iraqisflags.jpg

After the Iraq soccer team’s 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the prestigious 2007 Asian Cup, the Iraqi people temporarily allowed ethnic atrocities to fade. “Rich and poor, Shiites and Sunnis and Kurds, they swarmed out of Baghdad’s swank villas and adobe hovels unified by a sports team — if only briefly.” Within a few hours, a minibus exploded in a Baghdad market, killing at least six people. In all, 58 people nationwide were killed by bombings and attacks.

Eight million: Number of Iraqis — nearly a third of the population — who are “in need of immediate emergency aid.” According to the new report by Oxfam and a coalition of Iraqi NGOs, the Iraqi government is “failing to provide basics such as food and shelter.”

Some scientists who wish to “test their alternatively derived cells have found themselves stymied by an unexpected barrier: President Bush’s stem cell policy. … As a result, the National Institutes of Health recently refused to consider a grant application for what would have been the first federal study to compare several of the new, less politically contentious stem cell lines.”

“After raising the minimum wage by 70 cents an hour this week, many members of Congress are ready to give themselves a pay increase of roughly $4,400 per year. That would take their annual salaries to nearly $170,000.”

“Controversy over Gonzales’s candor about Bush’s conduct or policies has actually dogged him for more than a decade, since he worked for Bush in Texas.” The Washington Post recalls Gonzales meeting with a Texas judge get Bush out of jury service and avoid disclosing a prior DUI conviction. Gonzales, however, “made no mention of meeting with the judge in a written statement submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee.”

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales must quickly clarify apparent contradictions in his testimony about warrantless spying or risk a possible perjury investigation. “He has a week,” said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT). “But you have to follow the law. I have to follow the law. They should have to follow the law. That’s the bottom line.”

U.S. and Iraqi officials have erected a “legal Green Zone” in Baghdad, “a heavily fortified compound to shelter judges and their families and secure the trials of some of the most dangerous suspects. … For Iraqi officials, working at the compound is so fraught with risk that it often requires separating themselves and their families from life outside the complex’s gates.”

Members of the Bancroft family, which controls Dow Jones & Co. Inc., will likely decide by the end of today “whether they will support News Corp.’s $5 billion bid for the news organization.”

And finally: Stephen Colbert “was making the rounds in Washington on Friday,” collecting signatures “for the cast encasing his recently broken wrist.” While President Bush wasn’t around to sign his cast, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was, and “cheekily called the comedian a ‘bone-coddling crybaby.’”

What did we miss? Let us know in the comments section.

    That’s about $10,000 per hour, isn’t it?

This is too sad for words. I am so ashamed of what my country has done.

If we don’t Impeach Chaney and Bush, we will leave a black blot on this country that will last for a very very long time. I don’t even care if they are convicted, they just need to be Impeached for the world to see that we are sorry for what these people have done and that we really do value our constitution and the rule of law.

Since when do you get a “do over” when you tell a lie? This is ridiculous. He knowingly lied under oath. He was given numerous chances to change his testimony before he left the chamber, but he did not do it. So why, now, is he being given the chance to change his testimony.

Let’s all hope that the Bancroft family cares more about their country than they do about the almighty dollar. Because if Rupert Murdock is allowed to take over the media in this country (he’s close to that point now), we can kiss this country goodbye.

Controversy over the attorney General’s candor? How polite, the man is a simple stooge and a disgrace to the Latin American Community. When I’ve watched C-span, as the chairman releases the witness, he says something like, “the record will remain open for the next x days, for you to blah-blah your testimony.” I never paid much attention to what “x” and “blah-blah” really were, but I think I’ve heard them say it every time.

WASHINGTON — Republicans increasingly are backing a new approach in the Iraq war that could become the party’s mantra come September. It would mean narrowly limited missions for U.S. troops in Iraq but let President Bush decide when troops should leave.

So far, the idea has not attracted the attention of Democratic leaders. They are under substantial pressure by anti-war groups to consider only legislation that orders troops from Iraq.

Guess you are just going to have to live with your “ashamedness”. There obviously isn’t going to be an impeachment..look at how all the Democrats in congress have backed down on that one since they got elected.

Reason there will be no impeachment? Can’t impeach for mere poor popularity ratings…there actually has to be a provable “high crimes and misdemeanors”…and there ain’t any. And the Democrats knew that going in. But weak minded, wobbly, and confused voters fell for it. Getting elected, not having any kind of actual plan once they got there, is what mattered to the Democrats. Sorry for your dissapointment, but you deserve it.

Personally, I’m proud of what we are attempting to accomplish in Iraq. Finally getting rid of that murderous Hussein regime is a noble effort, as is our attempt to stabilize the country and provide a fledgling workable democracy. It’s up to the Iraqi people to step up to the plate now, and it was never stated is was going to be quick or easy.

That some of you can’t seem to grasp the idea that the real world doesn’t work in one-hour episodes, or news cycles, or election cycles, and that you have lost your sense of right and wrong, and have gotten soft and don’t possess a backbone, is what I am ashamed of. Additionally, if all you folks who hate your own country, and your own government, had a shred of self-awareness, you would be ashamed of yourselves.

However, I am not so ashamed of you that it colors my opinion of our nation. We are still the greatest nation on the face of the planet. The nation with the most opportunity for the individual to succeed. The nation with the highest per-capita standard of living ever known. The nation with the greatest freedom, and the means to enjoy that freedom.

In short, the United States has been great, is great, and will remain great. Despite you, not because of you.

Hahaha! That’s a highly cherry picked (an incorrect) figure. Carter’s real GDP growth was ~3.3% per year, and you completely gloss over the 21% prime rate and 11% inflation that ate up at pensions, mortgages, and anything on a fixed income.

But thank you for taking selective numbers from 3 different presidents and comparing them to carter, ignoring everything else.

  117. TripMaster Monkey Says:

As long as we’re discussing the AntiChrist:

The 27 Characteristics of the AntiChrist:

    1. He comes from among ten kings in the restored Roman Empire; his authority will have similarities to the ancient Babylonians, Persians, and Greeks [Daniel 7:24; Rev 13:2 / Daniel 7:7]

    2. He will subdue three kings [Daniel 7:8, 24]

    3. He is different from the other kings [Daniel 7:24]

    4. He will rise from obscurity…a “little horn” [Daniel 7:8]

    5. He will speak boastfully [Daniel 7:8; Rev 13:5]

    6. He will blaspheme God, [Daniel 7:25; 11:36; Rev 13:5] slandering His Name, dwelling place, and departed Christians and Old Testament saints [Rev 13:6]

    7. He will oppress the saints and be successful for 3 ½ years [Daniel 7:25; Rev 13:7]

    8. He will try to change the calendar, perhaps to define a new era, related to himself [Daniel 7:25]

    9. He will try to change the laws, perhaps to gain an advantage for his new kingdom and era
    [Dan 7:25]

    10. He will not be succeeded by another earthly ruler, but by Christ [Daniel 7:26-27]

    11. He will confirm a covenant with “many”, i.e. the Jewish people [Daniel 9:27]
This covenant will likely involve the establishment of a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem
    [see Dan 9:27; Matt 24:15]

    12. He will put an end to Jewish sacrifice and offerings after 3 ½ years and will set up an abomination to God in the Temple [Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15]

    13. He will not answer to a higher earthly authority; “He will do as he pleases”[Daniel 11:36]

    14. He will show no regard for the religion of his ancestors [Daniel 11:37]

    15. He will not believe in any god at all [except for himself] [Daniel 11:37]

    16. He will have “no regard for the desire of women”: He will either be asexual or homosexual
    [Dan 11:37]

    17. He will claim to be greater than any god [Daniel 11:37; 2 Thess 2:4]

    18. He will claim to be God [2 Thessalonians 2:4]

    19. He will only honor a “god” of the military. His whole focus and attention will be on his military. He will conquer lands and distribute them [Daniel 11:39-44]

    20. His arrival on the world scene will be accompanied by miracles, signs and wonders [2 Thess 2:9]

    21. Either he, or his companion [The False Prophet], will claim to be Christ [Matt 24:21-28]

    22. He will claim that Jesus did not come in the flesh, or that Jesus did not rise bodily from the grave
[2 John 7]. He will deny that Jesus is the Messiah [I John 2:22]

    23. He will be worshipped by many people [Rev. 13:8]

    24. He will hate a nation that initially will have some control over his kingdom, but he will destroy this nation [Rev 17:16-18]

    25. He will appear to survive a fatal injury [Rev. 13:3; 17:8]

    26. His name will be related to the number six hundred and sixty six—but not necessarily in an obvious fashion [Rev 13:17-18].

    27. He will be empowered by the devil himself [Rev. 13:2]

Now, looking through those criteria, who are you reminded most strongly of?

With this level of insidious criminal behavior on the part of Gonzo dating back to Bush’s DUI, etc., I believe the people now need to also file a class action suit against the previous congress who voted this thug into his present position as the “chief law officer in the country”. It’s a disgrace that they intentionally overlooked many of the previous times this man lied; they’ve essentially become “complicit” in the “abrogation of their congressional duties” in facilitating the jetissoning of this prior information and confirming him for this position.

It’s time to go to the jugular and hold the Repuke enablers equally responsible for their obvious and overt derelection of duty. After all, only part of the blame is Gonzo’s; the remainder of the blame would rest on the shoulders of those who knew he was “unfit for the office” and looked the other way. Time to make them all pay for such horrendous errors in judgment.

Actually, Zooey, we Virginians are doing genetic experimentation on the trolls, trying to introduce an “intelligence” gene into them in their embryonic state so that they’re all born as blue staters. Sad thing is, BushCo’s ban on stem cell research is working against us here — that’s why we keep getting so many runts that are completely clueless…

Bottom line Gonzales lied. Now Bush has to take taxpayers money to give health care to 3 Million people in Iraq. GOP will with the blessings of Bush take away health care from Americans even children to make sure Iraq gets what it needs. The same low income family will still have to pay their taxes so the health care for Iraq is paid. No problem letting children in America died from lack of health care. Americans don’t like to see a child suffer but the media will only show the children of Iraq not the American children who will suffer and die. Just keep paying your fair share of taxes to make sure that Iraq gets everything thing they need. Right now the Iraq men are working on US projects and getting paid so the unemployment is very low, plus the elders are given US tax dollars to keep the peace. Yes it’s a good cover so the American people will past the next 400,000 billion dollar bill for the President. Look even the media wont report the truth only websites and overseas news media tell the truth. To hear NBC tell it Iraq is the safest place in the world and Petraeus has single handily brought peace to all of Iraq. As our troops are dying in Iraq it goes unreported. When the honest report comes out the US public will be shocked.

Talk about cherrypicked numbers! You picked only 2.

The bottom of this group of FIVE presidents looks real familiar - nad it doesn’t include Carter.

I have only these three statistics because they are the only three I researched.

    Carter:
    GDP: 1976: $4,541B, 1980: $5,162B: +$621B, 14% (3.3% per year)
    Jobs: 1976 to 1980: 10,339k, 2,585k per year, 215k per month
Debt: increased $520B, $130B per year
    Super Ron:
    GDP: 1980: $5,162B, 1988: $6,742B: +$1,581B, 31% (3.4% per year)
    Jobs: 1981 to 1988: 16,102k, 2,013k per year, 168k per month
Debt: increased $2,082B, $260B per year
    George HW:
    GDP: 1988: $6,742B, 1992: $7,337B: +$594B, 9% (2.1% per year)
    Jobs: 1989 to 1992: 2,592k, 648k per year, 54k per month
Debt: increased $1,242B, $310B per year
    Clinton:
    GDP: 1992: $7,337B, 2000: $9,817B: +$2,480B, 34% (3.7% per year)
    Jobs: 1993 to 2000: 22,729k, 2,841k per year, 237k per month
Debt: decreased $15B, $2B per year
    George W:
    GDP: 2000:$9,817B, 2006: $11,319B: +$1502B, 15% (2.4% per year)
    Jobs:2000 to 5/2007: 5,360k, 670k per year, 56K per month
Debt: increased $1,161B, $290B per year

    Ranking:
GDP: Clinton, Super Ron, Carter, George W, George HW,
Jobs: Clinton, Carter, Super Ron, George W, George HW,
Debt: Clinton, Carter, Super Ron, George W, George HW.

All data comes from government websites: GDP from BEA, jobs from BLS, and Debt from OMB.
All dollar values are constant FY 2000.

Yes, I’m including Daryll on the list. I think of him as a troll because of his hateful and hypocritical attitude toward those he deems “sinners,” while leaving himself off the list. He has said some truly horrifying things to people on this blog.

Having said that, Daryll is not the same type of troll as Mr Pee and friends. They are truly useless. Daryll performs a “service” by providing insight into the inner workings of the minds of christian fundamentalists.

  144. William Board Says:

House Democrats stalled embryonic stem cell’s progress.

The Senate’s S.30 passed with a veto-proof margin - but the House wouldn’t give it to the President to sign … so he issued an executive order for the NIH to set up guidelines to fund this type of research.

This time it was the progressives holding things up - for example, the only ones to vote NAY on S.30 were: Clinton, Feinstein, Kennedy, Obama, Reid, Schumer, etc., and their feet should be held to the fire for holding things up.

Put the blame where it belongs on this one, and this time it’s not Bush.
