I know I'm late commenting, but it shouldn't always be "preaching to the choir". When it comes to redeployment, impeachment, and such, it requires bipartison cooperation. That means the pressure has to placed on the Republicans. The few who broke rank have to be applauded and the names of those who have wavered have to be given the message again.

On a positive note, an unusually high number of Republican senators are up for reelection in 2008. It will be make or break for them. Get the names of those senators and start making them feel the heat. Let them know the Dems are shooting for 60 seats.

Harry Reid and the rest of the Democrats on the Hill (and the Republicans that support them on this) need to press the issue over and over again. This may not quite seem like it, but these are the kinds of public victories that help put pressure on the other side that they will eventually cave in to.

We anti-Iraq War supporters WANT to continue this kind of action, loudly and publicly. We need the opposition to be on the record day in and day out obstructing the will of the people. Placing the views they actually follow (via their votes, and their recorded words) in the public record is one of those things that, you'll notice, the opposition has done as much as possible to limit. As often as they can, they will push forward votes or attempt to pressure the majority leadership into moves that limit what is said in the public record. This is on purpose.

As the American people see the Republicans vote against the will of their various constituencies, those constituents will slowly, but inexorably make themselves heard. Eventually, the Republicans will have to cave in, or watch as up to 22 seats are lost in the Senate in 2008. If the Democrats lose none of their 6 contested seats, and gain 17 more seats (Lieberman does not count, sorry), then they have a veto-proof majority, and can whatever bills they want passed for quite some time, regardless of the opinion of the Executive. The Republicans are not (one would suppose) so stupid as to defy the will of the people for too much longer.

So, keep the pressure up, folks!

H.R. 1585 was a Levin-Reed Ammendment - right? Sen. Harry Reid is shown on the Senates website to have been the only Democrat that voted Nay. Is this correct?

"That’s an error, right?"

No, as explained several times above. Once Reid was certain that the cloture vote would fail, he switched his vote so that he could, as one of the Nay votes, bring it back again (and again and again). Had he not done this, he wouldn't be able to reinvoke the amendment to force another vote. This is standard procedure for Senate leadership and the various leaders have been doing this for decades.

Jeez... can't believe there is ANYONE stupid enough to support Thompson. Give me a break. Part of that 30% crowd that still supports this agenda of shame, I suppose. Sometimes it is hard to believe such dimwits exist, but then one surfaces. Why here? Go away! Go play with your little bully, bigoted, slow-s-p-e-a-k-i-n-g, friends. How can you still not get it? How screwed up does everything have to be before you finally get a clue? Can someone please get some puppets and try to explain it to these people in dick-and-jane ways, maybe?! Ugh.

Scumbags!! Wish the mainstream "media" would make noise about this. So frustrating! We need a bigger majority in Congress - in our government that is supposed to be "for the people." Once again, we were shown today that it is far from that. THE PEOPLE want to change course. Too bad we ain't drivin'

Hell yea it's theater. I'd bet both sides sit together drinking brandy and smoking Cuban cigars discussing how the vote will turn out in order to appease the populations superstitious belief in a two party system. I'm sure if there is ever any doubt they'll just call AIPAC for clarification.

US Government: Under new management. Same look, new direction. War.

and that’s 1 too many. please report offensive posts to the site administrator.

LMAO. And say what ?
See this 1 post here from one of your fans that the following 200 posts from the rest of your fans have no objection to....

You hoping that would look like a serious suggestion ?
Okay well let's pretend it was.

do what you when you see crazy people ranting on the city streets. keep on walking. or, again, you can report offensive posts to the site administrator.

Comment by pgw — July 18, 2007 @ 1:50 pm

Again, you're referring to an opinion expressed here, which nobody else here has a problem with, as coming from a lunatic.

There's a dozen posts here calling me a troll. Wouldn't a troll actually want stuff like this posted here ? Stuff that discredits all of you and the website you're posting on ?

In fact, FFS already you slow idiots, wouldn't the idea work a lot better the other way around ?

That instead of relying on trolls to report objectionable content on a website, sensible suggestion as it is, that you'd be better off having those generating the 200+ non-troll comments doing this ?
Crazy idea but you know it just might work.

Or it could work if of course this clear insult to all US servicemen was in fact objectionable to a single TP reader in the first place, not only worthy of criticism but of a request for censure.

Which as you've just seen, it wasn't.

and that’s 1 too many. please report offensive posts to the site administrator.

LMAO. And say what ?
See this 1 post here from one of your fans that the following 200 posts from the rest of your fans have no objection to….

You hoping that would look like a serious suggestion ?
Okay well let’s pretend it was.

do what you when you see crazy people ranting on the city streets. keep on walking. or, again, you can report offensive posts to the site administrator.

Again, you’re referring to an opinion expressed here, which nobody else here has a problem with, as coming from a lunatic.

There’s a dozen posts here calling me a troll. Wouldn’t a troll actually want stuff like this posted here ? Stuff that discredits all of you and the website you’re posting on ?

In fact, FFS already you slow idiots, wouldn’t the idea work a lot better the other way around ?

Oh, and Kilo? What's really hilarious about the Thompson story is that a) it brings publicity to the blogs in question, b) shows that they are being taken seriously, and c) shows that Thompson is something of a nutcase himself, since as you point out, putting that on a bumper sticker is not exactly a winning strategy.

"Who’s pretending."

You are, dear, but I'm loving it, so please keep it up.

"That link I gave you works."

Yes, dear, I know. Too bad I never pretended otherwise.

"The story is there along with all the commenters Thompson said you’d find on liberal blogs."

ROFL... I repeat: Only if you are a blind partisan with an agenda.

"What score hasn’t he been vindicated on ?"

It's called "comment trolling," for lack of a better term, dear, and it is always a sign of desperation, a sign that you cannot deal with the arguments and issues raised by the blog in question, but instead have to issue random ad hominem attacks. It's a classic logical fallacy dear; you should look into it sometime.

Now the only problem is how to fit that explanation on a bumper sticker for the 2008 election.

ROFL… Dear heart, you really should learn to read. I was commenting on your silly response pretending that Thompson had been vindicated, not on whether TP had posted the story. Do try to keep up, dear, won’t you?

ROFL... Quite easily, actually, but you keep pretending that we'll have to talk about parliamentary procedures if that makes you feel all warm and squishy inside. The rest of us will talk about Republican intransigence, blocking "up or down votes," getting American soldiers killed, obstructionism, supporting a wildly unpopular war, and all those other wonderful things that fit quite well on bumper stickers.
