….with his money…and his kids. Otherwise, she’s a total fool. Let’s see….Madam Palfrey mentioned that he’d used her outfit’s services several times….and then the New Orleans Madam said he was a regular customer dating back to 1999. I’d say Vitter needs to immediately go into alcohol rehab, don’t you? He’s obviously got an addiction problem…..yeah…addicted to hookers, that is.

  13. Ryan says:

Maybe Vitter’s wife was just angry because Clinton didn’t *pay* Monica.

  14. fly on the wall says:

He was trysting with his own hookers while condemning Clinton for a BJ?? What’s wrong with this picture? Have we all been beamed up??

Hey, if it was good enuff for newt…

  15. veritas says:

The fact that Vitter is not resigning in shame and is, instead, attempting to attack and spin is not a good sign for him. I’d say that his MO here will infuriate the people of Louisiana to the point where they will pitch him from office themselves, if he won’t leave quietly and discreetly.

  16. tom baker says:

like 98% of republican’ts, Vitter is unfit to sell aluminum siding, let alone govern anything.

it’s cute that, like most paranoid righties, he actually thinks he’s significant enough to have “enemies” – what a hoot

someone flip the lever on the toilet and flush this guy, already

  17. WaltinTexas says:

    Typical right-wing hypocrisy.

yeah, but look at him. looked like someone just came back from Uranus.

  22. Some Guy says:

only a republican can spin infidelity into statement about family values.

  23. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Let’s not forget that Mrs. Vitter had some strong words for Mrs. Clinton as well. She proudly said she wouldn’t stand for that kind of behavior. She said that if her husband behaved like Clinton she would leave and she would take something with her. She proudly compared herself to the woman who cut her husband’s dick off. Talk is so cheap for conservatives. I don’t know why anyone believes anything they say anymore.

  24. Marcus Aurelius says:

Vitter: What Clinton did was a moral transgression, what I did was a business transaction.

  25. Furious says:

Some men pay for prostitutes while others get them for free. But whether Senator David Vitter or Rep. Duke Cunningham paid for pleasure with their cash or their votes, their Republican colleagues appear ready to protect their Johns all the same, at least as long as public opinion will allow.

    For the details, see:
“Vitter, Cunningham and the GOP Parliament of Whores.”

  26. veritas says:

Isn’t it amazing how the official “aids czar” was using hookers while making others take an oath of celibacy and safe sex? Isn’t it strange that Vitter who was most vociferously attacking Bill Clinton for oral sex (not paid sex) is the one shacking up for 8 years or more…..and most actively doing so while screaming about Bill Clinton. He who doth protest too much….is usually doing the same thing himself.

Imagine this visual: Vitter in full flagrantia with a sleazy hooker who is painting her nails as he bumps and grinds….whilst he is mentally composing his next attack on Bill Clinton for not acknowledging the sanctity of marriage.

Now THIS visual would make for great comedy or satire.

  27. Mr. President says:

  28. Jackie says:

New Christian values and the Church see no problem with Vitter or any GOP official committing sin. It’s those Democrats that are bad. This is the new values American children will be raised on. If your rich or a Republican you can do anything but if your one of those other Americans your a sinner and you must go to jail. Now serving in the military to protect the country is only for those other people. Ralph Reed needs to come out of hiding and start his criminal acts with the church again. NO worries Karl Rove will give the church big bucks and as President Bush said move on and get over it. Everyone has a price and so does the Church. Ask the Pastors diving BMW’s.

  30. Tracy says:

And if you are a Democrat. Let’s cover all the bases here. BTW Vitter should resign in my opinion.

  31. L'il Me says:

Forgive the superficial observation, but if I had to make a TV appearance as the wronged wife of a husband cavorts with hookers, I wouldn’t do it in a leopard print outfit. A little too cheesey.

  32. Wayne says:

    boring.
    Comment by Mr. President

    Yes, you are.

  33. Marie says:

Why do Republicans think their “shit don’t stink”?

Someone who called out Clinton as being unfit to govern has no such qualms about himself; in fact he asks his wife to defend him.
What they do in their private life is theirs and theirs alone – that is not the issue – the issue is the blatant double standard: the notion that they always have good reasons or excuses for their behavior but they do not tolerate misbehavior – real or imagined – in Democrats.

  34. Markus Arelius says:

The look on his wife’s face says it all.

  36. Zooey says:

    Oh lordy,

I just saw this on Hardball. Actually, Mrs Vitter makes me more sick than her husband. She was so judgmental of Hillary Clinton, and she now has a hell of a nerve to say this was a private issue, and to ask for the media to back off.

    Wow.

Want to take bets on whether he does or not?
    I’m betting he doesn’t, heh

  40. krazny says:

From what I understand of New Orleans pols, the idea they would be meeting up with hookers isn’t that unusual. I remember a friend from there telling me that one of the former mayors was caught all the time in a cheap hotel room by the airport. I think they have somewhat different view of infidelity then the rest of America.

  41. Zooey says:

Th hypocrisy of these two is astounding.

  42. John says:

that he hired a hooker while in a marriage … his business. not cool, but his business. that he went after Clinton for the Monica deal-ee-o when he was in the midst of his own infidelities … the public’s business.

don’t know how he maintains any credibility amongst his constituents. don’t know how he helps the GOP and their platform of family values. don’t know how he could stand up there and talk about highway bills after just completely humiliating his wife who is 6 inches to his left. it is very sad for his family and yet another example of the addage that those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

media camped outside his home and church is despicable and there is no excuse for it’s parasitic nature, but changing the subject does not make his s**t stink any less.

  43. veritas says:

Cheney’s trysting would have been outed immediately on the ranch when he shot his friend in the face. He was shacking with Pamela Willeford and the official police reports would have indicated that she was at his side when the shooting occurred. Lynne Cheney would have done a Bobbitt job on him if that made headlines. This , along with the alcohol level in his blood, was the reason he refused to allow the local PD in that evening….so his little Swiss Miss (he made her am ambassador to Switzerland, now ain’t that convenient for trysting?) could get out of dodge along with his BAC to drop back down to normal. Who does he think he’s fooling? Everyone knows these details.

  44. veritas says:

If he doesn’t resign, the people of Louisiana will pitch him out. They’re still angry about the government’s response to Katrina and they will show no mercy to this hypocrite.

  45. LandSurveyor says:

If their marriage is private why is she there? LOL.
Probably trying to keep CPS (Child Protective Services) off their backs considering the diaper stories.

  46. anonymous says:

So he called the escort service, but didn’t use the prostitutes… It just makes me think of Principal Skinner, getting caught going to the burlesque house on the Simpsons.
“I only went there to get directions on how to get away from there.”

  47. veritas says:

Vitter’s a common hypocritical sleazebag – nothing more. This guy’s political career is over, and deservingly to.

  48. upside00 says:

When you have the republican god on your side, you can do anything and it is kewl!

Glad we got that straightened out!

She probably won’t apologize to Hillary for her past statements either.
Both of them ( her and husband) are hypocrites.

  50. flex says:

Hell, every neo-con Republican is morally unfit to govern. not only that but they are mentally unfit to govern. just ask them where are the Iraqi WMD or how great buddies Saddam and Bin Laden were, NOT!

these evil extremists are known more appropriately as the GHP , Grand Hypocrisy Party.

  51. veritas says:

#46 The New Orleans Madam has proof that he used the services of her girls many, many times and she’s already spoken to the press about it. Backpeddling is impossible for Vitter now. He’s toast.

  52. veritas says:

#25 Furious: Thanks for the Duke Cunningham stuff. There’s been so much more chicanery lately that I’d totally forgotten about that. Did you know that Dukie Cunningham was also involved in Katherine Harris’s campaign back around the time that she helped rig Florida along with Jebbie in 2000? There was another player involved and I can’t recall his name at the moment. I think he’s also under investigation. Katherine Harris SHOULD BE under close scrutiny right now for her role in enabling the stealing of election 2000.

  53. Robert M. says:

I just love questions like this one: “Is a republican morally unfit to govern?”

The only possible answer is: “Of course he/she is.”

You don’t need any of the facts, figures, or slimy details to get that question right. Anyone willing to continue sporting that little (R) after their name is just plain dumb.

The old adage goes: “You can tell a lot about a man’s character by the company he keeps.”

The republican party in America today is the most corrupt organization that has ever existed.

  54. upside00 says:

But remember…. this is Louisiana…. home of Huey Long and a whole host of fun-luvin’ boyz. I am sure this will fade away in a week or so. After all, it is so mundane now from those @ssclown repugs.

  55. veritas says:

I’m wondering what the people can do (en masse) to bring attention to the fact that we believe Vitter to be morally and ethically unfit to serve in office any longer?

  56. Zooey says:

Both of them ( her and husband) are hypocrites.
    Comment by Wayne

Absolutely. If Vitter hadn’t put himself on that moral pedestal, I would be defending his right to privacy. As it is, the press can have their feeding frenzy.

    He should resign.

What kind of sex was he paying for?

Dress up, spankings, strap ons, water sports, poopy fun, S&M, leather, rubber, maybe have them dress up like little school girls, or little school boys? Come on let’s get to the bottom !! of this.

    Inquiring minds want to know.

Mr. P(rick) you and CT_V1 couldn’t get a hooker to do scum like you.

  59. veritas says:

Upside00 – while I would tend to agree with you having been to New Orleans many times myself, I believe that this is a dual edged sword for Vitter. Not only was he vociferously vocal about how unfit Clinton was to serve because of his indiscretion but Vitter’s indiscretion involves breaking the law….solicitation of a prostitute and paying for sex. Add this one to the facts cited by the New Orleans Madam who was shut down in 2003 and pled guilty of charges.

Also, Vitter has been associated with the christian right (albeit the hypocritical christian right (perhaps that combination of words implies hypocrisy at face value anyway?) and the Christian right should come down on him pretty hard right now.

  62. robbez_92107 says:

Wow – this is the most troll-free thread I have seen on TP in quite some time. Kind of hard to spin this into anything other that “Clinton did it, too?” What a sad symbol the Rethuglican party has become.

Mr. President your attempt at dramatic brevity is embarrassing. Clinton never judged other people’s marriages while failing to live to his own standards. If you were a married parent you’d realise how important that is to mature Americans.

    Comment by Mr. President

Of course, in your case, boys will be girls too…

Wait a minute, Clinton never did THAT…

  77. Buck Fush says:

Mmmmm, from the south…I forgot to mention – FARM ANIMALS – maybe he had them dress up a goat as a catholic school girl, and the hooker would spank him, and he would cry and beg for his sins to be cleansed while holding a picture of Ted Haggard and Jeff Gannon.

Come on hookers, what did he do?

  78. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Tracy: “Oh Monica got payed…far more than any hooker could for the same service. Promises made by a powerful man.”

Tracy, you conservatives sure do have selective memories. To review for you, Kenneth Starr and his crew of ambitious headhunters spent over $70 million in taxpayer money trying to prove what you seem to think happened, but couldn’t. Do you remember? It was all part of the “obstruction of justice” portion of their phony evidence for impeachment. They were very thorough; called lots of witnesses; searched lots of data, but no evidence that Monica got any payment whatsoever for her “services.”

It just kills guys like you that Clinton never had to pay for it, doesn’t it. Face it. Monica told her friends in Portland that she was bringing her “presidential kneepads” with her to Washington. She stalked Clinton. That doesn’t, in my opinion, absolve him of guilt in the matter, but it does confirm the general rule that conservatives perverts pay for it and liberals don’t have to.

  79. OxyCon says:

    Vitter’s performance was disgusting.
Repubs don’t even have the decency to resign when they are caught breaking the law and their campaign pledges any more.
Poor, poor Vitter. Why is everyone so mean to him? He’s just a hypocrite who broke the law and lives his life exactly the same way as the people he criticizes and campaigns against.

  80. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I won’t be able to post much tonight, and since this is the [perfect topic for it, I’ll leave a little sampling from my next parody. This is the beginning (you can’t see the whole thing yet) of a parody of the song “Christmas”, from Tommy, by The Who. This particular song I call “Christians”.. Enjoy the sample:

“Did you ever see the faces of
The Christians they get so excited.
Waking up their kids to see if
    Armageddon’s finally been ignited.
They believe in Christ and say His
Teachings are a part of their philosophy.
Peeking in their door we see their
Lives are being lived in pure hypocrisy.”

I hope to have the rest of “Georgie, A Rock Opera Parody” ready to post by the end of this weekend. (I hope.)

    Enjoy, and peace to all.

  81. John Bobbit says:

Well Mrs. Vitter, you gonna go all Lorena Bobbit on your husband like you said you would, or are you a hypocrite too?

  82. Bjobotts says:

After victimizing others by loudly condemning their actions, Vitter pretends to be the victim here because his family is suffering. It’s his long time political enemies doing this to him. Not a word about his hypocrisy, or whether he committed a crime by paying for prostitutes in DC. No apology for the ones he morally condemned for doing less than what he has done.
His hypocrisy angers us more than his acts. But still, why is he allowed back into the Seante after admitting to being with prostitutes which is a crime in DC.
Oh, I forgot, he told his wife he was sorry so that should be the end of that.

  123. curmudgeon says:

Watch the sheep in Louisiana to fall right into line behind Vitter and pretend that nothing happened. Most of his flock would probably rather die a slow, painful death than acknowledge that they may have made a mistake in voting for him.

Like with Clinton, the overriding issue was never really about sex, but rather about whether the politician in question was perceived as supporting the agenda of the extremely wealthy and and the large multi-national corporations. Nothing else matters, unless a side issue can be used to attack someone believed to be concerned about the wellbeing of those in the bottom 99%, income-wise. As always, it is all about the money.

In most jurisdictions, prostitution (as well as patronizing a prostitute) is considered illegal and can subject both the prostitute and the “john” to arrest. Clinton’s actions may have been immoral, but were not illegal. And a charge of perjury can only hold up if the information has some critical bearing upon the outcome of a legal proceeding. Clearly, Vitter broke the law, Clinton did not.

Their calls to others to allow them to put this sordid affair behind them and proceed as if nothing happened truly ring hollow. Where were their calls for compassion when the Clintons were on the receiving end of similar scrutiny?

  124. willyloman says:

re: ” Vitter said he would not answer questions on the issue, claiming that “might sell newspapers but wouldn’t serve my family or my constituents well.” ”

Well yes his moral violations and marital betrayal is Vitter’s business.

BUT his likely use of condoms when being serviced by prostitutes would be his constituents and all American’s business.

He opposes family planning, condoms, sex education and safe-sex in his public actions. This puts the rest of us at risk of AIDS, VD, hepatitis C, botched abortions, unwanted children, abuse, proverty etc etc.

On this issue, the rubber hits the road, so to speak….and he should be pursued to answer to this hypocrisy.

Readers might want to take in this excerpt about Vitter’s victory in 2004 from USA Today. It would seem the AP has been corrupted for a long time (surprised?). Check out the first phrase (from the 7th paragraph of the article at: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/vote2004/2004-11-02-la-senate_x.htm

Then look at the last paragraph shown here (paragraph 11 of the original article).

    from:
“Vitter avoids runoff, first Louisiana Republican to Senate
    NEW ORLEANS (AP) 11/2/04

“Turnout set a record. Previous high was in the 2000 election when 1.8 million voters went to the polls. On Tuesday, more than 1.9 million voted.

“Vitter’s victory, and John’s loss, breaks a strong winning tradition for moderate Democrats from Acadiana, who have put together coalitions of blacks and centrist whites to win.

“In addition, John ran a sometimes hesitant campaign, stumbling in debates while Vitter sounded confident. John finished with 29% and Kennedy 15%.

“Under the state’s open primary, a candidate must get more than 50% to avoid a runoff, and Vitter just managed it. “The time for Republicans to win is tonight,” ex-Gov. Buddy Roemer said at Vitter’s victory party, summing up the GOP’s Senate-race strategy.

“Vitter was apparently also helped by bad weather across the state, dampening turnout. “Mother nature cooperated,” said a parish councilman from Vitter’s home turf of suburban New Orleans, Tom Capella, at Vitter’s victory party.”

Funny how a record turnout in a Democratic state where people waited in line for hours could produce a winning Republican, isn’t it?

Who was running the election? How did these people vote–DREs, paper, how? Were all the votes counted? So many questions, so little information.

It does not matter, that much, that Vitter had an extra-marital affair.

What matters is that while he was risking his wife to another women’s diseases, etc. Vitter was simultaneously involving himself in the same illiicit activities which he felt strongly, verbally, and overtly to all America, that Clinton should be impeached for.

I am sick to death of these hypocritical republicans who whine, mea culpa, mea culpa, yet throw stones in order to cost the American public millions of dollars and attempt to bring down the governmental leaders(Clinton). It is appalling. Vitter should be thrown out of office, not because of his indiscreet affair, but because of the egregious, lying, complicit activity for which he felt another should be punished, but not himself. These guys are absolutely insane in my opinion. INSANE. If Vitter is a lawyer he should lose his license based on simple moral turpitude issues.

So call him out on his hypocrisy, but leave his personal life alone.

We should not forget the commitment made towards the U.N. Millennium Goals (a pact of ending extreme world hunger by the year 2025) in 2000. While the U.S. government and media keep focusing on defense policies and the war in Iraq, 1.2 billion people in the world continue surviving on less than $1 dollar a day. According to The Borgen Project, an annual $19 billion dollars is needed to eliminate half of the extreme poverty affecting the world by the year 2015. To my sense, it is almost unacceptable to have spent so far more than $340 billion in Iraq only, when we have more than war immunities to change the world and eliminate poverty.

  227. Wayne says:

    and I misspelled it, Repentance

  228. Wayne says:

In Biblical Hebrew, the idea of repentance is represented by two verbs: שוב shuv (to return) and נחם nicham (to feel sorrow).

In the New Testament, the word translated as ‘repentance’ is the Greek word μετάνοια (metanoia), “after/behind one’s mind”, which is a compound word of the preposition ‘meta’ (after, with), and the verb ‘noeo’ (to perceive, to think, the result of perceiving or observing). In this compound word the preposition combines the two meanings of time and change, which may be denoted by ‘after’ and ‘different’; so that the whole compound means: ‘to think differently after’. Metanoia is therefore primarily an after-thought, different from the former thought; a change of mind accompanied by regret and change of conduct, “change of mind and heart”, or, “change of consciousness”. One of the key descriptions of repentance in the New Testament is the parable of the prodigal son found in the Gospel of Luke 15 beginning at verse 11.

Oh, pul-lease, you smarmy little sh*t. So someone gets convictded of a crime, and during the sentencing, they admit they’re guilt, and then turn to attack the ones who exposed them. Oh yeh, that’s gonna go over really well w/ the judge.

Thanks for answering your own question. My point repentance has nothing to do with attacking others.
If you profess repentance then attack someone else, you are truely not sorry for what you yourself did.

Clinton was a shit, too. So what? He didn’t break the law with Monica, he lied when the perverted prosecutor started digging into stuff that was none of his business. Hillary is yet another hypocrite for putting up with Bill’s crap. She should have dropped him like a hot potato. Would you trust the country to someone who will put up with a cheating spouse with nary a peep?

Taking responsibility for wrongdoing, then attacking those trying to exploit it isn’t the same thing as avoiding responsibility for it. Now, Wayne, we all know that most Americans agree on the things that you listed (though I’m sure some folks here are biting their tongues *figuratively* to keep from attacking one of their own over that right to bear arms part). It’s the things you omitted that make you a lefty. And while I’m sure you’d love for me to go into detail about that too, I haven’t the time nor the desire to do so. Most of your opinions are supported by the folks posting here. That would make you a lefty, bud. ;)

upright left, I think your argument on repentence is weak.

“Repentence” as a concept has nothing to do with “not attacking others”, you’re right. But neither does it have anything to do with :attacking others”.

Wayne’s original comment wasn’t so much about the concept of repentence as on the nature of the act.

Repentence requires remorse. And remorse generally involves a sense of one’s own failings. Attacking opponents tends to shift focus from one’s own failings to those of others, thus defeating the purpose of remorse.

That’s not to say that the attackers are right, just to say that the demonstrated remorse is… less than pure.

You seem to be confusing the issue, like a lot of wingnuts here (not saying you’re a wingnut, just observing the similarity in argument).

Progressives aren’t criticizing Vitter for his lifestyle choices. Aside from his tastes being technically illegal, they’re the business of himeself and his family.

Except that Vitter made them the business of the electorate when he criticized Clinton for lesser sins than he was committing. (Clinton’s indiscretions were at least legal ones.) If you can point out where and when Clinton claimed that someone was unfit to govern because of some personal failing, I’ll grant you equivalency.

Until then, “It’s the hypocrisy, not the sex.” And they are NOT equal.

I would agree with you if this video involved Vitters speaking out against the original revelation. This video, in it’s entirety, involves new allegations and others who are trying to advance their own cause based upon his mistake. That is what Vitters attacked. Again, despite the inferences of some here, I don’t support Vitters. He has no business talking to others about matters of morality in light of this. However, that doesn’t make it ok for TP to engage in dishonest reporting or for bloggers to make dishonest claims about whether he has repented or not. ;)

I am more than sure you would like to hang on to a senator and his salary. Both Vitter’s are in the public eye. So it isn’t private any more. And you shouldn’t be left alone to just go on with your scheduled plans because you want to.

I the press would confront Vitter with his statement on Clinton and ask if he still stands by his words that “Clinton should step down because he can’t govern”

Were it not for republicans like stalwort Vitter and his beautiful and chaste wife could you imagine what America would be like?

  264. missmolly says:

The fact that “Clinton did it, too” is a non-issue. More relevant is that Clinton never pointed a finger at anybody else and declared them “morally unfit to govern” because of their sex life.

The fact that prostitution is illegal isn’t an issue. Cheating on your wife is cheating on your wife, whether you seduce one of your interns or go to a professional. Exceeding the speed limit is illegal, too. There are consequences to pay for either offense, but guilt doesn’t automatically make somebody ineligible for their job.

Members of both major parties can create long lists of elected officials from the “other party” who have been caught with their pants down. I personally would prefer it if EVERYBODY could keep their pants zipped. But since they don’t, I am somewhat content to let a person’s sex life be their business, unless it involves sex by force or sex with minors.

I am far more interested in what the people I elect are doing about the war in Iraq, our messed-up health care system, the budget deficit, ensuring civil rights for everyone, etc. If my president, senators, congressman, etc. is taking care of the problems I elected him to take care of, he can go hump until he drops for all I care.

If it’s all the same to you, Happy Guy, I think we’d prefer to let someone who actually understands our positions be the one who encapsualtes them for us.

If you can provide evidence that Bill Clinton ever stated publicly that someone guilty of infidelity is “unfit to govern” because of that infidelity, if he ever suggested that such an official should resign because of moral failings, then you might have an argument.

Excuse me — then you might have an argument that makes sense. Because you clearly have an argument right now, it’s just a really, really lame one.

    It’s the hypocrisy, stupid.

  267. spit take says:

Oh, and I see Happy Guy also has a “shifting standard”; he equates a long list of documented and in many cases, prosecuted sexual misconduct and perversion among Republicans with a quick, slap-dash trio of rumors, innuendo and ancient history among Democrats.

Certainly proves his point. No — wait — it proves OUR point. Thanks, Happy Guy.

  268. The Dogfather says:

These repug stooges and their enabler trolls are forgetting one thing — it’s not the adultery or the hookery that’s the issue here with Vitter, IT’S THE MORAL HYPOCRISY.

A guy who says one thing while beating his chest about how morally superior he is than someone else, but then turns around and does the same thing and only “apologizes to his wife and his God” when he’s caught, is the biggest hypocrite in the room.

Oh, except for his wife, who says if he ever did this sorta thing, she’d cut it off and leave with something in her hand. Since Vitter didn’t seem to be speaking in falsetto, and I didn’t see any blood on his pants, obviously she’s a hypocrite as well.

New motto: “The Repuglican Party — Two Hypocrites for the Price of One!!”

  269. Conservatron says:

Here is another big difference between Vitter’s incident and Clinton’s incident.

When Clinton was caught, he lied and lied and lied and then, lied some more.

Only Liberals would defend a man that lies about his cheating.

Everyone is human and EVERYONE could have done what Clinton and Vitter did. But it is inexcusable to lie about it after you have been caught.

we all have moral lapses in which we do things that go completly against what we believe in. But most of us don’t lie about it if caught.

I am sure that this moral difference escapes most amoral Liberals.

Adultery is not a crime. Soliciting a prostitute is. David Vitter committed multiple illegal acts while acting as a US Senator. Morality and hypocrisy have nothing to do w/ this. An elected official that commits an illegal act while serving should be run out of town on a rail. Why do the simplest f**king things become so mired in BS and spin? This is a minor news story, when compared to the other heinous acts committed by our elected officials, but it captures exactly how f**ked up our government is.

That as good of a joke as mine! I know you are just joking behind that keyboard of yours.

My how the liberals today have move away from what he represented not to mention being in favor of the status quo.

“…and the fact that Robert Byrd long ago apologized for his earlier involvement with the KKK and now has a very high rating from the NAACP.”

You know and I know that the ONLY reason KKK Byrd got a pass from the NAACP is because he is a Democrat. I wouldn’t have made a bit of difference if ANY Republican apologized and you know it. They would never let them live it down. The NAACP is a partisian hack group led by Jackson and Sharpton.

I know that my Caucasian, Republican late stepfather was a card-carrying member of the NAACP. I also know that it extended invitations to all GOP contenders for president to come to a recent meeting, but only Congressman Tancredo showed up. BTW, its chairman is Julian Bond.

“I know that my Caucasian, Republican late stepfather was a card-carrying member of the NAACP.”

Was your stepfather a former Klan member that apologized for his past affiliation and was also a member of Congress? Example: If it were divulged that say Norm Colman senator from Minnesota, was a former KKK member, the NAACP wouldn’t give him that time of day much less let him become a member of the NAACP.

“I also know that it extended invitations to all GOP contenders for president to come to a recent meeting, but only Congressman Tancredo showed up.”

I might as well have been the Black Panthers or the Nation of Islam handing them out…both of which are racist groups.

“BTW, its chairman is Julian Bond.”

But the leaders are Sharpton and Jackson two of the most racist people in America.

Poor little Chickenhawk Tracy knows he is no longer in a position to speak loftily about the “nobility” of the war in Iraq while he sits home with his “wife and kids,” whom he doesn’t “want to leave for an extended period of time,” so now he is trying to argue about racism. I’m not buying it–particularly on a thread about Senator Vitter, who, we both agree, should resign.

It is interesting that you picked the example of Norm Coleman (R, MN), who you probably know used to be Democrat. A friend of mine in Minnesota told me how Coleman, when running for Senate, showed up at a tribute to F. Scott Fitzgerald, undoubltely one of the most famous people to hail from St. Paul. According to my friend, Coleman uttered some platitudes to Fitzgerald, but it was quite apparent to the audience that he had never read any of F. Scott’s works and didn’t know what he was talking about–just a phony attempt to capture the “intellectual vote.”
Or maybe it’s no coincidence that of all the examples you could have used, you chose especially for the Vitter thread that of Coleman, who has long been rumored to be into kinky sex and to have an “open marriage” with his actress-wife. To use one of your favorite expressions, “LOL.”

You are the one who brought it up. I was countering your BS stepfather example that had zero relation to the debate. But then again that’s normal for you to interject irrelevant garbage in a lame attempt to try and debate. You aren’t good at it.

Funny you should yet again bring up another rumor. I don’t think this is coincidence anymore. It’s more like norm for you. LOL!

BTW, when are you actually going to address my comment with a decent response that is relevant?

    No, Tracy-chickenhawk,
Another troll brought up Byrd and you also accused the NAACP of being a racist organization. The fact that my Caucasian Republican, late stepfather belonged to the NAACP was relevant in countering your assertion, little boy, who won’t even stand up for his wife’s reputation.

Why should I bother addressing you at all, Tracy Chickenhawk–a guy who throws out endless insults, thinks only he knows what is relevant, and has a penchant for appearing days later on an almost dead-thread? Didn’t you call me a “nat”(SIC) not worth debating or something like that on another thread? Actually, almost every poster here thinks you’re an annoyance–a gnat, and you haven’t won any debates here.
I’ve already spent far too much time on you, little boy. I have better things to do this week.

“The fact that my Caucasian Republican, late stepfather belonged to the NAACP was relevant in countering your assertion….”

My assertion that the NAACP was a racist organization was that based on the fact, AGAIN, that if it were divulged that say Norm Colman(SIC) senator from Minnesota, was a former KKK member, the NAACP wouldn’t give him that time of day much less let him become a member of the NAACP.
It’s a double standard for them. The fact that your step father was a member is irrelevant to our discussion because he was never a congressman or of any importance in U.S. congressional politics.

Hey,I actually had work to do and was out of town on business in Mesa, AZ. You on the other hand seems like you were WAITING for me to post a response. Talk about no life! LOL!

“Actually, almost every poster here thinks you’re an annoyance–a gnat, and you haven’t won any debates here.”

Whatever! You claimed that all those who didn’t serve in WW2 couldn’t for a variety of reasons then said later you were aware that there were chickenhawks during WW2. Then You falsely accused me of defending the Bush daughters here:

“…when you constantly defend the Bush brats and their various cousins for not setting a fine example by joining Dumbya’s “noble cause.””

….but we both know that you lied or weren’t paying attention. Which is it?

“I’ve already spent far too much time on you, little boy. I have better things to do this week.”

Yeah right! Your word ain’t worth shit little girl.

I admit the rumors about Norm Coleman (whose name you still can’t spell, though you were the first to mention him) are just that: rumors. But I do have good sources in both Hollywood and Minnesota.
As for Jeff Gannon, the logs exist of the gay prostitute’s many visits to the WH. These are not rumors, and until someone comes up with a good explanation of why a hooker who was still advertising his services on the Internet was visiting the WH even when there were no press conferences scheduled I have every right to surmise that the reasons were not innocent, little boy. You may as well stop acting like Little Lord Flaunteroy, because considering the foul (or “fowl” in your spelling) language you frequently use, we all know that you are not.
As for rumors, you have been supporting though, of course, not participating, in a war based on rumors and lies about WMD, little chickenhawk twit.
I sometimes look back at old threads out of curiosity. There are some that I haven’t bothered to look any further because I know it will just end with more of your misspelled bile and drivel.
Finally, my word certainly isn’t worth sh.t, as you claim, because it is in fact worth a lot. Yours is worth less than a pot of merde, little chickenhawk twit.

  299. Lora says:

Final words for you, Tracy Chickenhawk,
I’m sure it gives you great pleasure to call a woman who is both older and obviously better educated than you “little girl.” We all know that you wouldn’t have the nerve to call one of the male posters–particularly one of the veterans– “little boy.” Your insecurity and cowardliness show through, silly, little chickenhawk twit. You’re about as pathetic as they come.

“I admit the rumors about Norm Coleman…”

You admit something? No way! I am impressed.

“But I do have good sources in both Hollywood and Minnesota.”

And those “good” sources would be?

“I have every right to surmise that the reasons were not innocent…”

If you still wish to continue to wallow in the tabloid world of rumors, speculation, and innuendo then…oh well.

“You may as well stop acting like Little Lord Flaunteroy…”

I don’t wish to be or intend to. Bad example.

    Little Lord Fauntleroy…typo?

“….in a war based on rumors and lies about WMD”

The intelligence was wrong. What specific “lies” are you referring to?

“…because it is in fact worth a lot.”

How do you figure? You just said in your last post that you had better things to do this week. Your word is worth less than shit or “merde”, which ever you prefer.

“I’m sure it gives you great pleasure to call a woman who is both older and obviously better educated than you “little girl.””

You might be older (that’s obvious) but you absolutely aren’t better educated. Are you trying to be funny?

“We all know that you wouldn’t have the nerve to call one of the male posters–particularly one of the veterans– “little boy.””

I have already called out Wayne for his comment about my wife. He is obviously a wimp because he never responded.

Your insecurity and cowardliness show through, silly, little chickenhawk twit.”

I am the ONLY one in this blog who has ever gave someone a time and place to have it out. Out of the three I have Ryan Neat, Bartlebee, and Wayne, NONE of them have accepted my offer.

“You’re about as pathetic as they come.”

And you are the littlest girl, in every sense of the word, I have ever had the pleasure of laughing at.
