Murtha proposes new redeployment bill.

By Faiz Shakir on Jul 25th, 2007 at 3:42 pm

Murtha proposes new redeployment bill.

Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) said today that he will soon propose legislation that calls for troop withdrawals from Iraq to begin in November and take about a year to complete. “This is big time,” Murtha told reporters of the upcoming war debate in September. “When you get to September, this is history. This is when we’re going to have a real confrontation with the president trying to work things out.”

UPDATE: More from Murtha:

“I’m hearing signals. They (Republicans) are trying to work out a deal where we leave 70,000 troops over there … That’s the White House telling them to do that, I’m convinced,” he told reporters.

Good luck – we all know the Bushies will veto anything that limits the amount of Iraqi and soldiers blood that they can bathe in.

  2. Roger_Roger says:

According to Murtha, the dems have not had a real confrontation with the President yet? “DO NOTHING CONGRESS 101″

  3. shane says:

Where’s the troll that claimed Murtha wasn’t interested in working on ending the war anymore the other day?

    OT

Here is another way Bush is fu*king this country.

I am not sure why you brought up the 110 Congress in a post about Murtha, but there is a real disconnect with your post. but, then again, when isn’t there a disconnect with you and everything.

  6. Ben Dover says:

I thought we were going to have a “real confrontation” with the president right after we took control of the House and Senate?? Maybe I misread that in our script. Yawn.

  7. SGT Higgins says:

“When you get to September, this is history. This is when we’re going to have a real confrontation with the president trying to work things out.”

I’m encouraged….but not holding my breath. He’s already built a trap-door escape in talking about it already:

we’re going to have a real confrontation with the president —-That probably turned some heads.

trying to work things out.” —- What? Wait a second, that sounds like capitulation and/or negotiation. What happened to the ‘real confrontation’?

Great idea John, but you gotta see it through.

What does September have to do with anything? Sure the pukes said “Wait until September!”, but that was three months ago. What we are looking at is the rolling six months, just give it six more months and things will be better.

Until the petulant, cowardly punk is out of office, along with the rest of the Repugnicunts. Then they will whine that we were winning the war but the weak Democrats gave up the fight.

And how many more lives and limbs will be sacrificed to that little man’s ego? Come on Bush, show the world you are at least as strong a leader as Adolf. Pull that trigger buddy!

    Double dare you.

  9. Miro says:

And unfortunately, things will not work out by “trying to work things out”. The only thing that will work out is impeachment or not impeachment.

  10. Zoom in says:

I thought there weren’t enough votes for redeployment.

And I thought there weren’t enough votes for impeachment either?

    Did something change?

September will come and go, and everybody who said “wait until September” will develop amnesia.

The only thing that will make September an attractive time to evaluate our Iraq situation will be a terrorist attack in this country in August. Which scares me — the Bushies need one so badly.

  13. tarazan says:

Does this apply also to contractors…?

  14. Roy Eidelson says:

From a psychological perspective, the Bush administration promoted the misguided and destructive war in Iraq by targeting five core concerns that often govern our lives–concerns about vulnerability, injustice, distrust, superiority, and helplessness. Looking ahead to September and beyond, the continuing occupation of Iraq–or an attack on Iran–will likely be sold to us in much the same way. I examine these warmongering appeals–and how to counter them–in a 10-minute YouTube video entitled “Resisting the Drums of War” available for viewing at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81UKnb5zJbM.

  15. Tobey Tall says:

in December when the UN mandate runs out, and the Iraqi Parliment has the right to vote on whether US troops stay or go, NOT just Maliki

the way things are with the Iraqis at the moment, US troops will be asked to leave

in order to stay – troop levels will have to be reduced to 70,000

Does he think this will get him past the indictments pending against him?
we want them out now, you aren’t listening, you are fired

  17. Zimzone says:

Mr. President, would you like some cheese with that whine?

  18. CowTown says:

What? Murtha again? What he should do is make more of his spurious accusations that our troops are murdering Iraqis, except this time blame all 150,000 of them.

They can then be arrested, brought home, thrown in prison and finally executed. Problem solved, the troops are out of Iraq.

  19. Green Uni Guy from Star Trek says:

Come on Murtha, have another meltdown about your fellow Marines killing everyone in sight.

Hey spuzzboy, how you doing today? Spit on any soldiers this morning?

  20. celtic cynic says:

Methinks the “redeployment” should consist of incumbent politicians and boot-licking pentagon clowns (and their families) sent to that hellhole to replace our troops, one for one.
    That’s fair, isn’t it?

  21. RUCerious says:

Bush at this point reminds me of Steve Martin at the end of the movie ‘The Jerk’.
All he needs is his legacy, 70,000 troops still in harms way, Mrs Nussbaum’s credit card, …

  22. Guy Fawkes says:

If Murthas manages to have his bill passed by the House, then Bush will veto it and bloggers here will again claim that we have a “Do Nothing Congress.”

  23. Marie says:

We can withdraw all the troops and there would still be 150,000 contracted mercenaries in Iraq.
People seldom mention that the mercenaries in Iraq outnumber the enlisted.

Doesn’t it also have to get passed by the Senate before it goes to Bush? Just asking…

So irrational and pointless, it kinda defies belief.

    True, just like this:

Methinks the “redeployment” should consist of incumbent politicians and boot-licking pentagon clowns (and their families) sent to that hellhole to replace our troops, one for one.

So, who do you think is telling that to Hillary? The DLC? Or the White House? Is there a difference?

  29. Dave says:

Simple question to anyone running for office. Do you want the troops to stay? No dancing just anwser the question.
