Due to the House remaining in session tomorrow “to consider an energy bill, delaying the start of the August recess by a day,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressman Rahm Emanuel are officially canceling their scheduled YearlyKos Convention appearances. Sen. Charles Schumer may still be able to attend the Ask The Leaders forum, but convention organziers will not know for sure until late Friday evening.

Yep. Why would they want to be associated with a hate-site like the Dailycooze?
August 3rd, 2007 at 7:42 pmApparently they were delayed by YearlyRepublicanObstructionism.

Duty Calls. Im sure all those at YKOS, though disappointed, would rather they stay on the Hill and FIGHT these clowns’ attempt to fiddle with FISA and remove judges from the process and put Gonzo in charge! This guy is the least credible person in the Nation! He’s going to decide now instead of independent judges??

Well, it’s obvious from whom you get your “facts”.
I, for one, am glad that they are putting their legislative duties first, which is how I interpret their decision not to attend the convention. I hope people understand that DailyKos has a Democratic Party agenda. It’s not a website just for liberals and progressives. They are activists doing what they do to influence the Democratic Party. They campaign for Democrats and try to encourage people to donate to Democrats. Which is why I don’t blog there much. I don’t weant either major political party to have control of either House. I want them to have to get help from third party politicians to get legislation passed.
August 3rd, 2007 at 7:55 pmIt had damn well better be to stay in session and not adjourn.

Do you think it’s a party issue? I wonder about that, I think it’s really polarizing regardless of who’s ring you throw your hat in. I want my elected reps based on their intelligence, character, integrity and experience more than if they are I or G or D or R….to me that is what Progressive means, to elect reps based on merit over party.
Some conservative ideas I am for, some Im not. Some liberal ideas Im for, some Im not. I think a lot of people feel that way but get caught up in this alphabet
soup of labelling ourselves and each other.
R’s problem is the facts and truth are now winning and they are in deep, their quitting and being arrested left and right!Im all for Jefferson getting the book thrown at him, I dont care if he’s a Dem if he’s a crook. It’s an ethics and responsibility issue. With watchdog transparencies of ALL party members. We have to decide on our representatives based on the person not the party. That is what “Progressive” means to me. Focusing on labelling people sucks far too much energy out of actual PROGRESS.
August 3rd, 2007 at 8:09 pmRunnin’ scared of the whackheads who are taking over the party.

IMHO, Jefferson is guilty as sin. He needs to be tried.
Whether the FBI violated the law many more times in the course of the investigation, means the prosecutors run the risk of the judge getting ticked and throwing the case.
It would suck to have him get off because the FBI can’t follow the law.
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:24 pmI guess the cash stays in evidence, eh?
Comment by Wayne A. Schneider — August 3, 2007 @ 10:10 pm
If evidence found in Jefferson’s office led them to the cash in his freezer at home — I’d say it’s out as well. I don’t know the timeline — FBI sting, then the office search?
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:30 pmIf the FBI case against Rep. William Jefferson is thrown out of court, then FBI can give the video tape of Jefferson taking the cash bribe to the press. He will not be re-elected in 2008.
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:32 pmWord of advice: If you are a DC politician and a guy dumps cold hard cash on the table as a bribe, then realize it most likely is a FBI sting operation, so throw a tantrum for the camera and tell the guy to stick the money up his butt and to get out. (If the money is brand new crisp $100 dollar bills, with a paper sleeve, then it is marked bills.)

August 3rd, 2007 at 11:23 pmHarry Reid just (well, about 20 minutes ago) adjourned the Senate until Tuesday, September, 4. So, I don’t think they are coming back in tomorrow. Don’t know about the House. Maybe they can still make YKos.
The last think Reid did, before adjourning, was to congratulate Sheldon Whitehouse for becoming one of ninety (I think that’s what he said) who have presided over the house for 100 hours. Reid was very complimentary to Whitehouse. Saying that the Judiciary Committee was talking about how hard he works, even though he’s only a junior member of the committee. He also said that others in the Senate were talking about how hard he works and the hours he put in on bills like the FISA bill.
I heart Sheldon Whitehouse. I loved watching him question Gonzales and other members of DOJ. He sets them up, so they knock themselves down with their own inconsistent answers.
Congratulations Sheldon Whitehouse!

August 3rd, 2007 at 11:31 pmReid, Pelosi and Emmanual should stay in D.C. until they are done.
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:33 pmThere is a lot to be done in Congress and, while I realize that they also must spend time with their constituents, those constituents also should know that D.C. work sometimes interferes with plans.
The Repugs see the future now and it is grim. They will remain obstructionists, no doubt, but today’s Senate vote on the CHIP program may be the catalyst for real change on the horizon.
RUCerious > Some of the Democrats in the Senate are incredibly stupid, because catching real terrorists is NOT Bush’s game. He spies on his political opponents and members of Congress. Pelosi might have cut a deal for Dubya to spy on Cindy Sheehan, which he will do, but he will also dig up dirt on Nancy at the same time.

Democratic Seats Secure, Republicans at Risk
The latest strategy memo from James Carville and Stan Greenberg touts a recent poll in the 70 most competitive Congressional districts which shows the Democrats “in a strong position to hold their gains from 2006 and move far into Republican territory in 2008.”
“Indeed, Democrats hold an 18-point electoral advantage in their own districts while Republicans are losing their districts by 5 points overall — 7 points in their most vulnerable districts, 51 to 44 percent.”
Key finding: “Republican incumbents are paying a big price for the deep discontent in the country and for aligning with the President who is no more popular in the Republican districts than in the Democratic ones. “

Nobody can make ILLEGAL SPYING legal. They can pass all the legislation they want. But by supporting and engaging in ILLEGAL SPYING this government has made ITSELF ILLEGAL.
Remember, we have unalienable rights and the Declaration notes that to protect those rights, government are formed by men. THIS GOVERNMENT is acting exactly OPPOSITE of what it was created to do.
Also please note: the Declaration notes that when the government becomes destructive of our rights, “it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it.”
