For example, check out that excellent bolding/italicizing in that sentence. What a word smith. Although the spelling could use some work.

    From The Gavel:

Chairman Waxman: “Much of our focus will be on a ‘Personal For’ message, also known as a ‘P4,’ that Major General Stanley McChrystal sent on April 29, 2004. This P4 alerted his superiors that despite press reports that Corporal Tillman died fighting the enemy, it was ‘highly possible that Corporal Tillman was killed by friendly fire.’ Three officers received this P4 report: Lt. General Kensinger, General Abizaid, and General Brown… The Committee did issue a subpoena to General Kensinger earlier this week, but U.S. Marshals have been unable to locate or serve him.”

  17. Egreggious, Esq. says:

    From the Washington Post:

The night before the government secured a guilty plea from the manufacturer of the addictive painkiller OxyContin, a senior Justice Department official called the U.S. attorney handling the case and, at the behest of an executive for the drugmaker, urged him to slow down, the prosecutor told the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday.

John L. Brownlee, the U.S. attorney in Roanoke, testified that he was at home the evening of Oct. 24 when he received the call on his cellphone from Michael J. Elston, then chief of staff to the deputy attorney general and one of the Justice aides involved in the removal of nine U.S. attorneys last year.

Brownlee settled the case anyway. Eight days later, his name appeared on a list compiled by Elston of prosecutors that officials had suggested be fired.

Sunni bloc quits as 73 killed in bombings

By Mariam Karouny and Paul Tait
    BAGHDAD (Reuters) –

The main Sunni Arab political bloc quit the Iraqi government on Wednesday in a blow to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s shaky coalition as suicide bombers killed more than 70 people in three attacks across Baghdad.

The resignation move pushed the government into a new crisis undermining its efforts to reconcile Iraqis and end sectarian strife.

  43. Egreggious, Esq. says:

But I thought the surge had just begun?

BAGHDAD (AFP) – The number of Iraqi civilians killed in the country’s brutal civil conflict rose by more than a third in July despite a five-month-old surge in US troop levels, government figures showed Wednesday.

At least 1,652 civilians were killed in Iraq in July, 33 percent more than in the previous month, according to figures compiled by the Iraqi health, defence and interior ministries and made available to AFP.

And they built their support there by having done so. That kind of diplomacy is something that would help America become stronger around the world and help people understand that our interest is an interest towards modernity and goodness and freedom for all people in the world. For most other occupations, “internship” is code for “cheap labor.” A recent college grad has zero to do with the qualifications you seek.

I was really surprised to see TP engaging in this corporate invention. It all sounds so good…until you think about it.

We used to label these matters “discrimination.” Those who can’t afford college need not apply; young people only.

Not impressed when companies do this. Especially here.

More Evidence That Liberals Are Beyond Parody

Wow. You know how the other day I was saying someone could just take something a liberal blogger wrote and claim it was instead a brilliant parody of a liberal, well I just found a recommended diary at Kos I wish I wrote. Here’s part of it:

The most important people in Democratic politics don’t even know it.
It’s the kid with the anger in his eyes I saw on my way to the swimming pool…anger at the injustice of a school system that’s written him off in the fifth grade…anger at a society that tells him every day that he is less than a full citizen because of the color of his skin just like his dad and his uncles.

It’s the overweight mom I see in my neighborhood. The one with two young children who has pre-diabetes and doesn’t know it yet. She lives in a society that won’t give her preventative care or nutritional education, but which underwrites big corporations that sell her super-sized food that is silently eating away at her body.

It’s that girl I saw on the subway who looked at me with that curious stare. She doesn’t even know about global warming.

the most important person in Democratic politics is you.

Read the whole thing. I was thinking of fisking it, but I don’t think I could add to the hilarity. It’s like a mixture between a brain dead college activist and a third grader. And this is a recommended diary. As you read it, just imagine the Kos Kids staring at it with their wide monkey eyes and nodding along in agreement at its vast wisdom. Some claimed to have cried reading it. I just want to find one of these people, pat him on the head and say, “Lighten up, Francis.”

    Comment by NoMoreBush — August 1, 2007 @ 11:07 am

Al Gore never said he invented the Internet. He said that he pushed the legislation that created the PUBLIC INTERNET. Because up until that point, it was only available to researchers at DARPA and universities like MIT.

So, while he didn’t invent the Internet, he was responsible for bringing it to the public, so you could show everybody how stupid you are for repeating republican talking points.

  82. dixie blood says:

    Interships are slave labor!!

Organization and corporations shoud hire people who need a job and give them benefits.

Don’t hide behind the guise of “triaining the next generation.” Interns don’t usually get to observe real top-level professionals or get a mentor with a top-level postion. They usually do UNPAID grunt work!!!

    And it’s a shame!!

    TP,

You can do better. You could hire people and give them a job with health care benefits. It’s the least you can do!!!

  83. dixie blood says:

Since corps don’t pay for interns then they should allow them to learn rather than slave away for nothing.

Universities need to step up and stop this bullsh!t. They take money from the students who goe out and run coffee errands for low level employees and then get “credit” for said “experience.”

    What a scam!!!

  84. Wayne says:

    Comment by dixie blood

Wrong, Interns are usually students, college mostly. And some programs at the college has the student intern their senior year at least in a job that deals with their degree path.
When I was a system admin for an isp, I trained many interns from the local colleges. Some even applied to work for us after they finished. Some of our best techs were interns.

It is a chance for them to learn ( yes they work or train ) They get to know what they learned in college is sometimes years beyond the curve, in the tech world at least.

In the majority of cases, “interns” are just what TP intends them to be: Cheap labor. I’m not buying your argument, which is typical corporate spin.

In the high-tech world, jobs were exported to India, and thousands upon thousands of higher paid, high-tech workers were laid off. Right after this occurs (and I can prove it time and time again), “interns” are brought in to do the same work. We’re all supposed to smile warmly at how socially conscious high-tech companies can be.

    Bull…shit.

The abilities TP had the gall to list do not require a college education. Some of the smartest people I know never graduated from a college.

Too bad for Think Progress to post this call, as I now have a low opinion of this organization.
