The World Meteorological Organization reports that temperature measurements from early 2007 indicate the warmest period ever recorded:
In January and April 2007 it is likely that global land surface temperatures ranked warmest since records began in 1880, 1.89°C warmer than average for January and 1.37°C warmer than average for April. Several regions have experienced extremely heavy precipitation, leading to severe floods. The Fourth Assessment Report of the WMO /UNEP Intergovernmental Group on Climate Change (IPCC) notes an increasing trend in extreme events observed during the last 50 years. IPCC further projects it to be very likely that hot extremes, heat waves and heavy precipitation events will continue to become more frequent.
Today it’s supposed to get up to 100 degrees where I live. Driving home from work in my oven on wheels will allow me to contemplate these figures in a directly personal way.

August 7th, 2007 at 11:47 amUh oh…a climate change story. I hear a troll stampede as alarm bells sound in Petroleum Institute-funded troll-centers across the country.
August 7th, 2007 at 11:49 amSurprisingly mild this August in Texas but I know it will get warmer. Overall the climate story is disturbing and a wake up call for everyone. Glad to see more wind farms sprouting up ion the Texas panhandle though.
August 7th, 2007 at 11:52 am#2 – stop driving them!!!!
I am so sick of the climate change whining. The American people can change it in an instant, they just don’t want to. As for hypocrite liberals like Al Gore and Hollywierd, what can you expect from a bunch of C minus students?
Anyone heard about the Little Ice Age? Does anyone think there was something people could have done back then to stop it?
August 7th, 2007 at 11:54 amYou know even a dog is smart enough, not to sh!t where it sleeps, to bad we aren’t.

Your wisdom is, well, lacking the “wise” part.
Sure, cavemen could have used computer sims to predict that it was only going to be a “little” Ice Age…
Sheer stupidity.

OH durn, i’m already too late. like pavlov’s dog, the science-deniers hear global warming and their heads explode.
man you guys look funny when that happens.
August 7th, 2007 at 11:58 amRepublicans could feed a lot of starving children with their tasty climate politics red herrings. Straw men probably don’t taste as good but are also widely available.
August 7th, 2007 at 11:59 amConsider this: Since hybrids have been introduced in America the total fuel savings has been the equivalent of the amount of oil we import in one single day. That is amazingly disappointing. All of these years, and just one days worth of oil saved.
August 7th, 2007 at 12:00 pmHey, democratsareliars. Thank you for not disappointing! It is good to see that the trolls are alive, well and still in complete denial.
The climate may change but there is something oddly comforting in the knowledge that ignorant meatheads like you will always be among us. I guess there is something constant in this world, after all.
August 7th, 2007 at 12:01 pmGood thing George went to Iraq to find us some more oil. We will need it soon. Say good bye to your precious wildlife refuge in alaska hippies. I drive a hummer with an American flag decal on the rear, the american way.

August 7th, 2007 at 12:04 pmwhat a silly argument, gop. consider this: hybrid sales in america are still only 2.3% of new vehicle sales.
that kind of puts your one day’s worth of oil argument in perspective.
August 7th, 2007 at 12:05 pmNot to mention that a hurricane hit the Arabian peninsula for the first time in recorded history.
August 7th, 2007 at 12:07 pmyep, say goodbye to that alaskan oil that we’re going to sell to japan and china anyway, gop.
bet you didn’t see that coming.
say, when is that iraqi oil going to start paying for the war? 300,000,000 dollars a day and counting…

Top Ten Global Warming, Head-up-the-ass Talking Points (in order or argument):
1. Global Warming is a hoax: it’s about the coming World Government headed up by Al ‘Internet/Love Canal/Love Story/Sore Loserman’ Gore
August 7th, 2007 at 12:25 pm2. Nah, it’s not getting any warmer – it’s your menopause, you pinkos are all a lot of old women
3. But you said it was cooling in the 70s, now its warming? Wait a minute.
4. OK so it’s warming, but not that much – what about that little Ice Age?
5. So maybe it is warming a lot – it must be the sunspot cycle.
6. Well it can’t be the CO2 because the record shows that the CO2 lags the great temperature increase that I said wasn’t there in 1,2 and 3 above
7. OK, so it’s a large change in temperature, and it’s bigger than the little Ice Age and the CO2 causes it, not the sun and we released the CO2 – but we can’t do anything about it anyway. So keep your heel-to-the-steel and the plasma TV up loud.
8. Why should we do anything about it if the Indians and Chinese keep building power stations and cars?
9. Fixing it will break our economy. I’d rather be able to ‘buy cocktails in First Class’ right until the North Atlantic comes in my porthole.
10. Go Cheney Yourself

In a post filled with stupid statements, I’ve chosen to focus on only the most stupid (above).
DAL, can you enlighten us as to how the American people can change the climate “in an instant”?
Thanks. We’re all grateful.

Considering they’re the people responsible for propagating the global warming myth, this isn’t surprising at all.
Enough of this Globalist One World Government BS.
Propaganda straight out of the Report From Iron Mountain.

August 7th, 2007 at 12:26 pmtonka – your post is unnecessary, please refer to my post and simply say which talking points you feel in your p*ss at the present time. For example –
‘What Terry said, numbers 1, 1 and oh yes, 1 again”
I guess you really don’t have that much substantive to say, do you?
August 7th, 2007 at 12:41 pmWe could nuke the sun. We only threw a handful of bombs on Baghdad and look at the incredible change we’ve seen throughout the entire Middle East: everyone is in total harmony with the foolosophy of the US of A. There’s no reason to believe it will be different with the sun.
August 7th, 2007 at 12:48 pmThose of us who have always lived very close to the earth, who measure time by the seasons and time our work by reading the signs of nature have noticed a significant difference in life in the past 10-20 years.
Because of the heat and drought conditions, I’ve actually had to change my gardening methods here in Tennessee over the past several years. Spinach and strawberries will hardly grow here anymore. I have to plant certain vegetables earlier, and I had to move the main part of the garden our of the sun into an area that gets shade for at least half a day. I also installed soaker hoses to keep things growing right up until they’re ready to harvest, else I’d lose most of my vegetables – whereas before, sprinklers were only necessary a couple of times during the growing season.
I gave up on groundcover, grass, and flowers by the now-dry creekbed, where I can’t water easily once the water dries up – instead I’m planting drought resistant wildflowers. Although my roses used to thrive in an area out front, I’m in the process of moving the majority of the ones that survived to an area where they get afternoon shade. The jasmine, however, is a goner.
This year I’ve even had to water the trees, and still I lost two of the smaller leyland cyprus, and am on the edge of losing a spruce I planted last fall, and two that are several years old.
I have to get up before dawn to get anything done outside. I live in the shade of a mountain, where even mid-summer mornings used to be cool, and 15 years ago we slept with windows open at night from spring until late fall – yet temps were in the 80’s when I went to bed at 11 last night. By 8:30 this morning we were back in the 80’s. We have a heat advisory out the rest of the week – which means that the heat index will be above 110.
And I keep remembering, this is still cooler than the temperatures our troops are facing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If the American people cared about climate change, they would stop buying SUVs and large, inefficient homes. This is especially a problem in the northeast… interesting enough, the northeast is home to liberal politics. Hypocrites, anyone???
August 7th, 2007 at 1:34 pmI remember when I was in high school, a mere 20 years ago, global warming was accepted as FACT and we were all debating on what we should do about it. If I knew then what I know now, I’d have studied harder so I could afford a hybrid.
The heat index (north Florida) is 110 here today. Like missmolly, I will be experiencing rush hour without the aid of air conditioning. I may spend the night in my office. :(

This is an interesting axiom you are posing — we have SUVs and inefficient homes in the northeast, and we have liberal politics in the northeast; therefore, they must be connected and Democrats must be liars and hypocrites. This is like saying “we have dog owners here and we have cold winters — therefore, it’s obvious that dog owners like to shovel snow.”
I live in a red state and I would put our amount of SUVs and large inefficient homes up against yours. Could you post some data indicating that this is a bigger problem in the northeast than it is down here in Jesusland? And while you’re at it, could you also post some data indicating that it’s the Dems in your area who are driving the SUVs and living in the mansions, while the Repubs are driving hybrid cars and living in solar houses?
August 7th, 2007 at 2:11 pmTP and it’s mothership, Center for American Progress, are the pot calling the kettle black. While promoting the global warming alrarmist CAPand TP are profitting from clear-cutting and oil, gas and coal royalties.
CAP purchased about $1 million of Plum Creek Timber shares in 2004.
Plum Creek owns millions of acres in the US, including 90% of timber industry’s land in Montana – over 1.5 million acres of prime timber lands. It is stripping America’s forests at a rate greater than 500 million board feet per year, then redeveloping the land for huge real estate projects.
Plum Creek has not paid federal taxes since 1989.
Plum Creek profits from royalties and on properties rich in oil & gas and coal.
Plum Creek is financially tied to SPO Partners and Robert Bass, the Texas oil billionaire.
Plum Creek has proposed a huge development in Maine, the massive Moosehead Lake Project, outraging local conservation groups. Plum Creek has demonstrated a disregard for timber laws and natural resources.
http://www.nrcm.org/news_detail.asp?news=1053
Plum Creek is the “Darth Vader of the timber industry”, and is great contributor to the global warming problem with it’s clear cutting, conversion of forests to pavement and production of carbon fuels.
TP phonies, you’re the hypocrites.
