The sad part about being a Democrat is having to deal with Liberals. She was asked about the Palace. Not Iraq, it’s people, it’s business, etc. Since she’s likely BEEN to the Mall of America, this Palace is likely the closest thing she can think of that compares in size and scope.

Yea I read the article and gathered the correct context. TP should have presented it more accurately than they did. At least they don’t spin and repeat false info about topics like Plame’s covert status.

The simple bit of info that Bachmann was comparing a tyrant’s palace to the MOA would have been enough for me.

Maybe she’ll go to New Orleans next and compare the empty streets to the solitude of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

Now I don’t like Bachmann much at all, but let’s get this straight – she didn’t say Iraq was like the Mall of America.

She said Saddam’s Palace was similar in size to the Mall of America.

If she had said “Wow, Saddam’s palace is the size of ten football fields!” then I wonder if you would have blogged “Hey this crazy Rep. thinks Iraq is nothing more than a friendly game of football!”

Bachman was also caught on film spying on a gay rights rally from behind some bushes (the arboreal type) at the MN state capital.

She also ingeniously stated that there would be no unemployment if the minimum wage law was repealed. Cause, ah my gawd, then people could work for one dollar an hour, totally regardless of the poverty line.

Her comment was in direct response to a question about Sadaam’s palace. This article is trying to make a point but deceptive in attempting to suggest that she said Iraq, as a whole, is like the Mall of America. This article is deliberately taking her comments out of context. It would have been stronger without the context lifting. I am, however, empathetic with the outrage of her Bush support for the war. Why travel there at taxpayer expense if you can’t ever leave the Green Zone?

Frank J…I do not know where you are getting your talking points but it is best to never speak and let others wonder if you are stupid rather than to speak and confirm their assumptions. What you say is not true and the facts from the CIA, NSA and the Pentagon bears that out. You really need to try to get your information from others besides O’Reilly, Limbaugh and Hannity….and of course Fox “Our Opinion of The News” station. You fail to mention that 1. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11…2. Osama is still on the run…3. Al Qaeda was not in Iraq before the Bush-GOP Iraq War. If you want to pontificate on any so-called successes then you must also point out the failures.

Ms. Bachman does certainly take the prize for dumb comments, but I won’t take her to task for her comparison of the palace to Mall of America. MofA is probably her cultural landmark — what she compares large-scale structures to.

What bothers me is her comment about Al Qaeda not showing any signs of letting up. How did she make that observation? Since she didn’t leave the Green Zone, and she didn’t actually talk to any Iraqis, she can only be making assumptions — and those assumptions sound eerily like the talking points the GOP machine feeds to the dittoheads.

How does she know how much of the violence that kept her in the Green Zone protected by body armor is the doing of Al Qaeda? Was she able to peer beyond the fences and see the insignia on their uniforms? Did an Al Qaeda spokesman visit her at the palace and brief her? Or has she merely bought into the official GOP line that ALL violence in Iraq is Al Qaeda?

WHY do we spend taxpayer money to send brain-dead congresspersons to Iraq? Their “observations” are about as valuable to us as Bush’s observation of the Katrina devastation from the window of Air Force One.
