Lugar: White House political briefings were ‘inappropriate.’»

Today in a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) said that the political briefings given by Bush aides to high-ranking diplomats “were probably inappropriate.” The AP notes that Lugar’s statements “were in contrast to White House assertions that the private briefings were not unusual or improper.”

    Talk is cheap, Lugar.

political briefings given by Bush aides to high-ranking diplomats “were probably inappropriate…

    Dick, Dick, Dick, ‘probably’?

    Don’t qualify before you quantify.

Inappropriate is OK descriptors for verbal or physical actions, but this
    administration is killing the planet!

  4. missmolly Says:

So let me get this straight — to get any kind of briefings from this administration you have to be a diplomat? And this is while our Senators are fighting just to get briefings from the Pentagon.

The most restrictive measure of the Hatch Act was brought about by Republicans in the Senate. It dictates that persons below the policymaking level in the executive branch of the federal government must not only refrain from political practices that would be illegal for any citizen but must abstain from “any active part” in political campaigns.

  6. Menehune Says:

How to translate Republican criticism of the Bush Administration:

“Probably” inappropriate = “Certainly” unethical. See also “Possibly” criminal.

  7. squegeeboo Says:

    Inappropriate?

    Were they debriefings instead?

  8. blogenfreude Says:

Lugar talks big, but by his votes he’s a Bush-enabler. Idiot.

  9. RUCerious Says:

And the Pope is “probably” a Catholic.

  10. Perry Logan Says:

    “Probably inapproriate,” he says.

If a Democratic Administration had done such a thing, he’d be howling bloody treason.

  11. Martha Stewart Says:

    Lugar is another Spector.

  12. veritas Says:

Atta boy, Lugar! Cough it up! Cough up the corruption lodged in your throat and admit that your Bubble Boy has been engaged in corrupt activities under the law.

Sen. Arlen Specter, the ringleader of “The All Talk And No Action” wing of the Republican Senate can now welcome its newest member, Sen. Richard Lugar.

I love the qualifying statements made by these individuals who like to talk big and then vote with the criminals. Probably, Perhaps, ostensibly, possibly, purported to be, and the list of qualifiers to make the lie more palatable issues forth from these twisted mouths.

  15. veritas Says:

Badmoonman: Isn’t Arlen Specter the King Sphincter? Sphincter-Specter, tis! He’s been the GOP “front man” like the barker in the side show. He’s all bullshit and no muscle for the purpose he serves. He’s their front deceiver. When they throw him out there, everyone needs to “duck and cover” because he’s the biggest liar and sycophant of them all. Wasn’t Specter involved in the CIA coverup of JFK? Somehow I make that connection to this con man.

  16. veritas Says:

GFD: All of the Dems were chewing the balls off of this administration, let’s face it. Biden functions well in there in keeping everyone honest. The bottom line, however, in the honesty keeping has to be Gravel. All in all, it’s a group of stellar candidates.

  17. veritas Says:

The Dem candidates make the morons the GOP is putting up look like they’re still in primary school.

  18. Leporello Says:

After reading this I’ve realised that Cheney could walk into the Senate with a shotgun, bag his limit of Democrats and walk out, unhindered. Congress has abandoned its oversight activities, the Department of Justise has become a rubber-stamp Republican agency. The 2008 elections will be cancelled and George W. will declare himself President for Life. So long, Republic. Hello, Empire.
This was the proverbial straw that broke the back of even my cynicism.

Upside00: Maybe when we do our new flick (RaygunzRonnie and Dimwit Dubya) we can factor in some cannibalism as well?? Just a thought as it seems to be the new GOP theme here.

  21. veritas Says:

Loperello: Cheney would; after all, he was so tanked that he shot his friend in the face. Maybe he was distracted by his Swiss Miss (Pam Willeford) who was trying to cock his gun for him???? Might be.

  22. veritas Says:

Leptorella: Let’s face it: This government has turned to hammered shit right before our very eyes. I haven’t met on individual in the past 6 months who isn’t absolutely and totally disgusted by the entire lot. I think it’s a good time to “clean house” and sweep them all out of Congress.

  23. Sharon Says:

Welcome to presidente cheney’s land of ooozzzze….dumbass will hand out the bandaid’s to party loyalist’s as soon as he finished his canned speech…Wait, wait for it, he’s working on the word’s the reich wrote for him…Be patient….O.K….Oop’s the battery is dead in his ear piece…Sorry, move along Snow flake will fill ya all in tamarra..LOL…Blessings

  24. Ben Dover Says:

So?? What is Lugar going to do about this? Not a damned thing. Next.

  25. oldtree Says:

Dear Senator Lugar; You are are repulsive fellow these days for trying to look moderate. You know that what you described as inappropriate were in fact, illegal. You should resign due to your incompetence and apparent willingness to obstruct justice and shill for the shooter. No, we do not refer to him as the vice president any longer. He has more crimes on his hands than the NY Mafia now.
And you know this. What an embarrassing thing to find out you have become, well, caught shilling?

  26. tom baker Says:

…though not quite as inappropriate as Lugar’s ongoing squatterdom in the Senate - come on Hoosiers, rid us of this old hack next fall, wouldja??

  28. Devil's Advocate Says:

    Lugar; all talk, no action!

  29. Robert M. Says:

    Inappropriate, hell.

They were conducted in violation of the Hatch Act. They were a crime. They were used to politicize agencies of the U.S. government for the purpose of financial and political gain by an administration that has run amok and shredded the Constitution.

But let’s not talk that way. It’s impolite.
