There will be light posting as ThinkProgress makes its way to Chicago for the second annual YearlyKos conference. This year’s conference marks the increasing influence of the progressive blogosphere: Five top presidential candidates will be attending, as will the top congressional leaders. August 1st, 2007 at 9:08 amSo how are things going, Bush worshippers? Things working out like you hoped? Still clinging to the belief that history will somehow vindicate your imbecile leader? Ain’t gonna happen, guys. Bush will go down in history as the worst president ever, and his blind fanatic supporters look like fools.

August 1st, 2007 at 9:50 amIs it just me or is dailykos.com the most annoying website to try reading? There is just so much going on on that page, unorganized, etc
August 1st, 2007 at 10:04 amEnjoy Chicago. Have a true chicago hotdog, catch a game at Wrigley (or the Cell if you have to) and get Manny’s if you can. Best corned beed sandwiches and potato pancakes around.

August 1st, 2007 at 10:48 amEver wonder why Trolls take the time to spit & sputter on a site they supposedly hate?
I wonder how many regular Tpers go to sites just to drop turds & run.
Not many, I would submit.
That’s the big difference between progressives & Neoturds. We like to discuss matters of mutual interest; they like to make accusations and spit out derogatory remarks. When we challenge the remarks, we’re accused of a wide range of ‘conspiratorial agendas’, but they’re the ones hanging out with people they don’t like.
Weird.
August 1st, 2007 at 10:49 amWhy would Eric take the time to come on to this site and spout

August 1st, 2007 at 11:03 amAs usual, you tastefully understate.
Methinks you all have a slightly inflated sense of your own power (see, I said that so much more nicely than Eric!).
If you disagree, please inform as to why impeachment proceedings have not begun yet.
That said, I would agree with Republic’s comment that the left is certainly using the web more effectively than the right.
August 1st, 2007 at 11:03 amCynicon, The power is of the people. There is no inflation of this. It’s plainly written out in the constitution. It’s the attack on the constitution that calls us out.
As to why impeachment proceedings haven’t begun yet is anyone’s (and everyone’s) guess. Not enough patriots on the republican side is my guess but I’m sure there will be other answers to your question.

August 1st, 2007 at 11:12 amI’m not sure your 2 premises go together, Cynicon. What specifically does a slightly (or extremely) inflated sense of power have to do w/ impeachment proceedings? The 2 are not directly linked, only tangentially.
Thank you for acknowledging my point about using the web. Yes, you are being more polite than Eric (who basically just vented his spleen).
I have to go eat breakfast. You all play civil now, ya hear???!!!

True enough. I guess we’ll see if they really have the stomach for impeachment. My guess is no, they’ll remember Clinton and the joke that was (even though he deserved some public rebuke, impeachment was going too far).

My point was that if you guys really had the Dem leadership by the short hairs (does Nancy shave? sorry, that was gratuitous), you could make them start impeachment proceedings immediately.
You definitely have some influence (Dem prez contenders going to YearlyKos) but so far a line has been drawn short of where you’d like it to be.

How true of the joke of impeaching Clinton. Clinton lied and was held up to scrutiny. The stakes are so much higher than a BJ now and the same people who pushed for impeachment are now silent when we have an habitual lying AG, a 4th branch of govt with the Veep and an aimless leader trying to fear us into continuing a wrong adventure.
There may not be enough votes to impeach but there is more than enough reasons to.

Pish posh. You obviously missed the Hopleaf, the Map Room, Goose Island, Piece, Resi’s Bierstube . . . etc . Not to mention, I was there for the Real Ale Festival which was (RIP) much larger and thorough than the cask festival in Seattle.
Nothing against Seattle, but the beer selection does tend to be ale-heavy.
There is room enough for more than one good beer city in the country.

katy, sometimes the juxta position adds flavor to the slam.
August 1st, 2007 at 12:00 pmi notice a comment about “impeachment” above…
good time to re-post this, from last evening…
[yesterday] on rachel maddow, she was talking about a gathering of
“newspeopleâ€, dems, progressives, who met this morning with
pelosi and dem leaders…
[then later] i heard ellen ratner (talk radio news) reporting on
thom hartmann about this meeting…
both times, impeachment was brought up and it was reported that
pelosi was adament that they stick to the schedule and not
bring up impeachment…
well, i found the transcript of that meeting, and i gather, from what
i read, that pelosi is NOT ruling out impeachment…
http://www.talkradionews.com/ newsandcommentary/ article.php?articleID=827
use cntrl “f†to find the word “impeachâ€, and read from there…
for example:
Mike Tomaski:
I read where Jay Ensley is going to introduce language today to impeach the Attorney General of whom you spoke. How do you feel about that? Would you support that?
Pelosi:
Well I would like us to stay focused on our agenda for this week. I tell you our big issue today and tomorrow will be S-Chip […] we’re going to do our energy bill this week as well. So I’d like to see it be a week where we just everyday go out there and say the legislation process has worked its will and this is what we’re sending to the President.
I have no objection to somebody introducing whatever they do, but I would hope the focus would be on accomplishments that we have for the American people.
There is some sentiment in the public that a lot of what we do it political when it comes to the administration, believe it or not. It would be impossible to exaggerate how they have taken our country down in terms of democratic principles- they the White House. However what we want to do is show accomplishment and then say, “okay we’ve made this difference, now lets deal with some of these issues.â€
We’ve for a long time jnow had Henry Waxman and others, Mr. Conyers and others pointing out what they are doing wrong. We have a contempt of congress that is lively right now. The committee acted, hopefully the administration will respond. If they do not we’ll have to act upon that.
So we have a full plate. If they want to add that to the plate, that’s fine but I don’t want it to be at the expense of reform, children’s health, energy independence.
[…]
go nancy… sounds like she’s being very careful to me…
