I read almost all 166 comments above and have come to several basic conclusions based on message patterns: 1) All of George Bush's screw-ups are Bill Clinton's fault. 2) People will call you names when they can't refute your argument with facts. 3) There are so many supporters of Bush and his war who are sitting at computers bad-mouthing a president who's been out of office for six years. Why aren't they fighting the war they think is so necessary? Must be that starting wars is what Republicans do, but actually getting shot at is for REAL patriots. Finally, 4) Republicans will never understand what their president has done to them until Bush doesn't need them anymore. Time is running out on that score and Republican realization of betrayal will be indescribable... and it will take all my willpower not to say, "I told you so." P.S. I was right about Nixon, too!

marlow. it’s perfectly legitimate to complain about what Bush has done or hasn’t done. It happens here continually.

Let’s not forget the intent of the post. Bush is guilty of inaction because he failed to act on the warnings in the memo. And others here have commented that Bush is a coward because he didn’t act for seven minutes after he found out about the bombings.

I am asking one simple question. Besides complaining about Bush policy, what initiatives have been spearheaded by democrats to either pursue terrorists abroad or help protect us from terrorism at home since 9/11?

Can anyone please tell me who's side B#%h is on? He claims to be fighting Terrorism, but so far the ONLY ones I see in the line of fire are Americans and the Constitution. He is all buddy buddy with the Saudi royals, refuses to make any serious effort to go after bin Laden or al Qaeda, does NOTHING to secure our borders but leaves them wide open. He prosicutes OUR border guards for doing their job, he spys on OUR people because he says he can, he'd dumping our Constitution because it dosn't give him enough POWER to "keep us safe" (yeah, right), put restrictions on our our international travel, taken away Habeas Corpus, put the kibosh on due process and the right to redress. If that dosn't sound like "aiding and abeting the enemy" I don't know what does. Americans have suffered MORE from the consiquences of His Nibs' War On Terror than they have from any direct act of terrorism. To paraphrase Reagan: "are we better off - safer, more free, have we prospered, - now, than we were 6 years ago when B#%h came to office?" In all honesty I will have to say NO! we are worse off, much worse off.

Bush and Cheney wanted an attack to occur. They supressed the investigation of Moussaoui who was being held for weeks prior to 9/11. Even the head of the CIA knew about this guy. But Bush stayed on vacation. The only thing that surprised him was that there was more than one plane.

#6 - if only Bush had wiretapped the nineteen hijackers on 8.6.01?? Please stop being such a shameless pig!
Comment by I Heart Alito — August 6, 2007 @ 1:31 pm

Some of the hijackers were, in fact, wiretapped. But due to the lack of competent translators of Arabic in the various US intelligence agencies, the Sept. 10 conversation referring to "our day of glory tomorrow" didn't get rendered into English until after the fact. Despite all this, the Bush administration has still not seen fit to train an adequate number of translators of Arabic, Urdu, and other languages that Muslim terrorists are likely to use, and there is a backlog of hundreds of thousands of hours of intercepted calls/e-mails that remain untranslated, shameless idiot!

Great post GitMORules' Mother.

And I extend my condolences to you for having a bastard Repug child.

Anyway, Bill Clinton held cabinet-level counterterrorism meetings three times a week up until when he left office, often attended by Richard Clarke, the counterterrorism chief, as well as top officials from our intelligence agencies.

So, before 9/11, how many cabinet-level counterterrorism meetings did the Bush administartion hold?

ONE.

And this ONE meeting was held ONE week before the 9/11 attacks, ONE month after the August 6th PDB that Bush was briefed on while taking a month-long vacation that Osama bin Laden was determined to strike inside the United States.

Condi Rice has stated that this ONE meeting wasn't held to address the al Qaeda threat, but was held to discuss a broad, region-wide strategy (i.e., they met to discuss the Bush administration's plans for invading Iraq).

ONE damn Bush meeting, while the Clinton administration was holding three a week.

So, GitMORules' Mother, your list doesn't surprise.

And it is quite obvious to any patriotic American that Republicans got 3,000 U.S. citizens killed on 9/11, both in obstructing Bill Clinton's counterterrorism initiatives and in their blowing off of the al Qaeda threat before 9/11 while they plotted their attack on Iraq.

And it is also obvious to any patriotic U.S. citizens, whether Democratic or among the few Republicans that remain not seduced by evil, that the Bush administration diverted men and materials from the actual "war on terror" being fought in Afghanistan in 2002 so that these Bush cretins could initiate their "scheduled" attack on Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks nor represented any real danger at all to the United States.

So now, the Republicans have the blood of over 3,000 of our troops on their hands, in addition to the blood of the 9/11 victims, as well as the blood of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

So, who needs a "war on terror" when we have so many blood-stained Republicans to contend with, who have as much blood on their hands as al Qaeda, if not more?

Condi Rice has stated that this ONE meeting wasn’t held to address the al Qaeda threat, but was held to discuss a broad, region-wide strategy (i.e., they met to discuss the Bush administration’s plans for invading Iraq).

ONE damn Bush meeting, while the Clinton administration was holding three a week.

So, GitMORules’ Mother, your list doesn’t surprise.

And it is quite obvious to any patriotic American that Republicans got 3,000 U.S. citizens killed on 9/11, both in obstructing Bill Clinton’s counterterrorism initiatives and in their blowing off of the al Qaeda threat before 9/11 while they plotted their attack on Iraq.

And it is also obvious to any patriotic U.S. citizens, whether Democratic or among the few Republicans that remain not seduced by evil, that the Bush administration diverted men and materials from the actual “war on terror” being fought in Afghanistan in 2002 so that these Bush cretins could initiate their “scheduled” attack on Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks nor represented any real danger at all to the United States.

So now, the Republicans have the blood of over 3,000 of our troops on their hands, in addition to the blood of the 9/11 victims, as well as the blood of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

So, who needs a “war on terror” when we have so many blood-stained Republicans to contend with, who have as much blood on their hands as al Qaeda, if not more?

...And I wonder if losing 190,000 weapons in Iraq, presumably to the islamic insurgents is part of some other initiative to keep us all safe?

Bush clearly dropped the ball on finding and killing bin Laden for the attacks of 9-11. He was more occupied in spreading democracy unilaterally by force in Iraq and the Middle East. Although at the time we were told that Saddam was connected to bin Laden and 9-11 this was false. Cheney still maintains this even though he knows this is not true. We were also told that Saddam had WMDs this too was false. Bush let bin Laden go at Tora Bora and didn't send the reinforcements requested. He outsourced the job to Afghan warlords. He shut down the CIA unit that was meant to find bin Laden. Now al Qaeda is back to its original strength since before the 9-11 attacks. That is unacceptable.

#142, You want to list the initiatives of your fearless leader that have made us safe from terrorists? Seeing as right now chimpy is wadding his underpants and screaming about how close we are to destruction?
For example, was ignoring the experience AND warnings from Clinton and his counterterrorism experts as well as the HUNDREDS of warnings flowing in from around the globe before 9-11 one of those initiatives?

This post is accusing Bush of not acting on the intel prior to 9/11. And there is sentiment here that Bush was incompetent because he took no action for seven minutes after he found out the second plane hit.

Whether you agree with them or not, Bush has taken very tangible steps since 9/11 to pursue terrorists around the world and protect us from terrorists here at home. Many (or most) of those initiatives have been scrutinized by liberals and decried as illegal acts.

Bush has acted. Again, can anyone here present just one liberal initiative (spearheaded by democrats or progressives) to pursue terrorists abroad or protect us from terrorists at home?

With all the bravado here, there should be at least one example. Anyone?
