Center for American Progress military expert Lawrence Korb testified before the House Armed Services Committee this morning, challenging escalation proponents to have the courage of their convictions and call for a draft if they would like the surge to continue indefinitely.
One right-wing Ohio Congressman, Michael Turner, desperately tried to smear Korb during his question and answer period. Turner started off his smear attacks against Korb by questioning his credentials to speak before the panel:
TURNER: I was looking at your bio…that incorrectly I believe referred to you as Doctor Korb. And you do not have a PhD.
KORB: I do.
TURNER: You do have a PhD?
After humiliating himself once, Turner next turned his guns on Korb’s prepared written testimony. “I’ve not seen citations like this before the committee,” Turner said, noting that Korb referenced research sources in his statement. Korb said he provided the citations for the lawmakers as a reference point for more information. He noted that Gen. Jack Keane, a co-panelist, “did not have any footnotes. His were all opinions.”
After falling flat in his numerous stabs at Korb, Turner moved onto the next smear. Taking a comment made by Korb completely out of context, Turner asserted that you’ve told us “you’re not a military expert.” Korb responded:
I’ll put my record in terms of scholarship, in terms of analysis of war in terms of military issues up against anybody.
Watch it:
After propagating his false smears, Turner refused to allow Korb time to answer and attempted to flee the committee room quickly. Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) told Turner to sit down and listen to Korb’s response.
ThinkProgress contacted Turner’s office for comment on the incident. Andy Bloom, communications director for Turner, told us that Turner has never served in the military and has no substantive military experience. Asked if Turner was participating in a coordinated effort to smear Korb, Bloom said, “I can’t be certain.”
Turner is a classic “chickenhawk,” a term used to refer to strident war proponents who have never personally experienced war. Korb, on the other hand, is a Navy captain who served in Vietnam. He has served in the Pentagon, taught at the Naval War College and Coast Guard Academy, and has twice traveled to Iraq. He recently returned from a 10-day visit to Baghdad (see his dispatch here).
If you wish to contact Turner’s office, you can do so here.
UPDATE: Commenter Midwest Product fine-tunes the definition of “chickenhawk”: “A chickenhawk is someone who ascribes the bravery of soldiers in wartime to themselves because they take a pro-war position.”
So another Republican congressman puts on a public display to prove that he is a dumb jacka*s. Aren’t they all?

Oh, and can someone tell Congressman Turner that pro wrestling is fake, too?

This is completely false and requires immediate correction. It is entirely possible for a non-soldier to advocate war without being a chickenhawk. A chickenhawk is someone who ascribes the bravery of soldiers in wartime to themselves because they take a pro-war position, not someone who simply argues for war without fighting in it. Pretending that supporting the war is as courageous as fighting it is the hallmark of the chickenhawk.

Yes, if they were afraid of something. But it loses its ironic tension. “Chickenhawk” makes fun of strutting idiots who pretend to be what they’re not … while pissing away lives in the middle of nowhere for nothing.

Since I am a veteran I wouldn’t know, but if you are a rabid supporter of war and never served and do not plan to, then yeah you are a chickenhawk.
Chickenhawks should never be in a position to make decisions on something they don’t know a f*cking thing about.
July 27th, 2007 at 4:40 pmThats why the VA is so f*cked up right now, chickenhawkers that never really gave a damn about veterans
Actually, endorsing a military campaign that one can’t or won’t fight in doesn’t make one a Chickenhawk, that happens when the person endorsing a military campaign-without fighting in it themselves-slams critics of that same military action as cowards or enemy sympathizers
July 27th, 2007 at 4:41 pmThat is the ohio rethug party in a nutshell.
July 27th, 2007 at 4:42 pmThe chickenhawk roll of dishonor:
http://www.awolbush.com/whoserved.html
July 27th, 2007 at 4:43 pmRingo, simply criticizing somebody for their opposition to the war doesn’t make anybody a chickenhawk. What makes you a chickenhawk is when you accuse someone of being cowardly or unpatriotic for opposing a war you enthusiastically support, when you yourself have never served a day in the military.
Which describes, for instance Krazy Kurt Weldon, a former GOP representative in Pennsylvania, who was opposed by retired Navy Admiral Joe Sestak. Weldon repeatedly tried to smear Sestak’s military credentials, while he himself never served one minute in our country’s armed forces. Hilariously, Weldon even tried to assert that his service as an occasional volunteer fireman was equal to serving in the military. All of which is why I contributed to Sestak’s WINNING campaign.
And because of Turner’s bravo jackass performance, I’ll be contributing to whoever his opponent is.

He went out of his way to say hello to me. (I had no idea who he was at the time) He introduced himself, and was a very kind and well spoken (and tall) gentleman.

July 27th, 2007 at 5:05 pmThis invasion would end if the draft started. All the supporters of the war would turn they back on Bush/Cheney. It takes real men and women to join and serve in the Military. At lease Cheney could hold classes on how to get 5 deferments. Bush could give a press conference to tell all the friends and supporters of his criminal policies that they have executive privilege from serving in the Military. Mitt did the right thing by having his rich Father get him out of serving. Bush is still his Mommy and Daddy’s little baby boy and only the bottle helps the pain. It’s not just relevant to someone who has never fought in a war but also for someone who won’t fight in a war yet still clamors for everyone else to do it
As if to say as long as it’s your kid and not mine that must fight and chance dying then I’m all for it. That’s chickenhawk talk too!

I have noticed this on Republican websites. They usually have one called “The War on Terror”. I guess that they think that Iraq is included. Personally I think it is because they are afraid of Iraq and what it is doing to their popularity and chances for re-election.

Although I retired from the Army in 1983 and will be 69 in 4 days, I am heeding President Bush’s call to join the surge and fight “evil” in Iraq. I have good skills. In Vietnam I fought in the middle of a civil war, was ambushed, had friends killed by IEDs and was on the receiving end of rocket and mortar attacks numerous times.
Because I am overage, and need a waiver to return to active duty, I will appeal directly to President Bush with this letter.
Dear Mr. President,
You have convinced me that if we fight terrorism in Iraq long enough we will win militarily. I know we are shorthanded because you are calling up an additional 12,000 National Guard troops this summer. So I am prepared to return to active duty immediately. Given my prior service and age, I have several requests I hope you will see fit to grant.
While I retired as a lieutenant colonel, I want to return as a sergeant so I can lead a squad in combat. I also want to stay not for a year, but until we achieve victory. I should live long enough. My Dad, a WWII vet, died at 88.
I want my squad to consist of personnel committed to the war. Your neoconservative co-conspirators, who supported the war with Iraq as early as 1992, will undoubtedly enthusiastically volunteer to join me. Pugnacious Bill Kristol, who called for attacking Iran to free the British sailors, will be my point man on patrol. Dick Cheney, a deadeye with a lifetime of hunting experience, will be my sniper. Doug Feith, who prepared the “intelligence” which got us into the war when he was head of the Office of Special Plans will, of course, be in charge of intelligence. John Bolton, a superb diplomat, will be responsible for liaison with the Iraqis and remaining members of the “Coalition of the Willing”. Paul Wolfowitz, architect of the Bush Doctrine which resulted in the Iraq invasion, will be in charge of mission operations to insure that financial support for our efforts is siphoned off to Halliburton. Scooter Libby, a fixer for Vice President Cheney, will maintain our equipment (if you pardon him so he can enlist). Entrepreneurial Richard Perle will be our quartermaster. I’m sure he will keep us well provisioned. And last, but not least, I want Fred Kagan, who, lacking military experience and knowledge of the Middle East, nonetheless devised the surge, our key to success in Iraq. He will be the machine gunner in the open turret of our lightly armored Humvee.
We don’t ask for special treatment, only that which you afford all soldiers and Marines. Pre-deployment training will be abbreviated. We won’t be trained in insurgent tactics until we arrive. Our equipment will come from the squad we replace. (I’d rather not use hand-me-downs in combat, but it is more important to fund Halliburton rather than using funds to procure equipment for the troops.) As Secretary Rumsfeld said, “You go to war with the equipment you have.”
In Iraq, we’ll serve on convoy duty, to participate in the IED and ambush “experience” first hand. We will go on nightly raids where we knock down doors and take the men away. Doug Feith will interrogate them according to rules you and Alberto devised. Then we will be assigned to work in Sadr City with Iraqi police of unknown allegiance. Living with them should be quite interesting as we are exposed to death and dismemberment from rocket and mortar attacks, the occasional sniper, IEDs, and suicide bombers, not to mention the hostile Shiite populace.
We will undoubtedly suffer casualties, even men killed in action. I only ask that the dead be buried in Arlington Memorial Cemetery with full military honors, presided over by you, our Commander-in-Chief. I am sure our wounded will receive excellent treatment at the VA. Please hire additional VA administrative personnel, so we don’t have to wait for 18 months before receiving our benefits as at present. And please expand the definition of PTSD so we all qualify. It really doesn’t take too many IEDs, rocket attacks and views of the carnage when the bad guys blow up schools and markets for us to return home with serious issues which need to be resolved.
In conclusion, I am sure that sometime in the next 10 to 15 years you will be extremely proud when those of us who survive return home to report to you “Mission Accomplished.”
Very respectfully,
Fred Seamon

In medical literature, you refer to your own articles if you have published a lot of articles or research on the topic. Has Mr. Turner not seen that in any literature? How is the law literature (if he is a lawyer)? Did he claim that he was “well-read”? What did he read? Some trash newspapers?
On other note:
Bring back the draft and there will be riots in the streets. Presently, the war is not affecting anyone in their daily lives except the soldiers and National guards, so everyone is happy going about their daily life. People need to wake up and protest.
July 27th, 2007 at 9:08 pmGod, that guy is an idiot. No wonder scumpublicans voted for him.
July 27th, 2007 at 9:13 pmVery well written, Lt.Col. Seamon !
But why did you forget our dear leader President Bush? Being the commander in chief, wouldn’t he also like to share in the glory? May be he can join you after he finishes his presidency.
July 27th, 2007 at 9:14 pm“I’m well read. I read USA Today.” Ha ha!

July 27th, 2007 at 9:32 pmWhat the Fascist’s have been trying to do for the last twenty plus years is to have their opinions to replace the truth. The Nazi’s under Adolph Hitler did the same thing in Germany. By telling many versions of the Big Lie they attempt to create their “new truth”. For awhile that worked in America but most of the people Woke Up. There are still approximately 30% who believe what these Fascist’s have planted in their minds. In order for brainwashing to be effective it has to be subtle and over a long period of time. Read the 12 Year Reich by Richard Grunberger and you will understand the Bush misadministration.
July 27th, 2007 at 11:01 pmMichael Turner is a COWARD! He sits on his high horse and trys to insult Secretary Korb a man whom shoes he couldn’t touch if he stood on the highest chair in his office. This idiot is typical of Republicans who were afraid to serve during war, but a hawks when it comes to sending other people’s children off to war. If Turner wants someone who agrees with him all of the time, then he should invite on of his staffers to testify before him. They are probably all yes men, so they will tell him what he wants to here.
He claims he is well read, well apparently he didn’t read a book about truth and honesty. Because if he had, he wouldn’t be questioning Dr. Korb’s credentials. This man is a Viet Nam vet, former Navy Pilot who flew in combat and this pinhead coward dares question his intregrity? I certainly hope the people in his district are proud of the COWARD thy elected.

Another Republican chickenhawk…why am I not surprised?
July 27th, 2007 at 11:51 pmSomeone have a list of Republican Chickenhawks ? And oh, add in Lieberman too. On top of the list. But this guy Turner, wow. What a ____ wimp. Anyone fess up to living from where this turd comes from ?
July 28th, 2007 at 12:07 amSo would it also be correct to refer to a strident anti-war proponent who has never personally experienced war as just a plain old “chicken†?
Comment by Ringo — July 27, 2007 @ 4:30 pm
No Ringo, as much as you are trying to draw a parallel, that is not the case. Advocating a fight without fighting in it is not the same as advocating not fighting and NOT FIGHTING in it.
In fact, that is exactly consistent with standing up for your views. The point here is that so many people supporting this war are more than willing for Americans to die for what they believe in, as long as it is not them.
I am not asking you to agree with me on every issue, I am only saying that I have diffuctulty taking your opinion seriously if you are not willing to stand up for your views. If you think anaction requires a certain action, but are unwilling to perform that action, I see that as a hit on your credibility. I can’t speak for anyone else, but that is how I see it.
July 28th, 2007 at 12:39 amsorry, it is inaction not anaction… :-)
July 28th, 2007 at 12:42 amooops one too many beers :)…I mean an action..I suppose that ruins my CREDIBILITY…oh well. I tried.
July 28th, 2007 at 12:43 amA: Ohio was responsible for reelecting Bush, for that I say (sarcasticly) Thanks Ohio. B: The original definition of a chickenhawk is a homosexual man that takes advantage of a youth under his power. Which is kind of ironic because the neocons seem to worship the ancient Greeks. And anyone who has read ancient greek literature knows that they notoriuos for that behavior.
July 28th, 2007 at 12:57 amOh I didn’t finish my thought. So since most neocons want to send people to war, while never fighting when they had a chance. Plus they worship the ancient greeks. There is a very good chance that they satisfy BOTH definitions of a chickenhawk.

I don’t get your point, Faiz.
Korb admitted that he fudged the sources. Why didn’t he just cite the actually study rather than a report of the study?
Meanwhile Korb states he’ll put his scholarship up against anybody, while he smears General Keane – a 37-year veteran…..how long did Korb serve?
Who’s the real chickenhawk?
July 28th, 2007 at 2:55 amDon’t forget that Ohio gave us Ken Blackwell and Mean Jean, just to name two people. Lived in Cincinnati for 10 years, crappy place to live.

Did they teach you to spit and run, you pathetic sap?
How long do you intend to shift the focus from your idiot party’s failed war?
Hate yourself.

July 28th, 2007 at 7:22 amI have read all these posts and certainly agree with the tenor of 90% of them. However, I have a big problem with the word “chickenhawk” as it’s currently being defined. In my day, a chickenhawk was an adult male preying on young boys (for various nefarious purposes). What happened to that definition?
I have to say, it gives me quite a turn to see “Chickenhawk” in headlines.

Letter to Mike Turner
—-
Quote from Mike Turner at the House Armed Services Committee hearing on C-SPAN:
“I was looking at your bio … that incorrectly I believe referred to you as Doctor Korb. And you do not have a PhD. … And that would go along with then, when you told us that ‘you are not a military expert’…”
That’s interesting, because I was looking at your bio, Representative Turner. You have never served in the military and has no substantive military experience. Korb, on the other hand, is a Navy captain who served in Vietnam. He has served in the Pentagon, taught at the Naval War College and Coast Guard Academy, and has twice traveled to Iraq.
In other words, Mr. Turner, you’re a chicken hawk. You puff out your chest, sucking like a parasite off the bravery of those who make personal sacrifices of the highest order, loyal to the end to a nation no matter how misguided their leaders and criminal their actions.
That would guarantee you status among the lowest of the low-life smear merchants that ever disgraced the hallowed halls of Congress. Congratulations.
July 28th, 2007 at 9:11 am“In my day, a chickenhawk was an adult male preying on young boys (for various nefarious purposes).”
That’s precisely what people like Turner are doing. No, not in a sexual sense, but in even a more deadly one.
July 28th, 2007 at 9:16 amu have to love the way the repugs try to regain ground , pathetic!
July 28th, 2007 at 9:20 amWe need to send bush and half of the senate and congress to iraq for 6 months in the green zone then in 6 months roate them with the vice president and the other half of senate and congress. They can do video comfrence to take care of business, and no comeing home for 6 months. Also teach the morons on how to use an m16 weapon.
July 28th, 2007 at 9:49 amTurner should apologize to Dr. Korb. He should get on his knees and kiss his ass for being so damned stupid. How this rightwing neanderthal ever got to be elected to Congress is a disgrace, especially to his Ohio voters. Dr. Korb spoke with authority and quite eloquently regarding military matters. Turner is just another in a long line of Bush Repuglicans who exhibit their superficiality on important matters affecting the USA. He’s just another political hack with an empty skull.
July 28th, 2007 at 10:51 amThank you Lt Col Seaman……If only they would take you up on your offer.
I would bet you are 100% safe in requesting their duty.
As for the rest of us, are we tired enough yet to start the peaceful revolution with millions in the streets. If not now, when?
July 28th, 2007 at 11:07 amTurner revealed the extent and the crassness of his ignorance when he questioned the fact that Korb used references. What did that moron do in college? Write papers without references?
What a schmuck! And a coward! I am glad that Skelton told him to sit down and listen!
July 28th, 2007 at 11:34 amRepublicans are very good at swift-boating those patriotic Americans who criticize Bush or his failed policies in Iraq. They did this to Senator Kerry who served his country in Vietnam while Bush did not. Kerry is a war hero while Bush is not. They did the same to former Sen. Max Cleland who also proudly served his country in Vietnam while his opponent did not. Even a war hero like Rep. Murtha was swift-boated when he criticized the failed polices of Bush and Cheney in Iraq. Cheney got 5 deferments and didn’t serve his country either. They truly don’t support the troops if they are going to malign and lie about the military service of Americans who did.
July 28th, 2007 at 6:07 pmWell, it’s quite simple. The state of Ohio is home to the large/largest manufactoring plant of the US Army. If Congress would vote to end the war in Iraq and/or Afghanistan then this factory would have to downsize considerably and that is NOT in the interest of mr. Turner of the proud state of Ohio who is fighting to keep that factory open ! And that’s why he tries to smear mr. Korb. Comprende, capisce ???
July 28th, 2007 at 8:09 pmSomething was left out of my latest comment. So, I will repeat my comment below.
Well, it’s quite simple. The state of Ohio is home to the large tank manufactoring plant in the town called Lima. If Congress would vote to end the war in Iraq and/or Afghanistan then this factory would have to downsize considerably and that is NOT in the interest of mr. Turner of the proud state of Ohio. And that’s why he tries to smear mr. Korb. Comprende amigos???
July 28th, 2007 at 8:19 pmLarry Korb was forced to admit “I am not a military expert” when asked by Duncan Hunter to provide a quote that “the Army was broken” from any military expert. Of course Mr Korb also had to admit he didn’t have that either. Mr Korb is Dr in Political Science, but still an idiot.
July 28th, 2007 at 9:25 pmThis is a typical BillO tactic. Spew out the lies, in his case try to run. Oops it didn’t work for him.
July 28th, 2007 at 11:15 pmSound So Familiar
Sometimes you think you know so much about a person you can feel it. For Michael Turner, this must of been one of those moments. In these instances, if you look deep within, you discover what you are feeling are your own shortcomings. Sort of like the kid yelling at the parent: “YOU HATE ME DON’T YOU? I BET YOU CANNOT STAND THE GROUND I WALK ON BECAUSE YOU HATE EVERY LAST BONE IN MY BODY.” In the example, it is clear where the hatred is coming from. It is called “projection,” and Turner just gave a textbook example of this dynamic.
This was a very interesting.

July 28th, 2007 at 11:23 pmYou sir, are a buffoon.
Christ…”I was looking at your bio…that, incorrectly, I believe refers to you as Dr. Corbin(!) and you do not have a PHd.”
“I do.”
“You do have a Phd? It’s not in your bio.”
First he is saying that the bio incorrectly refers to Korb as a Phd…then he tries to blame his accusation that Korb does not have a Phd on the bio!?!?!? Didn’t you just say that the bio stated that Korb had a Phd?
A classic example, albeit a bungled one, of a Republican lying to cover a screw up. What an idiot. Corbin indeed!
July 28th, 2007 at 11:23 pmThis is a typical BillO tactic. Spew out the lies, in his case try to run. Oops it didn’t work for him.
P.S. DVDA does that make himany less wrong?
July 28th, 2007 at 11:24 pm“Chickenhawk” used to refer to older male homosexuals who preyed upon teenaged boys.
Ironic, isn’t it, that both meanings of the term apply to conservative leaders?
July 28th, 2007 at 11:33 pmAnti-intellectualism has a long history as a part of American populism. Now it is being used again as part of the Republican/Corporate strategy of discrediting science and undermining any type of authority that might allow others to compete with them for power.
I keep seeing old-line Republicans surprised they are in the firing line. There should be no surprise. Unless you’re a pad person you’re a threat to them.
July 29th, 2007 at 12:41 amCan we lay off the Ohio [or insert any state here] bashing… please? That kind of provincial crap turns people off and makes one look like an ass. May I remind you Ohio also brought you Dennis Kucinich, Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Howard Metzenbaum and Paul Hackett? And don’t bring up 2004 like folks bring up 2000 to slam FL, the system was gamed (artificially created long lines and caging lists). If you don’t think it can happen in YOUR state, get your head out of the sand. Ohio DID NOT elect bush as much as Florida elected him in 2000. Think your state can’t be rigged? Stay complacent in your seemingly blue stronghold and don’t cry when suddenly your paperless voting machines (allowed even by some clueless dems like here in MD) spits out a curious contrary result.
Are parts of Ohio conservative? Yes. But may I remind you liberal bastions like NYC gave us Guliani. TX has given us Bush, BUT also gave us folks like Ann Richards, Bill Moyers and Molly Ivins. Massachussetts elected both Kerry Kennedy AND Romney. Connecticut re-elected friggin Joementum. GA had both Max Cleland and Zell Miller. Hell here in MD, blue as hell, they elected Erhlich guy over a Kennedy! LA Gave us both David Vitter and Huey Long. California may be liberal but has given us Duncan Hunter and Ronald Reagan (who all but cheered on the death of 4 Ohioans at the Kent State shooting in 1970. So then, should I then slam Californians with a broad brush for electing a guy that cheered on the death of 4 kids? Of course not.)
Slam Ohio all you want but part of the majorities in the congress (including one Dem freshman senator) came THANKS to Ohio. Don’t like how ohio turned out for a few years politically? Maybe look at the policies of the DLC types that foisted NAFTA on the industries of Ohio.
Ohio had been pretty blue until the mid 80’s until most of the manufacturing and steel industries were killed… the death of the unions when those industries passed certainly didn’t help the political landscape.
July 29th, 2007 at 3:17 amDear Mike Turner:
What foolishness!Your attempt to embarrass Dr. Korb during the House Armed Services Committee hearing was snotty and immature. It was hillarious to see it backfire. You remind me of some of the arrogant little “know-nothings” I’ve encountered through the years in my college classrooms who try to “wing it” and fall flat on their faces. You didn’t do your homework, have little knowlege of academic practice (it’s not unusual for people to cite their own work in a paper especially if they are a recognized authority in their area of expertise) and you tried to run from the hearing like a little coward. It was so evident that you are not interested in the truth about our situation in Iraq and the condition of our armed services, but are more about launching baseless attacks and swift-boating individuals who have really paid their dues. The people of your district could be better served.
By the way, I’m not looking for a response from you.
FdeBear, Ph.D.
July 29th, 2007 at 3:47 amOhioan
“Hey! I’m in Ohio!
We’re not all that bad. The further you get from Northeast Ohio (â€Cleveland +â€) the redder you get.”
Not true. I’m from Belmont County is Southeastern Ohio and we gave Ohio a Democrat for governor in the last election as well as another Democratic Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives.
July 29th, 2007 at 4:18 amAndy Bloom, communications director for Turner, told us that Turner has never served in the military and has no substantive military experience. Asked if Turner was participating in a coordinated effort to smear Korb, Bloom said, “I can’t be certain.â€
Not only was Turner stupid enough to attack Korb’s credentials without having checked them out, his staff obviously does not support him either, or they wouldn’t have let him do such a dumb thing. Rudeness and stupidity go hand in hand.
Lots of Reps don’t let anyone contact them from outside their state – and not all GOP; David Obey is another – all you need to do is use a relevant state city and zip code – Not exactly kosher but you can get a message through. Otherwise you have to resort to letter and phone
July 29th, 2007 at 7:59 amI agree with the previous writer – this is not a reflection on Ohio. I would bet that if an honest state-wide election were held today in Ohio, where everyone votes and every vote is counted, the Republican Party would get less than 30% of the vote. I would bet that it is probably true for most states, if not all. What the Republican party has figured out is how to win majorities with such meagre support. There have perfected the art of jerrymandering, voter suppression, electronic vote theft, swift-boating and fund-rasing. The Republican leadership needs people with expertise in these techniques, not PhDs. Rep. Turner fits the bill and that should not come as a surprise. How many Republican leaders can anyone name, who is respected and admired outside their close-knit group?
July 29th, 2007 at 8:33 amChickenhawk is a term much broader than the one ascribed to above. It includes anyone of fighting age and fitness who stridently goes out of their way to promote and defend the war but rationalizes that stateside support is as also a key component to a successful outcome. They would not place them in the place of or as equals to the troops, but don’t hace the fortitude to do the heroic thing by joining the physical fight.
July 29th, 2007 at 9:04 amI used to be a bouncer. Turner reminds me of many nitwits Ive seen that pick fights to show off, only to find out the person they picked was sober and a black-belt. The results were predictable, as they were here. Just another a##hole getting his just deserts.
July 29th, 2007 at 9:05 amMy brother-in-law, who’s been in the Army band over 20 years, will never have anybody shooting at him unless he goes into the wrong areas of DC, is an enormous chickenhawk and religious zealot. His efforts to proselytize have cost him promotions. Even the Army has some standards, at least among the musicians.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:34 amI was told by a gay friend that “chickenhawk” is a term used
July 29th, 2007 at 12:35 pmin that community to describe an older gay man who trolls
for much younger boys. I can see the connection. No matter
how stupid people like Turner appear to be, there is always that
28% out there (wherever that is) who still believe that the
Bush/Rove gang are “doin’ a heck of a job”. Not so amazing,
given the level of discourse at the moment.
Somebody tell this Turner clown that in addition to calling him “Doctor”, he can also call him “CAPTAIN” or “Sir”. Moron.
July 29th, 2007 at 12:53 pmIs there a Chickenhawk committee in Congress for these Republicans? I know there are many committees with various functions in both the House and the Senate, but is there specifically a Chickenhawk Committee? This Turner fool would make a good chairman of that committee. Who would be members of this committee? Would it need to be restricted to current members or could previous members (like Tom Delay) serve on the committee? They could be addressed like: Congressman Michael Turner (R-Ohio) of the House Chickenhawk Committee. Since all these members would be Republicans, perhaps the committee chair would serve directly under Karl Rove – preferally at night and without clothes on I would suspect.
July 29th, 2007 at 2:39 pmWhat sleazy Repug. See, rednecks, this is who you vote for. Guys like Turner who say the respect the military, yet take any chance they get to smear military personnel who do not support the views of the GOP.
July 29th, 2007 at 5:17 pmI don’t like the term “chickenhawk.” I think “pussy” is more appropriate. Thats what they are!!! Lets keep it real people.
July 29th, 2007 at 6:56 pmIf you write the CHICKENHAWK make sure you use his office address in Willimgton because he won’t take comments from people outside his district. You see more and more Repthugicans doing that so they don’t have to hear the truth from us.
July 29th, 2007 at 8:41 pmI watched this exchange in real time.
The poor reactionary thug did indeed
try these worn out old tactics, but it
was clear Lawrence Korb had the high
ground in the exchange, and was quite
dismissive in his reaction. Turner did
sound rather hysterical, and left the
distinct impression of a silly schoolboy
playing at acting like a grownup.
Is this the best Dayton Ohio can do?
July 29th, 2007 at 10:21 pmI think not. Next time Dayton, send a
real grownup to the House, and stop
making yourselves look so silly and
vindictive.
typical Ohio gop chickenshit repuke. way to go, Dayton, Ohio. you all officially suck conservative goat balls.
July 30th, 2007 at 8:58 ami tried to send a message to congressman chickenhawk but his web site does NOT accept emails from zip codes outside his district. how convenient.
July 30th, 2007 at 9:54 amThe only reason Mike Turner was ever elected to represent Ohio’s 3rd district is because the Republicans redrew the districts after the 2000 census so that no Democrat stood a chance to be elected. The incumbant Democrat Tony Hall sold out to Bush and took an appointment to fight hunger with the U.N. rather than try to win in the new district. In the city of Dayton, which used to all be in the 3rd district, Mr. Turner was defeated as the incumbent mayor by an equally inept Democrat. Unfortunately, we seem to be stuck with Mr. Turner until after the 2010 census when the districts will again be redrawn, and hopefully made more competative.
