“So far, only Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) have agreed to participate” in the Sept. 17 CNN/YouTube debate for the Republican presidential field. Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, “both with dozens of videos on their YouTube channels,” have indicated they will not attend. Yesterday, Romney confused YouTube with Myspace, saying, “YouTube is a website that allows kids to network with one another and make friends and contact each other.”
Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney are pathetic cowards. They talk tough when it comes to “the terrorists” but can’t face the heat from ordinary Americans who might call them on their abject bullshit.

July 27th, 2007 at 11:45 amDid either Giuliani or Romney get a look at the videos on their YouTube channels? Is it that they can’t answer these questions?
And I see that Romney is about as in touch with pop culture as Dan Quayle was.
July 27th, 2007 at 11:47 amRomney also said he has three internets in his house, all connected with tubes, which he believes are powered by hamsters tirelessly running on a wheel.
He also believes that before Jesus ascended into heaven, he took a detour to Missouri.
July 27th, 2007 at 11:48 amRomney and Giuliani are afraid of being outed during a You-Tube debate. They are frightened of being exposed as filthy hypocrites.
July 27th, 2007 at 11:49 amHow out of touch is Rombo?

July 27th, 2007 at 11:52 amThat does not work well with ‘You Tube’ questioning.
They are accustomed to easy questioning by networks prepared for soft landing for them…

July 27th, 2007 at 11:54 amTo be fair… you CAn network with other people and make friends and contact each other on YouTube as well. They have a messaging system, and you can set up your own page.
But I know, I know. Mitt was thinking MySpace anyway.
—-
Maybe they are afraid CNN will ‘attack’ them by playing only videos from people who will ask questions to make them look bad. They may think CNN wants to do to Republicans what Fox wants to do with Democrats all the time. They may think, like a lot of Republicans do… that CNN has a ‘liberal bias’.

The network that hosted it would just say “hey, they weren’t our questions”. In a real debate, the moderator has some responsiblity. In this format — none. They are right to bail out on this.

Britt Hume, brown nosing sycophant for corporate interests, especially privitizing Social Security. Like the Church of Bob says, “A Rogue Subgenius”, much in the mold of Horowitz and Dennis Miller. These were the people in the 60s who went to Woodstock for “the naked babes”, but now are Wall Street Investors and Corporate Lawyers.

It was a good debate. They used creativity when asking serious questions. You have to remember there were more than 1300 video questions submitted, and CNN chose the 38 videos to present.
July 27th, 2007 at 12:10 pmCowards. Both of them are totally superficial and lack any substance. They look good behind a camera. They only have confidence as long as they have their cue cards and their lines memorized. Especially Giuliani. If he doesn’t have 9/11 to hide behind, he doesn’t have anything to talk about. I can see where this format might be to big a threat to expose them both for the frauds that they are.
July 27th, 2007 at 12:11 pmMittuns & Rudi are missing the debate because Rudi is in a woman’s fashion show & Mittuns likes to watch.

July 27th, 2007 at 12:13 pm“Serious” questions are easy for these candidates, because their teams can pretty well write them in advance, and coach the candidates on the correct response. Since neither of these meatheads is capable of thinking on their feet, there’s no way they will put themselves in a situation where they have to do so.
Whether YouTube is a reasonable venue isn’t really the issue, rather it’s the inability of McCain and Romney to answer questions that come from the proletariat unscripted.

July 27th, 2007 at 12:33 pmThe GOP gets hit from every angle
Yeah right.
Mayor Giuliani, how do we get back to Ronald Reagan’s “morning in America”?
Senator McCain, most of the public pessimism today has to do with Iraq. How — what would you need, as commander in chief, to win the war in Iraq?
Do you need anything beyond what the president has now to win the war?
Recent polls in the Islamic world reveal a sea of hostility toward the United States, feeding what General Petraeus calls the central front of al Qaeda in Iraq.
How do we win this war if every dead terrorist is so easily replaced?
Governor Huckabee, I’d like to get your views about how you balance loyalty and accountability. Would you have fired Don Rumsfeld before last November?
This is a question for Senator McCain. It’s along those lines of intervention.
Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson said that Iran has already committed acts of war. Do you agree? And secondly, as part of that, what’s your trip wire for a U.S. strike in Iran?
I could go on and on here, but where is anybody asking anything but powerpuff questions, like I said, saber rattling, bible and chest thumping, that’s about it.

There is a strong possibility that the answer is “no.”

America needs to have a strong leader these days, again, “no.”

July 27th, 2007 at 12:52 pmThe first Youtube debate was stupid. It was the same questions that would have been asked by a moderator, but by crazy americans instead.
It was a total gimmick. If they had selected the videos randomly, or allowed people to select/rate the questions it would have been much better.
FFS they had a question about gay marriage asked by a lesbian couple… seriously… why?
July 27th, 2007 at 12:53 pm#99 – that’s crap. You want conservatives in jail – Karl Rove, Libby – you would clap if Cheney died.
#98 – no, it is liberals who kill. You kill babies in the name of choice. I just fund right-wing candidates to stop that murder. But I am sure, if you had your way, you would stop that too.

But ask them how their candidate knew building 7 was going to collapse because of fires on two floors.
Ask them why Guilliani stopped the body recovery process after they got the Swedish Gold and silver out of the vaults.
Ask them why Guilliani wasn’t in the emergency command center bunker in building 7 when the towers fell.

No I want people who break the law in jail the same as I would support the Democratic senator from Louisana going to jail if convicted of bribery. The law does change because of the political affliation of the person charged.

July 27th, 2007 at 1:00 pmRudy is busy fundraising and Mitt is just stupid. Now McCain has a chance to tell voters why he lied to the Tillman family about Pat Tillman being murdered. Yes Pat Tillman was murdered by a sharpshooter who killed him with two bullets to the head. I guess McCain is more loyal to the White House then he is his State. Fred Thompson would only allow people to know how stupid he is when he opens his mouth. Mitt might have a makeup, nail and hair appointment at that time. Mitt doesn’t know anything but he wants to look good while making an ass of himself.

Why did the highjackers passport survive the crash into tower 1; and the fire; and the collapse; and was “found” in the rubble when the pants pocket it was in, did not?
Why would the highjacker place his “will and testimate” in a bag that he was taking on the plane with him, that was conviniantly found at Logan airport?

By The Left Hates our Troops — July 27, 2007 @ 12:32 pm
Cheney’s hatred for all things constitutional and democratic has already burned us and the rest of humanity. Cheney’s hatred for our form of government — you know, the one with three co-equal branches, a system of checks and balances, separation of church and state, the Bill of Rights and the rule of law, the one that has sustained us for roughly 230 years, the one that was created “of the people, by the people and for the people” — burns us every day this administration remains in power and will continue to burn us for a long time to come. Cheney will be remembered alright, just like all the other despots of the world have been remembered — long and well and with intense loathing. Cheney has sown hatred; he will reap the same.
July 27th, 2007 at 1:35 pmThis discussion is all well and good. Except “We the Sheeple” may not have an election in 2008. July 27th, 2007 at 3:27 pmThe YouTube format is a totally dumbed down, worthless, piece of s*** format. EVERYONE should avoid it.
Idiotic white guys who present their questions by singing songs, moronic questions about the blackness of Obama, etc … what a waste of oxygen and airwaves.
July 27th, 2007 at 3:35 pmIn a real debate, the moderator has some responsiblity. In this format — none. They are right to bail out on this.
Comment by Cynicon Implant — July 27, 2007 @ 11:55 am
The point you miss is that there are no “real” debates anymore. My initial reaction to the YouTube idea was cynical – pop culture gang banging the process.
I’ve rethought that position. Because modern “debates” are so staged, with plastic politicians, fake moderators, and brainless MSM analyses, the YouTube forum at least allows for something outside of that box.
I’m no fan of dimwit anarchy often found on YouTube, but the processed, pasteurized, homogenized packaging that serves as political process today requires an infusion of democracy any way we can get it. If YouTube provides that injection, I’m all for it.
Of course, this would be terrifying to Republicans who live in their own little world, disconnected from external realities.
I think you are also wrong in implying that the “moderator” here has no responsibility. The YouTube submissions are certainly filtered.
Would I prefer are REAL debate? Sure. Wake me up from cryogenic freeze the next time that happens.
July 27th, 2007 at 4:23 pmI can’t wait until Hillary has to answer the real tough questions, like, “Do you believe that your husbands johnson is going impede your quest to the White House, again?’. Or how about, “Mrs Rodham Clinton, will you be selling sleep overs in the Lincoln bedroom as your husband did, and if so, how much, considering how well the economy is doing?”.
Republicans at least will answer questions and have questions asked of them about terrorist and terrorist attacks. They didn’t even mention the attacks on England. Not one question in the last two Democratic debates about Islamic Terrorist, in case you didn’t notice. Ignore them Hillary. Ignore them Obama. They might go away if we don’t mention them. You hardcore lefties are pulling this country so far left that you are actually helping the the middle of the road voters. Keep going as far left as you can take her, freaks.

July 27th, 2007 at 4:37 pmThe farther left you go, the better. In fact, demand your candidate tell all voters where he/she wants this country to be in twenty years. If your a socialist, say your a socialist. Don’t be afraid and hide. You want higher taxes and more goverment, let us know…wait their already doing that, go farther!!! You want to imprison anyone who does not think like you, put those neocons in jail! This country was founded on freedom of speech, let “The Fairness Doctrine” begin! Down with anybody who questions the left ever again. Teach their children that unprotected sex is good, and A.I.D.S. is nothing to worry about. That way, fewer neocon babies will exist. “If your a socialist, say your a socialist. Don’t be afraid and hide.â€
Don’t be ridiculous. You guys have been using the “socialist†thing to scare and confuse the American people into believing that liberals in this country are the same as socialists/communism.
“You want higher taxes and more goverment, let us knowâ€
Conservatives have taken this to an extreme under the bush administration. Higher taxes and more government are no longer just for liberals! ;-)
“You want to imprison anyone who does not think like you, put those neocons in jail!â€
No, we want to see some sort of justice in this country. The constitution has been trampled on and conservatives have been running around acting as if the law doesn’t apply to them, and so far they’ve gotten away with it.
“This country was founded on freedom of speech, let “The Fairness Doctrine†begin! Down with anybody who questions the left ever again.”
Questioning the left is all you people ever do. Go for it, now we’re questioning you too, and exposing your hatred while we do it.
“Teach their children that unprotected sex is good, and A.I.D.S. is nothing to worry about. That way, fewer neocon babies will exist.â€
This statement could only be made by someone on the extreme right. This is crazy talk and is exactly what we want you guys to keep doing. Show us some more how crazy and outlandish you can be.

Little Johnny, whose mind seems to be in the john, it’s your dear president and vice-president who have been putting people in prison without charges. I love how you neo-cons complain about lack of “freedom of speech,” while TP freely allows you to post here, but several of the progressive/liberals here have been banned for trying to do the equivalent on redstate.
