According to a new Washington Post-ABC News survey, “65 percent of Americans disapprove of Bush’s job performance, matching his all-time low.” Only Nixon has “exceeded that level of public animosity,” hitting 66 percent four days before he resigned. Bush has “endured bad numbers” longer than any other president besides Harry Truman.

The Post also notes, “Around the White House, aides make gallows-humor jokes about how they can alienate their remaining supporters — at least those aides not heading for the door.”
The goal is within reach! You just have to want it BAD enough!
July 25th, 2007 at 10:53 amOnly Nixon has “exceeded that level of public animosity,†hitting 66 percent four days before he resigned.
Give him time. Chimpy still has a year and a half in his presidency, and he’s not one to step down. In that respect, he actually succeeds in making Nixon look good.
Hang on tight, kids….things are going to get a lot worse before they start to get better.

July 25th, 2007 at 11:09 amThe interesting question is not how high the disapproval will go – if it goes higher, it’ll be because he’s alienated the far-right authoritarian base.
What’s interesting is how deep the disapproval goes, especially among independents. Sustained high general disapprovals will probably add depth to the loathing this country feels for this guy – and only a fool thinks that won’t rub off on his party, which is, by virtue of its base, incapable of doing anything but cheerleading the positions that made the rest of the country so vigorously disapprove of him in the first place.

Your “Bush is the worst president in history hysteria” is way overblown. Especially when you compare Bush’s numbers to Trumans (who history has treated kindly).
Bush, like Truman, has decided to tackle tough problems instead of handing them off, for someone else to do the heavy lifting.
Apparently, by the looks of Clintons numbers, the surest way to popularity, is to do nothing of consequence.

July 25th, 2007 at 11:24 amArab League delegation visits Israel
JERUSALEM – The foreign ministers of Egypt and Jordan began a historic visit to Israel on Wednesday to formally present an Arab peace plan, saying they were extending “a hand of peace” on behalf of the region.
The ministers arrived as representatives of the Arab League, the first time the 22-member group has sent a delegation to the Jewish state. The Arab League peace plan envisions full recognition of Israel in return for evacuation of lands captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
“We are extending a hand of peace on behalf of the whole region to you, and we hope that we will be able to create the momentum needed to resume fruitful and productive negotiations” between Israel and the Palestinians and the rest of the Arab world, Jordan’s foreign minister, Abdul-Ilah Khatib, said at a news conference with Israeli President Shimon Peres.

FFS write to the Franklin mint if you want and encourage them not to put his head on plates. Apart from that the only goal here is apparently to remind you bunch of goldfish WTF you forgot from 48 hours ago when you were last told.
Seriously you have this same post 3 times a week, get a hundred or so comments on every one and I’m yet to see any of em say “no shit, tell us something we don’t know”.

He is upbeat and unconcerned. A former Reagan official warns of Marshall law and detention of citizens in the wake of some unspecified catastrophic event. A REAGAN official. I am not particularly paranoid but their own people have been hinting to us to get ready. Recent Executive orders to confiscate the property of those who interfere with the Iraq war (you know, like say you want us out of Iraq) could lead to large numbers of arrests at demonstrations.
July 25th, 2007 at 11:35 amWe have conferred with neighboring (to Iran) states about our future plans for invading Iran. That’s why they ain’t worried. Plan “B” is about o be implemented. They will not give up power easily, or willingly.

July 25th, 2007 at 11:44 amEven some lefties refuse to see what’s happening. Yesterday a guy called into the Ed Shultz Show and told him about Bush’s Executive Order to freeze the assets of individuals who threaten destabilization efforts in Iraq. Ed Shultz told the guy to stop reading those fringe websites and HUNG UP on the caller!!!!
Apparently, even Ed Schultz has his head in the sand and soesn’t beleive this can happen in our country!!! I’m amzed there are still people who talk from the left who are too freaking afraid to COMPREHEND what these guys in the WHite House have planned for this country.

July 25th, 2007 at 11:50 amSenator Feingold has a website he’s involved with that is soliciting comments from citizens. I wrote about my concerns with the recent executive orders. I understand the Congress has thirty days to challenge such orders, but I am not clear on the law. I hope Senator Feingold checks this out and does something other than offer a censure resolution.
Today I will contact my own (Fla) reps about this.
If you adjust the figures for apathy, Dubya’s already won.
In the summers of 1973 and 1974, it seemed like everybody in the country was paying attention to the unfolding of the Watergate scandal. The three major networks rotated gavel to gavel coverage of Senate hearings and House Judiciary Committee discussions of impeachment, and people watched. 66% of Americans disapproved of Nixon’s performance, and this was from an INFORMED populace.
Today, more people care about Melinda Doolittle being voted off American Idol than they care about high crimes and misdemeanors from the White House. Yet, even with this complacency, Bush has still managed to garner a 65% disapproval rating. Imagine if he was being rated by the Americans of 1974!
July 25th, 2007 at 11:53 amEd is a centrist, has some progressive leanings, but can be a real ass at times.
July 25th, 2007 at 12:00 pmHanging up on a caller who brings up the executive order qualfies as ass-centric.
I just feel helpless. I read ALL of the blogs including the rightie blogs. The information about what’s planed for us is there (damn, just look up the PNAC!!) but most of the people in this country are sleeping. They don’t want to know what’s happening. The obvious truth is the ONLY way Bush will ever get out of being so hated is another terror attack which the White House and press are saying is imminent!
Yesterday I watched the Senate hearings and was so angry. However, the CBS Evening News didn’t even make it one of their top 5 stories!!
Katie Couric ran a 45 second brief (and didn’t even tell us Gonzo LIED THROUGH HIS TEETH) and went on to some derogatory story about the Democrat presidential candidates. I used to like her but now I despise that stupid broad and the corporations that pay her enormous salary!
Then we have Ed Schultz hanging up on callers when they try to relay legitimate information to him!! WTF? Writing to our representatives doesn’t do one bit of good. They aren’t reading our letters or listing to thier voicemail. They’ve either been blackmailed or threatened to ignore us.
God help us!
July 25th, 2007 at 12:04 pmI recognize Schultz as a centrist. However, he is now pushing for Impeachment so I thought we might depend on him to let callers give him (and other listeners) pertinent information.
Anybody ever wonder why even the left wing broadcasteres never mention the PNAC?

12 ¶ And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
17 ¶ And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

July 25th, 2007 at 1:02 pmPaul, your comparison of Bush to Truman is strained at best. Truman was unpopular for a variety of reasons – the middle and right hated him because he fired the most popular military General next to Ike at the time. The left was angry with him because he had dropped two a-bombs on Japan at a time when they were attempting to surrender and incinerated Dresden. But, remember please that people admired him personally because of his blue-collar background and his motto, “The Bush Stops Here.”
Bush, by comparison, is disliked or reviled because he is personally responsible for the biggest military and strategic blunder in the last 50 years. He is disliked because, unlike Truman, he will not step up and accept responsibility for mistakes and, unlike Truman, he presides over lawlessness and disrespect for the consitution. Truman, by comparison, was brave enough to insist on war profiteering investigations even when his own party ran Congress and the Presidency. He is also seen as visionary by many because he advocated extending Medicare to all Americans.
Bush isn’t even close to Truman’s league.
July 25th, 2007 at 1:03 pmI’m sorry, Truman’s motto should have read “The Buck Stops Here.”
July 25th, 2007 at 1:04 pmYou know that poll from a couple of years ago that said Daily Show viewers were more informed than etc.
It was this years.
Rush Limbaugh listeners and Fox news near the top.
Bill Oreilly viewers near the bottom.
Followed by people who read news blogs.
Someone decided to post that here as though it reflected worse on Bill Oreilly.
July 25th, 2007 at 1:05 pm#70 And why should we care about any of that? I don’t pay attention to any of them, other than for a few laughs.
Back on Topic, OK? This is about Dubya’s implosion.
And do you and Paul still have your Bush/Cheney04 stickers on your pickups? Most of your ilk have secretly scraped them off and have denied ever voting for him!

To think Bush is so low and the Democrats don’t have the balls to impeach. What a bunch of spineless cowards they are.
DEMOCRATS ARE COWARDS!!! They won’t even push for impeachment when Bush is lower than Nixon!!! LOL!!!
July 25th, 2007 at 1:26 pmSkip Chapter 17 for now. I Will have to Explain that one later.
July 25th, 2007 at 1:27 pmFor now, We MUST GET OUT of America, Before The Great Earthquake.

And all this time I thought the 7th angel was Lindsey Lohan!!
July 25th, 2007 at 1:40 pmRemember folks, these numbers have impact on just one important group; those Republicans in Congress running for re-election. In order to remove Bush and Gang from power you must have the votes in Congress. Without a number of Republicans it won’t happen.
The trade-off is loyalty to Bush vs getting re-elected. I am sure Bush and his people are keeping up the pressure on Republicans in Congress by telling them not to hurt the Party, but at some point the Republicans up for re-election are going to start thinking that it might be better for the Party to just get rid of Bush than keep him in place.
The poll numbers are like a disease spreading out from the Whitehouse can contaminating Republicans. At some point, Republican members of Congress will understand that they have to remove the cause of this disease before they also are infected.
Hint: start sending these poll numbers to any Republican running for re-election and do so each week. You don’t have to write a letter or anything with the poll, just send the numbers.
July 25th, 2007 at 1:41 pmGod Help Us: “They won’t even push for impeachment when Bush is lower than Nixon!!! LOL!!!”
Nixon’s wasn’t impeached, but resigned instead because it became clear to him that Republicans in congress were going to go along with an impeachment. Even though there are arguably many more reasons to impeach this president, Republicans have made it clear that they will not cooperate. Democrats are smart, not cowardly. Why even proceed with an impeachment hearing which has no chance of succeeding?
July 25th, 2007 at 1:42 pmSluggo, the other thing Democratic stratigists must do is use the Republican obstruction as an election tool. Every voter should be told that Republicans blocked healthcare for children as a political move to deny Democrats any legislative victories in congress. Every Republican trying to keep his office should be asked by voters why he voted to obstruct a measure which would help children with healthcare.
July 25th, 2007 at 1:45 pmNote that even in his worst days, Bill Clinton ranked highest of all the Presidents listed.
It’s going to be so glorious to see Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Bill O’Reilley’s (et at.) heads explode!!!!
HILLARY ‘08!!!!!!!!
July 25th, 2007 at 2:26 pmOne thing’s for sure, Limbaugh’s drug addictions are causing his brain to melt, and this one example from the supposedly “brilliant” political commentator should forever discredit this Chickenhawk & media whore
Rush Rips The NY Times For NOT Being Wrong
If Limbaugh is so wrong about something as basic as a politician at the national level’s race, that forever brands him as the most easily-debunked of W’s media lackeys/whores
But I’d be remiss in not thanking Rush for making such vicious sport of Michael Fox’s Parkinson’s Syndrome, after all, that’s what gave Claire McCaskill her Senate seat, and with it, Dems control of the Senate
“Mission Accomplished” Indeed!
July 25th, 2007 at 2:55 pmThe WP and TP is caught spreadingt lies again. According to Gallup, Jimmy Carter has the lowest approval rating was 28%. Much lower than Bush.
