Chris Matthews’ incisive post-debate commentary.»

Following the conclusion of tonight’s presidential forum, host Chris Matthews immediately began to focus on the pressing issues. He offered an array of trifling analysis that included musings about Sen. John Edwards’ height, Sen. Hillary Clinton’s use of the word “girl,” and Clinton’s Chicago accent. Watch it:

  1. TripMaster Monkey Says:

What pissed me off was the “proxy debate” between the representatives for Clinton, Obama, and Edwards.
    Only Clinton, Obama, and Edwards.

Way to frame the debate, Tweety.

  2. Jake D. Says:

Obviously, either Clinton, Obama, or Edwards will be the Democratic nominee for President — no need to deny reality.

  3. Mack Sweet from OH Says:

Perhaps the dems need to exclude second tier candidates from any substantial debates.

  4. Marcus Aurelius Says:

Matthews apparently bases his observations of a candidate’s fitness for the office of President on looks, smells, and elocution. I like to base mine on phrenology (if I can get close enough to touch the candidate’s head). Without that, I’m clueless.

Everyone knows that Chris Matthews wants Elizabeth Edwards and is clearly going after her husband in hopes that she’ll notice him!

    Jake D. sez:

Constantly repeating that assertion, along with granting wildly disparate coverage to the “frontrunners”, guarantees that “reality”.

Matthews is frequently cringe-worthy, but tonight he was even more so. I only stayed tuned because Keith was supposed to join him, but that took too long and didn’t last very long.

It should also be noted how much Matthews was praising Keith’s performance — in a way that made it appear he thought he was Keith’s boss. Ugh.

Matthews has been washed up for years. When will MSNBC catch on to that?

Indeed we truly have a diverse and talented set of candidates to choose from. For the first time we might nominate a woman, an African American or even a Hispanic to the highest office. The republicans can make no such claim. All of their candidates are white. None of them can be described as talented or worthy of the presidency.

what happened to Gravel? I would have enjoyed seeing him on board. the primary is the time to focus on issues. go, take one of those cool little polls. I’ll bet most of the snotty “netroots” people who think Gravel and Kucinich should be cast overboard actually agree with them on most of the issues. some of you people are even starting to sound like Chris Matthews!
