Bush hearts Bill Kristol.

Bush hearts Bill Kristol.

The Washington Post writes, “Bill Kristol’s the-war-is-being-won piece in The Washington Post brought him plenty of ridicule, but at least one person liked it. President Bush read the July 15 Outlook article that morning and recommended it to his staff.” The title of Kristol’s piece was: “Why Bush Will Be A Winner.”

Okay, Cheney read it TO him.

He probably still breathes a sigh of relief that he didn’t finish his big article “Why Sanjaya Will Win American Idol” before deadline.

    Call Congress Today for Impeachment

We’ve reached the impeachment moment for Vice President Dick Cheney. We’ve pushed the cosponsor list for H. Res. 333 up to 14. Chairman John Conyers says that if we get 3 more he’ll begin the impeachment proceedings.

And many Congress Members must be recognizing that there is no other path available. Cheney and Bush have repeatedly refused to comply with subpoenas, ordered former staffers not to comply, and announced that the Justice Department will not enforce contempt citations from Congress. When a special prosecutor attempted to hold this administration accountable, Cheney’s chief of staff obstructed justice, and Cheney persuaded Bush to commute his sentence. There is no course left for Congress but Impeachment.

On Monday, July 23rd, the fifth anniversary of the meeting that produced the Downing Street Minutes, Cindy Sheehan, Ray McGovern, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Ann Wright, Debra Sweet, Dave Lindorff, David Swanson, Jodie Evans, Medea Benjamin, Kevin Zeese, and Tina Richards will lead a march to Chairman Conyers office and not leave until he agrees to begin impeachment proceedings.

If you cannot be there, you can take two minutes on Monday and do two things: phone Chairman Conyers at 202-225-5126 and ask him to start the impeachment of Dick Cheney; and phone your own Congress Member at 202-224-3121 and ask them to immediately call Conyers’ office to express their support for impeachment. Your Congress Member might be one of the three needed, not just to keep impeachment activists out of jail but to keep this nation from devolving into dictatorship.

Um, I tend to think not. Living in a bubble is hard work. It was an insult to average Americans everywhere….no wonder Junyah loved it.

  31. W.Clements says:

Not much of an endorsement Mr. Kristol; after-all, despite being President (a source of profound embarrassment to any self-respecting American and pretty much the rest of the world), this poor man lives in a small delusional bubble of his own making.

“Why, of course, the people don’t want war,” Goering shrugged. [...] “…the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship.”

“There is one difference,” I pointed out. “In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars.”

“Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

  43. Ben B says:

This is pretty simple. Bush has two motives. The first is “please, someone tell me they like me.” The second is “Dear god, don’t let Cheney shoot me in the face.” Everything you need to know about how Bush will respond to a situation boils down to those two competing motives…

I would have to find them, but I have seen the video clips of Kerry, Kennedy, Daschle, Clinton and other prominent Democrats in late 2002 and early 2003, explaining how significant a threat Saddam was and why it was so essential to take action against him. These people were and are opportunist, unless the vast majority of people supported the idea at the time, they wouldn’t have taken the stance. Now, that the war has become unpopular and we have forgot why we are fighting, many want to believe they knew it was a bad idea all along. (It wasn’t a bad idea, unless you prefer progressive attacks on your liberty by fundamentalist Islam)

Russ Feingold wrote, before the war:

[] An invasion of Iraq in the next few weeks or months could in fact be very counterproductive. In fact, it could risk our national security. [] I oppose this resolution because of the continuing unanswered questions, including the very important questions about what the mission is here, what the nature of the operation will be, what will happen concerning weapons of mass destruction in Iraq as the attack proceeds and afterward, and what the plan is after the attack is over.”

The invasion of Iraq has turned out to be a huge tactical error, not just in the broader scope of foreign policy, but even in the narrower scope of fighting terrorism. Bill Kristol, who has been wrong about virtually everything (before the invasion, for instance, he said there was “no evidence” that the “pop psychology” diagnosis that Sunnis and Shias would fight each other was accurate) has proclaimed that Bush will someday be seen as a “winner”.

Bush embraced this view, just like he embraced the fiction of WMDs and yellowcake touted by Ahmed Chalabi, just like he embraced the Saddam=al Qaeda theory espoused by The Dick Cheney, just like he embraced “the Math” that Karl Rove said would result in Republicans holding control of both house of Congress after the ‘06 election.

    THAT’s the point.

The continued willingness to embrace delusion rather than face reality is what leads to the judgment that these people are idiots.

Even if that supposed weakness is tangential to the point being made, that is what you will focus on, like any good troll.

Rush isn’t for real. It is a marketing gimic. Your being played. His schtick is no different than Sterns. It is about audience and ratings not heartfelt beliefs. BTW: I listen to him and find it highly amusing.

Hey, speaking of William the Bloody, did anyone catch the piece they had on C&L from Fox yesterday?

Billy Kristol made fun of Democratic candidates, by saying that since their spouses (Elizabeth Edwards, Bill Clinton, Michelle Obama) were so much more interesting than the candidates, Fox should hold a debate with the spouses.

But when faux-liberal Juan Williams said that they could include Jeri Thompson, Fred’s “trophy wife”, William the Bloody and Brit Hume all of a sudden decided, “Whoa!” — spouses were off-limits. Republican spouses, that is.

Ah, yes, Hypocrisy, thy party registration is Republican.

    I loved the article!!!

dbadass. I also find the show entertaining. Although I don’t agree with all his positions, it would be hard to deny his capabilities as a broadcaster. I also believe his reputation as a hateful bigot (among the left) are mostly an attempt to discredit him, only because he is successful.

    Impeach Congress

    Bush approval 34%

    Democratic lead Congress 14%

trophy wife insinuates interesting in a physical way. That was probably the root of the objection.

  83. paul says:

spit take. Nancy Pelosi (along with most other democrats) pledged: “that we will spare no resource and no effort to make sure nothing stands between them and victory.”

Now, that the political winds have changed direction, they abandon their promises.

Bush doesn’t have the luxury of formulating policy based on how difficult things have been in the past. If you think about it, democrats aren’t proposing any solutions, they are complaining about the decision to go to war (that they also supported) and highlighting the mistakes (that occur in every war) that have happened to date. When liberals actually offer some plan that has real promise of security for the West instead of selective outrage of the Bush administration’s policies, maybe they could have some impact. Until then, please stop obstructing the administrations efforts to secure an important region of the middle east and combat terrorist elements (that attacked us on 9/11 and before) that now see Iraq as the major front of the war on terror.

Or it could be because of the hateful and bigoted things he says…

Oh, that can’t be it — because “lefties” must hate anyone who is “successful”, right? Because they’re dirty f*cking hippies, right?

  85. paul says:

mikey r. not because hippies are dirty, but because Rush’s success undermines democrat party false promises. The more you open your mind and consider conservatism, the more you understand how democrats are deceitfully patronizing you at the expense of your liberty for their power. Think about how democrats promised to get us out of Iraq in exchange for our votes. They have both houses of congress and a majority of the Americans support. Still, they want you to believe that republicans are to blame for their inaction.

    Comment by paul

A ridiculous talking point. They currently have a razor-thin majority in both houses, which is nowhere near enough to, for example, override an obvious veto from GWB. There is a long list of measures that the House has passed which Republic Senators have blocked. Go look it up and then you can lose the whole “Democrats promised” b.s.

“Kristol has been wrong about everything else for the last six years”

Come on now. You’re giving Kristol less credit than he deserves.

He’s been wrong about everything for a LOT longer than just six years.
