Bush was described as “folksy, adamant and mildly profane” when he interrupted the meeting. “It was stunning. We couldn’t believe he came in,” said one aide in attendance. “We kept looking at each other, amazed he came in,” said another.

Just five days ago, Bush said, “There is a perception in the coverage that al Qaeda may be as strong today as they were prior to September 11. That’s just simply not the case.”

Since the NIE stating just the opposite was published and released yesterday, it is out of the realm of possibility that Bush hadn’t read it or been told about its findings. So, it looks like Bush was lying to the American people about the most important issue facing our nation. I wonder if any of these poor, stunned excuses for journalists asked him about this. 20WordsorLess, can you explain why Bush would lie to us about this important issue?

  20. TripMaster Monkey Says:

What a damned joke. Chimpy needs to crash a meeting he wasn’t invited to try to browbeat his increasingly conscious party members back into meek submission.

What’s next, Chimpy? Gonna bug their conference rooms, so you know when someone’s saying a sour word against you? Gonna start asking for resignations of GOP Congresspeople who dare to disagree with you? Gonna start arresting your detractors as “enemy combatants”?

Laugh at my hyperbole all you like, but remember: before 2000, if someone came back in time from this year and made dire predictions of how this Idiot son of Bush was going to hijack the government of the greatest nation in the world and set the planet on fire, we would have laughed at him, too.

Hate to let the boy Bush know this, BUT, al Qaeda is winning in Afghanistan and may very well be winning in Pakistan. Hummm… now what country has the “bomb” and missles to deliver the “bomb”? Could it be Pakistan? And Cheney said we had to worry about Saddam creating a mushroom cloud.

  25. DM Says:

Potential reasons for interrupting the meeting:

    - Doesn’t trust Tony Snow to do his job any more than we do

    - His ears were ringing and he thought they were talking about him behind his back

    - Thought it was the door to the bathroom, and pretended to have something to say other than “oops.”

    - Just really in a mood to yell at someone

    - Wanted to use the break in decorum to emphasize to GOP leaders that they have become complacent in their constricted lines of thought and they should ‘work outside the frame’ when using tactics to counter the growing dissent

    - Drunk

  26. Jackie Says:

Bush has his orders and there’s nothing he can do about it. The speech was for his fellow Republicans and the up coming votes. He is telling them they must vote to keep the money coming and keep the troops in Iraq or he’s got hell to pay. As for the American people he could care less about them. As he told American move on get over it, what Americans wont or think means nothing to him. More money is needed to pay off the Churches for Vitter and other GOP leaders who names are about to be released. Fingers Foley needs money for his lawyers and alot of hush money is needed. It takes alot of money to keep a crime going so Bush is just letting his GOP friends know not to listen to the American people.

    Re: Comment by 20wordsor less — July 17, 2007 @ 2:54 pm

I think you may be confused about the meaning of the word “impeachment” — you seem to think one needs indictments and convictions in order to impeach.

An impeachment IS an indictment — of an elected (or appointed, in the case of — say — a Supreme Court justice) official by Congress. You don’t get an indictment before you can impeach — that makes no sense.

First comes impeachment — THEN the case is turned over to the Senate for trial — with the Supreme Court presiding. Conviction comes if at least two thirds of the Senate finds the defendant guilty following the trial.

When you ask “Where are the indictments? Where are the convictions?” — you make your ignorance well known.

If you are looking for evidence to impeach, a fair amount has already been racked up. Cheney’s abuse of power, contempt of Congress for both Bush and Cheney, lying and misleading the public to get us into war, commuting Libby’s sentence in an obvious quid pro quo deal, running secret torture chambers, outing a covert CIA agent as a retaliation move, using U.S. Attorneys to influence and challenge elections (and firing them when they don’t comply) — the list goes on and on.

Abuse of power is much, much more than just a Dem talking point here. It’s what’s really going on.

Another lame civics lesson: IMPEACHMENT is an indictment. There is plenty of reason to suspect Bush and Cheney, and absolutely of course Gonzales, of impeachable offenses. It’s a matter of getting around the overuse of executive privilege. If Congress (or the judiciary committee) decides there is enough evidence to support a trial, somebody will be impeached. Then they’ll have a trial in the Houe and either convict or not. IMPEACH does not mean “remove from office.”

    Agreed. Let’s start the trials!
Let’s start with Cheney; a simple video (by Glenn Greenwald, I think, it’s on youtube) lays out the case against Cheney. Let me cut to the chase. He consistently Lied, about the capabilities and intent of a sovereign nation in order to coerce the Senate, House, and American people to support a pre-determined war. The lies included statements that Iraq, without a doubt, had fully realized WMD programs, and were determined to use these weapons either directly against the U.S. (or Israel). He also lied about meetings between Iraqi intelligence and Al qaeda.
We all know about his recent declarations that he is free of any restraint from any branch of government, as is the President. Their assertions that they need not comply with the Constitution, or even their own executive orders, are all we really need to impeach. Bush openly admitted he had violated the FISA laws, and would continue to do so.
Maybe you Businistas are okay with that. Those of us who want to see the rule of, law, and the constitution upheld, demand the accountability provided for in the Constitution. Just like some of you insisted we do with the previous President; that is, those of you old enough. It’s ironic that some of Bush’s most vocal supporters here are not old enough to have any kind of historical perspective over the last twenty years, yet they pontificate and bloviate, as teenagers are wont to do, because they think they have the answers.
I think they may suffer from ‘alien hand syndrome’ which causes them to type without control or volition. Like automatic writing, except no intelligence is guiding the hand.

A Swiss-led research team has discovered the cause of alien hand syndrome — a rare neurological disorder that causes involuntary hand movements.

People suffering the disorder might sometimes reach for objects and manipulate them without wanting to do so, even to the point of having to use their healthy hand to restrain the alien hand.

Again, an excellent example of nothing to say, and really not a person who wants to hear it. This is what passes for ‘truth’ and intelligent debate in their world. They do not justify a response as the only thing they hope to accomplish is to get a rise out of someone, and too many people take the bait. I understand the frustration of having done enough reading to have a broad understanding of the issues and what is really at stake. This is not a game, the neo cons running our government view the masses, correctly so I might add, as incapable of handling the truth. If they told the truth, they would have said; ‘Look, Iraq has a lot of oil, we are oil people, and our economic and strategic security, in our view, depends on us using the might of the American military to secure those oil assets. That is what is in the PNAC manifesto. But who among you wants to pour over those tedious and boring documents? But they convinced many to support their ends. To our detriment
It is easier to tell, and re-tell (to catapult the propaganda)big lies and scare people into doing what these guys believe is in their best interest.
In fact, these thugs have been very effective, using their media mouthpieces like Limbaugh, to get Americans to vote against their own best interests. Like with the war, or the Inheritance (Paris Hilton) tax, or any number of issues that benefit the corporatocracy but not the American people. And they have effectively used this propaganda to divide the American people and blind them to the fact that we are committing suicide by following these guys over the cliff.
You want to follow that burning Bush, go ahead. But you 20 somethings want to fight the good fight behind a monitor and keyboard, when if you truly believed, and were not here just to agitate, you would enlist, and put action behind your jingoistic rhetoric.
Now go do some reading, and come back when you can formulate
an intelligent argument, besides Clinton did it, and Bush is great. Save that for your myspace page.
