I am looking for a courageous member of Congress who cares more about the country
and our Constitution than about party or reelection. That’s a tall order, but I believe
we are in a constitutional crisis for which the solution, as provided by the Constitution,
is impeachment.

Think about it! It must be evident to you that the Bush-Cheney administration is
violating their oath to “protect and defend the Constitution” with impunity. Congress’
powers of oversight and funding — the proverbial “checks and balances” — have been
spurned. Republican majorities have aided and abetted the neutering of Congress.

The recent spate of refusals to provide subpoenaed documents and forbid testimony
on grounds of “executive privilege” that are obviously spurious should be evidence
enough that this administration is a law unto itself. They are literally thumbing
their nose at Congress and daring you to stop them. Clearly, they do not fear impeachment.

I am aware of all the political excuses that are being made by the Democratic leadership
and others why impeachment proceedings would be counterproductive, a waste of time,
etc. But what seems to be missing here is the long-term damage to our Constitutional
system of government that will not necessarily be repaired by electing a Democratic
president and majorities in House and Senate in 2008.

What would prevent a Democratic president from exercising all the Bush precedents
for secrecy, lying, canceling habeas corpus, spying on Americans without a warrant,
etc. Does that not worry you?

The Bush-Cheney “toolbox” will sit around and be available to the next president.
What president will refrain from use of any of those power tools waiting to seduce
him or her? Does that not concern you?

Impeachment of both Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney is the only Constitutional recourse we
have and needs to be undertaken on behalf of the future of our great country. Impeachment
does not create a “crisis;” the “crisis” already exists in the reckless and arrogant
behavior of this administration. Mr. Bush has been thumbing his nose at Congress
and the Constitution. Do you care?

If you have the guts, you will sign on to HR333 for Mr. Cheney and work on getting
articles of impeachment prepared for Mr. Bush. And you will tell your leader, Rep.
Pelosi, that she needs to understand that impeachment is never “off the table,” because
it is in the Constitution.

Sounds better than fascism disguised as conservatism…

Bush needs to be impeached right after Cheney so that he is kept from naming a new vice president.

Nancy Pelosi will make a great President to fill the remainder of Bush’s term.
