The New York Sun reports today that Rupert Murdoch once “said he didn’t see what the Palestinians’ problem was.” His son, James, took issue with his father and argued “that they were kicked out of their homes and had nowhere to live.”
Murdoch also asked, “What’s the problem with Iraq? And what’s up with that Darfur business? And why does my son call me Dick? My name is Rupert. And I own the world, and like to start wars and sell newspapers about them.”
Let’s all get together, get some guns, and troop on over to Rupert Murdoch’s house. We’ll claim that his house is our ancestral home, and make him live in a lean-to in the back yard. Oh, and we’ll build a big wall around his little campsite (for his protection, of course).
Maybe then he’ll understand what the Palestinians’ “problem” is.
Maybe then he’ll understand what the Palestinians’ “problem†is.

No, you see, Trip, when you practice ethnic cleansing, apartheid, break human rights, take back economic resources (money, fishing shores, water, food, etc.) from other people and get attacked with weapons hundreds of times less sophisticated by yours, you are a VICTIM, not an AGRESSOR.
Good point, Juan. We’ll give Rupert a slingshot and a good supply of pebbles, so he can take potshots at the guards on his wall. Of course whenever he does, we’ll hit him with tear gas and beat him bloody with truncheons…and then we’ll beat him a couple times because we suspect him of planning more pebble shots…and then we’ll get a kid with a slingshot to stage a false-flag attack against the guards, so we have an excuse to beat him even more severely…
Two Arab ministers have presented Israeli leaders with a regional land-for-peace plan and have called for a rapid timetable for talks with the Palestinians over statehood.
Israel described the one-day visit by the Jordanian and Egyptian foreign ministers on Wednesday as an “historic” move on the part of the 22-nation Arab League.
But Tel Aviv stopped short of embracing their initiative.
The Arab peace initiative offers Israel the normalisation of ties with Arab nations in exchange for full withdrawal from Arab land occupied during the 1967 War, the creation of a Palestinian state and the return of refugees.
‘Sick and tired’
Rula Amin, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in the West Bank, said that many Arab diplomats were concerned that the “Arab initative will not be kept as a whole” but would instead be simply a “talking point”.
She said: “This peace process has been going on for almost 13 years and people are sick and tired of hearing about meetings and negotiations and conferences without seeing concrete results.”
So far no-one here has given a clear explanation of what the Palestinian problem is. If they’d abandon violence, they’d be perfectly allowed to live within the borders of Israel. Any problem they may have is their own making.
and then we’ll get a kid with a slingshot to stage a false-flag attack against the guards, so we have an excuse to beat him even more severely…

And then we will whine about Iran, Syria Lebanon and some others that we dont like, we will not respect 70+ UN resolutions, we will make a military state for own safety, cuz you got to have Rupert on sight, he is so dangerous, we will rape, we will plunder, we will destroy their houses, cause we are the chosen people and we are such good folks.

You know, he’s old. No matter how much money and power he makes and acrues, he can’t take any of it with him. He leaves this earth alone just like the rest of us. I wonder if he has ever considered that in his quest to be all powerful and the richest man on earth (assuming that is his quest). What will he say when he meets his maker??
20. Ah yes…they’d be allowed to live in whatever god-forsaken scrubland that’s left at this point–albeit in a country that pretty much seems to be ALL god-frosaken scrubland. Except that god blessed the scrubland before he forsook it or was it that he forsook it before he blessed it?
We’ll claim that his house is our ancestral home, and make him live in a lean-to in the back yard.
It’s worse than that. Only the southern half of the West Bank and the surrounding parts of Israel was ever ancestral Jewish land. The rest of modern Israel was ancestral Samaritan land – the larger, more populous, more powerful kingdom of the two – hated and excoriated in scripture because they didn’t worship in the temple in Jerusalem, or recognize Davidic succession.
It would be more like claiming that two of your people’s ancient kings once ruled, Rupert’s house, according to scripture written centuries after the fact, and thus it’s yours – regardless of who lived in it then or since.
Its not a talk about land yet , the Arab league are testing the waters , I dare say there will be some consetions on the borders of 67 but at least it might be a start

I have always wondered at the growing hostility toward Neville Chamberlain and the policy of appeasement. Chamberlain did not surrender to Hitler, he did see that the Sudetenland was mostly German-speaking. However, he ended the appeasement policy when Hitler invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia in March 1939 and began to prepare for war. Chamberlain was a competent and effective Prime Minister –even Churchill recognized that. However, in 1940 Chamberlain decided that Jewish migration to Palestine had to be capped at the existing ratio of one third. Churchill & Eden, both imperialists and anti-Arab, declared this also ‘appeasement’ and suddenly Chamberlain was history. No wonder that Arabs, who joined the Allies in fighting the pro-German Ottoman Empire during WWI and were betrayed for their troubles, felt betrayed twice and so thought the enemy of their enemy might be their friend. The West has a lot of explaining to do and it has to be honest about when appeasement is cowardice and when appeasement is justice.

Exactly what the early Americans said about those heathen savage redskins. Repeating that mantra probably helped to assuage their guilty consciences as they distributed the smallpox-infested blankets.
Ringo, do you really believe Israel with the 2nd largest military in the world with the political and miltary back of the largest military in the world would get wiped off the map by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, and Syria. They are in a much better position then they were in 1967 defense wise. They have been bulldozing homes to create new Israeli settlements and killing Palenstians at will for over 40 years. Do you wonder why they may have little rage? Labeling them insane or hate filled does not solve things. Americans would respond in the same way if put under the same oppressive conditions. One Israeli gets killed its front page news in the US over a hundred Palestians get killed it only gets covered in Europe no American press will touch it. Jimmy Carter was right this situation is propaganda for Sunni muslims and there will be no resolution to the middle east without ending this occupation of Palestine. One can not fight terrorism it has no borders put one can end the oppression and marginalization that create terrorists.
Their problem is that they have a legitimate complaint about european z*ists that didnt belong in the middle east using human trafficing to pour huge numbers of foreigners who were racially and religiously bigoted into the middle of their land and pushing the arabs out… if this was done in America we would do far worse than suicide bombings to them to keep our homes. In addition to this the arabs themselves are racially and religiously bigoted… so Truman allowed a bunch of bigots to get mixed in with a bunch of other bigots who have been fighting to this day…
Why does the left care? Because of the original infraction where foreigners entered Palastine and started claiming it as theirs solely because of their religion…even thought they had no large foot print in that area for almost 2000 years.
If the Palastinians stoped the violence would the bigoted Israelis stop squatting on their land? Every year the Israelis move deeper and deeper into colonization… will this stop? America could stop them but who in the world would believe us if we said we would stop it if the Palastinians would stop the violence? Who would believe us any more?
Americans would respond in the same way if put under the same oppressive conditions…

Doesn’t that take away a lot of the argument against Israel – look who they’re up against – a bunch of death-culters.
The advocacy or practice of a form of Islam perceived as authoritarian, intolerant, or extremist; spec. Islamic fundamentalism regarded in this way.
1990 Independent 8 Sept. 15/8 Islamic societies seem to have found it particularly hard to institutionalise divergences politically: authoritarian government, not to say ‘Islamo-fascism’, is the rule rather than the exception.
2002 National Rev. (U.S.) (Nexis) 10 Apr., You cannot deny that a brand of Islam is most certainly at war with us. You can call this brand Islamofascism, radical Islam, Wahhabism, whatever you want. 2005 N.Y. Rev. Bks. 13 Jan. 22/4 Our enemy variously known as Islamofascism, Islamist extremism, global jihad has no rational agenda beyond its desire to destroy the United States out of remorseless, theologically inspired hatred for its values.
It is interesting to note that the second reference is to the National Review. I don’t know enough about the Independent to speculate on their politics, but it doesn’t surprise me to see the National Review coining words to support their own agenda.

I think “death cult mentality” is kind of a loaded and ambiguous phrase.
But I would say, like the IRA in Ireland, or the Native Americans fighting European colonization, there is certainly the idea that one’s homeland is worth dying for.
“Death Cult” is simply yet another term that the Right Wing has come up with to demonize yet another population that they seek to destroy on the DL. It sounds retarded to most, but I bet it scares enough people to make them feel justified in its usage. I think “terrorist” serves this purpose well enough, but what do I know… I guess some people need evil cartoony sounding characters to be afraid of.

Or sniping away at civilians (unarmed, innocent civilians) in Fallujah and similar Iraqi cities.
See, that does sound more effective now doesn’t it? However, I do not rationalize terrorism in any way as you have inferred, but I am left to suppose that you prefer “State-sponsored” to get your own kicks?

So they are what they are, and we just have to live with it?
It’s rational?
This is where we can say NO. It’s not ok! Who’s behind me?
Well, I see this thread has been derailed by the dishonest trolls who avoid the question at hand. Namely, do the Palestinians have a case against Israel? And you bet they do.
Why isn’t Israel a secular state? The US moans about Islamic states and considers it an affront to Freedom. But a Jewish state? That’s okay.
When Israeli settlers were forced to leave, first the Sinai, and then Gaza, the IDF destroyed their homes and businesses. What was that all about? A kind of scorched earth policy?
Why doesn’t Israel just annex the occupied terratories and make all Palestinians citizens? It could work. The reason they don’t is that they’d have to offer justice before the courts to all those Palestinians who have had their land stolen.
Israel is a failed state. I does not meet international standards in the area of human rights. It engages in ethnic cleansing and what would be termed ‘apartheid’ in South Africa. Indeed, many Israeli journalists do call it apartheid.
The idea of a Jewish state is fundamentally misguided. It flies in the face of modern political theory. What is needed is a secular state and a Truth & Reconciliation Commission.
Boy, the trolls sure are obnoxious on this thread.
They chatter on and on and on about nothing! Useless tools!
The Palestinians use suicide bombing to attack Israel because they have no other method with which to retaliate.
If you think it is wrong to attack innocent bytanders in a war (of occupation), be aware that Israel and the U.S. both kill many innocents in our wars. I happen to think it IS wrong, but I also disagree with Israel destroying whole villiages (collective punishment) for the transgressions of a few. Imagine us bombing Timothy McVeigh’s hometown, since they were the ones ‘harboring’ him!
What Israel is doing is ethnically cleansing the Palestinians from the land.
Now, all you ‘tough’, right-wing warmongers:
If some group comes and steals land that you and your family own, and have lived on for hundreds of years do you slink off quietly, or do you fight? Well, the Palestinians (some of them anyway) have chosen to fight, is that so hard to understand?
As a proud Liberal, I support the right of Israel to exist, BUT NOT IF THE PALESTINIANS ARE GOING TO BE EXPELLED.
Comment by Thrasymachos — July 25, 2007 @ 5:21 pm
Answer A: Well, that depends on the definition of “definition”, then.
Answer B: It was intended to be a link to a word describing your contribution to the thread which would have, in turn, given you ammo to expose another “hypocritical lefty” being insensitive to the cultural differences of those with mental challenges; however my ommission of the actual link ends up making me the “retard”, so I digress.
Now back on topic:
r,
“We agree – Terrorists are bad. Individual or state.”
Excellent! So you are now denouncing the state sponsored terrorism of Israel against the Palestinians or the Americans against Iraqis.
For a man with no allegiance to any one government or country, it’s probably fair to say Murdoch simply doesn’t understand. For everyone else, however, this should be a no-brainer. Imagine instead of Palestine, the mass exodus of Jews were relocated to Texas. Think a few Texans might be upset about losing their land?
So they are what they are, and we just have to live with it? It’s rational? This is where we can say NO. It’s not ok! Who’s behind me? Anybody?
Comment by r — July 25, 2007 @ 5:33 pm
“Rational” does not equal “it’s ok and we have to live with it”.
“Rational” means they’re doing it for a reason. The problem lies with finding what that reason is, and doing something about it. Thinking that all of them are killing themselves just because “they’re evil” is stupid and useless and will get you nowhere closer to a solution.
Terrorism is not ok. No one is arguing otherwise. Appeasing terrorists is not ok, either. I’m pretty sure no one here loves Al-Qaeda or cheers for bin Laden, as some trolls have claimed.
Killing all muslims to end the terrorist acts of some of them, is not ok. Blowing up buildings with civilians inside of them, just to get an enemy or two, is not ok. “Acceptable losses”, aren’t. “Collateral damage” is not ok, and will only augment the problem.
I had a cultural geography professor say once about the common complaint that Palestinians must be crazy because of the suicide bombings well, ” if they had missiles they would use missiles.” Palestinians in their current state see no future for them or their children thus it is seen as a justification for the bombings. I think it shows the resilency of the people to not embrace Hamas and its tactics in the face of Israeli agression for 40 years until this year. I’m not pro-Israel and I’m not pro-Palestine but I do believe that it is finally time for Israel to lead as they are the most dominate physical presence of the two countries. This does not mean surrender but perpetual war enslaves both sides.
Just to answer on of the “very minor points that seems to be a real hot buttonâ€, I read that the Israelis destroyed the homes and shops on their way out to reduce the potential cover for potential attacking (rocket firing) Palestinians.
It was a security issue – not a petty spite issue.
Comment by J Lewd — July 25, 2007 @ 5:48 pm
If only the Jews history had been in Texas instead of the Middle East. Guess god didn’t plan that one too well.
What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?
Gandhi urged the British to surrender to the Nazis, and recommended that instead of fighting back, both Czechs and Jews should have committed mass suicide (death wish, anyone?). In 1946, with full knowledge of the extent of the Holocaust, Gandhi told his biographer Louis Fisher, “The Jews should have offered themselves to the butcher’s knife. They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs.†http://www.endgamethebook.org/Excerpts/25%20-%20Pacifism%20I%20pt3.html
Gandhi urged the British to surrender to the Nazis, and recommended that instead of fighting back, both Czechs and Jews should have committed mass suicide (death wish, anyone?). ”
That would have also followed the teachings of Christ (turning the other cheek) and would have potentially led us away from the situation we currently find ourselves re: the Middle East. Can we get you on record calling Jesus and idiot?
No, Ghandi was a pacifist and morally consistent in his pacifism. Unlike, for instance, “right to life” supporters who encourage war and the death penalty.
I don’t recall the passage where He says “Turn the other cheek unless there are more than on of you, then you can kick their ass.â€
Comment by J —
Nice.
I’m always fascinated to watch a wingnut try to rationalize the teachings of Jesus into an argument in favor of war. You can always count on them to bring in Matthew 10 and the “sword” he brings as a rationale for violence.
Killing all Muslims to end the terrorist acts of some of them, is not ok. Blowing up buildings with civilians inside of them, just to get an enemy or two, is not ok. “Acceptable lossesâ€, aren’t. “Collateral damage†is not ok, and will only augment the problem.
Comment by Luis M — July 25, 2007 @ 5:51 pm
Don’t get a big head, but you’re the most reasonable person I’ve encountered here. You probably don’t belong – joking.
The last para intrigues me the most, “Killing all Muslimsâ€. We agree that there’s no point in that. We didn’t have to kill all Japanese or Germans. It’s the “bad ones†that we need to kill. But to counter your point, I think the reason we don’t win wars anymore, is we don’t make the enemy realize that its options are Unconditional Surrender or Death. And if that involves civilian populations as it did in WWI and WWII. That’s war.
I hope that doesn’t make me a bad person. The end of WWII wasn’t pretty. We dropped the stinkin’ Bomb! for crying out loud But at least we won.
Saying that you are not anti-Jew, just anti-Israel is like saying, †I don’t hate the French, I just hate Franceâ€.
Comment by Ringo
Its nothing like that. Jew != Israel… Israeli = Israel… Jew = race/religion.
And you expect us to take you seriously?
Israel didnt exist until it was artificially created in the 1948… So until there were people born under that flag there was no such thing as an Israeli… Rome dispersed the Israelis 2000 years ago. The NEW Israelis were born in the 1950s on… Some of these Israelis are arabs and not Jews at all. Which makes the NON democratic nature of Israel stand out even more because they call it a Jewish state as if all others are less than them… ie they disagree with “All men are created equal” which is a central understanding of the American style democracy.
Don’t get a big head, but you’re the most reasonable person I’ve encountered here. You probably don’t belong – joking.
Heh. Give me time, I’m new here.
But to counter your point, I think the reason we don’t win wars anymore, is we don’t make the enemy realize that its options are Unconditional Surrender or Death. And if that involves civilian populations as it did in WWI and WWII. That’s war.
Well, here’s where we disagree. The war against the Talibans was something pretty much well defined: get the Talibans to surrender. Same thing with the war against the Regime of Saddam Hussein.
But I think the fight against Al Qaeda is not a “war” that can be won by military means. How will you know that you can stop shooting and dropping bombs on the population? There’s never gonna be a white flag of surrender; there’s never gonna be a way of knowing that no one in the whole country belongs to Al Qaeda; there’s never gonna be a point in time when the US can say “Ok boys, pack it in, we’ve won, let’s go back home”.
What it takes is international cooperation, investigation, finding ways to remove Al Qaeda’s means of funding and recruiting terrorists.
And… to get back to the topic… the Israel-Palestine situation has been used, and will be used, by Al Qaeda, as an excuse to recruit more followers. Fix the situation (somehow… ) and you’ll be hurting the Al Qaeda organization as much as by blowing them up in the hills.
Sorry… I messed up the tags in my latest post… it was supposed to be a quote by Zoom in, and my reply to that quote.
But to counter your point, I think the reason we don’t win wars anymore, is we don’t make the enemy realize that its options are Unconditional Surrender or Death. And if that involves civilian populations as it did in WWI and WWII. That’s war.

Comment by gummitch — July 25, 2007 @ 4:29 pm
That’s an east one, gummitch. Conflating the STATE of Israel with the RELIGION of Judaism allows those who want to see a STATE continue with illegal, immoral and internationally disdained actions to use a RELIGION as a human shield to cover for their crimes.
Israel = A sovereign country with a large population of Jews
Judaism = An ancient religion with members around the entire world.
Israel =! Judaism
Judaism =! Israel.
Get that through your feeble little talking points, trolls. Conflating Israel with Judaism is lazy, intellectually dishonest, and is used as a means of ending a conversation without actually discussing the issues on their merits. Just like conflating Islam with radical Islam.
But, you never hear these bloviating trolls conflating Christianity with radical Christianity, now do you? Why? Because then the meme can be pushed that America = Christianity and Christianity = America. But Americans simply wouldn’t stand for it, so that meme is simply…ignored.
Israel has defied international law. Repeatedly. More than any country in the world save Turkey. No country has disobeyed more UN resolutions. No other nuclear power in the world has been safer from inspectors and oversight of their nuclear weapons program. Many Jewish people love the country of Israel, but despise what those currently in power in the country are doing. Self-hating Jews? No, Jews who hate what a STATE is doing, not a RELIGION.
So stop trying to push such an idiotic meme, you silly little bridge-dwellers. It makes you look dishonest, lazy, and hateful. Oh, wait…
I think the Palestinians are their own worst enemies, followed by the Israelis. The Palestinians supported Arafat and the PLO for decades, though he resisted peace initiatives and was utterly corrupt. Even when they could see that Arafat’s greed had bankrupted their society, they didn’t try to throw him out; that is, the Palestinians who didn’t actually support him.
Also, the Palestinians have never seriously tried non-violence. Clever use of it before the world’s press could have Israel out of the West Bank and Gaza in a year or less, but the Palestinians have embraced violence, terrorism, and even suicide bombing; suicide bombers who kill children are lionized as martyrs, and many Palestinian kids are brought up thinking that suicide bombing is the greatest possible accomplishment. There were many Palestinians who thought 9/11 was terrific — dancing in the street and handing out candy to the kids; I don’t know of that happening in any other Arab nation.
Not to mention Jew-hating that would make Himmler blush. Palestinian schoolbooks refer to Jews as monkeys, pigs, unhuman, etc. Think Israel would support racism like that, or would get away with it?
But the biggest problem the Palestinians have is their victim mentality; they will not examine their own faults and weaknesses as long as they can blame the Israelis for all their problems (see “alcoholic behavior”). A friend of mine was recently in the airport for the Gaza strip. Beautiful, modern, a showcase. The bathrooms were great, except there were no electrical outlets anywhere. Bit of a metaphor for Palestine by the Palestinians.
When you write things like “…we will rape, we will plunder, we will destroy their houses, cause we are the chosen people and we are such good folks,” you put the lie to your insistence that it’s the Israelis, or the Israeli right, that you hate. Also, the Israelis who want the West Bank and Gaza don’t want it because they’re the chosen people; they want it because after more than 2000 years of massacres, pogroms, dispossessions, inquisitions and genocide, they don’t want to live at the mercy of other people any more.
Imagine that in the U.S. there were people whose land was taken and who often responded with terrible violence, even toward women and children. Would the U.S. behave better than Israel? Why not go up to the Pine Ridge reservation and ask? While you’re there, you can apologize and give them back your house and land.
I think your logic is a little flawed. Let’s try this thought experiment:
Let’s suppose YOUR ancestral homeland was stolen by a people who claim that God gave them that land.
Then, they round up you, your family, and all the others in the area and put YOU in concentration camps. You are no longer allowed to freely travel in your own country: you are now a second class citizen. Would YOU give up your land gladly to those who stole it, or would you fight? If you said you’d fight, well I guess you’re no better than the Palestinians, right? It might not matter to you that those who took your land did so because they are escaping persecution, or whatever, all you know is that your family lived on the land for generations, and now your whole life has been destroyed.
Yes, America did similar things to the Native Americans, but, we are not currently engaged in ethnic cleansing, if we were, then we would be discussing it! We gave the Indian Nations their own reservations, where (for the most part) we have let them be. And no, I don’t think that the Indians were treated fairly, but I don’t see the US government continuing to bulldoze Indian houses, building walls around/thru the reservations, etc, etc.
Yes, the Palestinians are wrong to use suicide bombers to kill innocent people, but Israel seems to kill a lot of innocent Palestinans.
Yeah, what’s up with them?

July 25th, 2007 at 3:33 pmTODAY Arabs push Israel for final talks

July 25th, 2007 at 3:46 pmI have always wondered at the growing hostility toward Neville Chamberlain and the policy of appeasement.

July 25th, 2007 at 4:04 pmTheir problem is that they have a legitimate complaint about european z*ists that didnt belong in the middle east using human trafficing to pour huge numbers of foreigners who were racially and religiously bigoted into the middle of their land and pushing the arabs out… if this was done in America we would do far worse than suicide bombings to them to keep our homes.

I think “death cult mentality” is kind of a loaded and ambiguous phrase.
But I would say, like the IRA in Ireland, or the Native Americans fighting European colonization, there is certainly the idea that one’s homeland is worth dying for.
July 25th, 2007 at 5:00 pm“Death Cult” is simply yet another term that the Right Wing has come up with to demonize yet another population that they seek to destroy on the DL. It sounds retarded to most, but I bet it scares enough people to make them feel justified in its usage. I think “terrorist” serves this purpose well enough, but what do I know… I guess some people need evil cartoony sounding characters to be afraid of.

July 25th, 2007 at 5:36 pmWell, I see this thread has been derailed by the dishonest trolls who avoid the question at hand.
July 25th, 2007 at 5:37 pmBoy, the trolls sure are obnoxious on this thread.

July 25th, 2007 at 5:51 pmI had a cultural geography professor say once about the common complaint that Palestinians must be crazy because of the suicide bombings well, ” if they had missiles they would use missiles.” Palestinians in their current state see no future for them or their children thus it is seen as a justification for the bombings.
July 25th, 2007 at 5:52 pmI wonder if Murdoch doesn’t know because Fox doesn’t report on it from the Palestinian perspective or they don’t report on it because he doesn’t care.

Its nothing like that. Jew != Israel… Israeli = Israel… Jew = race/religion.

Well… that’s what I think, anyway.

Israel =! Judaism
Judaism =! Israel.
Oh, wait…

Comment by FLACO — July 26, 2007 @ 12:43 pm
That’s funny (and ignorant). There are millions of people who would disagree and could point it out to you on a map.
July 26th, 2007 at 1:43 pmI think the Palestinians are their own worst enemies, followed by the Israelis. The Palestinians supported Arafat and the PLO for decades, though he resisted peace initiatives and was utterly corrupt. Even when they could see that Arafat’s greed had bankrupted their society, they didn’t try to throw him out; that is, the Palestinians who didn’t actually support him.
July 26th, 2007 at 3:21 pmAlso, the Palestinians have never seriously tried non-violence.
Describe the borders for Palestine?
When were the borders established and by who?
See it never existed only in your mind libtards…
July 26th, 2007 at 3:30 pmReply to #226:
