Documents released Wednesday by the House Judiciary Committee show that Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) “was upset with Bush administration officials” over the forced resignation of U.S. attorney Paul Charlton, but the Justice Department quickly hushed his dissent. “I understand that Kyl is significantly disturbed over the Charlton issue,” Rebecca Seidel, a deputy assistant attorney general, wrote in an e-mail. “I am hoping that Kyl would not bring it up in an open hearing.”
Kyl must have been thinking about launching a fishng expedition, eh, Mr. Pee?
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:17 pmThat’s a “partisan fish hunt”, mikey r.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:30 pmGEE!!! Is this the same Sen. Kyl who voted AGAINST the ethics law? Maybe someone is up for re-election and hopes this will overshadow that little “nay” vote on such a trivial issue as Ethics.

August 2nd, 2007 at 9:39 pmUp here in my District 1 we’ve watched in shock as our Rick Renzi, (R$) #13 on CREW’s list of most corrupt politicians since his very first election, continues to repeat the same corrupt practices election after election right under the braindead FEC’s nose.
Kyl, almost defeated in the last election kept his silence to play the good little Republican and keep campaign dollars and support flowing in as well as to protect Renzi’s seat.
I predict all all this will severely impact McCains re-election chances in 08.
Az may be close to getting it’s first Democratic Senator, contingent on the DCCC staying out and Gov. Dean starts now to finds us the right candidate.

August 2nd, 2007 at 9:47 pmCharlton said that he told Arizona GOP Sen. Jon Kyl, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, of the call (requesting his resignation) and that Kyl agreed to speak to officials at the department on his behalf.
“Senator Kyl informed me that after his conversation with the Department of Justice that the department agreed they would reconsider their asking me to resign,” Charlton said.

Unless, that is, you consider pearls such as “Saudis aren’t Muslims” or “TRoS you are a libtroll” to be brainy, praise-worthy comments.
No wonder he worships at the feet of the Bush altar. Sadly, it’s probably genetic and incurable.
August 3rd, 2007 at 2:16 amI watch your Republican games, Sen. Kyl, and you will never get my vote. AZ isn’t so right-leaning any more, in case you have not been paying attention.
August 3rd, 2007 at 2:20 amOn topic,
“I am hoping that Kyl would not bring it up in an open hearing.”
This is the typical modus operandi in this administration: No interest for the rule of law, but a lot of concern for how things might appear. They lie to get their way, and then they lie to hide the previous lies.
The fact that Bush officials hoped Sen Kyl would not voice his concerns publicly, confirms they knew the firings were not kosher. They knew it, the White House knew it, and yet the Bush administration decided to proceed with the dismissals anyway, hoping nobody would be looking.

I’ve been watching the mess on cspan and trying to make sense of it.
It appears to be a case of GOP not getting their way and now throwing a hissy fit over a misunderstanding of how the vote was counted on the Agriculture Bill.
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:18 am#145 – what are conservatives losing? We still have the White House and once your foolish party nominates Hillary, we have at least a 50/50 chance of keeping it…. We have the Supreme Court – or at least according to Pat Leahy? What do you have – Congress – they don’t even want to impeach.
The GOP still has all the advantages it needs to win the war, continue tax cuts and pack the Supreme Court with radical right-wing ideologues. Democrats are spineless cowards and will never take us on when it matters.
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:19 amOr the Democrats are in bed with the Republicans.

August 3rd, 2007 at 11:22 amThe substance of the motion to recommit was to ban federal funds under the Ag Bill from going to wages or housing for illegal immigrants.
Was the Ag Bill designed for such funding? That would seem odd and unfortunate, but again I don’t have details.

August 3rd, 2007 at 11:30 amYes, Edwards has been photographed holding hands with the enemy-oops! That was Bush! Without your neocon traitors, we’d still have the strongest, most-respected country on earth, rather than the weak, incompetent, can’t-win-a-war against cameldrivers Bush crime regime. As wimpy as the Dems are, it’s the Republicans who refuse to enlist to support with their bodies what their mouths are behind, the usual ratwing cowardice. A Democrat took care of Hitler, Mussolini and Tojo in less time than you spineless, fat, ignorant, America-hating Repigs have taken to lose three wars, destroy the great economy Clinton handed you, and make America the laughingstock of the world. Jamaica could invade us now, and win if we depended on repukes to fight. Chickenhawks to the last, the “conservatives” that march in lockstep over the cliff the Chimperor is leading you to. Except for the ones who are busy screwing young pages, like Foley and Hastert. They’re the true Republican party. Bush is just a gay traitor.

Then you will lose, the evidence is around you every day from every liberal corner of the nation.
All the left does is scream “WHAT ABOUT OBL” as if there arent other terrorists out there who are just as dangerous. You ignore them while castigating Bush for not having OBL’s(D-SA) body layed out on the White House lawn. Just as you ignored OBL(D-SA) when he was busy attacking us during the 90’s.
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:36 amI say let all the illegals come here that want to, since the repigs will never lift a finger to defend the USA. Send the repukes to Mexico to do the jobs the Mexicans won’t, it’s really all they’re good for. 70% of America wants the end of the Republican party. real patriots would leave that party in droves, but you can’t be a real patriot and republican at the same time. Cheney has proven that since his 5 deferments.

Hate to tell you this, manjizz, but FDR didnt win WWII alone, unless you choose to believe that 20 million dead Russians are an historical sidenote.
FDR also signed-off on such strategies as firebombing German and Japanese cities as well as the development of the atom bomb, a device which his democrat successor actually used.
I see you also fail to recognize that FDR didnt enter the war against the axis until Pearl Harbor occurred, two years after Hitler began to storm through europe. Meanwhile the British were fighting for their lives and barely escaped destruction in 1940.
Please also note that there are some embarrassing photos of FDR sitting with Stalin (you remember, a murderous dictator) at Yalta; all smiles and chumminess and solidarity.
If youre going to make historical comparisons, please get your shit straight before opening your pie-hole.
So should I expect that you advocate the use of carpet-bombing and nuclear weapons against the “camel drivers” just as FDR did to win against the axis?

August 3rd, 2007 at 11:49 amJust so, RUSerious. They don’t deserve their citizenships, and the Republican party must be thoroughly destroyed and discredited. All they have done for decades is kill people and steal their money. I will have nothing to do with anybody that votes Republican since 2000, as I really hate traitors. It’s still a mystery as to how people can vote against their own self-interest, and against their own Constitution, but stupidity is a long-established conservative trait. We have to clean them out, as well as the centrist Dems that are enabling the repuke treason. This country works very well witha nice balance of capitalism and benign socialism.

Trust me, I love a good round of Whack-A-Troll as much as anyone. It’s just that you really can’t refute an irrational position.
There used to be a guy in SF that would take a can of shaving cream and some little flags on toothpicks w/ him when he went jogging mornings. Whenever he came upon a pile of dog poop on the sidewalk, he’d spray a little shaving creme on it then stick a flag into it, so people wouldn’t step in it by accident.
That’s what you need to do w/ the really crazy troll comments. Don’t address the troll directly. Trolls are like vampires. They can only come in, so to speak, if you address them directly. Just put up a little sign that says, “Warning, crazy ass comment. Ignore this troll.”
It really works. The trolls’ heads start exploding when you nail ‘em like that.
Save your ammo for the ones that actually try to present “facts” in their arguments. They make ‘em up alot of the time, and quotes too. You catch a troll in a false fact, like Li’l Pippy Trollstockings trying to claim Saudis aren’t Moslems, you’re free to ream them out nine ways to Sunday. Pippy’s never going to hear the end of that Saudis comment. I’m chuckling right now just thinking about it.
It’s like judo. Use your leverage where you’ve got it. If a troll tricks you into arguing against an irrational position, you CAN’T really win.

August 3rd, 2007 at 12:18 pmIt’s like judo. Use your leverage where you’ve got it. If a troll tricks you into arguing against an irrational position, you CAN’T really win.
Comment by The Republic of Stupidity
Well, said. Sometimes it’s entertaining to slap trolls around a little, but they’re generally too stupid to notice. And it’s never an argument you can “win” because facts and information just bounces off them like their Teflon god, Ronnie.

Why does that blubbering, bawling idiot hate America so much?
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:22 pmdo you know, Dr. Dog?
Never heard of him, now excuse me while I head to the back yard to drop another TROS post by the tree.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:23 pmA terrorist act does not necessarily have to be against a civilian target.
Comment by Revisionist History — August 3, 2007 @ 12:14 pm
Actually, it does. That’s the short answer. The long answer is wrapped up in international law and was the subject of a year-long course in international advocacy.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:28 pmBoehner’s boner will be the down fall of that prick.

BTW, what the hell is wrong with these people?
Is this some sort of sacred promise or they dont have anything else better to do? (Yes, I said better, Im not 18 anymore)
Dude, even worse, whats wrong with this guy:
God Does Not Want 16 Kids
Sure, its weird that they have 17 kids, and it sucks that they are getting raised to be fundies, but man, there was no need for that much of a rant on it.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:34 pmMost Troll droppings look a lot like their leaders; soft & smelly.
Most Trolls intelligence resembles their leaders; absent.
Most Trolls communication skills emulate their leader; nonexistent.
Most Trolls diplomacy skills are limited to the first three letters; just like their leader.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:48 pmthese repigs are waving yet another strawman around. They are apoplectic because their precious bill is INCREASING TAXES on FOREIGN HELD BUSINESSES. That is what is really getting their goat. They don’t care one lick about what they are screaming about. they obviously are trying to win points with their low IQ base by claiming monies are going to illegal immigrants. The vote was fine, the Chairman just jumped the gun before all votes were counted, he apologized.
August 3rd, 2007 at 2:12 pmRepigs just can’t handle losing money for their pals who own these offshore corporations.
Now they want to take even more ouf our freedoms away by changing FISA AGAIN. They want the decision to go to Gonzo instead of independent judges! They are unbelievable crooks.
Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) “was upset with Bush administration officials†over the forced resignation of U.S. attorney Paul Charlton, but the Justice Department quickly hushed his dissent. “I understand that Kyl is significantly disturbed over the Charlton issue,†Rebecca Seidel, a deputy assistant attorney general, wrote in an e-mail. “I am hoping that Kyl would not bring it up in an open hearing.â€
Great. The Justice Department advocates a policy of “hush,” particularly among Republicans, from whom it expects loyalty to Bush at whatever cost. The cost is to open and transparent government. The Bush DOJ wouldn’t expect the same from dem congressmen and women . . . but blasphamy should a republican express disgust . . . just how politicized is the Justice Department?
Hey DOJ, you are not an arm of the executive branch . . . you are an equal branch . . . equally empowered to serve the American people, all of whom have a vested interest in transparent, impartial, democratic governance.
It is clearly not in America’s interest, whether you support Democrats, Republicans, Independents or any other party, to have a “unitary executive”, particularly, one united with the judiciary branch of government. If the legislative branch joins the party (as it has during this executive administration) we have no democracy.
Silence of dissent and distortion of the truth is the greatest threat to democracy today.
Thanks dubya. I have seen the enemy, and it is you.
August 3rd, 2007 at 6:16 pmWell well. Sen. Kyle is “disturbed”. Another non-step in a non-direction by a slightly ruffled Repug. Those GOP Congressmen do not open their eyes until they feel Bush enter them from behind.
August 4th, 2007 at 11:56 amThen they spill a little bile, choke and sputter, and go back for more.
Get in line, Senator Kyle.
