Throughout the Iraq War, the month of July always shows a decrease or leveling of the death rate for American troops. That said, the July 2007 total of 78 troops killed is the highest monthly total for a July time period. This is a positive sign of progress? Another “Brownie” moment compliments of Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno.

We might all do well to remember that we are basing our conclusions upon data that has been provided for us by the same U. S. military and Bush Administration who have provided changing stories regarding Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman, as well as a multitude of other critical issues. If anything, the real numbers may actually be even more at odds with the Administration’s rosy pronouncements.

Comment by curmudgeon — August 1, 2007 @ 5:21 pm

You might also do well to consider whether only the government would notice if someone killed you.
Fkn idiot. Have any idea how big of an arsehole you need to be to suggest something like this ?

It's like suggesting that if your kid died at school that everyone in his class would pretend nothing happened and purposely not mention it.

That you, as a parent, wouldn't notice when you never heard from your kid again. That you wouldn't notice when his name was missing from the graduation rolls.

Do you fkn think that's going to be any more likely if this happened at a public school arsehole ?

Another record for Iraq --

Since the http://icasualties.org website updated the U. S. military fatalities death toll to 80 for the month of July, 2007, this represents the EIGHTH consecutive month with at least 80 or more deaths. The previous record for consecutive months with 80 or more fatalities -- TWO -- in April-May of 2004 and October-November of 2005.

The term "surge" was very predictive -- of U.S. military fatalities, however, not success.

We are losing too many troops each month to a surge that has failed. This surge according to Bush was supposed to give Maliki enough breathing room to make political progress. But instead of making political progress, the Iraqi parliament has gone on vacation while our troops continue to die. Bush must set a date to get all troops out of Iraq in one year. The surge has failed. It is time to bring the troops home.

We might all do well to remember that we are basing our conclusions upon data that has been provided for us by the same U. S. military and Bush Administration who have provided changing stories regarding Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman, as well as a multitude of other critical issues. If anything, the real numbers may actually be even more at odds with the Administration's rosy pronouncements.

Yes, fewer Americans died in Iraq in July than in June. But before we invest too much emotion in that factoid, notice that there are always fewer fatalities in July than in June. Here's a table of fatalities-per-day for each month of the war:

         2003	2004	2005	2006	2007
JAN 1.68	4.10	2.06	2.77
FEB 0.82	2.14	2.07	3.04
MAR 1.68	1.26	1.06	2.65
APR	2.67	4.67	1.73	2.73	3.90
MAY	1.35	2.71	2.84	2.55	4.23
JUN	1.20	1.67	2.77	2.10	3.60
JUL	1.58	1.87	1.87	1.48	2.81
AUG	1.39	2.42	2.74	2.13
SEP	1.10	2.90	1.73	2.57
OCT	1.52	2.19	3.19	3.55
NOV	3.67	4.70	2.87	2.60
DEC	1.55	2.45	2.19	3.71

U.S. fatalities for each month of 2007 were considerably higher than the corresponding month in 2006. In July, they were almost double. In fact, the month-to-month ratio of 2007-to-2006 has been growing steadily since April: 1.43, 1.66, 1.71, 1.89.

It shows... CNN and Fox Noise have been oogling over how 'good' the surge has been.

Coming only 'slightly' down from RECORD highs is NOT exactly encouraging.

Perhaps more revelant is to look at same month figures for the war as seasonal factors also come into play.

July 2007 - 78
July 2006 - 43
July 2005 - 54
July 2004 - 54

As you can see, this July has been very substantially higher than any of the previous sweltering July's.

With the acquisition of Dresser Industries in 1998, the Kellogg-Brown & Root division (in 2002 renamed to KBR) was formed by merging Halliburton’s Brown & Root (acquired 1962) subsidiary and the M.W. Kellogg division of Dresser (which Dresser had merged with in 1988).

Prescott Bush (W’s grandfather and executive banker of Brown Brothers Harriman–Nazi Germany’s connection to Wall Street) was a director of Dresser Industries, which is now part of Halliburton. His son, George H. W. Bush, worked for Dresser Industries in several positions from 1948-1951.

When Halliburton is mentioned in the media, they might speak of MY connection, but they will never speak of the Bush family and Dresser !!!

The media should pay more attention to the total human cost to the military.

Comment by Seth — August 1, 2007 @ 12:31 pm

I've been wondering about that for a couple of years now. It's not unlike the way the Bush family manages to keep Prescott out of the limelight, or the family's net worth hidden, whilst attacking Kerry or Edwards for their money.

I never see any mention of wounded requiring evacuation, evacuated for medical reasons, or evacuated because of non-combat related injuries. I believe the total in these categories is about 36,000. When added to deaths of about 3,650 this becomes a more signigicant percentage of the troops engaged. The media should pay more attention to the total human cost to the military.

What has Bush lied about?

Comment by Philonous — August 1, 2007 @ 11:25 am

You're kidding -- right? David Corn has helpfully assembled many of Dubya's lies into a book, and you can read a sampling here: http://www.thenation.com/doc/20031013/corn

Here are a few more -- take a special look at lies #6 and #17: http://www.wsws.org/articles/2003/mar2003/bush-m20.shtml

And more: http://www.bushlies.net/index.html

This is just a short list. Try googling "george w bush lies" and you will get many links.

Except that he found the name on google and it also showed the number in which he died.

I have been discredited? By whom, you?

Again, I usually dont respond to idiots but the fact that you say that I saw his name on goggle and all that other nonsense, and that I saw what number he was when he died.

No I was the NCO who had to go to Diamondback (that's the FOB thats across from FOB Marez, where the mess hall was hit on 21 Dec 2004) and identify MY Soldier's remains, I trained with him everyday for 10 months before we went to Iraq, I and oteres were his as he was ours Brother, and the fact that TP deleted my post means nothing other than the fact that I let you get to me when I should not have.

The truth hurts, and you should be in a sling.

Re: Post #301 --

Clearly the U. S. troop deaths for July, 2007 of 78 (and sometimes additional numbers come in a day or two later), is the highest total for the month of July yet, but could you please explain the 23% increase figure?

The highest U. S. troop death total for any July in Iraq was 54 (July of 2004 and July of 2005) -- 78 so far in July, 2007 would represent an increase of 44% over the previous high.

If we were to compare this year's July total with the total for July, 2006 of 43, then the increase would be 81%.

To those who are touting the July, 2007 numbers as a measure of success, I know some used car salespersons who'd just love to do business with you.
