Fox News On Arabic Culture School: ‘Al Qaeda Is Coming Soon To A Classroom Near You’

Yesterday, Fox News’ Hannity & Colmes did a segment asking if the Khalil Gibran International Academy, the first New York City public school “dedicated to the study of the Arabic language and culture,” is “a breeding ground for radicals.”

As Fox rolled footage of the 9/11 attacks, Sean Hannity asked if the New York Board of Education was “blurring the line between the separation of church and state” by using “tax dollars to fund an all Muslim school. ” After displaying banners with “Islam 101?” and “Funding Fatwa?,” Alan Colmes introduced the segment by saying, “Coming soon to a classroom near you, Al Qaeda!” Watch it:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2007/07/schoolbrooklyn.320.240.flv]

In reality, the school is open to “students of all racial and ethnic background,” not just Muslims, and its curriculum is “not religion-based.” According to the New York Board of Education, the academy will offer “a standard college preparatory curriculum, with separate Arabic language instruction,” and special emphasis on the “the history and contributions of the Arab people.”

Hannity also suggested that instruction of reading and writing should precede lessons in Arabic culture and history. “Once we teach kids to read, write and math then we can expand out?” But like the more than 60 other dual-language New York public schools, which “focus on cultures as diverse as Creole and Chinese and Russian,” the Khalil Gibran International Academy will teach Arabic culture while simultaneously preparing students for the “rigorous New York State Regents Examinations.” As the National Association for Bilingual Education points out, “English-speaking students who learn a second language routinely do better in school and get better jobs.”

And if the above segment is any indication, then the school’s mission, to “embrace of New York City’s growing Arab population and of internationalism,” and dispel “the stereotypes” of Arab Americans, is all too relevant.

A Muslamoid training camp coming to your neck of the woods. As the lefties claim, it's good for diversity.

    Good.

FOX should inform the American people about the Arab agenda.

Wow.... this happened a few days ago when Colmes read off the prompter that Biden's strategy was "cut and run" and like this, followed it up with "Well I wouldn't call it that."

  7. bilbobaggins Says:

Now that's a smart idea. Discourage a school that will be teaching people the language of the people we are supposed to hate. That way we will never be able to talk to them and since we won't be able to talk to them, we won't ever be able to problem solve. That will leave no alternatives other than war. It's the Republican way.

The camps are here in San Diego; I do not think it is correct. But, In fact I am in favor of public schools being in standard uniforms. I know most here will be against it ( remember, I am aware of our rights), but I think it will go a long ways to discipline and less gang problems.

  10. Troll Says:

This is wrong. They will exclude non-arab speeking students. That is racist.

A brand new nation of Arab supremacy, fostered by lefty cruds.

According the left, we shouldn't be in the middle of a civil war in Iraq. Instead, we should be channelling our energy to dealing with the one they're seeking to create here.

Plllease. What a foolish arguement. Offer arabic as an alternative to spanish in a regular public school if this is yopur concern.

  14. Krazny Says:

Can't really deny the school though, since a number of other cultures receive similar funding. I actually think, that if someone wants their child in a specific cultural type school it should be private, and not publicly funded. Just my thoughts.

No, it is not rascist. But it will indoctrinate non-Arabs with pro-Muslim propaganda!

#8- I know. It's like #1, 2, & 3 didn't even read it. And, I think when we finally have competent leadership (after '08), they'll utilize a few, good, red-blooded Americans that can read and write the language of those that want to harm us all.

Where does it say they will exclude non-Arabic "speeking" students?

Gee, Hannity, much of reading, writing and math we inherited from Arab culture, they're not necessarily all that separate. But you wouldn't know that because apparently you're an idiot, as are some of these other trolls commenting here.

Hey Troll, try reading the whole story before you spout off your big mouth. You may (note I say may) be taken a little more seriously if you do. Here's the part you missed:

In reality, the school is open to “students of all racial and ethnic background,” not just Muslims, and its curriculum is “not religion-based.” According to the New York Board of Education, the academy will offer “a standard college preparatory curriculum, with separate Arabic language instruction,” and special emphasis on the “the history and contributions of the Arab people.”

Even the stupidest person should realize that, even if you only want to interpret intercepted conversations or documents, there is an advantage in actually being able to understand the language.

LibTeenie: "George Washington couldnt possibly have conceived that the liberalism he referred to would ever encompass what is supposedly liberal in today’s America."

This is a standard argument today's conservatives make when confronted with the shocking liberalism our country's founders displayed in their words and actions. No, sorry, most of the Founders were believers in the philosophy of The Enlightenment. Washington was dead set against merging church and state. He had a healthy suspicion of organized religion. Although most people think of him as a Deist, there is a strong argument to be made that he was an athiest. He believed in the power of working people pooling their resources to create civil government and that government should serve the interests of the people, be completely transparent and "provide for the public welfare." Although the British were routinely torturing Revolutionary soldiers and their supporters, Washington would allow no mistreatment of British prisoners. If he were to show up at a current Republican debate, he'd get booed off the stage.

True. However, I think we can handle a bunch of frightened children. We need to be cautious and vigilant. But reason will triumph.

  166. Mr. President Says:

Khalil Gibran International Academy assigned reading:

The Arabian Peninsula has never -- since Allah made it flat, created its desert, and encircled it with seas -- been stormed by any forces like the crusader armies spreading in it like locusts, eating its riches and wiping out its plantations. All this is happening at a time in which nations are attacking Muslims like people fighting over a plate of food. In the light of the grave situation and the lack of support, we and you are obliged to discuss current events, and we should all agree on how to settle the matter.

No one argues today about three facts that are known to everyone; we will list them, in order to remind everyone:

First, for over seven years the United States has been occupying the lands of Islam in the holiest of places, the Arabian Peninsula, plundering its riches, dictating to its rulers, humiliating its people, terrorizing its neighbors, and turning its bases in the Peninsula into a spearhead through which to fight the neighboring Muslim peoples.

If some people have in the past argued about the fact of the occupation, all the people of the Peninsula have now acknowledged it. The best proof of this is the Americans' continuing aggression against the Iraqi people using the Peninsula as a staging post, even though all its rulers are against their territories being used to that end, but they are helpless.

Second, despite the great devastation inflicted on the Iraqi people by the crusader-Zi0nist alliance, and despite the huge number of those killed, which has exceeded 1 million... despite all this, the Americans are once against trying to repeat the horrific massacres, as though they are not content with the protracted blockade imposed after the ferocious war or the fragmentation and devastation.

So here they come to annihilate what is left of this people and to humiliate their Muslim neighbors.

Third, if the Americans' aims behind these wars are religious and economic, the aim is also to serve the J000s' petty state and divert attention from its occupation of Jer000salem and murder of Muslims there. The best proof of this is their eagerness to destroy Iraq, the strongest neighboring Arab state, and their endeavor to fragment all the states of the region such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Sudan into paper statelets and through their disunion and weakness to guarantee Israel's survival and the continuation of the brutal crusade occupation of the Peninsula.

All these crimes and sins committed by the Americans are a clear declaration of war on Allah, his messenger, and Muslims. And ulema have throughout Islamic history unanimously agreed that the jihad is an individual duty if the enemy destroys the Muslim countries. This was revealed by Imam Bin-Qadamah in "Al- Mughni," Imam al-Kisa'i in "Al-Bada'i," al-Qurtubi in his interpretation, and the shaykh of al-Islam in his books, where he said: "As for the fighting to repulse [an enemy], it is aimed at defending sanctity and religion, and it is a duty as agreed [by the ulema]. Nothing is more sacred than belief except repulsing an enemy who is attacking religion and life."

On that basis, and in compliance with Allah's order, we issue the following fatwa to all Muslims:

The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies -- civilians and military -- is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy mosque [Mecca] from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim. This is in accordance with the words of Almighty Allah, "and fight the pagans all together as they fight you all together," and "fight them until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah."
    ...
    ...
Almighty Allah also says: "O ye who believe, what is the matter with you, that when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling so heavily to the earth! Do ye prefer the life of this world to the hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the hereafter. Unless ye go forth, He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place; but Him ye would not harm in the least. For Allah hath power over all things."

Almighty Allah also says: "So lose no heart, nor fall into despair. For ye must gain mastery if ye are true in faith."

I don't want to lump them all in one group, but tell me: why is the left suddenly on a surcharged, giddy path in a post-9/11 area to rub Islam in the face of Americans? Why do they insist we learn their language for "a globalized society" when it should clearly be limited to those interpreters/language specialists serving in Iraq and at the CIA? What's the sudden obsession all about? Why constantly bash Americans who don't want to buy what you're trying to sell?

No, you're wrong about that. Edmund Burke was not a firm believer in the views of The Enlightenment. He believed that there should be a small set of elite running things and that the masses were too stupid to know what was best for them. The Father of the modern neocon movement, Leo Strauss, believed that "special gentlemen" should be running things and that these special men should tell "noble lies" to the masses to achieve the proper ends. This is the opposite of how the founders of our country believed things should happen.

  202. gummitch Says:

Some more from JFK's speech in 1960, in addition to that posted earlier. The full speech is available at http://tinyurl.com/3yfvvl

I believe in human dignity as the source of national purpose, in human liberty as the source of national action, in the human heart as the source of national compassion, and in the human mind as the source of our invention and our ideas. It is, I believe, the faith in our fellow citizens as individuals and as people that lies at the heart of the liberal faith. For liberalism is not so much a party creed or set of fixed platform promises as it is an attitude of mind and heart, a faith in man's ability through the experiences of his reason and judgment to increase for himself and his fellow men the amount of justice and freedom and brotherhood which all human life deserves.

This is what liberalism is, rather than the twisted caricatures posted by the trolls.

Shifting the definition of liberalism and conservatism is one thing that "conservatives" do when it's obvious their belief system is bankrupt. "You're not real liberals!" in order to discredit what is, in fact, a straight line from the Age of Reason to modern progressives. "You're not a real conservative!" they whine to someone like Bush, when they've spent the last six years telling everyone what an incredible conservative he is -- except now he's obviously a huge disaster in office.

I know another private who really only enjoyed driving Bradley Fighting Vehicles because it gave him the opportunity to run things over. He took out curbs, concrete barriers, corners of buildings, stands in the market, and his favorite target: dogs. Occasionally, the brave ones would chase the Bradleys, barking at them like they bark at trash trucks in America--providing him with the perfect opportunity to suddenly swerve and catch a leg or a tail in the vehicle's tracks. He kept a tally of his kills in a little green notebook that sat on the dashboard of the driver's hatch. One particular day, he killed three dogs. He slowed the Bradley down to lure the first kill in, and, as the diesel engine grew quieter, the dog walked close enough for him to jerk the machine hard to the right and snag its leg under the tracks. The leg caught, and he dragged the dog for a little while, until it disengaged and lay twitching in the road. A roar of laughter broke out over the radio. Another notch for the book. The second kill was a straight shot: A dog that was lying in the street and bathing in the sun didn't have enough time to get up and run away from the speeding Bradley. Its front half was completely severed from its rear, which was twitching wildly, and its head was still raised and smiling at the sun as if nothing had happened at all.

I didn't see the third kill, but I heard about it over the radio. Everyone was laughing, nearly rolling with laughter. I approached the private after the mission and asked him about it.
"So, you killed a few dogs today," I said skeptically.
"Hell yeah, I did. It's like hunting in Iraq!" he said, shaking with laughter.
"Did you run over dogs before the war, back in Indiana?" I asked him.
"No," he replied, and looked at me curiously. Almost as if the question itself was in poor taste.

That line can be drawn in many directions no matter how straight it is it is still a deviation from a particular point.

The liberals and “progressives” of the democratic party have strayed from the liberalism of the enlightenment no matter how badly you desire for that not to be true.
To deviate from liberty (left or right) is to head towards tyranny which is exactly what they have done.

    Comment by Troll

Look around you and particularly look at the current administration. The people who are deviating from liberty are the ones running the executive branch these days, not the liberals. You’re just so blinded by your shallow worldview that you can’t see it.

Prey is correct. It is what you do. And just think you were not bright enough to realize that I used it that way on purpose.

Typical of you out of touch folks with no sense of humor or understanding of satire. But then "religious" hypocrits have no sense of humor 'cause they aren't allowed to by their "religion". Oh, I'm wrong about that. You can chuckle at the jokes in the Readers Digest. But not too loudly, hear?

As I replied earlier, I'm not the one with the Goth problem. I just despise punks in general. Try to keep track of who you annoy. You may find it's more satisfying.

Oh, about that "homo" crack (no pun intended) that's one of my problems with Christianity. If you actually read about Jesus you will notice a few things. He is one of the few Biblical characters who never begot anything. He dressed in robes and sandals. He hung out with hookers and never got laid. He "loved" all twelve of his disciples. And his "homo hating" dad allowed him to be tortured to death. Connect the dots.

Look, when your basic communication language consists of unintelligible sounds like these:

    heYooooooooooooooooooooooooooooO!
    and this
    heyoooooooooooooooooooo00000000000000

there definitely is a problem. But we have formed a study group and have begun to research the meanings. We are looking for funding under the "faith based initiative" program pushed by Prez. bush. We expect the money to arrive very soon.

In some cases we believe that these sounds represent a form of primitive religious song or preyer. All the trolls here seem to understand these sounds and seem to communicate with each other using them.

    Stay tuned for further developments.

This must be Top 40 radio, 'cause the hits just keep on comin'!!!!

  419. The Oracle Says:

Now, let me get this straight.

We're short of Arabic-language and Arabic-culture speicialists throughout the federal government. The CIA. The FBI. The Green Zone over in Baghdad. Among the ranks of our soldiers who are fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan.

One would think that a school opening in New York that admits all students, no matter what their "racial or ethnic background," would help us in our fight against radical Islamicists.

Some of the students graduating from this New York school, once they pass a security background check, will go into public service and might actually help thwart any terrorist attack against us, because they were able to read some intercepted communication between members of al Qaeda.

Only some reactionary idiots at Fixed Noise would think that training people in a language that could help stop a terrorist attack is bad. Meaning once again that these reactionary idiots at Fux News are actually advocating a course of action that endangers U.S. citizens and our national security.

When I served years ago in the U.S. Air Force Security Service, we had a special section out in California that was dedicated to training USAFSS personnel in foreign languages. Russian. Chinese. Arabic. To name just a few languages being learned. Because, you see, high schoolers might take Spanish, French, German or whatever, but hardly any ever learned these languages essential to our fighting the Cold War.

So, this NY school is a good idea. And as long as the school doesn't turn into a "madrassas," at which some radical Islamicists spout their hate-filled rant, then having this school training potential future defenders of our democracy, in the language and culture of the Islamicists out to destroy all things democratic, is definitely an essential weapon in our arsenal.

Which just makes me wonder how insane one really has to be to work at Fixed Noise?

Fort Hamilton High School and Stuyvesant High School also teach Arabic.

So much for the language need not being met. Which was the arguement of many here.

The appointed principal has made some alarming comments and has been associated with radical groups and causes.

The advisory council is comprised of all religiously affiliated individuals.

    There is cause for concern.

  439. Adam Schifter Says:

1: Khalil Gibran last I checked was a Christian in fact his father was a Maronite Catholic priest. So to hate this school you must hate Jesus.

2: Arabic is just a language that the US does not have enough citizens who are fluent in. There are Japanese immersion pulic highschools also in Virginia and MA. Do you also think this is a Buddist threat?

  440. Jimbo Says:

Apparently, Hannity (and a good many of the commenters) don't know the difference between an Arab and a Muslim. Read a book! In fact, the US government is offering plenty of money to university students for the study of Arabic, Pashto and other languages in the hope that, in the next war, we have more than 3 people who understand the language and culture. This is a useful program that is being sensationalized and distorted by the ignorant.

  441. Bjobotts Says:

Some of these sniffling prejudiced, biased comments are the same ones who would do away with black history curriculum as being used to start a civil war. I am no more afraid of Muslims being taught in America as I am Spanish, African. German or Whites.
If you've ever lived in NY then this is no big deal. Islamic fascism is not the curriculum, and you idiots posting the fear "Muslims are coming to get us" is as stupid as believing in the boogey man.

"Now the left is supporting terrorists here in our own country with public money"....OOOOHH. I mean really, no one is doing any of that stuff and your opinions are sophmoric. There are no Americans walking around saying they want to support or fund terrorists or doing or promoting anything to help kill Americans(in spite of the fact that Bush's policies are accomplishing this all on their own...It's not intentional..I hope)
The first comments I read here remind me of low lives sitting around looking for something to shoot at...but freedom in America includes tolerance of the mentally challenged with open mouths and keyboards. No real thought beyond fear, accusations and malice, who's egos have convinced them that their comments are insightful, especially after 3 or 4 beers.

  442. bjobotts Says:

Jesus Camp: How to make children schizophrenic and emotionally delusional through authoritative intimidation and fear based politics. Synonymous with Brainwashing, before a mind is old enough to see what is being done to it. "Extreme" indoctrination pushing away the need or ability to think for ones self. Jesus Camp run by Jesus Vamps.

Better that a milestone be tied around his neck and he be thrown into the sea....

"I want these children to be as faithful as the muslim children carrying machine guns when they are five who are willing to die for Christ like they are for Muhammad ". (Of course she meant willing to kill for as well as die for...)

Sorry guys, I'm just not that kind of King.

  443. JL Says:

We are slowly securing Baghdad and other provinces. The surge is working. Daily terrorist attacks have decreased.

    Comment by Daryll

I'm confused. It's possible that I don't understand, because I'm not an American... But it seems to me that the consensus of American opinion is:

People of Muslim background destroy an American landmark = Muslims are the terrorists.

America invades a Muslim country - that appears to have little (if any) connection with 9/11 - and entirely cripples their economic, political, and social structures = Muslims are still the terrorists.

There's something very absurd about the most powerful nation on earth suffering from a victim mentality - and carrying a massive chip on its shoulder to go with it.
