Iraq soccer bombing shreds hope for unity.

A widespread love of soccer is “one of the few things that unite Iraqis across ethnic and religious lines,” seen in how “violence dropped to unusually low levels as Iraqis sat transfixed through the nail-biting match.” But barely two hours after the game ended, two suicide car bombs exploded “amid throngs that poured into Baghdad’s streets after the Iraqi national soccer team edged South Korea to reach its first Asian Cup final. Police said at least 50 people were killed and 135 were injured.”

Yeah… great going, inviting all of those Jihadist barbarians over there. When the average Iraqi on the street says that things were better when they were ruled by Saddam Hussein, you know you’re screwed.

  10. david says:

Strange. I have a curious feeling it’s the Pentagon behind these bombings. It has always been Bush policy to maintain a permanent presence in Iraq. That can’t happen if the country becomes stable. And a stable Iraq would most certainly fall under the influence of Iran. So, I see the dirty work of the CIA and the Pentagon in many of these bombings.

Because there is no relationship between suicide bombers and the presence of an occupying army, apparently.

Someone who has actually studied the motivations of suicide bombers over 25 years has determined that 95% of them are “nationalist insurgents with a secular, strategic goal: ousting the military forces of democratic countries from land the insurgents believe is theirs. ”

Take away the occupiers and the suicide bombings cease.

While this event underscores the facts around the failed surge, check this out:

The scale of the exodus of refugees fleeing violence in Iraq has prompted a “humanitarian crisis”, a conference in Jordan has heard.

More than two million Iraqis have left their war-ravaged homeland.

The UN says about 50,000 more people leave Iraq each month, mostly to Jordan and Syria which want international help to ease the burden on their services.

The UN refugee agency says the mass displacement is threatening the region’s stability.

It says the wave of displacement sparked by the war in Iraq is the biggest in the Middle East since 1948, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled the newly created Israel…

HYPOCRISY is the reason that most Americans do not get that Iraqis are no different!

  43. FLACO says:

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Iraqis, brought together in a rare moment of unity by their soccer team’s success in the Asian Cup, said defiantly on Thursday that bombs would not deter them from supporting their country in Sunday’s final.

Thousands of them poured onto the streets after Iraq beat South Korea on Wednesday to reach the Asian Cup final for the first time, but suicide bombings that killed 50 people in Baghdad cast a pall over their jubilation.

The bombings were a sharp reminder of Iraq’s unrelenting cycle of sectarian violence between majority Shi’ites and minority Sunni Arabs.

But many fans, though war-weary, said they would not be cowed and would turn out to support their team in the same fashion when Iraq meet Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

    B) If we leave, which group or groups do you think are going to take over?
I’ll give you a hint.. do you know who makes up the majority of the country? ..Shia do….they are the ones who are going to take over (even more)..when we are gone.. you think the Shia blew up the soccer crowd?

  49. Jackie says:

Well at lease the Iraq Government can read about it as they are on vacation and out of danger. The Iraq people need a leader who will Dictate to all groups and that new Leader should be George W. All the media stations give a bright out look to what the White House tells them to say. It’s so safe it’s like an American Mall. Yet with the pictures of the dead and the GOP visitors wearing bullet proof vest with hundreds of guards I wonder how many people in America shop with that type of protection.

Whats hes saying is he can understand why these extremists do what they do..

Just because you say you understand why someone does something, doesnt necessarily equate to support…
