Breaking: FBI raids Sen. Stevens’ house.

“Federal law enforcement agents are currently searching the Girdwood home of Alaska U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens, an FBI agent said. ‘All I can say is that agents from the FBI and IRS are currently conducting a search at that residence,’ said Dave Heller, the assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s Anchorage office. The search began this afternoon, he said. It’s the only such search warrant currently being served, he said.”

Then it’s surprising that the bush-crony-filled DOJ isn’t able to do anything about it…unless…maybe…the democrats aren’t sufficiently brazenly corrupt (or at least not as obviously as the republics). E.g., duke cunningham writing out the bribes he expected to receive makes it easy to decide who to go after; if the republic party is going to have their members practically write the cases against them themselves you can’t blame the FBI for picking the low hanging fruit.

  72. Justice says:

  107. Justice says:

sorry, should have posted the info to Robert’s seizure

WASHINGTON (AP) – Chief Justice John Roberts suffered a seizure at his seaside summer home in the northeastern state of Maine on Monday, which caused a fall that resulted in minor scrapes, Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said.
The senior U.S. judge was to remain overnight in a Maine hospital.
Roberts, 52, was taken by ambulance
to the Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Maine, where he underwent a «thorough neurological evaluation, which revealed no cause for concern,» Arberg said in a statement.
Roberts underwent a similar episode in 1993, she said.
Besides being the youngest justice on the nine-member court at age 52 _ the oldest is Justice John Paul Stevens, 87 _ Roberts added a rightward tilt to the court’s political bent when he was appointed in 2005, especially after the confirmation in early 2006 of another conservative justice, John Alito. Supreme Court justices and other federal judges receive lifetime appointments.
Roberts’ seizure occurred at midafternoon on a dock near his summer home in Port Clyde on Maine’s Hupper Island. Port Clyde, part of the town of St. George, is about 90 miles by car northeast of Portland, midway up the coastline of the northeasternmost U.S. state.
Roberts was taken by private boat to the mainland and then transferred to an ambulance, St. George Fire Chief Tim Polky said.
«He was conscious and alert when they put him in the rescue (vehicle),» Polky said. The hospital, in Rockport, did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
President George W. Bush chose both Roberts and Alito as justices in 2005. Bush was informed of the hospitalization by his chief of staff, Josh Bolten, White House officials said.
Roberts is the father of two young children.
Doctors called Monday’s incident «a benign idiopathic seizure,» Arberg said. The White House described the January 1993 episode as an «isolated, idiosyncratic seizure.
Larry Robbins, a Washington attorney who worked with Roberts at the Justice Department in 1993, said he drove Roberts to work for several months after the incident. Robbins said Roberts never mentioned what the problem was, and he never heard of it happening again.
In 2001, Roberts described his health as «excellent,» according to Senate Judiciary Committee records.

Roberts became chief justice after the death of William Rehnquist in September 2005, although Bush had first chosen him to take Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s seat after she announced her retirement that year.
He had served as an appellate judge in Washington and spent more than a decade before that as a lawyer in a Washington law firm, where he specialized in arguing cases before the Supreme Court.
Roberts also served in the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, the current president’s father, in the 1980s and ’90s. Both are Republicans, like George H.W. Bush.
Roberts spent a couple of weeks in Europe in July, teaching a course in Vienna and attending a conference in Paris. He was at the court in Washington late last week.
Associated Press writer David Sharp in Portland, Maine, contributed to this story.

So Rehnquist pops pills and is drugged most of his term and Roberts does the Curly Shuffle from time to time. Great line-up from the conservative side.

  109. VerbalKint says:

Let’s lay of the seizure-is-good line, please. I vehemently disagree with Roberts on many aspects of the law, but the man has family and friends who probably care about him, and I see no evidence of pure evil (unlike Cheney).

  110. Egreggious says:

Maybe Justice Roberts will have a seizure and die. Right after Bush leaves office. One can only hope.

There’s another one for Bill O’Reilly.

  111. Wilco says:

I would hope everyone here were above wishing death upon someone just because of ideological differences. Even Cheney has family. He has a grandchild I’m sure he’d like to see grow up at least a little.

I can. And I’m really not that happy that it’s now stuck in my head.

There may be some people here who have been afflicted with or by Epilepsy, and don’t think it’s funny to watch their loved one’s go through seizure after seizure day after day for years without an answer.

What a special guy, that Cannon. I wonder if he has problems with those dirty, dirty pages as well? :D

My guy, Bill Sali. What a great man. He constantly and rabidly connects abortion with breast cancer, even though study after study shows no connection. He once so doggedly insisted on trying to force through a bill that would force doctors to inform women patients of the abortion.brest cancer link, that the ID House Dem leader (a breast cancer survivor) walked out in tears.

The other Rep in Idaho “hates [Sali's] guts.”

The Idaho Speaker of the House said this about Sali: “That idiot is just an absolute idiot. He doesn’t have one ounce of empathy in his whole fricking body. And you can put that in the paper.”

Sali’s also homophobic. He appeared on a PBS candidates program last fall, where my son was working as a cameraman). The host chose not to ask Sali about the Gay Marriage issue on the ballot, because he knew no other questions would be asked or answered after that. Hearing what Sali had to say, my son, who went o shake Sali’s hand after the show (which was customary for all involved in the show, toward all guests), told Sali, “You smell really nice.” Sali virtually ran from the building.

    Do I win? :-)

  117. Wilco says:

Now, if it were, say, Carrottop, instead of Roberts….

This is off topic, but Keith suggested that Bush could fire Gonzo or he could resign the end of this week as Congress goes off to their August recess, and then Bush could do a recess appointment of another AG without going through the Congressional approval.. Could that happen??

    Comment by JG — July 30, 2007 @ 8:15 pm

I think it’s very possible. Others say there’s no way that Gonzo would go of his own free will, or that Bush would fire him.

Rumsfield eventually had to go. I think Gonzo’s time has come as well.

  130. VerbalKint says:

#127 Can Senate leaders call a special session then?

I thought Reid was leaving some caretaker Senators through the break so that there was no official “recess”. At least this was a strategy mentioned a few months ago.

  132. Zooey says:

    Could that happen??
    Comment by JG — July 30, 2007 @ 8:15 pm

I could see Bush trying that. I think Harry Reid can see the possibility as well, and I bet he’d get enough people in town to get into session and prevent it.

I don’t know how many that would be, but I know I’ve heard Harry say something about doing that, specifically to prevent recess appointments.

  133. gummitch says:

OK, that’s creepy. I just posted a link to an earlier post right here on TP and the link disappeared from my post, even though I used their own “link” button.

I switched by Fox News on my way to Countdown and heard on Fox that Sen. Stevens had advance notice of the search warrant. Yeah, I’d expect that from this DOJ. ‘Hey, we’re coming over with a search warrant so make sure you got all your incriminating stuff out of there!’

  142. Innocent Bystander says:

Is it possible to be a Republican in federal office and not be either corrupted or blackmail-able? If today’s RNC is an organized crime syndicate, I can’t see where they’d want independent people with integrity in office. I think the deal is, you give us your vote and whatever you can steal or get away with, we’ll just look the other way. It’s certainly not the RNC that’s ratting out Ted.

“This criminal should resign right now…then he and DeLay can go into business together at the Liar, Cheatum, and Steel law firm. What a combination.” I’m hearing that the new lawfirm of Doolittle, DeLay, and Ney will be representing Mr’ Stevens. They specialize in Republican public corruption cases. :-)

Weren’t you just Dr. Dog? How do you keep track of all the aliases?

Suggestion to TP. Assign a unique key to each IP address here and include it with the poster name. That way, we can track all the variations of concerned supporters of Republican values. I suspect there’s only a 1/2 dozen or so RNC posters here. It will ultimately make their life easier as they won’t have to bother trying to cover their tracks.

  144. AlphaLiberal says:

    Goodbye, ANWR drilling!

Every time Republicans bring it up there will be the “Senate Ted Stevens, under an active FBI investigation, attacked …” They’ll assure us they’ll develop the Alaskan oil responsibly despite Alaskan Republican corruption.

Think they’ll find anything on oil company activities in Stevens office? That would be something.

  145. AlphaLiberal says:

Ha-ha!! The Veco Corporation CEO pleaded guilty to bribing officials. And Veco was renovating Stevens’ house!

And Veco is an oil services firm!! Bring it on! Let’s debate ANWR!

Senator Stevens (R-Veco) leading the pro-drilling debate!
