Iraqi sheiks convey message to Ellison.

On a recent visit to Iraq, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) — the sole Muslim member of Congress — said he was given a message to convey by two sheiks he met in Ramadi:

“They were very upset and concerned that al-Qaida is misrepresenting Islam,” Ellison told reporters Monday during a conference call from Germany on his way back to the U.S. “And they were talking to me about what I can possibly do to work with them to give a clearer, more accurate picture of what Islam is all about.”

I’d be willing to bet on TMM’s view. Lots of exposure to negative stereotypes through the media and pretty much a blackout on real information for anyone who hasn’t actually either taken the trouble to find out about Islam on their own or never had any contact with Muslims.

It’s the sort of ignorance that allows for mushrooms like our trolls to sprout, and to spout their continuous volume of crap about Islam and Muslims.

  10. missmolly says:

Good luck, Congressman. Ever since 9/11, American Muslims have condemned those responsible and have kept up a pretty steady drumbeat telling anyone who will listen that terrorist acts such as happened that day do not represent Islam. Mosques and Muslim community groups all over the country have held open houses, seminars, and discussion groups for their non-Muslim neighbors — both to educate and to reach out a hand of community. Though I am not a Muslim, I have been to the local mosque and I have Muslim friends. These are people who not only are devoted to God, they also see themselves as members of the American community as a whole, with an obligation to contribute to it.

And yet, I still hear right-wingers go on about how “Muslims aren’t doing enough to condemn the 9/11 attacks.” Yes, they are. Too many people aren’t listening.

Ellison has been critical of their hero, GWB, and compared the results of 9/11 to the results of the Reichstag fire. Wingnuts ran around screeching that Ellison had compared Bush to Hitler, and we all know that only wingnuts are allowed to compare anyone to Nazis.

    What a sense of humor.

A leading Fundamentalist Christian leader and psychologist, James Dobson of Focus on the Family, recommends spanking children in some situations from the age of 18 months. Some believe that corporal punishment is the only effective method to be used. Discipline and spanking are often closely linked; the terms are often used interchangeably. Non-violent parenting techniques are often not emphasized. They often promote the belief that without spanking and hitting, children will grow up completely undisciplined.

OH YEAH, BEATING AN 18 MONTH OLD BABY. Go Christians!!!

Breaking: ‘mikey r’ is the name-jacker of the two dead American heroes, Pat Tillman and Stephen R. Sherman.

  105. CT Scantonocity says:

Tell us, Mikey…why would you do such a thing? What motivated you to disrespect two of our fallen heroes?

  106. TripMaster Monkey says:

That’s a damned lie, CT, and you know it.

    No shame whatsoever.

C**T, is this part of the “quality discourse” you’re so concerned about? Which part of it is “quality discourse”? The lies you vomit up to cover your own heinous acts? Or your pathetic campaign against me simply because I pointed out that you’re a silly little C**T?

“C**t” is not an answer, ‘mikey r.’ You combativeness further implicates you.

This doesn’t look good for you. There are no lies from me, and you hissy-fit shows your cover to be unraveling.

    Uh oh, mikey.

  109. Wilco says:

    They’re deleting like crazy!

  110. Egreggious says:

Since C**T is sure that mikey r is the culprit, I take it he will not join me in condemning The Joker.

  111. mikey r says:

Nice try, C**T, but you didn’t answer my question.

And calling a question a “hissy-fit” doesn’t qualify as an answer.

“Your combativeness further implicates you”? This from a c**t who demands matching IP addresses as proof? Where is YOUR proof, C**T? How quickly can YOU produce these matching IP addresses that you say will validate any clkaim of authorship that you have levelled against me?

On second thought, it wasn’t even a nice try. But it was utterly predictable.

    Poor little C**T.

That would be because ‘mikey r’ is your culprit.

You’re not doing yourself any good, Mikey….

There’s still probable cause that you’ve been in on it, yet you haven’t refuted anything.

Again, I ask: why would you disrespect two of America’s fallen heroes?

  114. Egreggious says:

C**T has obviously studied at the feet of Karl Rove.

  116. mikey r says:

You’ll need to post the technical evidence (matching IP addresses, etc.) proving the fact it was indeed a “troll” who name-jacked any dead soldiers.

Care to resolve the two differing standards of proof here, C**T?

It appears that you have accused me of something without providing any of the proof that you demanded of another.

    Hypocrisy? Heaven forbid!

  117. Egreggious says:

I too, condemn the actions you speak of.

    I know. But ” M r . P r e s i d e n t ” was a household name that we all have come to know and love!

    If “M r . P r e s i d e n t” wouldn’t spam quite so much, and thereby encourage his buddies to do likewise, I really wouldn’t have any problem with him joining us here.

  125. daddy4mak says:

to the question above…about why is their so much violence from Muslims these days. I would turn the question back to you – why is their so much violence from contemporary secular/democratic nations of the West:
    1) Vietnam (1-3 million dead)
    2) Holocaust (6+ million dead, just among Jews)
    3) Iraq 630K+ dead, according to scientific estimates
    4) countless wars african and middle eastern countries covertly supported by western countries (uncounted milllions dead) just in the last 80 years
    5) colonialism (uncounted millions dead)

This is not to justify violence by Muslims, it’s wrong and we have to do everything to stop it. But, It’s unfair to only blame Muslims for violence. The root of violence is from non-religious virtues: greed, hate, arrogance, oppression and of course fear.

The Quran and many other religions expend quite a bit of time fighting these feelings inside of the Self (the Greater Jihad). On the other hand, i’d put Greed as something part and parcel of capitalism. The greed of oil is why all the wars in the middle east in the last 27 years have been waged. This is why we have allowed 630K iraqis and 3700 thousand of our own soldiers to die.

Name one Muslim country in the last 100 years that has been responsible for a million deaths on it’s own (i.e. don’t count the Iran-Iraq war of the 80s as that was the US supplying weapons to Saddam and Iran )?

p.s. I don’t mean to single out the West — contemporary secular non-Western nations such as Russia China, and Japan have blood of millions on their hands as well…And even India — it’s a stretch but their treatment of Sri Lankans, Sikhs, Muslim minorities have killed many tens of thousands

i guess i shouldn’t hold my breath waiting for a national town hall meeting on Iraq or anything else anytime soon. blue is not a healthy shade for me. we don’t do anything as a country anymore, except maybe pork out and wait for the gospel from faux news. no REAL thinking is required.
