Chappelle: ‘I’ll take Tony Snow’s job.’»

At the White House this morning, CNN correspondent Ed Henry “noticed a small group of Secret Service officers gathered around a man with a black backpack.” As he moved closer to the scene, Henry realized who was causing all the commotion, Dave Chappelle:

davechappelle1.gif Since Chappelle made international headlines in 2005 by essentially disappearing for awhile under strange circumstances — and walking away from a $50 million deal to continue his show on Comedy Central — I asked what he’s doing next.

“I want your job,” he said, explaining that it’s fun to watch reporters go back-and-forth with White House Press Secretary Tony Snow.

“Or maybe I’ll take Tony Snow’s job,” Chappelle smiled. “I think that’s a cool job.”

Neither Tony nor I get $50 million. But we both have great jobs — plus you never know who you’ll run into next around here.

At least it might make watching the press conference tolerable. Although I don’t know whom would make me laugh more.

  2. Cappy Says:

What a great job that would be. You don’t need any qualifications as a journalist and you get to make shit up and piss people off. What’s not to like?

  3. Frank Q Says:

Walked away from $50 million?! What a fool.

  4. Jim Says:

With the Dem congress dropping to 14% approval, Chapelle should take Pelosi’s job.

  5. Boudin Bob Says:

As a troll I’d love that job.

  6. Clare Says:

Chappelle is a total has-been. He passed up a 50 million dollar deal and a wildly successful show. He left the country WITHOUT TELLING HIS OWN WIFE. How messed up is that?

  7. Wayne Says:

Stephen Cobert is already ticked that Tony got the job over him, watch yer step Dave =)

  8. Menehune Says:

You probably have to pee in a cup to get the job, Dave. Gonna be tricky.

exactly! If we’re going to engage in speculative gossip about a celebrity, why don’t we just move on to Paris Hilton?

  11. Jim Says:

At least Chapelle knows who Tony Snow is. I have to give him credit for that.

Almost all liberals are so ingorant of current events that if shown a pic of Dick Cheney they think it’s Phil Donahue.

  12. Terrific Jones Says:

WITHOUT TELLING HIS OWN WIFE. How messed up is that?

Uh? Why? You’ve got to respect a guy for that. Just going and leaving everything like a free man he is.

  13. Jade Sepolen Says:

As thousands of people go to bed hungry each night the issue of global poverty is more serious than ever and it can be changed, there are strategies in place to end global poverty. The United States agreed to support the UN’s Millennium Development Goals, a plan to end global poverty by 2015, however according to the Borgen Project the funding to support the end of malnutrition and starvation is under funded by $19 billion annually. Congress needs to become aware of these important issues and make a change.

  14. Jim Says:

“He left the country WITHOUT TELLING HIS OWN WIFE. How messed up is that?”

Bill Clinton does it all the time.

If fact, Clinton is only spends the night with his wife on several occasions per month.

  15. Raven Says:

    Why not?
The White House Press Briefing has become little more than
    (wayyyyyyyy) off Broadway theater.
It could have a good run, we went from
mild mumbling bumbling stumbling Scotty (Sweathog) McClellan,
to sick schtick snappy sarcastic Tony (Snarky) Snow….
Chapelle could take it to the top…

  16. MiddleAmerican Says:

Paris? Really? Where? Over there by the pony! Yay! I’m so friggin content right this minute I could sit here on my couch until Oprah’s over.

  18. Grand Moff Texan Says:

I’ve long thought that, considering how low the press has been willing to grovel, it would be great to just hire a character like some of Chappelle’s crazy characters. Hell, hire a crack whore and call her your ‘press secretary.’

  19. Jim Says:

    Just again for kicks:

“while Bush’s job approval rating has stabilized, opinion of the work Congress is doing continues to plummet. The Zogby poll shows just 14% give Congress positive marks, while 83% give it negative marks.”

When is TP going to post this article? Hmmm?

  28. Jim Says:

Troll Killah, the Dem congress only has half the approval rating of Pres. Bush. Isn’t that wild?

  29. mikey r Says:

Man, this “Jim” Troll Name just isn’t even trying, is he?

I mean, to look THIS lame in contrast to Mr Pee and C**T V1 (what a C**T) is got to be embarrassing. maybe all their troll drill sargeants were appinted to district judgeships or obscure cabinet posts by Bush or something, but they’re just not turning out talent at all.

I’d like to tell Troll Name Jim that “he can do it!” but I’m pretty sure he can’t.

Give it up Jimmy, get a life and some self respect. You are like the pimple faced high school kid who follows the gym teacher around, hoping you’ll be noticed.

Your personal saviour Bush doesn’t care about you, he just needs to keep you stupid enough to vote R.

    Pretty easy job, that one.

  33. Jim Says:

    bobwurst, you’re projecting again.

  34. dlet Says:

That Chappele always edging in on other comedians territories. Somehow I don’t think that Chappelle could pull off the “tar baby” joke as well as Snow did. Or how about that “It’s a number” sketch…..what a classic.

  35. Jim Says:

“A sycophantic Bush apologist who will support Bush, his God, until the bitter end.”

Um, look in the mirror. You are a 14%er. One of the 14% who still approves of the Dem congress.

Their ratings are due to a frustrated public. The result of Repuke filibustering and stonewalling on an Iraq withdrawal bill. His ratings are his alone, at least Congress can say their low ratings are due to the RE-Pug-Licans.

#11; Almost all liberals are so ingorant of current events that if shown a pic of Dick Cheney they think it’s Phil Donahue.

    Not true!

Dick Cheney’s the lying dictator who’s pug graces my my dartboard. Phil Donahue is a man who got fired for questioning the wisdom of the Iraq War… at a time when Cheney was telling us that the war would last a few weeks, Iraqi oil revenues would pay for the war, and a tide of Democracy would sweep through the Middle East.

  42. Jim Says:

“His ratings are his alone, at least Congress can say their low ratings are due to the RE-Pug-Licans.”

You can’t blame this on the GOP. The Dem congress has acomplished nothing since they took office. They have failed at governing. Time to turn over the keys.

Hahahah! That was a good one!

What a dumb blowhard you are.

And that takes some doing on a day like today. The trolls are in full meltdown mode — again. They don’t have two thoughts to rub together and they can’t even get out their moronic talking points without fumbling them and sounding stupid.

Well, I guess that last part is unavoidable for them.

  62. nanlichi Says:

No Jimmy, you ignorant c*nt, I don’t support the Congress. I would like to see them stop Bush’s War in any way possible and would like to see them take a hard stance against these evil bastards.

I think the 14% who support Congress are a subset of the 25%ers who still blow Bush. Because the Congress is not busting his balls, they are giving him cover.

Bush is my God. Bush is my saviour. I will praise Bush and put no other God before Him. Right Jimmy?

  88. GaleS66 Says:

To those that think the poor poll numbers for congress are an indication of public dissatisfaction with the democratic party are sadly mistaken. The poor poll numbers indicate a strong dissatisfaction for republican stonewalling in congress.

  89. PG Says:

Those like Jim who want to score partisan points off polling about a narrowly divided Congress might want to try asking the questions that would actually make their point.

First, ask whether the respondent is a Democrat, Republican or independent. Then ask,

    1) “Do you approve or disapprove of the work done by Congressional Democrats since January 2007?”

    2) “Do you approve or disapprove of the work done by Congressional Republican since January 2007?”

Otherwise, we don’t know what the poll represents. Republicans responding the poll may well be pissed off at their leadership for not getting anything done to stem illegal immigration, while Democrats responding to the poll may well be pissed off at their leadership for not getting anything done to get our troops out of Iraq. Or maybe Republican respondents are pissed at the Democrats’ defiance of the president, and Democratic respondents are pissed at the Republicans’ stonewalling of Democratic efforts.

So until you get me the results of THAT poll, Jim, you are contributing nothing and I would urge readers of this blog to ignore your obscene, irrelevant remarks.

(In contrast, polls about how pepole feel about the president are much easier, because the president can be of only one party — indeed, of only one ideology within that party.)
