House game plan on Iraq.

House game plan on Iraq.

CQ reports (sub. required):

With some temporary leeway granted by her party’s anti-war activists, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will try this week to chip away at President Bush’s Iraq policy rather than halt the war outright.

Now that a withdrawal deadline like that approved by the House has stalled in the Senate, Democratic leaders have signaled they will likely opt for incremental measures, such as a bill (HR 2929) sponsored by Barbara Lee, D-Calif., that would effectively extend a ban on permanent U.S. bases in Iraq.

That legislation would do little or nothing to force the president’s hand. But it would buy time to build support for another redeployment proposal by Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman John P. Murtha, D-Pa., to be offered on the floor as an amendment to the fiscal 2008 Defense appropriations bill.

  2. jeanruss says:

Nancy Pelosi is violating the oath she took to defend the Constitution. If she won’t impeach, then SHE should be impeached for dereliction of duty and replaced with someone who understands their job. The approval ratings for Congress would SOAR if she would do what she is legally bound to do. If we have a war with Iran or another false flag incident that allows the President to instigate Marshall Law, it will be her fault. She has a date with destiny, but doesn’t seem to have the guts to face it.

  3. bilbobaggins says:

They have the ability to get the ball rolling right now. All the Democratic Congress needs to do is to tell Bush that he MAY NOT submit another “emergency” appropriations bill for Iraq. He must submit a regular appropriations bill and find money elsewhere in the budget to balance the money they want to spend in Iraq. That’s the first step. The second step should be to say that they will not approve another appropriations bill unless it contains an exit plan for Iraq. It doesn’t have to be tomorrow, just an exit plan of some sort within the next 6 months or so.

By doing both of those things, they will back the white house into a corner. The Republicans can filibuster passing that funding bill at their peril and so can the white house.

  4. bilbobaggins says:

#2 “She has a date with destiny, but doesn’t seem to have the guts to face it.”

I agree with you wholeheartedly. But, how are you going to start impeachment against the speaker of the house. Who is going to instigate it? I think that she will come around when enough people hammer her with their feelings. Write her, call her speaker’s office and let her know that we expect her to do her duty.

The only thing that scares me is that we will have to impeach both Bush and Chaney at the same time. That will give us Nancy Pelosi as President. Since I don’t think she is up to the task of Speaker of the House, I certainly don’t think she is up to the task of President. But, she would definitely be a step up. Practically anyone as President would be better than Bush.

  6. Lesly says:

He doesn’t have to chip away at anything! All he has to do is stop funding. Goddamnit. Have some balls.

  8. veritas says:

Lesly, balls are precisely what’s seriously lacking in this new Congress!

Actually, it’s a bit more than mere balls; it’s the upholding of their oath of office which states that, if impeachable offenses occur, it is their RESPONSIBILITY to begin impeachment proceedings immediately in accordance with their oath of office; somehow these fools are acting as though it is their “perogative” or “option” to do so – wrongo! And, if Nancy and Harry keep this non-impeachment going, they will find themselves hoist on their own pitard and subject to ouster themselves for derelection of duty.

Just like the Repukes have it both ways – if they cut the funding for the war, they’d not be supporting the troops – so they knuckled under and now the Repukes are using their weakness to stand up to this dictator as a strike againt them.

Similarly, if they fail the people by upholding their oath of office and their obligation to impeach, the Repukes will also use it against them ultimately and they will move to impeach them for it!

Dems need to get a grip and grow some balls….the patience of the people is running out.

I see. So death is more palatable “over there”? Life is less meaningful when not American?
This thinking is what got us into this mess to begin with.

  10. veritas says:

In my estimation, the Democrats deserve the abysmally low percentage they’re receiving right now because they are going about things all the wrong way. They’re contributing to the problems instead of receiving counsel about how to get things done which are probabilities for them (like impeachment and inherent contempt charges against Harriet Miers) but I don’t believe they have the guts to do it.

  11. veritas says:

They’re squandering their political capitol gained by the midterms; as well, they’re spinning their wheels at this “chipping away” game of theirs. They know precisely what they needed to do: cut the funding – they caved and whimped out. Now they know precisely what they need to do next: inherent contempt and impeachment – will they let us down and whimp out again? It’s beginning to sound and feel like they’re doing precisely that…..with this chip, chip, chipping bull$hit of theirs.

  12. leftcoast says:

The problem with Pelosi is that she sees her position as a “career” instead of a responsibility. Bold leadership will not come from “career leaders”.

  13. veritas says:

political capitol vs. political capital….One’s where they reside; the other is what they’ve already lost between the midterms and now! Either way….they’re squandering both.

  14. veritas says:

leftcoast: how’s it going? Counting the days no doubt. You’ll have to keep us posted on the countdown. Yes, Pelosi is a huge disappointment – now that she’s gotten her new coiffeur, some plastic work, and a new dress-for-success wardrobe, she’s become a “stepford politico” – all puff and show and no action. I’m totally disgusted with her performance thus far. And I hope that Sheehan gives her a good run for her money, too! Stepford Nancy vs. Reality Sheehan….lining up to be a good fight!

  15. Clyde the Ripper says:

It is apparent that a good number of the Democrat members of Congress (Both Houses) suffer from the same physical abnormality. Theyseem to have wish bones where their backbones should be.

  16. leftcoast says:

veritas- Doing well. Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well.
I’m very disappointed with Pelosi, and unfortunately do not anticipate any “bold” steps by her or other Dems. Dems need to utilize every method they can and think outside the box to rest control from repubs who are merely there to “win” rather than to seek what’s right.

Question; When you build a house, do you (Bloggers for Instant Impeachment/BFII) start on the roof, and then work your way down, to the basement?
Can you handle answering that simple question, or are you going to sulk a little, maybe whine to yourself, and then go to some other blog?
The refrain of, “We need to Instantanly Impeach Bush and Cheney, and it has to happen right this second” sounds about as stupid and immature as ” Well,Clinton did it!”
Well I’ll wait for your answers!

  20. veritas says:

leftcoast: Possibly the skeletons which may have been discovered by the illegal wiretapping of political opponents may have her mute?? Sounds like a bit of blackmail to me. Otherwise, there’s no reason for it. This is why Bush bragged about his wiretapping program to put pressure on his political foes. Otherwise, why he believe he could get the FISA court to agree to it the right way? Hmmm….sounds fishy to me. Buying silence anyone??

  21. veritas says:

  31. WaltTheMan says:

Got this from a friend today:
    ———————————————————————————
God was missing for six days. Eventually, Michael, the archangel, found him resting on the seventh day. He inquired of God “Where have you been?”

God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction, and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, “Look, Michael. Look what I’ve made.”

Archangel Michael looked puzzled, and said, “What is it?”

“It’s a planet,” replied God, “and I’ve put Life on it. I’m going to call
it Earth and it’s going to be a great place of balance.”

“Balance?” inquired Michael, “I’m still confused.”

God explained, pointing to different parts of earth. “For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while southern Europe is going to be poor Over there I’ve placed a continent of white people, and over there is a continent of black people. Balance in all things,”

God continued pointing to different countries. “This land will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice.”

The Archangel , impressed by God’s work, then pointed to a land area and said, “What’s that one?”

“Ah,” said God, “That’s Washington State, the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful mountains, rivers and streams, lakes, forests, hills and plains. The people from Washington State are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent, and humorous, and they are going to be found traveling the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking, high achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as diplomats, and carriers of peace.

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then asked, “But what about balance, God? You said there would be balance.”

God smiled, “There is another Washington. Wait till you see the idiots I put there.”

Bobby- go read and study. No time for your BS.
Taking family to dinner. Be back to hear what you learned.

  41. Sluggo says:

There are several ways to read this move…

If the target is Bush then these are delaying tactics and do nothing about the central problem (Bush and Chaney tearing up the Constitution) and will not prevent an outright “takeover” by Bush of the government (”we cannot leave office because of the _____ attack that just took place” – you can fill-in the blank when something happens in the next year).

The people that believe this course of events can happen will keep insisting Bush be confronted now.

The other target are the Republican Senators voting to block withdrawal legislation. The Democrats only need a handful of Senators to switch their votes. With a lot of Republican Senators running for re-election and with their own political base getting sick of Bush and the War, these Republican Senators understand that they might be thrown out of office.

A lot has been staked on the September report on the “Surge” by the Pentagon. Bush already knows the report will be a disaster and his people are trying to delay until next Summer. But by that time, if there has been no movement in Iraq, Republican Senators running for re-election will have to go home and face a VERY unhappy group of voters. I don’t think they will wait. However, these voters will rally to support Bush if the Democrats push impeachment.

If the Democrats want to get the votes before the end of the year, they need to block empty resolutions that look good but don’t really do anything (this is what Reid has done). They need to keep the dialog focused on Iraq and keep pushing investigations and making Bush stonewall.

It comes down to a P.R. campaign being waged by the Democratic leadership against the few Republican Senators up for re-election. If the focus can be kept on Bush and Iraq, at some point, these Senators will vote for a Democratic plan to withdraw for their own political survival.

The problem with this whole argument is that more people will have to die in Iraq while a political game is being played in Congress. Human beings will be killed. A short-term impeachment strategy is risky and may fail but has the potential to save lives. A long-term PR strategy will most likely succeed but at the cost of Human Life.

Why are having to make these kinds of decisions?

I think a good concept would be this: If you are sitting in Congress and want to vote for a war, then in order to do so, either you, your spouse, or one of your children need to be sacrificed to it. That’s only fair. We have these impotent fools in Congress right now playing with our lives and the lives of our loved ones.

    Comment by muckdog — July 21, 2007 @ 4:23 pm

The reason I find this an idiotic defense of what the administration is doing (regardless of who is making it) is that it implies that we are not fighting them over here at all. That we are doing nothing to combat terrorism within our own borders.

Which, logically, implies that if we are not “fighting them over here” then those arrests of all those wannabe terrorists (most, if not all, of whom had “plans” that were “more aspirational than operational”) had nothing to do with fighting terrorism.

So why were they arrested if they weren’t terrorists? And if they really were terrorists, then are we not, in fact, “fighting them over here”? The lack of internal logic in their arguments is astounding.

Lying to the public is not a violation of the law – it’s part of a politician’s job description. Lying to a grand jury is a violation of the law. Going to war based on false information is not impeachable unless you can prove that the President knew the information to be false. That’s very difficult to prove.

Bush says US, Pakistan targeting Al-Qaeda ’safe-haven’

The US president said Musharraf recognized that a September 2006 deal with tribal chiefs to police their own region had failed and that he was “taking active steps to correct it.”

“Earlier this month, he sent in Pakistani forces to go after radicals who seized control of a mosque, and then he delivered a speech vowing to rid all of Pakistan of extremism,” the US president said.

“Pakistani forces are in the fight, and many have given their lives. The United States supports them in these efforts. And we will work with our partners to deny safe haven to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Pakistan — or anywhere else in the world,” Bush said.

    Democrats cut ‘John Doe’ provision

Congressional Democrats today failed to include a provision in homeland security legislation that would protect the public from being sued for reporting suspicious behavior that may lead to a terrorist attack, according to House Republican leaders.

“This is a slap in the face of good citizens who do their patriotic duty and come forward, and it caves in to radical Islamists,” said Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Yep, lets punish people for taking notice of terrorist operations around them!

Perhaps you’re not familiar with history.

I think if you reviewed history you might find that the suicide bombers and those blowing up malls, buses, cars, and restaurants for the most part were enraged “Moslems.” And this has been going on long before Bush was President. The first Bush.

If we surrender then that would be the greatest recruiting tool ever. It would be a defacto acknowledgment that Allah > God. That blowing themselves up and killing innocents is what they should be doing more of.

It won’t, as my rep says, cause a groundswell of support for Bush. He’s completely full of shit on that point.

What it might do is keep the pressure on the repukes to justify their blind ass following of Bush orders.

The tactics in play by the Dems now will not stop the war.
However, they may force the repukes to side with the chymp, punching huge holes in their re-election campaigns for 08.

Muckdog: Why do we have troops stationed in Saudi Arabia (courtesy of bush’s dad)? Why do you think bin laden turned on us in the early 90s?
Maybe we should be thinking about not only leaving Iraq, but Saudi Arabia, too. It may be a start toward diffusing some of their hatred towards us.

    Oh, but the oil . . .

  103. hterrya says:

The Congressional Quaterly quote that started this topic (remember the topic), starts with a sentence containing errors that are presented as “matters of fact.” See for yourself:

With some temporary leeway granted by her party’s anti-war activists, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will try this week to chip away at President Bush’s Iraq policy rather than halt the war outright.

When did those opposing the interminable occuptaion and destruction of Iraq (code name: “anti-war activists”) give Speaker Pelosi any “leeway?”

Do you see any “leeway giving” on this thread?

Then there is the phrase, “…chip away ….rather than halt the war outright.”

The war? You know, the NeoCon talking points for the invasion: finding weapons of mass destruction, deposing the dictator, establishing free election. Well, that “war” is over what we have is 150,000+ U.S. troops occupying a country that is in the midst of an extremely destructive civil war. It seems that THAT needs to be HALTED rather than “chipped away” at.

So, to move away from CQ’s disengenuousness to Pelosi’s tactics of the moment:

Speaker Pelosi appears to be doing a political dance, hoping not to offend the independents before the 2008 election. We’ve been through that kind of “political dance before. In 2002, Gebhardt and Daschle danced us into a “pre-emptive war.” Now wasn’t THAT a nice dance?

It is time to cut out the “dance” and start with troop withdrawal and and impeachment.

    Why impeachment?
It will totally occupy the current corrupt administration, as it did the Clinton administration. Some of the worst behavior may be postponed.

Won’t that block progressive legislation from getting through?
The Senate NeoCons are already blocking progressive legislation and the veto is ready for legislation that isn’t blocked.

To answer your question, (I think) we have troops stationed in Saudi Arabia (courtesy of bush’s dad) and in other places around the world to protect our national security. And the honest people will agree that that includes the free flow of oil – not stealing oil, but finding it, drilling for it, pumping it, transporting it, and buying it.

The oil wasn’t doing the Arabs any good before we got there. And oil is as important to Americans as air. You can’t live without it, and neither can I – and if you tell me you can, then just send yours my way and it’ll lower the price.

Understood. From the experts I’ve heard – and they line up on both sides, but the Saudi leadership wants US protection from the “people”. And it’s the “House of Saud” – Saudi leadership that sells us the oil.

So we hold our collective noses and deal with a few hundred Saudi leaders and buy their oil, rather than doing the progressive thing and siding with the Arab proletariat and having to deal with 50 million different opinions about oil, occupiers, crusaders, infidels, etc.

    I think.

  115. bilbobaggins says:

“Question; When you build a house, do you (Bloggers for Instant Impeachment/BFII) start on the roof, and then work your way down, to the basement?”

The problem with your theory is that you are assuming that they can get to the roof, starting form the basement. The problem with this is that Nancy Pelosi, by announcing that Impeachment WOULD NOT be on the table, gave Bush and his friends the leeway to thumb their noses in the face of Congress. How are we going to get to the roof if everyone involved in Bush’s crimes either loses their memory or refuses to answer, or worst of all, doesn’t even bother to show up? The only way Congress can get around this is by 1) using Inherent Contempt and 2) Starting impeachment proceedings. Once Bush is under Articles of Impeachment, he will no longer be able to claim Executive Privilege and his friends will have nowhere to hide.

Nancy Pelosi needs to put impeachment on the table. That doesn’t mean that the Democrats need to immediately start impeachment proceedings, but putting impeachment on the table will put Bush and Friends on notice that the Democrats are no longer going to play nice.

I believe it can happen. I believe that if we impeach Bush/Chaney (together), the American people will be watching the impeachment proceeding very carefully. When they see all the crimes that Bush and Chaney have committed, and all the evidence we have of those crimes, the American public will be marching in the streets demanding their impeachment. By the time they take a vote, the Republican senators who have been supporting Bush will know that if they don’t vote to impeach, there will be no hope for their re-election in 2008. And if, in the end, they are not impeached, at least we will have shown this country and the world that we care about our constitution and the rule of law.

  119. Fred Clemson says:

It’s my opinion, that the Dem’s are going after the Impeachment Process correctly, by dotting all their I’s, and crossing all their T’s .

    Democratic Stalling and Obfuscation:

It is not clear whether this is tactical stalling and deception in order to position for the’08 elections OR it is to cloak full willful participation in the ongoing war crimes in Iraq AND both the war crimes and the crimes against humanity to be wrought on the Iranian people. What is obvious is the intentional stalling, the obfuscation of their agenda, and these faux attempts to stop either war. The ban on permanent bases is no restriction whatsoever to the monstrous permanent bases already built, being built or in the planning stages. The wording of the legislation does nothing to impede these. All the administration has to do is to use some other label for them. The same thing is true for the withdrawal proposals which would still allow hundreds of thousands of soldiers and mercenaries to remain in the country simply by matching the labels for them to the exceptions listed in the bills.
The democrats are purposely holding open the door to attacking a peaceful nation (Iran has not initiated an attack on another nation in two centuries) that poses no threat the US or Israel. As Seymour Hersh reported, operations attacking Iraq began a year ago by clandestine US forces as well as Kurdish and other terrorist operatives. The significance of the September review should not have gone unnoticed to those remembering that the Bush regime has admitted that they wouldn’t bring out a new marketing campaign in the summer, and would always wait until September to launch any new massive coordinated campaigns of lies to the American public. The White House and many members of Congress (including at least some democrats) know whatever it is that has been long planned but is to be announced as some response to whatever lies Petraeus will bring in September.
From day one in January Pelosi and Reid had it within their power to stop this madness by simply preventing any military legislation (including appropriations) until the necessary language was included. They did not do this and almost all of the powerful democrats (including Levin and Obama) parroted the lies that any war-ending legislation would be the same as not supporting and protecting the troops. In terms of actions taken, there is no genuine representation in the US government for the people, the law, our security, our freedom, democracy or even for simple decency. If it was possible to impeach all of those with significant power, we would have an option that was best for the country and all of humanity.

  128. Art says:

Pretty depressing, leftcoast. I wonder how many tons of Sarin and mustard gas this country has stashed away? of course, it would be short the amount we gave Saddam back in the ’80’s, huh?

  135. You still have time says:

    Mr. S,

Gosh, “nuts” is such an articulated, meaningful word. Okay, tough guy, go ahead. Lay me out cold.

Lay you out cold? I don’t think I could do that textually.
The only thing I could add is that your previous ARTICULATED, MEANINGFUL response was

”You’re late, dum-dum. All the otehr trolls have gone home, and the locals are off taking care of personal stuff. “Nut” rejoinders? Your words speak for themselves, pal.”

How could I compete with that? At least we’re still pals.

BTW, no relation to Mr. P

  136. kalashnikov says:

“[Pelosi] will try this week to chip away at President Bush’s Iraq policy rather than halt the war outright.”

    Yeah… you do that!!!

    HEyOOoooOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  137. Kalashnikov says:

    Mr. P is chillin’.

He isn’t going to use that name, it tends to scare people away.

He told me to tell you TPers… “Breed, breed… Jesus loves the aroma of TPers procreating!!!”

  138. leftcoast says:

“Fraud” -includes deliberate misrepresentations, outright lies, half-truths and statements made with reckless disregard for the truth. Bush and Cheney used all of these methods to convince the public and Congress to agree to their plan to invade Iraq.

Mr. P is back with the gun used by Islamist extremists.

We know your nuts, and the Dem leadership knows your nuts. It’s just you that don’t know your nuts.

Feel free to fight back with “nuts” rejoinders.

Comment by You still have time

Indeed, you come thru the door w/ a comment like that, and people don’t throw roses? I can’t understand what’s up w/ THAT.

And so how can I compete w/ that?

BTW, I don’t believe you when you say you’re not Mr. P

People here are nuts, but when Bill O’Reilly talks about lesbian gangs running amok in DC or Mr P tries to sell this cock-n-bull story that the Saudis aren’t Moslems, those folks are making sense?

    Yes!!!

  143. You still have time says:

Ok, “nuts” offended you. How about this:

Send your stuff directly to the Dem leadership. And when they reject your nonsense, then it’ll save us trolls lots of counter debate.

We know that your [calls for impeachment will accomplish nothing], and the Dem leadership knows your [calls for impeachment will accomplish nothing]. It’s just you that don’t know your [calls for impeachment will accomplish nothing].

No more “nuts”. Don’t want to offend.

Since he says “yes”, he clearly does not use facts and reason in his decision making. Therefore, he should not bother posting to a blog looking for ideas on how to solve some of our nation’s (and the world’s) problems. (I added the world because we are all interconnected whether we like it or not. I like it, but I know people like Mr. P and his Sybil Collection of personalities don’t.)

  145. Kalashnikov says:

Who’s here? Just Wayne and Mr. Stupid???

How are you guys gonna breed???

    Mr. Stupid is impotent!!!

    Um, this is TP.

Over 50 percent of the threads refer to the President of the United States as Hitler or a chimp. Solving problems?

Facts and Reason? Don’t bother posting to this prestigious blog looking for ways to solve our nations problems – today we had every manor of “head up the prez a$$” and the vice prez should shoot himself, etc., forgive me for thinking this is an enlightened problem solving blog.

So the meatgrinder in Iraq goes on, the rest of the world hates the US even more, and we’re nuts for not liking this. The govt’s own NIE say Aal Qaeda is regrouping and the war in Iraq has made us less safe, and we’re crazy for not liking this. Outside of some extraordinary narcissism on your part, what point do you think YOU’RE making?

    “Your calls for impeachment”

By 6 March 2007 a total of 39 towns in Vermont (up from just five towns in 2006) had passed resolutions calling on the U.S. Congress to file articles of impeachment against President Bush for misleading the nation on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction and for engaging in illegal wiretapping. On May 17, 2007, the Detroit City Council passed a unanimous, non-binding resolution calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. The resolution was sponsored by Monica Conyers, wife of Rep. John Conyers.
As of June, 2007, a number of local community governments had passed similar impeachment resolutions, as follows[38]
    California: 6 cities
    Illinois: 1 city (Urbana)
    Massachusetts: 17 towns
    Michigan: 2 cities (Detroit; Ferndale)
    New Hampshire: 1 township (Hanover)
New York: 4 townships; 1 county (Tompkins)
    North Carolina: 2 towns (Carrboro; Chapel Hill}
    Ohio: 1 city (Oberlin)
    Vermont: 39 townships
Washington: 11 state legislative districts; 1 city (Olympia)

Plus an increasing number of states…

    Riiight… just disorganized kooks.

I’m not offended by your use of the word “nuts”. you clearly mean it to be a perjorative. Like the word “crazy”, it has no medical bearing.

What I do react to is your immediate caustic, offensive intention.

Please, go ahead and “offend”. It’s basic physics. For every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction. Everytime you tke a shot at one of us, you’re smacking yurself in the face at the same time.

Any good martial artist can tell you that. Please, please continue to spew irrational vitriol whenever you come here. You will be showered w/ it in return. Just out of curiosity, who is “we”?

I realize that post #19 by Bobby Hill was not written by a television set. I also realize that the human race is also not all that much different from cartoon characters.

The question is why do these ‘hue-manna’ holographic entities constantly fight over what they can never actually own nor comprehend? And why do they constantly fight over whose God can kick whose Gods behind? I only have one behind. =)

  157. Kilo says:

bill (HR 2929) sponsored by Barbara Lee, D-Calif., that would effectively extend a ban on permanent U.S. bases in Iraq.

Why bother highlighting this as though it is important ?
In face why bother mentioning it at all ?

This is the same bill that you have been running stories about here for months and it is just as pointless as it was when you started, no matter how you spin it.

It DOES NOT prohibit permanent bases in Iraq. It prohibits only the ESTABLISHMENT of new bases. Something which isn’t required since all the existing permanent bases in Iraq are sufficient.

The US has been operating out of massive bases in Iraq for 4 years during which time they have had the maximum amount of troops they will ever have in Iraq.
WTF reason would they have to establish a new permanent base ?

Idiots. Use your fkn head instead of being cheerleaders for BS window dressing.

  158. RUCerious says:

2.2 lbs of bs, don’t get cute with one word of the language, as here’s the
    SEC. 2. STATEMENT OF POLICY.

It is the policy of the United States not to establish any military installation or base for the purpose of providing for the permanent stationing of United States Armed Forces in Iraq and not to exercise United States control of the oil resources of Iraq.

  159. Wayne A. Schneider says:

“Over 50 percent of the threads refer to the President of the United States as Hitler or a chimp.”

I haven’t been in on this whole blogging thing from the beginning, so I’ve picked it all up along the way. My understanding is that a “thread” is the article that TP posts. To my knowledge, TP has never referrred to Bush as a chimp or Hitler.

If the poster meant to refer to the comments made by other posters, at the time he wrote this there were two, and only two, references to Bush as a “chimp” and zero as “Hitler”, on this thread.

Sounds like just another meaningless, baseless, fact-challenged attack by a very, very scared child.

WTF is wrong with you ? What you just quoted confirmed what I said idiot.

Either you think a bill portrayed as prohibiting guns in schools but in reality only prohibits new guns and not those already there would be misleading or you don’t. You do. The end.

So with knowledge of where he is referred to him as such on a daily basis you could have probably guessed better.

The only question I have for Pete **snicker** King is, “When are you going to drop the pretense and start wearing the beanie propeller in public, Congressman?”

Being vigilant and prepared is paranoia? Gosh, if someone sees Osama, they better keep their mouth shut, or else they’ll get a lawsuit rammed up their rear!

  164. m12 says:

Ever heard of “Racial Profiling”? Today’s politically correct terrorist might be a Middle Easterner, and tomorrow a young white male from Ohio ( remember the white American Terrorist Tim McVeigh)! Had this amendment be allowed to stay in the bill and became law, guess what?
You M12, could be picked up off the street, held for years ,with no trial, and then just released oops, sorry cause someone mistakenly identified you as a terrorist, just because of your looks, profile, color! But guess what, under that Law you couldn’t sue the person ,or police or anybody that ratted you out ! Your SOL! That’s what that Racial Profiling law was all about!

You mean we all tend to look for characteristics of terrorists to identify terrorists? Oh noez!

Please inform us of any sightings. We will indemnify you from lawsuits.

So, Fred, please tell me how they are going to dot their I’s and cross their T’s when they are unable to get the evidence they need due to the Bush Administration’s stonewalling them at every point?

  167. muckdog says:

By the way…there were no Terrorist Attacks in Iraq before we toppled Saddam. NONE

Saddam was using chemical weapons against large masses of populations to wipe them out. The coalition forces in Iraq have unearthed massive graves full of bodies. Saddam “went Hitler” on those people and tried to exterminate them.

We’re not trying to exterminate the rival factions in Iraq, but bring them together to form a united government.

The terrorists don’t want this to happen, because it would reduce their ability to recruit suicide bombers and other members to fight the Great Satan and convert us to Islam.

  168. dbadass says:

Saddam was using chemical weapons against large masses of populations to wipe them out.

Where these the ones we provided and stood by why they we being used? Hey Muck tell me you were out in the streets demanding the international community act against this inhuman behavior at the time so that I can take you seriously.

i say get the hell on with the Impeachment hearings and start building your case. geez. what did we elect these rascals for anyway?? why even bother voting?????
