Today, CNN Headline News’s right-wing host Glenn Beck had a personal “off-the-record” meeting with President Bush at the White House. Beck’s insights from this meeting include that Bush “is a man who personally feels the pain of every wounded hero” and has “incredible passion and resolve.” From Beck’s show tonight:
Let me tell you the whole story on this. He feels the pain of every wounded hero, every lonely, grieving parent this war has caused. He is a man who understands the heavy cost that we are paying, but who believes with every ounce of his being that we are in the fight for our very survival, a fight that’s importance can only be judged fairly decades from now, and I believe a fight he is willing to be judged harshly for until that time comes, even if he’s long dead.
I can also tell you that he’s — frustrated is not exactly the right word — hopeful, yet frustrated. He’s so frustrated that so many people are so myopic that they have lost sight of the forest through the trees.
Beck isn’t the first journalist to receive an exclusive meeting with President and walk away with nothing but superficial observations. In fact, Bush seems to exclusively invite journalists who won’t criticize him. The main insight New York Times columnist David Brooks was able to offer after a 110-minute meeting with Bush was that the President’s “self-confidence” is “remarkable.”
Beck also added that Bush specifically mentioned the work of Brookings Institution analyst Michael O’Hanlon to support his policies.
UPDATE: Video has been added. Achorn has more HERE.
Transcript:
BECK: But first, earlier today I had an opportunity to sit down in the Oval Office with the President of the United States for an honest, frank, off-the-record conversation about the war in Iraq and other things. The meeting happened just a few hours ago, so i’m still trying to digest everything and obviously remember everything.
I really couldn’t even take a pencil or piece of paper into the meeting. Tomorrow on the radio program I hope to be able tell you exactly what it is like to be an average schmo who grew up in his dad’s bakery sitting eye-to-eye with a guy you’ve both strongly supported and strongly challenged, and he’s the leader of the free world. It was a little strange. I hope you can join me on the radio tomorrow.
But tonight, I want to give you some of my initial reactions. Although I agreed to not quote him directly, I can tell you this, President Bush is a man who personally feels the pain of every lost soldier. Join me tomorrow.
He’s frustrated that so many powerful forces that are truly at stake and who our enemies really are have lined up against the war on terror because it’s politically expedient.
But above all, I can tell you that the President has incredible passion and resolve. I have not seen this George W. Bush since he had a fire truck behind him and a bull horn in his hand. He was so clear-minded, he was focused. This is not the guy you see on television. Wolf Blitzer and I were talking about it before I went on the air. He has the same experience with him.
He is so focused and confident. He’s confident that the military he loves so much, the soldiers that he thinks of as his own family — I’m not kidding you — will not only win the hearts and minds of the iraqi people, but also the American ones as well.
Now, a name that did come up with the President today in our meeting is the name Michael O’Hanlon.

Did I read that right? Did you just call Glenn Beck a journalist
He was the freakin’ morning drive time top-40 DJ in New Haven, CT not so long ago, doing schtick and funny voices. From what I can tell, he’s still doing the same. But he’s certainly no journalist.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:45 amBush, Beck, O’Hanlon — sounds like good company.
With critical thinkers on Iraq like Beck and Bush, O’Hanlon should totally be taken seriously.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:52 amIt is now where white trash gather to salute their own.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:52 am“lost sight of the forest through the trees”
er… lost sight of the genocide through the deaths?
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:52 am“The most trusted name in news.”
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:53 amI new thread???
Well I’ll be…
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:58 amwell, fancy that. Two morons commiserating-”nobody understands me”. The shame of America, on CNN.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:01 amWow. What an in-depth conversation those two had. For all we know, Beck could have watched a videotape of Bush and said the same thing. What a joke!
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:09 amAnd by the way, how paranoid is Bush that he won’t even let a partisan hack like Glenn Beck quote him directly?
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:14 amHow does this guy get an hour of his own television show every night? Beck’s analysis & insight taken from his tet-a tet with the prez has a certain shall we say, 3rd grader quality to it. Love Bush … hate Bush … whatever. just don’t be such a cheap media whore.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:15 amKnowing the Bush is “willing to be judged harshly for until that time comes,” make me feel so much better. He is willing to be hated by this nation and the world and will still pursue the repulsive and inhumane policies that produce such hate.
That’s not self-confidence. That’s ego-maniacal delusions of grandeur.
And Beck is so sycophantically admiring of this because he suffers from the same psychosis. No matter how poor his ratings, he still pursues his agenda of lies and self-promotion.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:16 amHe feels the pain of every wounded hero, […]
If that is true, if he can really feel the pain of every wounded soldier, then he must be on a lot of pain killers. Otherwise American troops would already be out of Iraq.
He is a man who understands the heavy cost that we are paying,
I bet he understand that it’s going to cost, uh… oh, a number 4 followed by, er, a lot of zeros.
but who believes with every ounce of his being that we are in the fight for our very survival,
And you believed this claptrap? “Our very survival”? How does AlQaeda or the insurgency in Iraq threaten the survival of the US?
Since when is apocalyptic nonsense foreign policy?
a fight that’s importance can only be judged fairly decades from now,
Given Pres Bush track record, I wouldn’t put much stock on what he believes, much less on his foresight
.
and I believe a fight he is willing to be judged harshly for until that time comes, even if he’s long dead.
If the worst he has to fear from starting a war of choice against a country that posed no threat, is to be “judged harshly” (after he’s dead to boot), I’d say it’s no wonder he is not losing any sleep as countless people die in Iraq.
He’s so frustrated that so many people are so myopic […]
This one is worthy of a Monty Python skit. So now the the people who deplore the death and destruction in Iraq are the myopic ones? Who knew!?
Yeah, Pres W Bush -that poor, lonely, misunderstood genius. Right.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:19 amSuprise!!

August 2nd, 2007 at 1:19 amThree psychos in a Quagmire, which one is the most insane? “Let it be me…” - Cheney; “Let it be ME,” - Rummy; “Let it be MEEEEE.” - Bush…
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:29 amAnd now CNN wants to add Laura Ingram to their nutjob amen corner. She will soon be trying out in the Paula Zahn slot.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:47 amSean Hannity and Bill Bennett were also at this little gasbag get together.

August 2nd, 2007 at 1:53 ami uploaded the video of beck fawning over bush to youtube.. heres the link:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Wo3ltG0gwjY
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:53 amNow Bush feels pain while he was part of the murder of Pat Tillman and close to 4000 other soldiers. Who feels more pain the soldiers who were injured for life or Bush who is living the good life. Notice Bush didn’t go when his country needed him he chicken out like the drunken coward he is. Bush can blame his actions on his alcoholic problem or his Dad but he will get have to answer to God for his evil acts. The sad thing is the American people let him continue as they now know Bush is incompetent and a drunk. As the Middle East uses the Bush Administration and Israel gets weapons and money from the US. American taxpayers will have to pay for what Bush has done. Right now the World Leaders are laughing at how the American people allow this idiot Bush continue. I hope when Bush/Rummy/ Generals/Rove/Cheney/Rice close their eyes they see the soldiers they killed and yes Pat Tillman too.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:56 amI’m sorry, I don’t watch CNN. Who is this person Glen Beck?
August 2nd, 2007 at 2:13 amI wonder how much taxpayer cash these guys are dropping on thier desparate PR surge….
August 2nd, 2007 at 2:16 amThe David Brooks crack is misguided. He’s not an angel, but in this case he was using the term ‘remarkable’ in a truly objective sense. I think the balance of the quote was “With everything that is going wrong right now, his self-confidence is truly remarkable.” When I heard that on MTP last Sunday, I took it as equivalent to saying that GWB is delusional such that his self-confidence is abnormal.
Bush has very few friends now. Organizations on the left might want to start siding with ‘enemies of our enemies’ to get things back working. A progressive Republican is 1000x better than a conservative anything.
August 2nd, 2007 at 2:29 amThat just stinks of PROPAGANDA.
August 2nd, 2007 at 2:45 amBeck is a fascist, and a Bush lover, so that is why Dubya met with him.
August 2nd, 2007 at 2:59 amPassionate?
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:00 amGet a room, guys.
Stop insulting “journalists”. Beck is not a journalist nor does he claim to be one, he is an admitted rodeo clown, hatemonger, Conservative, alcoholic, entertainer, homophob but not a journalist. Dont watch his show much do you? The clairvoyance of the loony left is simply amazing to watch.
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:07 amwhat in the hell is Beck wearing on his left breast? was he auditioning for Star Trek?

What a ignatic question….dont watch the show do you…..so you know nothing about it. Thats the spinning, computer generated icon (bug) of the show. Its not on his suit at all………..geeze man.
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:33 amyea he understands like Glenn Beck understands. We have to kill Iraqis so we can steal their Oil. Why are we stealing their oil? So we can avoid facing up to the Oil crisis for now.
Kill or fall into an even greater depression then ever before. Whats it gonna be America?
that’s what I thought.
I don’t expect anyone to put these things together anytime soon.
Crooks and Liars.com did a piece on peek Oil FINALLY but failed to mention Iraq.
Do you people really need everything spelled out to you? We are a selfish nation. We don’t even take care of ourselves. You think you care about the Iraqi people. But you care more about high gas prices in truth.
You think a politician is going to tell you these things? Or thinkprogress or crooks and Liars? No because they have an agenda.
I on the other hand am a free thinking individual with no ties to either side so I have no problem telling you the real truth.
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:53 amLet me guess, he smelled of English Leather and all that dad stuff, too, right?
Oy, these people…
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:59 am…we can steal their Oil.

Halliburton wouldn’t do that; would they ?
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:00 amNarcissist Bush: “…feels the pain of every wounded hero…”
No, Bush, that’s your pain from being widely hated.
Narcissist Bush: “…understands the heavy cost that we are paying…”
No, Bush, you hide the cost by hiding the coffins.
Narcissist Bush: “…[believes] we are in the fight for our very survival…”
No, Bush, you’ve got that mixed up with your own fight for survival.
Narcissist Bush: “…[is] so frustrated that so many people are so myopic…”
No, Bush, you’re the one who is myopic.
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:08 amhow offen do you get two nit wits of this caliber in one room? this has to be some sort of a record?
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:54 amOne moron complimenting another….big deal.
August 2nd, 2007 at 5:51 am.the heavy cost that “we” are paying.. who is the “we”? We(right wingers) are probably getting a tax break from this crook while we project 1 trillion for the cost of this war. wake up, frat boy!
August 2nd, 2007 at 6:44 amBeck is a whore posing as a news reporter.
August 2nd, 2007 at 7:02 amHe sold his soul… to a dying regime.
He feels the wound of every pained soldier.
August 2nd, 2007 at 7:10 amuh, okay tokyo rose.
August 2nd, 2007 at 7:11 amBeck is certainly a BushCo butt-kisser and a reichwingnut of the highest caliber. But I really like his music — especially “Devil’s Haircut”; that’s some rockin’ jams.
Oh wait…you mean there’s TWO Becks???

Have you ever had one? When its over you feel like a million bucks….from that great hospital dope they use…the best. And the hose job is not bad either, if you are into that kind of thing…hey I am no Barney Frank or anything like that but I like that fresh clean feeling one gets from the procedure.
August 2nd, 2007 at 7:58 amBeck had to stop by to personally pick up his talking points.
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:03 am“incredible passion and resolve”? Same could be said for every dictator and warmonger trhrough history.
“He is a man who understands the heavy cost that we are paying, but who believes with every ounce of his being that we are in the fight for our very survival…” is Beck talkinh about the Republican Party here?
Glen Beck is a guy who should be earining his living washing dishes or cleaning toilets. For that he may be qualified. He is in no way qualified to be a news commentator. CNN besmirches its reputation by putting this moron on.
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:07 amWhat about Rush? When is he going to get his one on one with our manichean wonder? Wow, then Glenn gets to go on TV, his OWN TV show and talk about it. Man can you imagine how poor little Rushbo must be feeling. 19 years in the biz and a rookie like Glenn Beck scores a one on one with the president?
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:20 amI’ve got some pain for him, right here.
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:21 amIs Osama bin Laden in the forest or the trees?
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:25 amThe fact that Bush only meets with the most extreme, unhinged lunatics of the far, far right doesn’t surprise me. They’re the only ones who take the blithering imbecile seriously. BUT, why is ThinkProgress calling Beck a “journalist”? Is there any basis for this? Since when did being a shockjock make someone a journalist?
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:33 am“who believes with every ounce of his being that we are in the fight for our very survival”
Once again the obvious question is raised; if this is true, then why not start a draft and send another 100K troops over there? If this really were a threat to our very existence, wouldn’t you think he’d want to send a dominating force over there to take care of it?
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:37 am49. McStubbins. Touche. Point well-made.
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:54 amI’m sure every sadist “feels” his victim’s pain.
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:58 amWhat a great country this is, where tools who wouldn’t be able to keep a job like the average Joe or Jane have to work can become multi-millionaires by spewing their insane drivel on television.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:07 amIt’s time to give Hugo Chavez his own show on CNN. THAT would be a fair equivalent to the simpering Beck.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:13 amBeck’s ratings are abysmal and yet CNN keeps this ignorant hack on the air. Goes to show how CNN thinks its viewers are morons and continues to insult their intelligence. Then again the few who do watch I guess proves them right!
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:17 amWell, that explains everything, all the confusion of the last six years. if the President is worried that people have lost sight of “the forest through the trees.” That phrase makes no sense; the correct idiom is not seeing the forest for the trees.
Who’d have thought this whole sad presidency could be summed up by one mis-phrased idiom?

August 2nd, 2007 at 9:21 amI’m so comforted to know that Bush doesn’t give a rat’s buttski about what anyone thinks of his mis-adventure!

He’s reckless, dangerous and delulsional.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:31 amThe Cult of Personality is at it again.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:33 amWhat that ignorant moron calls resolve, is called drunken, bullheadedness by most thinking people. There are 28% of Americans in the Dubya base…go figure where Beck fits in.

August 2nd, 2007 at 9:41 amA friend of mine attended one of these meetings. Bush had a note pad and was writing stuff. Friend glanced over to see what he was writing.
Discussion was Iraq and Saddam’s atrocities - and how he’d cut off hands, limbs, ears, other body parts of dissenters.
On his pad, Bush wrote “earless Iraqis.”
True story. “Passion” and “resolve” do not good policy make.

Somehow, I don’t think Rush, with his $45 million per year contract (to do a radio show from his home in Florida), is going to worry too much about it.
Now there’s good work, if you can get it!
I don’t think Glenn Beck is quite in that league, yet.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:48 amWho is this Beck? Another friggin moron?
Comment by Juan C — August 2, 2007 @ 9:38 am
Oh Juan - don’t watch this guy if you want to keep your dinner down. He’s a smarmy, icky, repugnant, puffy doughboy. I’ve written to CNN several times asking them why they continue to give him a platform.
In short, he’s an awful, hateful apologist for the worst traits of the right wing.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:50 amLet us not forget that during his early embryonic days, Hitler also had his team of delusional mouthpieces in the media; all of them singing his praise about what a charmingly intricate mind he was / is. Most of them lived long enough to see the folly of their gullibility, at the expense of their own credibility (if any), being flushed down the toilet and into the putrid sewers of history. So too will be the ugly and deserved fate of the likes of Beck, O’Rielly, Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity and all of the other crackpots who, through the power of their public microphones, have made every effort to “suit up” the naked emperor. Putting lipstick on a pig, doesn’t change the underlying fact that it’s still very much a pig. And Bush is still as big a dud as I have ever seen.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:51 amThis is such a pile of bushwa (come to think of it, that’s an even more appropriate term than I intended), and I made the mistake of consuming it right after breakfast. Gag me.
I can’t help noticing that Bush will readily go into his “I feel such pain” act for his water carriers, but will hide under the bed at his ranch when somebody who has been personally and directly affected by his stupid war (Cindy Sheehan) wants to talk to him. He’s nothing but a slick-talking coward.
I have no doubt about Bush’s resolve. He has put all of his chips on a single roulette number, and he’s determined it will eventually pay off. He has already demonstrated that he is capable of flying at full speed into a solid stone wall without turning or blinking. This is not something that makes me feel more secure — this is something that scares the daylights out of me.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:53 amThe only “very survival” we may be in this fight for is Bush’s. The day it ends, whatever that means, life goes on. A much more demoralized life but life goes on. Bush will then feel the pain of his failure to lead America.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:56 amBeck is NOT a journalist. He is a former DJ who had family tragedies which led to personal addictions and more family problems. His only claim to fame is that he has a loud mouth, which runs off without any interference from his brain, and he is a short-sighted, shallow-minded individual, much like the man who gave him credentials worthy of a personal invitation to the Oval Office. Bush is so desperate to surround himself with an army of sycophants, he reaches out to the likes of Beck: hopelessly in over his head, having reached his Peter Principle. Peas in a pod.
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:00 amIn short, he’s an awful, hateful apologist for the worst traits of the right wing.

Ive seen him on TV. But I zap away. His loud voice is annoying and he is not…well, a graduate lecturer.
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:03 amDo we need to know about this? Bush and Beck should “get a room”…
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:07 amO Bigfoot, I have to disagree with your point. Glenn beck is on TV, Rush could certainly buy his own TV show, but his envy for Katie Couric and the fact that he didn’t want to go as a groupie with the last bunch of Deadbandwith dudes, the Glenn Beck interview is exactly what he can’t have, a one on one with the DearLeader and then go on TV.

So how does that threaten our very survival? Are you saying we’re still every bit as vulnerable as were on Sept 10 2001? Are you saying there are enough airliners taking off that this nation could be destroyed?
Sit back, take a deep breath and look around you, O. Bigfoot-in-Bigmouth. Maybe you just see a weaker nation than I do. But I don’t see a serious threat to the survival of teh United States.

Disagree all you want. If I could make $45 million per year spending 4 hours per day, five days per week, talking on the radio (except for when I am golfing, attending a sports game, going to a dinner party, or sailing around on my yacht, when a guest host fills in at will), I wouldn’t be all that concerned with whom I interview.
If you listen to Rush’s show, he rarely interviews anyone. He reads some news, talks some politics, gives his opinion, takes some calls, and gives his opinion. That is his format.
13.5 million listeners per week seem to appreciate that format.
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:31 amMcDonald’s has served billions. Doesn’t mean it’s good for you. Quantity doesn’t equate to quality and quality (i.e facts) is something that Rush avoids more than security guards at the airport.

Comment by spit take — August 2, 2007 @ 10:18 am”
Apparently what you are saying, spit take, is that it is perfectly acceptable to you for Al Qaeda to exist, as long as they only kill a few thousand here in the United States at one time? As long as they only target a couple of symbols of capitalism, or only target the Pentagon, Capital Building, or White House once in a while? You seem to be a pretty accepting person. Think of how you would feel if any of your family were in the World Trade Center.
I am not willing to accept that. As long a one member of Al Qaeda survives, then there is one more radical militant muslim to eliminate.

One thing you are appearing to not understand: It does not matter, hellinabucket. People keep eating at McDonald’s, and people keep listening to Rush.
Apparently, folks like to decide for themselves what’s good for them or not, rather than have other folks make their decisions for them.
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:40 amWhat utter horsesh!t. I don’t believe George W. Bush feels anyone’s pain. I don’t believe he is capable either of sympathy or the “compassion” that he campaigned on back in 2000. He’s demonstrated far too many sociopathic tendencies at this point for me to buy any of that garbage.
We’re myopic, eh? Oh, the IRONY! What is it about small men in positions of great authority that they must project their own inadequacies upon those who challenge them? I seem to recall Hitler, in his final days in the bunker, blaming the inadequate resolve of the German people for the failure of the German campaigns in World War II. Are we supposed to define Bush’s proclivity to blame everyone else for his failures and incompetence as “leadership??” I sure as hell don’t, and I can only hope that this administration will remain in the historical record as little more than a blemish upon our national experience—a comma, if you will.
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:45 amYou are right that people don’t care what they put into themselves. Whether it’s bad food or bad information. Thanks for proving that point. I don’t decide for anyone but myself. I look at evidence and search for the truth. If you are happy listening to the rustling of paper and disconjointed ideas from someone who is an entertainer and believing all the entertainer says than good for you.
I’ll look a little harder for the real story. I’ll also not be afaid to confront the blowhards or the bigfoots when they are wrong.
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:48 am(during recent hoedown w/PM Brown…)
Before the president left the news conference, he advised BBC correspondent Nick Robinson: “You better cover up your bald head.”
“I never knew you cared,” Robinson said.
“I don’t,” Bush called back.
(just another classic exchange that tells all one needs to know about the depth of Lil’ Boots’ “compassion”)
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:54 amSo now the Republican wrong-wingers LIKE a president who “feels their pain”.
Make up your mind asshats.

August 2nd, 2007 at 11:01 amHey Glenn Beck, that brown lipstick looks really good on you!
Dumbass.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:09 amgot a little of it on his nose as well.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:11 amMemo to CNN, it’s over. No amount of BS can salvage little boots. Lara Ingram will do as poorly as beck. Patriotic Americans helped put an end to fascism. Freedom loving Americans are repulsed by Mussolini. If lil boots had never been elected maybe we wouldn’t have taken a closer look at Poppy and Prescott and realized that lil boots isn’t a total moron-this was all intentional. Prescott committed treason, Poppy sold his country out for Arab oil (just ask real Texas oilmen-not Conneticut carpetbaggers). A one hundred year history of treason is not going to be spun away by closet fascist, and history will remember lil boots as well as it has remembered hitler and mussolini. Just please spare us the crocodile tears, he cares about Pat Tillman and all the other people who have died about as much as he had compassion for Carla Faye Tucker. In short he might not be that bright-but he is definately that evil.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:20 amHe’s so frustrated that so many people are so myopic that they have lost sight of the forest through the trees.
I share the President’s frustration. Most people seem to be oblivious to the threat from Islamic jihadists (although they have declared war on us and have made dozens of attacks upon us, with increasing intensity). Many turn a blind eye towards Islamic intolerance (for partisan expedience). And let their total opposition to sacrifice paralyze them in regards to defending their liberty - which they take for granted.

Tell me again what this bunch of Chickenhawks in the BushCo Cabal have done to fight terrorism?
If you say ANYTHING about Iraq, I want to hear WHY?????
And why no fighting to catch OBL, nothing to go after the biggest supporters of the 90/11 attack, Saudi.
And why are they destroyinbg our military and letting it be run by NeoCons, not the generals and admirals?
AND…. it is the majority of the people in this country (like over 70%) who ARE trying to take our country back and regain at least some of our liberty.
Would love to hear your responses.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:37 am…..psst, Glennn, got a little something on the corner of your mouth there, bud - and hey! - what the hell is that on your nose!!?
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:41 amI was sliding along the radio dial this morning and came upon Laura Ingraham. She too was gushing about the ‘resolve’ and ‘confidence’ oozing from Bush. Apparently, Bush had some of his right wing megaphones over so Karl could give them this weeks’ talking points. They did the same thing a couple of months ago with others of that ilk. Laura was conspiratorial in tone ( She couldn’t tell us what Bush said, it’s a secret) but was amazed at his confidence.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:45 amHeck, who wouldn’t be, the man either is delusional (there’s a good chance of that) or knows about an upcoming event that is supposed to save the day. That upcoming event should concern us all.
There is a concerted effort by the right wing echo chamber to label the events in Iraq as successful (i.e. the surge is working) and that we must stay the course.
Really?
That strategy has worked well so far, and the surge is no different. Like one poster said, if we are really in a battle for civilization, why are we fighting it like it’s a stalling tactic? Those familiar with the writings of Leo Strauss, and the neo con movement already know the answer. The goal is not victory, the goal is perpetual war (and perpetual fear) to control the world’s oil resources. It’s all right there in their literature. Read.
Hey Bigfoot. Al Qaeda is a CIA invention. Look it up.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:49 amYou have been had.
I agree with paul that too many have taken their liberty for granted. They’ve also taken their responsiblility to be ever watchful of the govt. and given it to the very ones that need to be watched.
If there was true resolve in destroying Al Qiada then we’d have OBL’s head on a stick by now. The taliban would be nothing but a memory and We’d be talking about permanent bases in friendly Afghanistan instead of the quagmire in Iraq.
Bush doesn’t hold the patent on patriotism. In fact, his actions for more secrecy and greater powers for the executive branch and his overtended uses of Executive privilege and signing statements go directly against what this country stands for. Or used to stand for.
Beware who you ask to keep you safe.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:56 amAnother Bush lie when he says he feels the pain of the injured heros. Psychopaths to do not feel the pain of others.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:02 pmOne can only surmise from Beck’s drug induced dribble, that
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:04 pmBush is Jesus Christ, ready and willing to sacrifice his reputation for the vision that will be manifest long after we are dead!
Do they really think we are that stupid???? My God, Pres. Lincoln would kick this resident out of the White House as soon as he saw him.
STOP THIS DRIBBLE, PLEASE!
Bush feels nothing — HE IS A SOCIOPATH!., along with Rummy, Cheney
and Rice. I take that back : Bush is an evil sociopath. The others are just plain evil.
If there was true resolve in destroying Al Qiada then we’d have OBL’s head on a stick by now. The taliban would be nothing but a memory and We’d be talking about permanent bases in friendly Afghanistan instead of the quagmire in Iraq.
Comment by hellinabucket — August 2, 2007 @ 11:56 am
That’s why, with Osama surrounded on three sides, we let him escape to Pakistan, and, before getting legal authorization, they started shifting resources away from Afghanistan and into Iraq. We started the war against Iraq long before Sept. 11; and also threatened Afghanistan and the Taleban before Sept. 11. Not because of terrorism, but because the U.S. backed Energy companies wanted a trans Afghanistan pipeline, and we were threatening them (again, before 9/11) with ‘a carpet of gold or a carpet of bombs’.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:05 pmIf we wanted to win, we would have behaved very differently.
Part 2: I recall that Hitler used to have his cronies in the media
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:08 pmpraise him to the hills,…on what a great visionary leader he was and his
deep feeling for the people….
Having these synchophants meet with him without pen, paper or any transciption of the supposed “meeting”
is EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING…..PLEASE AMERICA WAKE UP! before it’s too late!
I would find Bush more believable if he had included Thom Hartman in this little gathering.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:22 pmBen Gleck is desperate for acceptance. He’d do anything to curry the favor of the powerful.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:23 pmApparently what you are saying, spit take, is that it is perfectly acceptable to you for Al Qaeda to exist, as long as they only kill a few thousand here in the United States at one time? As long as they only target a couple of symbols of capitalism, or only target the Pentagon, Capital Building, or White House once in a while? You seem to be a pretty accepting person. Think of how you would feel if any of your family were in the World Trade Center.
I am not willing to accept that. As long a one member of Al Qaeda survives, then there is one more radical militant muslim to eliminate.
Comment by O. Bigfoot — August 2, 2007 @ 10:38 am
Nice straw man, but “it is perfectly acceptable for Al Qaeda to exist, as long as they only kill a few thousand here in the United States at one time” is NOT what I said.
What I asked was “So how does that threaten our very survival?” and what I SAID was I don’t see a serious threat to the survival of the United States.
I never said any of the things you listed were acceptable. I never said anything that would even lead anyone reasonable and honest to interpret what I said the way you did.
You seem to think that killing “a few thousand here in the United States at one time” or targeting “a couple of symbols of capitalism” can destroy this great country.
I don’t.
You can pretend that this makes me blasé about the threat, but you’re wrong. I just keep it in a different perspective than you do and I try to not get too overheated about it. By the way, a friend of mine was in the one of the towers when it was hit. He got out safely. Thanks for your concern.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:27 pmWhat a small little man, Glenn Beck is.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:50 pmObnoxious though he may be, Beck is not stupid enough to believe this garbage. He has made a clear-cut choice to shill for the administration, reducing CNN’s already waning credibility.
Poor Ted Turner’s highest-profile offspring has grown up to be a whore.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:55 pmBy the way, rumor has it that Beck wore a blue dress to the White House…
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:57 pmBeck brought his knee pads and his special ball waxing rag for this occasion.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:21 pmOh, come on, folks! I’m totally confident that our tyrannical megalomaniac-in-Chief does feel the pain of each of our wounded, or killed soldiers, and their families. You see, by definition, that’s how tyrants feed their lust.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:24 pmBeck informs us that he feels the pain (no quotes), and then the next day Mr. Bush shows his resilience to the pain of children by indicating that he will veto the SCHIP because it “too expensive”. Very typical thought meandering of a tyrant.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:30 pmI couldn’t get thru the entire video. It’s sickening! Glenn Beck looks like he’s about to ejaculate all over the screen in real time. He is in love with GWB! I hope that we can see the blue dress that he went to the WH with some time in the near future.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:40 pmComment by spit take — August 2, 2007 @ 12:27 pm
Not only did BigFoot change the subject, he also ignored the fact that his Glorious (mis)Leader already defined success in the (phony) “war on terror” as “a level of violence where the people feel comfortable about living their daily lives.” Note how he shies away from any talk about eliminating the threat completely.
So, BigFoot in his attempt at a put down at you, also took a swipe at his Dear (mis)Leader. Oh, the irony.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:41 pmGlenn Beck, according to at least one NeoWack on this site, is a “thinker.”
:: BARF ::
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:52 pmI wonder how much Beck got paid for that performance…
August 2nd, 2007 at 2:33 pmHow does that bigoted ignoramous, aka douche bag get to meet with the freaking president?
Impeach.
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:03 pmFailure best decribes Bush’s tenure. I bet his self confidence is quite high …stole two elections in a row. Misleading a country into a criminal war with no end in sight. GW God put you there… at least so they say. But, He put you there to PUNISH America. He just put you there and that doesn’t mean He supports you! You’re on your own GW. God is having a blast watching the Bush freak screw up royally over and over. God is giving Bush all the leg-room he needs to bring this country to it’s knees. Go for it GW knock yourself out decider dictator whatever! Just hold on to that vicious greed of yours …the rest will flow naturally! Run up the tab! You’re not paying for it GW. The American pay for it! Lets’ hear it hard and loud!!!
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:09 pmwhat would America do without Oil? We’d be stopped in our tracks. there for it is ourr survival. but political correctness forces Bush to lie and say it’s some ideological struggle.
We desperately need that oil people. wake up.
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:11 pmuuummmmm….Glenbaby likes milk from the teats of power..it tastes soooo good!
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:45 pmReally? I think most people are aware of the risk, they just happen to rank it lower than a number of other risks.
For example, I ride a motorcycle everyday, commuting 60 miles a day. My risk of being killed or maimed by someone “driving” a car whilst on the cell phone is WAY higher than being maimed or killed by the jihadi.
We have a very basic difference of opinion here. I happen to think that an effective anti-terrorism program consists mainly of good detective work, vetted intelligence data, and the cooperation of people in the Middle East.
Our illustrious President seems to think a good “War on Terrah” consists of spying on everyone, including formerly protected Americans, and putting a boot on the neck of any country he deems to be “Evil”.
The President SHOULD be frustrated. I hope he becomes MORE frustrated.
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:07 pmBeck’s gonna get polyps on his lips, if he sticks his head any further up Bush’s sock puppet…
The Dumb leading the dumber, anyone with an IQ over 80 considers Beck a joke…
But, considering they hired him to take some of Fox’s dumbed-down audience, that should come as no surprise.
Beck’s the biggest wannabe in media these days, and Bush, the failed President, uplifting Beck, the failed 4th Estater, reminds me of at least two of the three stooges…
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:20 pm“Most people seem to be oblivious to the threat from Islamic jihadists…”
Does that mean the REAL threat, which we can resolve with compassion and diplomacy, or the fake one that will fuel our money-hungry, blood lusting, no-bid, book-cooking war machine for another couple decades, in lieu of the Cold War?
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:22 pmOh, please tell Beck to stop. I’m getting teary-eyed.
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:33 pmmust suck for all of you to hear the truth. sure glad glenn is sharing it with us…
August 2nd, 2007 at 5:12 pmLet me just say this…
Hah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
And no, I’m not laughing with you…
August 2nd, 2007 at 5:16 pmBush should not invite people like Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh to the White House. These people have extreme views that most Americans don’t share. Their opinions are not based in fact and are often full of GOP talking points. They are often openly racist and sexist in their hate speech. People like Beck (whose show’s ratings are really low) are there to further a very narrow minded ideology. His views represent the 26% of the nation who support Bush. Most of the nation doesn’t approve of the job Bush is doing. Bush is on track to become the worst president in our history. He is even worse than Nixon.
August 2nd, 2007 at 6:13 pmIf this syphillitic troll ever told the truth, could it be considered a sign of the apocalypse? Truly, whatever comes out of his mouth smells worse than the deposits the homeless leave on the sidewalks around my home.
August 2nd, 2007 at 6:16 pm“I met the President! I met the President! So what soldiers are dieing, I met the President!”
-Glen Beck
August 2nd, 2007 at 6:30 pmGlenn Beck is a suck up!
August 2nd, 2007 at 7:51 pmNeal Boortz was invited to a little private presidential shindig as well. Surprise surprise.
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:21 pmIf the pudgy Nazi look-alike beckster loses any more viewers, it will only be the trolls from here that still pay any attention.
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:34 pmthis is the first time i have seen this beck guy - swear to god i thought he was going to do a boner and start bawling!! - made my f**king skin crawl - he can’t be for real….can he?
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:34 pmI don’t know Bush, but I know Beck personally. I know he’s intelligent, sincere, and very frank. So to all you Beck haters, I know for myself that you are a bunch of liars who are beholden to the big lying media and news sources that are politically charged to one side or the other. To write such negative comments about Beck without even knowing him only shows me your ingenuousness and miserable state. Go suck yourselves - Foolish brats!
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:46 amBeck’s views are out of the mainstream. Most Americans don’t share his racist and sexist views. That is why his ratings have been so low as compared to other shows in his time slot.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:29 amClown interviews clown. So embarrassing. No wonder people hate America.
August 3rd, 2007 at 6:39 amMarcus, what are you on? That guy is insane. And pretty dumb to boot.
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:20 amI kept waiting for Georgie’s weiner to fall out of Beck’s mouth. Maybe he swallowed it. I bet he’s pretty good at swallowing.
Oh my! I hope O’Reilly doesn’t use that tonight!
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:21 amBeck carries the spit bucket for the Republican Party and has no independent though of his own. He is the Bundini Brown to Bush’s Muhammed Ali.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:07 pmI think Marcus up there is Beck’s mother. No one else could possibly call Beck intelligent. Unintelligible, maybe.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:09 pmDoes one need to personally know these Bush sycophants to realise they are nothing but water carriers for a failure of an administration?
Who knew!?
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:42 pmGlen Beck reminds me of Crazy Eddie or Fred The Rated.
August 3rd, 2007 at 2:38 pm“Beck’s analysis & insight taken from his tet-a tet with the prez has a certain shall we say, 3rd grader quality to it.
Comment by John — August 2, 2007″
Really? Care to elaborate on that comment?
August 3rd, 2007 at 3:16 pm“Beck carries the spit bucket for the Republican Party and has no independent though of his own. He is the Bundini Brown to Bush’s Muhammed Ali.
Comment by Steve — August 3, 2007″
I watch Beck every night. As a matter of fact I wouldn’t miss him. Most of what he says makes sense. I’d challenge you to prove me wrong?
August 3rd, 2007 at 6:01 pmSir, you are no David Frost. In fact the low level of self esteem that this President has exhibited, with the progressive rapidity of toilet bowl water (soon to be flushed in 2009), could be no better underlined by an appearance on your show.
Well at least do tell us… was he drunk this time ?
August 4th, 2007 at 2:45 amHey Glen,
Yeah, the president is so up, so confident and full of gusto ! Yet, the President is so disgusted and frustrated with his myopic subjects.
It doesn’t keep him up at night, but niether does Iraq.
So How does the President find time between all of his enthusiasm to meet with all the partisan talking head pack mules.????
The President hasn’t found time to meet with any mothers of KIA’s or spouses.? Didn’t have time to oversee the VA? He couldn’t even meet with Cindy Sheehan and that was before she became a national thorn in his side.
But the President found time between his vacations to meeting with his main spinning talking heads. Great President?
August 4th, 2007 at 3:23 amIs it any wonder our country is in the shape it is when hacks like Beck read the script the Prezident gave him to read? Beck is not a journalist. I repeat Beck is not a journalist. He is an opinionated hack for the republican party.
August 4th, 2007 at 7:58 amOh, I’m sure, Wulf Blitzer has the same experience. They’re all suck-ups of the worst sort.
And Bush, you have to give him credit for that at least, knows this exactly and has taken advantage of these so-called “journalists” from the start.
Despicable.
August 5th, 2007 at 6:28 pmAnd we’re going to war with Iran, look:

August 6th, 2007 at 2:10 pmGlenn Beck was raised a Roman Catholic in Mt. Vernon, Washington. His mother committed suicide when he was 13. One of his brothers also committed suicide, and another had a fatal heart attack.
Beck is a self-described reformed alcoholic and drug addict. In the aftermath of those three family tragedies, Beck said he used “Dr. Jack Daniels†to cope. He and his first wife divorced amid his struggle with substance abuse. Beck cites the help of Alcoholics Anonymous in his sobriety, and he eventually converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which teaches against the consumption of alcohol.
Beck believes he has a personal relationship with God. “God stalked me like he had a giant baptismal rifle,†Beck said. “I thwarted him. I led people astray as much I could but he kept putting Mormons in my way.â€
———
Ergo, he’s a dry alcoholic, right-wing Mormon. No wonder he’s trying so hard, despite all evidence to the contrary, to seem like he has something intelligent to say.
Maybe he’s holding an Urim and Thummim while he spews…kinda puts him in the same camp as Joseph Smith, who was convicted after an admitting to being a “disorderly person†and an “impostor†in a court in Bainbridge, New York, before he began his ultimate “treasure-hunting expeditionâ€.
August 7th, 2007 at 4:38 pmIt took me awhile to figure out what the heck cnn was doing putting such an absurdly mouth foaming right wingnut on while suffering the inevitable ratings plummet for that time slot. It finally occured to me that they were basically “bracketing” faux news in prime time. By putting up a real news show on cnn headline while positioning a mouth foamer like beck on cnn, they could really put the screws to faux news. Sure, becks ratings are almost down to single digits, but vitually every one of those viewers is stolen from faux news. Kudos cnn!
