I wrote a pretty nice, thoughtful post that was actually on-topic, and it appears to have been eaten by trolls. Nothing insulting or inappropriate. Guessing that this one shows up, but I give up here. I'll continue to read, but when the posts of disruptive readers stand, while too many of my own disappear, it's just too hard to be too involved here.

#753 - "In addition to sampling error, one should bear in mind that question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of opinion polls."

Hat eto burt your "I'm so right" bubble, but the error rate is not the end-all answer for accuracy.

Here's a poll that you might disagree with on many levels, but the "error rate" is between 2.5 and 3.5. INCREDIBLY accurate based on your criteria.

Until we know the criterion used for determining the margin, we don’t know anything.

YOU don't know anything. Most people know what an error rate is of a poll. The higher the less accurate. The lower the more accurate. But you're too stupid.

Until we know the criterion used for determining the margin, we don't know anything. So next time, do a little research before putting up a questionable poll, and perhaps it won't also bite you on the ass.

Now, I've got to turn in, but rest assured I will be around tomorrow, so if you try to float this poll again I'll be here, to stick pins in it..

The poll has come to be viewed by some as a barometer of the pro fessional career military. It is the only independent poll done on an annual basis. The margin of error on this year’s poll is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

I have seen polls with a 10-15% error rate, where too many people chose not to respond. This one is pretty accurate.

There is only a 2 or 3% sampling error in the Military Times poll. It is pretty close to being dead on balls accurate.

"The margin of error."

And what is the criterion used for determining it, in this specific poll? Your link doen't specify.

"You have ridiculous spin."

Comment by Dr. Dog —

I noticed that you haven't challenged any of my assertions, merely hugged your poll ever tighter like a security blanket. That you can't mount any kind of real defense shows how little serious thought you've given the matter.

Big surprise.

The margin of error is a statistic expressing the amount of random sampling error in a survey's results. The larger the margin of error, the less confidence one should have that the poll's reported results are close to the "true" figures; that is, the figures for the whole population.

You only need a small sample to poll 1.5 million. Enough was polled to get a + or - of 2 to 3%. You are way off base here.

A small, accurate sample. This one isn't, for the reasons I've stated. Your poll is still bogus - but if it gives you comfort to believe it, go ahead.

A small, accurate sample. This one isn’t, for the reasons I’ve stated. Your poll is still bogus – but if it gives you comfort to believe it, go ahead.

I already have. But you're right about the poll being all spin. I would only hope that you would get tired of chasing your tail sooner or later...

Of respondents. We keep going round, and round…

You only need a small sample to poll 1.5 million. Enough was polled to get a + or - of 2 to 3%. You are way off base here.
