I thought he was down to 19% last year.

  2. unbelievable Says:

I’m beginning to think that Gallup only polls rich Republicans….

  3. The republic of Stupidity Says:

I can’t believe they found 30% who thought he was doing a good job. Did Lynn vote more than once?

  4. upside00 Says:

1 out of 3 people who are still afraid of getting shot in the face may explain the continued popularity.

  5. JG Says:

The only Poll I am interested in is the poll on the number of Americans who favor his immediate impeachment!

  6. Fan_of_Man Says:

30%!? yo, that is WAY WRONG, it is MUCH LOWER!

    Sheep.

  8. spit take Says:

    Well, this blows my mind.

How could there be that many people who approve of Darth Cheney?

If this is truly a historic low for this poll, does that mean that more than 30% viewed The Dick favorably after he blew a hole in an old man’s face while hunting reatrded birds, drunk?

  14. crimedog Says:

Cheney’s ratings are higher than the democrat congress

  15. Texas Democrat Says:

Enough of the ratings already, this administration doesn’t care, actually quite to the contrary I think that they think in their deluded minds the more Americans that disapprove of the job they are doing the more on track they are.

    Give it a rest.

  29. veritas Says:

Amazing that the rating is this high! Guess we now know the precise percentage of war profiteers, Big Oil money people, Big Pharma, Big Insurance. They would have to be the only ones supporting this Veep-thug.

Perhaps the lower tiers of the business community are finally waking up to the fact that Cheney has been the power behind the throne all along, and are throwing a little more support his way.
Either that or it’s the beer swilling shotgun toting crowd who think George is a wuss cause all he does is ride mountain bikes and cut brush.

Anyone remember what talking points the trolls clung to in order to distract from the pitiful approval ratings of the Executive Branch (and The Dick Cheney) back when Republicans controlled the majority in both houses and had approval ratings just as anemic?

Oh, yeah, that’s right — back then it was “polls don’t matter”.

  45. upside00 Says:

Lone Voice - Yea, and he says, “I like your accent, lil’ Tony, are you from Narnia?”

We need to make sure these play from now til the 08 elections. Then I will miss them, for sure!

  46. The Lone Voice of Reason Says:

Spit take you are absolutly right, I seen a study on that, people equate Bush and Cheney with the congressional approval ( don’t ask for a link trolls, I work for no one ) , I’ve said before, these same people do know that Bush and his merry pranksters are republicans, and they also know what R and D means when they go to the polls, and that’s all they feel they need to know. The last elections reflected that and so will the next.

  47. spit take Says:

It’s also interesting that his approval rating is now higher than
    G. Dubious the President.

    Comment by Raven — July 18, 2007 @ 1:42 pm

I don’t think that’s accurate, Raven. The article accompanying the poll report says that The Dick Cheney consistently polls lower than Bush. So this particular poll must have Bush in the low 30s, which is I believe also a historic low for this polling organization, but higher than most other national polls.

Everybody’s low, but the Dems poll higher than the Repubs.

  53. WaltinTexas Says:

I think the low approval ratings for congress are due to the disapproval given by the clueless minority that still support Bush/Cheney just because the Democrat’s are now in control. And the majority of the rest of us still disapproving due to the continued actions of corrupt, fascist, obstructionists like McConnell, Inhofe, Stevens, etc. You have both sides disapproving- one based on actions and facts of the past few months/years, the other side disapproving because Rush said so.

  54. Krazny Says:

    Comment by Happy Guy — July 18, 2007 @ 1:51 pm

Ah, I knew one of the trolls would not be able to resist lying about the Congressional approval ratings.

In fact, the 14% that Happy Guy now trumpets (used to be michael bringing thsi particular lie, then I forget who before that) is NOT an “approval rating”. It is the number of people who said they had “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in Congress in a poll taken three weeks ago by Gallup.

That same week, Gallup released a poll that said that the APPROVAL RATING for Congress was 24%.

Happy Guy can’t even tell the truth when the truth favors his point. Oy.

  57. Spudge_Boy Says:

The low Congressional approval rating is because most people don’t know the difference between the House and the Senate, let alone who serves in what party in what chamber. They are just pissed that Congress hasn’t ended this war.

That is all, nothing more, nothing less. But the trolls need something to grasp at.

  58. The Lone Voice of Reason Says:

Those WWE watching, shot gun toting ( I have a Mosin Nagant and XD 9 ), beer swillin’, ( hey wait a minute, well at least I prefer micro-brew ) piss pots practicly tear up when Bush is criticised, they don’t want to believe he’s really just a yuppy from kenabunkport.

  59. J Lewd Says:

Actually, the poll is a bit misleading. The question posed to respondents was “Do you approve of Vice President Dick Cheney sacrificing a 10-year-old Iraqi child to Moloch to aid Halliburton in their appropriation of Iraqi oil.” So, 30% seems about right, once you know the truth.

  60. spit take Says:

    Thanks, missmolly.

I know the trolls won’t click on the links, so here’s what missmolly was talking about:

    Democrats in Congress: 31% approval

    Republicans in Congress: 21% approval

Ouch. That’s got to sting, Happy Guy. Not so happy now, are ya, chief?

  61. Raven Says:

Agreed, thanks, I was looking at the overall average of popularity polls, and I will allow I’ve seen the Dickster to range from 18 to 29 percent approval.

What all seems to wash out is that at best a third of this country believes the lies and participates in the corruption, and/or enables the lies and corruption.

  66. Ben Dover Says:

This is an upswing of about 10 points from the last survey of deadeye’s approvail. I figured he’d be well into the single digits by now.

  67. Jay Randal Says:

This poll is bogus, because Cheney’s approval is down below 20% like the Congress.

  68. DM Says:

#63 ~ Congress has a horrid approval rate, correct. People are pissed off at its performance. When polled individually, the Democratic members fare far better than the Republicans, who are actively blocking any congressional progress.

Republicans are willing to destroy America to win elections.

  69. RUCerious Says:

I find the poll number incredible, incredulous, unbelievable and maybe just facking wrong.
How can 3 out of 10 people approve of this demonic plague upon our nation?

  70. Egreggious Says:

This poll does seem to be a fluke.

What do you suppose accounts for the uptick?

I wonder if it’s all those

    CHENEY 2008!

    posts that did it.

  71. Katie Says:

This is the lowest he has been in the Gallup poll. Here’s a link to a CBS poll that found his approval at 19%:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/ stories/ 2005/ 11/ 02/ opinion/ polls/ main1005252_page2.shtml

Even if it is 30%, the more important number is the 54% who want to see Cheney impeached.

And, please ignore the trolls. Playing with them only makes them come back for more. If you truly are interested in discourse, then just ignore the jerks. All they have to add is their talking points and we’ve all heard them before.

  72. Buck Fush Says:

How in the world could this evil bastard be above 20%? This is just wrong….they must have polled corporatations.

Butt Slush, CT_V1’s slurpy drink of choice.

  73. missmolly Says:

I suspect that there will always be a group of loyal supporters for Bush and Cheney — not so much because they know what Bushney is doing and support it (although there are a few of those who directly benefit from the corruption), but because they aren’t paying attention and are operating purely on party loyalty.

I just took a little informal poll of my co-workers (10 of them), many of them moderate to conservative.

Most condemned the war in Iraq and believed we should either get out now or at least start withdrawing our troops. However, only two of them knew about the filibuster in the Senate last night, and neither of those knew what it was about. Nor did they particularly care.

Nobody I polled knew about the U.S. Attorney firings.

Seven knew about the conviction of, and the subsequent sentence commutation of Scooter Libby. Only one of the seven felt it was an important issue (and that person felt that Bush was completely within his powers and the Dems were being poor sports).

I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said “If you’re not outraged, you haven’t been paying attention”. I suspect there is a large segment of the population who are not now, and probably won’t ever be paying attention. The portion of those who are Republican loyalists will probably keep Bush and Cheney’s approval figures above 20% for the duration.

  74. spit take Says:

Katie, I think the TP community is doing an admirable job of ignoring the most offensive trolls so far. Egreggious did get in a good dig in post #72, but I can’t fault him for that; it was a great shot.

I responded to Happy Guy simply to correct (once again) an all-too-common lie they lean on. And yes, by this time, it IS a lie, not a misconception. But I’m trying to behave and ignore the trolls. Actually, the most obnoxious troll — the one who name-jacked a fallen soldier and accused his comrade of lying about his service? — that incident has actually helped me to ignore them, making clear how far beneath contempt some of them are.

  75. Zimzone Says:

Playing with a Troll is like playing with yourself.

I hope with all the ROTFL that our troll friends are wearing their helmets. They can’t afford anymore brain damage. Imagine how incoherent their posts might become then!

  77. Pat Says:

These chimpy/shooter leg humpers keep trying to compare the WH polls with polls of the congress. The reason the congress is unpopular with the American people is because everyone is pissed at them for not impeaching the current rethugs “occupying” the WH.

I’d wager if impeachment of these two criminal liars took place…the approval rating of the congress would skyrocket!

  78. Perry Logan Says:

If there was ever a poll that smelt like fish, it;s that low rating of Congress. I’m quite sure there’s neocon money behind that one.

  79. Gus Smith Says:

Exactly what are Americans using as criteria to evaluate Cheney? We need to admit that we have no idea what he does day to day but that many administration misdeeds emanate from his office. So somewhere between the general obliviousness and condoning of illegal activities there are 30% of Americans who think Cheney is doing a good job. What a measure of the second-in-command.

  80. Bernard Quatermass Says:

Many people who read Milton’s _Paradise Lost_ find Satan a much more interesting character than any of the “heavenly” ones.

More pertinently, I think, there are no doubt loads of people for whom a figure like Cheney fulfills some secret wish-dream to be as conniving and snarling and lousy (and powerful) a human being as possible. Let’s face it: many people are desperately unhappy, and some of them dream of being big-time criminals in “revenge.”

Not my cup of tea, but much of the human race is not my cup of tea.

And the trolls here are prime examples of those desperately unhappy dreamers. They are the ones who watch Roid-raged “pro” wrestlers who kill their sedated wife and child, who love the idea of more troops dying for no reason, for seeing how much BushCo can screw out of the American citizen and how they love to see the US Constitution and Rule of Law get shit on by chickenhawk NeoCons and then get the Cheney 1-fingered salute for being their pliable, ass-licking lackeys!

  82. hacker bob Says:

If Cheny has a 30% approval rating and should be impeached what are we to do to a Congress that has a 24% rating?

If low numbers equal impeachment, Harry and Nancy better watch out!

Bush and Cheny may have low numbers, but Congress has lower numbers. It seems that although most Americans want them impeached, they still trust approve of Bush/Cheny more than the Dems in Congress.

  83. Pat Says:

#84 Nobody on this thread suggested low poll numbers equal impeachment.

It is the (too many to list) criminal activites of your idols in the WH that begs impeachment.

    Comment by TR — July 18, 2007 @ 1:15 pm”

It looks like approval ratings are on the rise then! By November, 2008. they could be back over 50% Woohoo! Cheney 2008!

Sorry all you .001 percenters are so dissapointed, reality bites, don’t it?

It would appear regardless of the liberal, anti-Bush slant of today’s mainstream media, the folks know better. The reason mainstream media is losing audience by the droves is because people are starting to figure out that all the bad news just doesn’t square with the facts.

It’s tough to believe that things are so bad in the good ole’ USA when there is prosperity like never before. Everyone keeps wondering where the depression that ABC, SeeBS, NBC and CNN keeps talking about actually is, when things are so good in their town.

Record home ownership, record retail sales, and folks havn’t cut back on travel despite $3-plus gasoline. It’s not to hard for common-sense Americans to see that if the media has it so wrong about the economy, they probably have it wrong about Iraq, and everything else, as well. And Americans are turning off the mainstream media by the millions, and are going outside and living life.

I suggest a therapy for all of your unhappiness:

Do the same. Quit your unhealthy addiction to negativity.

Go outside, the sun is shining! It’s good for you!

Only Fox News from now on.

A healthy dose of Rush Limbaugh each and every day.

Read a little Norman Vincent Peale. Think positive thoughts!

Join the tens of millions who have broken free from the bonds of negativity and who are now living healthy, happy, prosperous lives!

And what’s more, knowledge IS power, and the truth can truly set you free!

You only get one go around, folks. It’s sad to see so many wasting their short time on this planet wallowing in the throes of hatred and self-loathing.

Far from being unhappy, us folks you people label as “trolls” (Hey, I thought you liberal/progressives types didn’t believe in labeling people!) are likely among the happiest people who post here. We remain positive and upbeat about life and our country.

I, for one, actually enjoy shining a little light of truth here at TP once in a while, as well as on some of the other negative, USA bashing blogs. It’s no matter to me whether you all accept that truth, or just call me names, for if only one person breaks the herd and decides to learn to think for themselves, then my job is done.

And if not? Hey, I’ve had a little fun by throwing a monkey-wrench into the works!

Now that the sun is coming up, and it’s going to be another great day, this “dangerous fascist” is going to leave you all to yourselves, and go outside and ride go-karts with my 10 year old son in the hills behind the house. Be back in a couple hours.
