Censure resolutions in the House.

By Faiz Shakir on Aug 6th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

Censure resolutions in the House.

Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) has introduced two censure resolutions in the House, mirroring those offered by Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) in the Senate. The resolutions condemn the “president, vice president and the attorney general for misconduct regarding our military involvement in Iraq and for their repeated assaults on the rule of law at home.” The House resolutions have 19 original cosponsors. See the list here.

Far too many people in this country don’t take the time to look into their own govt. It’s an insider club filled with soundbytes and snake oil salesmen.

I believe the reluctance to discuss impeachment is due to congress’ belief the American public wouldn’t understand the seriousness of it and they couldn’t convey the message in a manner that would show the power grabs and assault on the constitution.

Should impeachment be brought up and persued? Yes. Can it be effectively conveyed to the American people? Most likely not.

I keep hearing this, and you are UTTERLY WRONG!!!!

Once the investigation started, and Bush could no longer claim “Executive Priviledge” then the truth would come out…… Just multiply the known crimes by probably 10 and you would have the hidden crimes…..

Just look at what came out about the USA’s…… The whole thing was about politics and VOTER CAGING!!!!! This in it’s self is a DIRECT GO TO JAIL CRIME, yet nothing has been done abou this….. Immagine more info comming out, do you really think the American people would not pressure Congress to convict??????

Those Senators who voted not to convict would be signing their carrears away!!!! The public would throw their a$$’s out if they see the evidence and they let them slide knowing it!

This argument holds no water as far as I’m concerned……

By your statement….. We should not bother trying many court cases because the outcome is not known…… We should only try those cases we know we can get a conviction for.

Kings had always been involving and impoverishing their people in wars, pretending generally, if not always, that the good of the people was the object. This, our Convention understood to be the most oppressive of all Kingly oppressions; and they resolved to so frame the Constitution that no one man should hold the power of bringing this oppression upon us.”(are you listening America???)

“I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crises. The great point is to bring them the real facts.”(are you listening MSM?)

TRoS, this is just another case of, as I said before, arguing from two different perspectives.

To you and me, “factual” means something we can verify by citing non-partisan, authoritative sources.

To those like the Clammer, “factual” is a rhetorical device, employed in order to convey authority on a statement that doesn’t merit it.

Clammer is absolutely correct, within his perspective, to use the term as he does. The fact that what he means by “factual” is completely at odds with what we in the “reality-based community” mean by it as not important to him.

Actually, what Clammer was doing was trying to make a subtle jab at democrats (i.e. indirectly saying that they are mentally challenged, thus slow)

    From their website
    What is Verland?
We are a non-profit family of person-centered, commmunity homes and services supporting over 225 people with mental retardation, many of whom have multiple physical challenges.

So, unbeknowest to Clam head, he actually complimented the Dems, because, after all, who wouldn’t to help those that need it the most? (NeoCons need not respond)

    Case in point…..

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_privilege

The Supreme Court confirmed the legitimacy of this doctrine in United States v. Nixon, but only to the extent of confirming that it can be invoked when the oversight of the executive would impair that branch’s national security concerns.

Since investigation of the WH would not be covered, because it would not cover “National Security” then there are no claims to “Executive Privilege”.

All of these claims Bush is making are ILLEGAL and out of the scope of “Executive Privilege”.

Your one of those big bad Republicans that talk tough, but in reality your pumping some kid in the A$$ when you go home………

I have NEVER bowed down to anyone!!!! Even in the Army…..

I stood in front of my commander and told him “Sir, I think you suck, sir! Sir, You are the worst commander I have ever worked for, Sir! Sir, I request that you transfer me, Sir!

I could go on, but you will just claim I’m making this up and BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!!

You the coward!!!!! Your the one who would whimper and give in to anyone who applies a little pressure!!!! Your the person who, when it came down to you or your country would chose YOU!!!!!

These are the differences between me and YOU!!! I have the courage and will to tell ANYONE what is right and stand up for what I believe in!!!!

Now run back to your mommy little boy, it’s time for your diaper to be changed, because you have soiled them……

Censure is too little, too late. This is going to go the full 9 innings and the Democrats aren’t even in the game. Looks like WE THE PEOPLE will have to save ourselves.

Oh, Mr. Pee, why do you bother?

  103. rockyroad says:

ISE – Here I thought you’d be in Compton bonding with the gangsta’s . . . given that I had you all set up with a picnic basket and bandanas. You know, since you equate gang violence in the USA with “genocide” in Iraq . . . the first of which the police in LA (miles south of Compton) and the FBI have under control . . . and the latter of which is a genocide that that US has a “treaty obligation” to end. You are one flighty fellow. Good to see ya.

  104. rockyroad says:

Censure is too little and too late; however, at this point, it’s all we’ve got. If censure will raise awareness of the debate to a level that captures the attention of the non-blogging public, censure is worth it.

We need leverage. We need to raise the curtain on “executive privilege.” Despite the failures of our Congresspeople, they are all we have. We cannot quit.

Start with censure. End with impeachment.

  105. Probus says:

The censure resolutions should definitely move forward. Bush clearly deserves any kind of censure. He also deserves impeachment. The reasons for impeachment are many on top of that list is the false justification used for the Iraq war. The intelligence was cherry picked to so that the intelligence was made to fit the policy. The policy should have been made to fit around the intelligence. Other reasons include the US Attorneys’ firing scandal where 6 Justice Department officials have resigned. The outing of former CIA agent Plame to get back at an outspoken critic of the war her husband is also justification for impeachment. Commuting the sentence of a convicted felon – Scooter Libby to protect himself and Cheney from possible prosecution if Libby decided to talk to Fitzgerald is also another reason for impeachment.

  106. rockyroad says:

Probus, I agree. If Fitzgerald were willing, do you think that he would be a good choice for special prosecutor?

  107. Probus says:

    Comment by rockyroad — August 6, 2007 @ 11:27 pm

Yes, considering he was on Rove list of USAs that needed to go. He handled himself well in the Libby case. In the end they decided not to fire him as he was investigating Rove, and Libby for leaking Plame’s covert status to the media.

  108. rockyroad says:

Probus, I think that he would be good. He has proven himself to be an impartial arbitrator. No. He did not ive dems all that they would have wanted, but he showed the same disregard for the republicans.

I doubt he has the stomach for it.

    Hell, who really needs this?

  109. rockyroad says:

    Probus,

The present debacle is a project for Elliott Ness. No one who is not driven by passion would want the job.

Please, would some one step up to the plate!

Wanted, American with vision, passion and a sincere love for the Constitution – Please help US!

    Responders should be Congress people . . . unfortunately . . . not.

Patrick Fitzgerald, we are counting on you.
