In other words, all is going to plan.

Remember, the last thing this administration wants is an competent, effective, and independent Iraqi government, all their pontificating notwithstanding. What they want is a failed state that will justify their perpetual occupation.

They’re making decisions and projecting insults based on anger, but they fail to see how bad the problem really would be if they don’t allow us to finish the job. U.S. forces are attempting to bring peace to them. The Iraqi’s need to be held to greater account so that can happen.

Maybe you can help explain how it is that the left (and its not just the left, but I digress) wants to leave Iraq, you characterize it as us not caring about the Iraqis when, in fact, this is double think at its finest.

Why is it that you only pretend to care about other people when it can be used as a talkingpoint to support your dubious goals? That is a notable difference between us, while it is the mission of the left to serve the best interests of the people.

You say that we are there to help Iraqis yet you do not give them the credit to know what is best for themselves while nearly 80% of them recognize that our presence there is fueling the violence and they want us out. What makes you think that you know what is best for them? Why do YOU not support the Iraqi people and their collective wishes? Please answer this question or at least stop pretending that you care.

In addition, as lame as it is, you will never catch me complaining about you bringing Bill Clinton up every chance you get because I am sure I will still be talking about Bush for years to come. “Cannot we stop pissing on the trolls and discuss the failures and lies of the Cheney/Bush administration?”

True. Lets start at the beginning… Now why is our military in Iraq? I still haven’t had that explained to me yet.

What I’ve gotten from this thread is that it has something to do with Clinton and Rwanda.

  185. RUCerious says:

Yes, Egg, we are in Iraq because the Bosnian Rwandans will follow us here…

  186. Jeremy says:

Yeah, I guess, though we’ve hashed that out enough already. Failures and lies of Cheney/Bush? He’s had 6 years of unfettered access to this country’s manpower and materials, turned his head the other direction while AQ started its final preparations to strike New York and DC, started a war in Afghanistan with no intention to finish it, switched to his real goal, Iraq, after botching catching the bastard that hit us, introduced whole new layers of bureaucracy and cronyism in the federal government that came to a head in August of 2005 with the absolute destruction of an American city in his watch not by terrorists but by Mother Nature herself (and it’s not like she didn’t give plenty of warning…I shudder to think of the response time to a terrorist attack), and got his party beat in 2006, and only now is starting to be checked like he should have been since 2001.

    Summed it up good enough?

The trolls, however, are part of this. We hear the talking points day in and day out from these fools about how 9/11 isn’t Bush’s fault and how Iraq is a part of the War on Terror. We know these fools get their talking points from sources on high. While I don’t think people like Mr. P are actually on Karl Rove’s payroll, I do think he reads conservative blogs and talking point sources (Drudge Report, Redstate, Fox News, etc), and spews their bull$#!+ on TP. The “Clinton Responsible for 9/11″ meme was originated in August of 2001, as intel made it abundantly clear that something was going to happen in the late summer/early fall of 2001. We’ve got to keep in mind that these people lie, lie, lie some more, push their memes out into the public discourse, keep lieing, attack the character of those that disagree with them, and in general keep pushing until their memes are as big a part of society as memes that preceded them. The people running the show (for whom our trolls mouthpiece for) are extremely smart and are not concerned with morals or ethics in the slightest. Memes are powerful if they’re allowed to run unchecked into society. The lightest version of a meme? Well, remember the big craze about ‘All Your Base are Belong to Us’ a little ways back? Now, imagine getting ‘Clinton was behind 9/11′ out there like that AYBABTU line? It’s happening as we speak.

Don’t think that just because the stated goal of pacifying and democratizing Iraq failed that this administration is a failure. Their goals have not failed. We’re closer to the dream of Unitary Executive today than in most, if not all of our past, and the real goal of creating never-ending conflict is so close to completion that it’ll take great people to pull us off from the brink, and our current leadership will fight every step of the way, tooth and nail, to keep from being pulled back from the brink. The trolls are just another Cheney/Bush method of lying out there.

So, the Iraq government isn’t meeting the 18 US imposed benchmarks. I say, more power to em. Personally, I see the Oil law as degrading and I bet the Iraqis do to. I suspect the Iraqi parliament is trying to run out the clock. The Yanks can’t expect to stay past December and so it will be a whole new ballgame in 2008.

    HEy!!!

    You didn’t mention Rwanda!!!!

    Get lost, kid!!!

  189. War4Sale says:

Now that sounds like “last throes” doesn’t it, Dick?!

  190. Martin Gifford says:

“Iraq is in the throes of its worst political crisis since the fall of Saddam Hussein…”

On 14 May 2003, John Howard, Australia’s fearless leader said:

“Not only was the military operation completed quickly and successfully but it is also worth recording that all of the doomsday predictions… were not realised. The decisive victory of the American led coalition reflects enormous credit on the strength and the determination of the leadership of President Bush.”

    D’oh!

  191. Probus says:

The surge has clearly failed. The Maliki government has not come through on any of its promises. There is no oil law. Allowing more Sunnis into the government has not taken place via the de-baathification process. The militias and death squads have not been disbanded. While we have American forces dying in Iraq everyday (100+ a month) the Iraqi government is taking a vacation. That is unacceptable. While our soldiers are taking IEDs and dying and getting injured the Iraqi government is taking a vacation?

Bush, Cheney, Rice and everyone else in this administration have said that Iraq has a political solution and not a military one so where are we having a surge at all? Our brave troops have done all they can. It is time to bring them home. The surge was supposed to give a chance to Maliki to make political progress, he has not done that. The surge has clearly failed. The republicans who stand up against Bush don’t have the courage of their convictions. They didn’t vote to end cloture in the all night debate that recently took place in the Senate. Except for 4 republicans all of them voted with the president. They continue to support a policy they don’t believe in. A policy they know is wrong.
