New York, Florida, Kansas, California, Virginia. What do these states have in common? They all had anti-terrorist license plates before Oklahoma did. Are they all tacky and silly? Yes, they have that in common, too.
So, why all the hatred and snideness directed toward Oklahoma? I have a theory..

First, very few people who shoot off their mouth on this blog probably even know there are other states that have them, but even if they did, the strong cultural and elitist bias they have to the south or rural states allows them to ignore facts and enjoy taking pot shots at Okies instead. A very good friend of mine, eruditeredneck.blogspot.com, coined the phrase: Jim-Bob-Crow. Go to his blog for the whole definition. (He's a Democrat, but I don't hold that against him.)

Oh, another fact some of you may be ignoring -- Timothy McVeigh was born in Pendleton, NEW YORK. (For those of you too lazy to look him up on Wikipedia, he was the one who bombed the Murrah building.) He was not an Okie, he was probably effed up before he ever got to Oklahoma. We Okies would appreciate it if you kept your homicidal maniacs in your own state.

And to whoever the moron was that equated what McVeigh did to being a fundamentalist Christian, I just want to say, shut the hell up. He never claimed to blow the building up because God told him to, he thought he was avenging the people at Waco. And, no, they weren't fundamentalist Christians either.

And the jokes about Okies riding around with guns in their big ol' trucks. Are you kidding me?? Hey, all you people from Chicago, New York, Los Angelos, St. Louis and every other big city on the coast -- what was the body count last night after dark? How many drive-by shootings did the police have to respond to? When was the last time you could walk freely in your city after dark with your family? Yeah, Okies with guns are the dangerous lunatics.

Ironically, a large population here, I would even go so far as to say the majority, are Democrats, although even when people from the north acknowledge that, their cultural bias and unfounded feelings of superiority still can't keep them from insulting us. The more I read things like this on blog sites the more I realize how lucky I am to be in Oklahoma, tacky license plates and all.

On Sept 10th 2001, most of the idiots from Oklahoma didn't even consider New York to be part of "Amurika". Now they do this. I want NY to issue an Oklahoma City plate... after all, that bombed out building ended up getting featured in an episode of the X Files.

Oh, and here's California's version of an "anti-terrorism" license plate:

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/online/elp/elp.htm

Second one down.

Now the controversy in California seems to be they've collected all this money from the sale of "tens of thousands" of these plates (advertised as money to be used for scholarships and anti-terrorism efforts), and the state hasn't used the money for anything.

"How bout a little honesty. The image should be the stack of naked gitmo inmates or even better, the infamous figure forced to stand on a box, electrical wires attached to his hands and a sheet over him. Terrorism is fought with diplomacy, not wars.

Comment by bob — August 8, 2007 @ 12:32 pm"

Pure BS. Terrorism is fought by killing the terrorists. They do not respond to diplomacy, they do not respond by "being nice" to them, they do not respond to thoughtful insight. Their express stated purpose is to kill the infidels, and that is you, I, and everyone else who will not subscribe to their form of muslim radicalism.

From looking at other "War on Terrorism" plates from around the country, I am thinking that the digital background a lot of you seem to think is camo, is actually supposed to be smoke.

Being a life long Oklahoman I find it highly insulting and ignorant of most of you to group Oklahoma in with all the other red states. If you know your political history you would know Oklahoma was a long time Blue State till the 90’s. So it may come as a surprise that many Democrats still reside in Oklahoma, me included of course. Shocking I know. I have no excuse for Inhofe, Coburn, and these odd license plates though. All I can say is I see none of the 3 when I’m out and about in Oklahoma. Just remember if you are insulting Oklahomans as a whole you are insulting some of your fellow Democrats as well.

Oh poor baby. If you don't want to be insulted, get off your ass and defeat Inhofe and Coburn, and write letters to your local newspaper pointing out how appalling these license plates are -- unless you're afraid your neighbors will come gunning for you if you do.

So now Al Qaeda has their "accomplishments" on display for all Americans to see. So if a state government is profiting off of an act carried out by terrorists, does that make them "terrorist sympathizers?" Just curious.

War is profitable! Long live the global war on terror! (I guess World War III wasn't catchy enough... either that or they wanted to avoid the inevitable linking of USA's international and domestic actions to that of Nazi Germany)

Normally a specialty plate of this kind has a charge added, and that money goes to the named charity or cause. If this plate cost extra, where does the money go - to the Republican National Committee?

As on of those Oklahoma Injuns, I like to think that the popular pictures of armed Geronimo & his homies, with the tagline "Homeland Security: fighting terrorism since 1492" would make a waaaay better licence plate!
See:
<a href="http://www.the13thstory.com/krg/HomelandSecurity1492.jpg" rel="nofollow">

I'd certainly buy one.</a>

If you live in OK, I recommend you get one. It'll pay for itself in speeding tickets not written.

Here's a couple from Alabama, check out the two at the bottom of the page:

http://www.ador.state.al.us/motorvehicle/militaryview.html

These are for military members/former military only, to recognize their service to our country. Have to have your military paperwork or a letter from base commander to get one.

Anyone check to see if Oklahoma's are the same way?

Doesn’t California have a “War on Terror” license plate as well?

Actually, what we have in Ca is a "War on Stupidity" license plate, w/ Jake in profile on it...
