Mueller’s testimony ‘chills’ FBI and DoJ relations.

Since FBI director Robert S. Mueller contradicted Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ sworn Senate testimony last week, relations between their respective agencies have chilled. “You could open an ice rink between the buildings,” one Mueller aide told the New York Daily News. Another FBI official criticized the Department’s defense of Gonzales:

Justice spokesman Brian Roehrkasse said “confusion is inevitable” when officials discuss classified activities in public.

FBI officials bristled at that.

“If you read the [FBI] director’s testimony, it is anything but confusing,” said a top Mueller ally at the FBI.

  4. Alan Says:

It's either Contempt of Congress or Contempt of Gonzales. Which would you choose if you had any freedom to choose?

Muller knows that he has to work after this mess is over. Gonzales will be on a plane to Dubai with Cheney at 12:01 am on 1/21/09.

  8. hellinabucket Says:

Great point and question Alan. Take your pick.

  9. missmolly Says:

So now the FBI is none too happy with the DoJ. Where is today's Deep Throat? We could use him now.

  10. Gerald Gibson Says:

Get real! These guys have not implemented all these executive branch power grabs in order to just turn them over to a democratic administration.

They have no intention of ever leaving office.

All they need is one big terrorist attack to conveniently happen this time next year, and they will be in for good.

    You'll see.

  12. BARTLEBEE Says:

Good. Robert Mueller is a hard liner, and is certainly no liberal. But he has one thing Gonzo doesn't have.

    He actually "cares" about America.

  13. G Whiz Says:

This is precisely what corporate America does intentionally, internally, within their own companies. Set departments against departments.

Corporate America thinks that "controlled friction" is good.

The CIA and the FBI need a "come to Jesus" meeting, and need to define exactly WHO is the real enemy.

  14. JMOHR Says:

Once again we see the collateral damage caused by dogmatic loyalists of the Bush administration. However, the MSM never seems to trumpet the severe damage being done to the safety of the US or the administration of justice caused by these idiots.

  15. VerbalKint Says:

Perhaps there is still some respect for the rule of law at the FBI. Heaven knows the Bush cultists don't respect it.

Chilled relations between the FBI & DOJ emboldens the enemy.

    Comment by dim wit

Only 6 Senators read the Iraq pre-war intelligence pub-wit. Besides the FBI isn't the CIA. The FBI works more on national issues and hires college students (College Republicans) that are accountants, computer gurus, legal beagles etc...who look for insider trading and stuff like Enron. And if you watch the boob-tube they also look for UFOS!!

Are you, dim wit, gonna join CRYING (College Republicans Yes to Irag National Goal) and go to Iraq and show these lefties that us College Republicans are just keyboard weenies?

    Please join.

    Idiot.

  17. Mr President Says:

    Hey, this is great!

Another ice skating rink so my socialist Canadian liberal friend cLib Teenie can skate on. Eh?

  18. chadwick Says:

Why does the FBI hate America?

  19. JG Says:

Is there still anyone willing to work at the DOJ? I thought they all left...

  20. dim wit Says:

    Mr. P,
So you agree with me: that the DOJ is emboldening the enemy by giving the FBI the cold shoulder.
This president of ours is an excellent emboldener.

  21. marty Says:

Obviously, Mueller forgot his duty as a Federal official... to be a "loyal Bushie"

  22. chunky mustard Says:

You are assuming that the dems aren't in it, too. Maybe we really do have only one party these days and elections as well as the entire checks-and-balances system is just an elaborate play meant to keep the people in check.

Think about it. It's really not that far fetched. You scratch my back, you scratch mine and sod the proles!

  23. jacksmom Says:

Mueller does alot I don't agree with (and i am in law enforcement), but today he's moved in the right direction. Maybe he's hoping to stay on with the next (Democratic and hopefully democratically elected) President by being the good guy.

  24. Kilo Says:

Justice spokesman Brian Roehrkasse said “confusion is inevitable” when officials discuss classified activities in public.

Lucky then you've got those democrat congressmen to avoid asking questions about classified programs.

Best to not bother asking Gonzales about the undisclosed programs that violated all the laws and civil rights concerns that the disclosed program didn't. It'll just be confusing.

  25. DreamCrusher Says:

It's funny because Mueller didn't contradict Gonzales. Only idiots who can't think for themselves, and cannot read English, believe this.
