Appearing on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show yesterday, conservative pundit Robert Novak claimed that “women, particularly,” are making our current political discourse more “vicious”:
Hugh Hewitt: “The political dialogue, public and private, becomes more rancorous. The dissenters, particularly the Negro, poor and the war protesters turn to direct action, and most uncivil disobedience. What this adds up to is nothing less than a rejection of conventional forms of political action.” It goes on. Do you see the same thing playing out again now, Robert Novak?
Novak: I hate to say it, but I think the hatred toward George W. Bush is just mad. I listen to, sometimes in the car radio, on talk shows, and the venom that comes out of the mouths of some of these women, particularly, I’m not trying to be sexist, but they’re so vicious toward him. And I don’t think that really contributes. And also, the bloggers, I don’t read the bloggers very much, but it is really, it’s really vicious.
Did he actually say “negro”? What year is it?!

July 17th, 2007 at 2:05 pmVicious because they say bad things about king george, huh? Vicious because they want congress oversight, huh? Vicious because they want their country back, huh? Why do women hate america?
July 17th, 2007 at 2:06 pmDid he just say Negro?
July 17th, 2007 at 2:07 pmLOL, wut?
If a woman isn’t saying OH DADDY to this clown, she’s bein vicious. I guess I can proudly be called vicious, then! ;-)
July 17th, 2007 at 2:08 pm“the venom that comes out of the mouths of some of these women, particularly, I’m not trying to be sexist, but they’re so vicious”
he must be reading Ann Coulter…

July 17th, 2007 at 2:08 pmThese two are an evil incarnation of Laurel and Hardy – “another fine mess” indeed. Fight venom with venom.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:09 pmAnd also, the bloggers, I don’t read the bloggers very much, but it is really, it’s really vicious.
“And also, the bloggers, I don’t really know what I’m talking about, but I want them to be vicious so that I’ll look civilized by comparison.
It’s the only way I can move among decent society and get close enough to pure young virgins so that I can fulfill my insatiable bloodlust before sunrise each night.”
July 17th, 2007 at 2:09 pmNegro? Are you @#$%ing kidding? I’m surprised he managed not to call the offending women “dames.”
July 17th, 2007 at 2:09 pmNo doubt traitor Novak believes that Ann Coulter isn’t venomous.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:10 pmIf women have more hatred towards Bush, it just proves that they are indeed the smarter sex.

July 17th, 2007 at 2:11 pmmost of what i am reading from the liberals, the progressives, and even the sane right, is intense concern for what’s happening to our country… as usual, novak is astoundingly out of touch… the poor man can’t distinguish between passionate patriotism and love of country and vicious hatefulness… he needs to read ann coulter and michelle malkin or the email that markos posted in response to o’reilly’s broadside against daily kos if he wants to understand hatred and viciousness…
And, yes, I DO take it personally
July 17th, 2007 at 2:12 pmNegro? Are you @#$%ing kidding? I’m surprised he managed not to call the offending women “dames.â€

At least he’s not referring to “the coloreds.” At least, not in public. Who is this loser, anyway?
July 17th, 2007 at 2:13 pmThis out of the mouth of the villain who helped start an illegal, immoral, unjust war, killing and maiming thousands of people. When did this putrid pile of dog waste develop sensitivity? He hasn’t begun to hear how angry we can be. Four letter words don’t begin to tell the depths of contempt I have for this “man.”
July 17th, 2007 at 2:14 pmThe fool should know that most women will have a negative reaction to being raped, especially when it has continued unabatedly for over 5 1/2 years. Add to that the murder of their sons and daughters, the theft of their jobs and retirement, and the desecration of the very Constitution that supposedly gives them protection from the above abuses. All women should be demanding the incarceration of the entire bushco, not just King George the Dumb.

July 17th, 2007 at 2:18 pmThey just love pitching their distain for women back and forth infront of the camera to solidify their inherent need of male control.
Get a life chickenhawk!
You take away a woman’s child (dead troops), and you are gonna have a real problem Novak. You’d think he would know this with all his years of investigating things.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:19 pmTo be fair to Hewitt, I think he is reading from an article or a book. Maybe TP can verify this, but the speech marks after “political action”, and the way the piece reads, I think Hewitt is quoting from something.
But that’s about as much leeway as I would give Hewitt. The article seems to be a sort of segueway into allowing Novak to make some stupid whine about the status quo.
As for Novak, apart from his dire need for a bj, his complaint about bloggers boils down to a sad resistance to the evolution of media. You see, blogging – and all it is is publishing one’s opinion – means that Novak has direct exposure to American media consumerism. And he like the pathetic douche of human being he is, he cannot take criticism.
Such a little weanie, such a waste of oxygen.

July 17th, 2007 at 2:25 pmSuch a little man with so much to make up for. George Bush has sunk so low that KKKarl Rove leak of the day to his go to guy is that Shrub’s opponents are “hysterical”, in the Freudian sense of womanly, desperate and “mad”. As usual for KKKarl and Novakula, they pretend to paint their opponents while staring into the mirror.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:26 pmWhat a great laugh (picking herself up off the floor)
July 17th, 2007 at 2:27 pmThe “Negro” comment was from a column that Bob Novak wrote in 1963. Here’s the full comment:
Now on Page 163, you quote from a column that you wrote after the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, and I’ll quote it here. “As political reporters, we have noticed the change insidiously picking up momentum across the country, the passion of political hatred against a Lyndon Johnson or a Bobby Kennedy passes old bounds. The political dialogue, public and private, becomes more rancorous. The dissenters, particularly the Negro, poor and the war protesters turn to direct action, and most uncivil disobedience. What this adds up to is nothing less than a rejection of conventional forms of political action.†It goes on. Do you see the same thing playing out again now, Robert Novak?
July 17th, 2007 at 2:28 pmBlogosphere: “Bobby is a poo poo head. He has ca-ca for brains. He smells and he has cooties…President Bush too, he eats ca-ca. Ha ha ha!”
Bobby: Waa waa they call people names!
Poor Little Bobby Novak and Bush – destroying our country and killing people good but getting called names by the mean old bloggers because they do so and then lie about it … oh so bad
Go sit in the corner you mean bloggers!
July 17th, 2007 at 2:28 pmOh, crap, not 1963, page 163. Sorry for the stupid error. Still in the 60s, though.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:29 pmand outing a CIF operative–that’s ok. there’s no venom in that.
wasn’t there just a post about Novak’s “poisonous pen.” i suppose he’d no venom when he sees it.
(btw, TP, this surely gets the comments going but really, is what Novak says important or newsworthy on any level? that pursed lipped little bagger has almost become a caricature of himself.)

July 17th, 2007 at 2:29 pmIt gets better. Note this comment from Hugh:
You know, I’ve had a lot of journalists, left, right and center on here. Joe Klein has made the same complaint. Many people do. And I tend to believe that’s more lefty than center-right by a lot, Robert Novak. And I don’t know if you read the right blogs like Powerline Blog or Instapundit or mine, but I think the level of discourse there is quite high, although some of the nutter commenters are nutty, again. It’s a vitriol that’s, I think, overwhelmingly weighted on the left. I don’t know if you agree or disagree with that.
RN: I tend to agree with that.

July 17th, 2007 at 2:30 pmGee, I didn’t know venom directed towards Bush could be categorized as gonad-specific.
Just about everyone now is spewing venom towards Bush regardless of what make and model of your gonads.

July 17th, 2007 at 2:31 pmHave fun now, Bob, ’cause the slide’s being greased for your ride to the margins. My question is this: you obviously dislike women, have little tolerance for the poor, and openly hate anyone left of yourself (that would be about three-quarters of the voting populace)–where does Jon Stewart stand on your hate-scale, in that case?
Once again, Bob, the time of the inmates (you, Kristol, Broder, Brooks, Klein, et al) ruling the asylum is running down. So you go ahead and make hay, and burn all your bridges.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:31 pmI’m inclined to believe that this is part of a larger backlash against women, as a direct result of HRC’s candidacy. In addition to the usual personal attacks on Clinton as being shrill or abrasive, there will be a wider series of attacks on women in positions of power. We’ve already seen it directed at Pelosi, starting before she even stepped into the Speaker role. The ugly old white men are terrified that they’re losing their grip on power in this country and that the coloreds and the broads are going to wrestle that power away from them.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:31 pmNote to self: The submissive Novakula will receive severe discipline at his next session.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:32 pmWhy do women hate our country?
July 17th, 2007 at 2:32 pm“I’m not trying to be sexist…but I will anyway”.

July 17th, 2007 at 2:37 pmjust wait till the roving gangs of lesbians with pink pistols come after ya, bobby…..
July 17th, 2007 at 2:37 pmNovak showing how he and his White House friends feel toward the African Americans fighting in Iraq/Afghan. Funny how Novak attacks with the 1900 word Negro. As for his comments about women attacking Bush that might be more about Hillary then Bush. Men have even worse words for Bush. Novak will be looking for employment once the Fox News is finished supporting the criminal White House team. Let’s hope Novak has a visa to England or Canada if not he will be part of the HMO program. Does he wear diapers it sure looks like it.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:39 pmOK — it took my post that time. Let’s try this again.
I think I should feel complimented by Novak referring to me (and other women) as “venomous”. After all, I have found that whenever a conservative male refers to a woman as venomous, b!tchy, shrill or as a harridan or a harpy, they usually mean that they can’t cope with intelligent women who voice opinions. They can only deal with women who shut up, bat their eyes, and act deferential to men.
What really cracks me up is that Novak seems to be genuinely mystified that people are angry with our current presidential administration. Get a clue, Bob! Oh — and you might notice that MEN are just as ticked off.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:40 pm“Funny how Novak attacks with the 1900 word Negro”
Again, this was from a column he wrote forty years ago.
July 17th, 2007 at 2:42 pmIn his next installment, Bob will instruct men on the various tehcniques of “home correction”.

July 17th, 2007 at 2:49 pmVicious? You’d better believe it. I truly would not walk across the street to see that man, even though it would be great to tell him just what I think of him…however, his flunkies would have me out the door in about two seconds.

July 17th, 2007 at 2:52 pmRUCerious, there is scripture where Jesus is resurrected and appears before…..wait for it…..wait….women! That’s right. They are the first ones Jesus reveals himself to. July 17th, 2007 at 3:00 pmYour right Novak didn’t say it but didn’t correct it. I just feel bad for the African American soldiers putting their lives on the line for Americans that think so little of them. Now I already emailed the posting but I will email your comment to explain that Novak is only talking about Women. I’m sure the African American woman and woman of all races in Iraq will understand just what Novak thinks of the female support of this so called war.
His interesting choice of words are a tell. He sees women as snakes. A vicious, often thought of as slimy, lowly (low to the earth), sneaky and frightening creature, that everyone should fear.
And what are the people of this country taught these days to do to things they fear, yet even still don’t understand? Destroy them.
July 17th, 2007 at 3:00 pmRetarded. Stoned. Bullfrog.

I don’t know about other women, but I hate him for what he’s done to my country – it wasn’t personal for a long time, but now that I see how he is attempting to subvert the Constitution, Congress and any other attempts to rein in his insane policies, it is. For about 18 months now I have been praying that when he flames out that it will be so spectacular that the public will wake up and take back our country.

This is what happens when you don’t read your only holy book, Daryll (just like the parts about seafood you conveniently ignore).
Try Romans 16:7
1 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:
2 That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.
3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:
4 Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
5 Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.
6 Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us.
7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellow-prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.
Do a little reading and learn how later church scholars tried to twist Paul’s words to make it sound like Junia was a man, because like you they couldn’t stand the notion of a woman being that important a member of the early church.
Apostle, Daryll. Woman, Daryll.

Paul and Barnabas were designated by Christ as disciples. Junias was considered an apostle, but not a disciple. She taught, but did not preach. During the last supper Jesus invited all of disciples. There were only 12. and Junias or anyone else was not included.
July 17th, 2007 at 4:25 pmIsn’t this Robert Low Hack fellow the same one who first published that Valerie Plame article? The article that resulted in outing a covert CIA operative? The one who ruined her career? And that article of his wasn’t “vicious?” And how come the Low Hack got some slack and didn’t end up prosecuted. Cut me a break!
July 17th, 2007 at 4:43 pmMaybe Bob needs to stop reading The National Enquirer when it’s covering Laura’s plans to divorce Dubya. The quotes appearing in that magazine certainly can be pretty vicious (and quite catty when she mentions Condi).
July 17th, 2007 at 4:45 pmHey, Bob–if you really mattered, I’m sure you could get you some of that. Basically, what you’re saying is that you’ve not seen the level of disgust, shame, and disrespect for a holder of the office of the President in your bottom-feeding lifetime.
July 17th, 2007 at 4:57 pmHow sad that in the early 21st Century we’re still sitting around arguing about the arcane details of…
“Foolish rules of ancient date,
July 17th, 2007 at 4:58 pmDesigned to make you all feel great
As you bend, fold and mutilate
Those unbelievers in the neighboring state…”
I’ve said it before, but these douche nozzles are worse then professional wrestler. Breaking the rules right and left, calling the other side sore losers when they win while dancing their obnoxious victory jig, and then whining about how nobody’s being fair to them and their buddies when their ass is up against the wall.
Reap what you sow, ass necks.

What would Frank Zappa say about the current cabal of criminals?
July 17th, 2007 at 5:02 pmDaryll, just because women aren’t specifically referenced by name as attending the Last Supper, that doesn’t mean there weren’t any women in attendance. (After all, Cain “found” a “wife” yet, according to Genesis, only three people were named at that time–Adam, Eve and Cain; Abel was dead and Seth hadn’t been born yet and Yahweh didn’t seem to have provided any daughters for Eve. Yet, Cain somehow got a wife. Also, please explain why Cain had to be protected from OTHERS if Adam and Eve were the parents of humanity. As it’s your “holy book” that’s rife with errors and contradictions, it’s up to you to explain and/or defend these “little” flaws.)
July 17th, 2007 at 5:08 pmDaryll,
apostle n. Apostle One of a group made up especially of the 12 disciples chosen by Jesus to preach the gospel.
http://www.answers.com/topic/apostle
Why are they referred to as “The Twelve Apostles” or “The Twelve Disciples” rather than just “The Apostles” or “The Disciples”? Because they were a subset of the larger group. Women were STRONG growers of the early Christian church (Phoebe, for a prime example).
Besides, Daryll, if we take your criteria to its logical extreme then there cannot be any African American, Korean, Anglo Saxon church leaders because Jesus did not commission anyone from these groups.
July 17th, 2007 at 5:21 pmNovak seems on quite the self destructive path. perhaps karma has finally caught up with him.
too bad, so sad … next.
July 17th, 2007 at 5:22 pmThere is a reason why there is a scripture in existence that says women should be silent in the church (a scripture against women preachers).

Many scholars say that the reason woman were asked to be silent in the church is because Jesus had liberated them and they were becoming so vocal with their newly-found ability to speak passionately about their beliefs that they were interrupting services. Not to stop them from preaching.

July 17th, 2007 at 5:26 pmbewilderbeast: “What would Frank Zappa say about the current cabal of criminals?”
I’m pretty sure he’d devote an entire double-album to them. I’m very sorry he isn’t around to do that. We’ll just have to use what we’ve got already…
The mainstream media’s theme:
“I may be vile and pernicious,
July 17th, 2007 at 5:30 pmBut, you can’t look away…”
Women have had a bullshit radar still time immemorial; it is genetic. Every man knows that he can’t get away with a lie to his mother/girlfriend/wife/teacher. Women now know this bastard Bush has been lying to them. They bought it for awhile until they realized he got away with it and lied us into War.. That really has made them mad. If the women turn against you, it’s over. OVER, GEORGIE BOY.
July 17th, 2007 at 5:48 pmre #121. Very well stated.
July 17th, 2007 at 5:53 pmI’ll second that. Here, here, Lescoeurs!
July 17th, 2007 at 6:12 pmVenomous, Mr. Novak says? And, why isn’t that man before a firing squad for publishing the name of a covert CIA operative? Treasonous.
We women are angry because we abhor war, killing, maiming, and lying. This White House administration is the proximate, direct cause of the deaths of hundreds of thousands – Iraqi, American, Afghan. The war is insane. What is the matter with people. The war was premised on lies and deceit, why does it continue? Why can’t congress get the gumption to throw out the entire lot of the politicians running this nation. Certainly, the congress isn’t running the country. They are incapable of passing simple, clear amendments.
July 17th, 2007 at 7:50 pmGuess he hasn’t listened to Laura Ingraham or Ann Coulter spew their venom has he? or is it just another case of IOKIYAR?
July 17th, 2007 at 7:51 pmNovak has no right to complain that others are vicious – and I challenge his words in the first place – but he is the self-named prince of darkness – he is the one with the poison pen.
Novak doesn’t read the blogs very much because he fears the fury of the mob, just as do all self described aristocrats. Novak is losing his grip and he seems to know it.

Surely ther must be a scripture in existence that also warns against taking the advice of stone idiots too.
July 17th, 2007 at 9:29 pmBack in the ’40s there was a nice little movie about some American flyers down behind German lines. (Ronald Reagan was one of the leads.) The great Canadian actor Raymond Massey played a Nazi officer who gave a big speech about how the Nazis would win because they had the “iron fist.” Of course, this being one of our WW II films, the Americans soon knocked out the Nazi officer and escaped. One flyer commented: “The iron fist had a glass jaw.”
That’s the wingnuts: The iron fist has a glass jaw.
July 17th, 2007 at 10:11 pmWomen have a lot of experience sizing up jerks. Bush fits the jerk mode. ‘Nuff said.
