Fox fails on LGBT representation.

By Amanda Terkel on Aug 7th, 2007 at 5:15 pm

Fox fails on LGBT representation.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today released “a first-of-its-kind report that maps the quantity, quality and diversity of images of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people on network television. ABC, with shows like Brothers & Sisters and Ugly Betty, received the highest ranking of the five networks. NBC, once home to Will & Grace, ranked fourth, and FOX scored lowest.”

You think that shows with any kind of gay characters always show them “going at it”? Are all heterosexual characters in television shows always shown “going at it”? Oh wait — maybe they are.

The gay characters I have seen on television shows are generally the most chaste characters on their respective shows.

The Congress has been Wellstoned….. I have never in my reasonably long life heard people talking openly in this country about a plan by the administration to stage a terrorist attack on its own people.

I hear it on talk radio, I hear it in private conversations, I read it on the internet…..

Mostly I see it being acted out by the Congress. We wonder what the hell is wrong with them? Why do they do the things they do? The answer may be a simple as they believe that the administration would make good on these threats.

that’s what you get from racketeering, murdering criminals, helped along by others with something to hide.
Well, if anything happens between now and 9/12 he’d better be ready to answer questions about what he knew and when he knew it and how he knew it.

Just based on Turkish counter-intelligence operations, you know of FOUR corrupt congressional people. Take a look at this room (of translators), we have the Chinese Department, we have, you know, the Arabic, including Saudi Arabia and everything. How many (other corrupt Congressfolk) do you think they have come across?

So do you folks want to use the government to force the networks to show more gay programing?

  21. CJG says:

Fox is only at 6% vs. NBC’s 7% and CBS’s 9%. Heck ABC, the leader, is only at 15%

It seems a little disingenuous to a) tout Fox as being “the last” when they’re so close to #3 and #4 and b) say that Fox “fails” while the other two stations get a “fair.”

Do the masses of Americans that watch that much TV really have their Gaydar tuned properly? Wasn’t Chris Matthew’s swooning over Fred Thompson’s manly aura enough to suggest that we might like it rough from Daddy?Do girl’s gone wild and Howard Stern specials not count in any way towards projecting a real epidemic of Lesbianism? Aren’t we complex enough to get the subtleties and not have cliches shoved, ehm , down our throats? What about the Law and order episode when the Players turn into down-lows?What about the cooking channel and the home design shows? Fox has issues with reality, let alone homosexuality.

  51. Ringo says:

Exactly how many transgendered characters would Fox need to add to meet GLAAD’s quota?

    Just wondering.

  52. Ringo says:

If a character on a TV drama doesn’t “act gay” then how are we supposed to know if they’re gay?….and shouldn’t it not matter?

And what about bi-sexuals?….How are we supposed to know if a TV character is bi-sexual unless it is explictly written into the plot?

As for “transgender”, these people make up such a small part of the population that statisticaly they are insignificant.

Another question that comes to mind is: Do all LGBT have to always be shown in a postitive light or is a gay character sometimes allowed to also be the vilain?

    I need answers damn it!
