Last night on the Colbert Report, host Stephen Colbert covered this past weekend’s YearlyKos convention, explaining “what a blogger is.” “It is someone who has a laptop, an axe to grind and their virginity,” said Colbert. Watch it:
Dr. Dog Wrong. Liberals here are treating it as a serious editorial.

What clearly bothers you and the right wing about Colbert, Stewart, Maher, and every other comedy show on TV, is that they ALL MOCK YOU.
They make a living off of MOCKING you, LOL.
Why?
Because its sooooooo easy to mock idiots like you.
It drives you crazy, that everyone in the country is watching Colbert, and you guys can’t tell a joke to save your lives. And you want to know why you guys can’t tell jokes? Because you ARE the jokes.
Listen stupid, Colbert and Stewart are not real journalists. It’s not real news. Their editorials are comedic acts, not serious news.

“Colbert exposes the truth about YearlyKos.” see? its IRONY. are bloggers really nazi’s and ku klux klan? no, they are not. Does Bill O’Reilly actually believe they are? well, yes, he says he does. The humor lies in the fact that conservative pundits are thoughtless ignorant outspoken simpletons, and people believe them. Colbert is satirising this format, by making statements that are so far fetched and off base, that only a conservative pundit could say it and actually believe it. he did it for the lulz.
Listen stupid, Colbert and Stewart are not real journalists. It’s not real news. Their editorials are comedic acts, not serious news.

Wow- your idiocy and lack of critical thinking knows no bounds. No wonder you were such an easy recruit for the Republican al-Qa’ida.
But seriously – Colbert and Jon Stewart may not be “serious journalists,” but they (and their highly capable writing staffs) are political satirists, following in the tradition of Mark Twain, Will Rogers, Thomas Nast, and the late Art Buchwald. While these are not “serious journalists,” they nevertheless have contributed significantly to political dialogue throughout this country’s history. To simply dismiss their work by saying “they’re just comedians” is to ignore a plethora of very important American literature.
And furthermore, they both happen to be very good interviewers, in their own way. I much prefer Jon Stewart’s upbeat but occasionally pointed interviewing style to the talking-point-enabling drivel on the “serious” cable news channels.
Stewart and Colbert do a great job in showing the serious issues of the day while injecting humor. Maybe some don’t get it. It does require some background knowledge of what is being discusses and the Fox watchers aren’t given the basics so I can see why some don’t get it.
Jon Stewart was the only one to notice what Hillary actually was saying-”she will take lobby money because lobbyists are real people like nurses and teachers, and then she will not listen to them’.
No “real” journalist caught the contradiction, so much for being just a comedian.
And Colbert was brilliant, so funny, I couldn’t stop laughing and I bet you Kos was cracking up too. Maybe we will see Kos on Colbert soon?
Did you hear about the atheist dyslexic physician?

Ah yes, I was thinking Jonathan Swift, but the humor is lost in history now unless you study early 18th England. Gulliver’s Travels are a lot funnier if you are an 18thC English historian…… Maybe there should be a comedic prize for satire….?
There probably should be an award for parody trolling too.
Absolutely hilarious. I wish the right had someone as talented on t.v. This site would be better if when you clicked the play button, the whole report would play.
Give me a break!
I haven’t spoken dog in years and I can’t remember if those were people years or dog years.
Besides, I AM right, according to the Rex James version.
I was sooooooooo hoping you would cover his skit last night.
The most telling thing about the skit was the audience’s stunned silence. By the time he state’s Kos is too young to grow a mustache, then shows him with Hitler’s trademark mustache, the crowd didn’t make a sound.
As much as you guys love to claim it was just brilliant satire, it was obvious that it hurt just a little bit, because it hit too close to home. I keep trying to tell you that your movement is obviously fascist, in that you won’t allow democratic processes to move forward naturally. You try to disrupt these processes and personally attack your opponents. O’Reilly is correct, you are little different from the Nazi’s and KKK.
Dr God and Smarterthanobody don’t get it. To them, Herblock was just a cartoonist and not one of the greatest editorialists of his day.
Colbert makes the Fox talkingheads look so stupid because he exposes their petty posturing. And the neo-cons who go on his show all squirm with discomfort as he pushes their nonsensical attitudes to the extreme.
While “The Talking Heads” were an ’80’s alternative music group, the term “talking head” refers to video news reports that shows the correspondent from the neck up, making them appear to be a “talking head”.
I took this from Wikipedia:
In broadcasting, slang for interview footage shot in a locked down medium shot of the subject’s head and shoulders. It also refers to an anchor, pundit, or other personality on news television.
Jason M. Hendler While “The Talking Heads†were an ’80’s alternative music group, the term “talking head†refers to video news reports that shows the correspondent from the neck up, making them appear to be a “talking headâ€.
Thank god you’re here Jason, I don’t know what I’d do with out you. :) I’m aware of his usage, but I try not to pass up chances at referencing awesome(or otherwise) 80’s bands.
At this point, liberal netrooters are using personal attacks to injure people and ruin their lives, which, to me, is equivalent to burning crosses and only one step short of lynchings and then genocide.
You are a fascist group, you just haven’t taken your final, inevitable steps.

Yay! More brilliant trolling from the Republican al-Qa’ida! First he criticizes us for attacking our opponents, then compares us to the Nazis and the Klu Klux Klan.
Perhaps the audience was silent because they recognized the serious truth behind the comedy that our present government is too dam* close to that of Hitler. I do clowning, including gospel clowning, and there as in most comedic venues it is recognized that comedy can be extremely serious and does not have to be all “yuk yuk”. The common elements are exaggeration and sudden shifts in communicative paths. Colbert does both extremely well.

He’s got a good point. It’s a very slippery slope from making fun of people on the Internet to genocide. That’s how the Spanish Inquisition started – some 15th Century blogger posted “Ferdinand II of Aragon is a big dummy lol” on andalusiamoriscos.org. Next thing you know, Jews and Muslims were being expelled from the Iberian peninsula left and right.
We know Hitler invaded foreign countries who had not attacked Germany using the threat of terrorism against the homeland as the justification for the invasions.
Hitler also supported removing civil liberties following a terrorist attack, and introduced his enabling act.
We also know the right wing has invaded and supports invading foreign countries who have not attacked the US, using the justification of terrorism against the homeland.
The right wing also has removed civil liberties following a terrorist attack, and introduced their Patriot Act.

And that’s just for starters.
It must suck to wake up every morning without any firm grip on reality whatsoever.

See?
This idiot still lumps Colbert and Stewart in with Cable news shows.
Conservatives are CAPITALISTS, not fascist. Fascism is merely the other side of the coin of communism – read up on it.
Actually, capitalism is on the other side of the coin from communism – one is an economic system based on free markets, one is a planned economy. Fascism is a political ideology. Perhaps coins on your home planet have three sides, but here they just have two sides (and no, the edge doesn’t count).
Yes, Colbert’s skits are some of the best on TV, but his slams on Kos were devastating, which left the crowd speechless.
Comment by Jason M. Hendler — August 8, 2007 @ 2:14 pm
Actually, the crowd laughed through the whole thing, even the Hitler moustache. No, it didn’t get as big a laugh as the burning cross e-card, but the Nazi/Kos segment did get laughs. Unlike you morons, the in-studio audience got that the joke was directed at Bill O’Reilly, not DailyKos.
Swiftboaters merely refuted John “can’t keep his ass down while hiding” Kerry claiming he was a hero.
Karl Rove just helped give Christian conservatives a means of stopping judicial activism and stand up for their desire to preserve marriage.
Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin were viciously savaged by the left before they eventually took up arms and savagely struck back.
O’Reilly defends people who want to celebrate Christmas against Grinches who want it banished from public life.
Free Republic is a haven for those who have been flogged with political correctness.
Newt Gingrich is a brilliant historian and policy maker, who got our Congress to function properly again – reforming welfare and passing NAFTA and GATT.

FYI — Getting companies to not sponsor O’Reilly’’s show does NOT equal disrupting anything other than his show. Why? Because he’s not running for office.
Members of the GOP, on the other hand, have been convicted of disrupting the democratic process.
Two New Hampshire Republicans who were involved pleaded guilty in 2004. Tobin — who led the Republican National Committee’s New England effort in 2002 and later became the region’s director for President George W. Bush’s re-election campaign of 2004 — was convicted in connection with the plot to jam the lines on Election Day at five Democratic get-out-the-vote banks. Also obstructed were the phones of the firefighters’ group, which was offering voters rides to the polls.

Um, fascism, by the definition of the man who came up with it, Mussolini, is the merger of the corporate sector with the government.
If a corporation were a government, how would you describe the politics of how it’s run? A Democracy? A Republic? A Parlimentary system? NO. They are a fascist dictatorship. Period.
BTW, we’re not calling you Nazis, just fascists. More in the Spanish or Italian mold but uniquely American. Deal with it.

I guess Hugo Chavez just merged international energy interests with his government, as opposed to merely seizing them. This is where communism and fascism gets blurry, because nations aren’t simply agricultural or industrial anymore. Some very poor nations have enterprises owned by foreign capitalists that can be seized.
Rhodesia was very productive and wealthy, when agriculture was owned and run by foreign nationals, then Rhodesians gained power, seized those lands and called the country Zimbabwe. Now they are all starving again, with their economy collapsed.
I wonder what Kos said about Colbert to get him upset. Kos can be vicious.

Thats most likley due to an issue with the clustering. I doubt TP has one server. They probably cache and cluster, and they may have recently added something like a content switch (a content switch is a device that accepts the HTTP connections on the front end and distributes them evenly to multiple clustered servers on the back end) which is sending you to a different server when you refresh. If you post your comment and then refresh, and the content switch sends you to a different server that hasn’t sync’d yet, it might not show your comment.

August 8th, 2007 at 12:51 pm“Colbert exposes the truth about YearlyKos.” see? its IRONY. are bloggers really nazi’s and ku klux klan? no, they are not.

August 8th, 2007 at 1:04 pmListen stupid, Colbert and Stewart are not real journalists. It’s not real news. Their editorials are comedic acts, not serious news.
Comment by Dr. Dog — August 8, 2007 @ 12:46 pm

Perhaps the audience was silent because they recognized the serious truth behind the comedy that our present government is too dam* close to that of Hitler. Hitler also supported removing civil liberties following a terrorist attack, and introduced his enabling act.
We also know the right wing has invaded and supports invading foreign countries who have not attacked the US, using the justification of terrorism against the homeland.

August 8th, 2007 at 2:40 pmBartlee, the inbreeding in you thinks there is such and animal as cable news. Perhaps I was to much like Stewart and Colbert in being sarcastic instead of spelling it out for you.

At this point, liberal netrooters are using personal attacks to injure people and ruin their lives, which, to me, is equivalent to burning crosses and only one step short of lynchings and then genocide.
You are a fascist group, you just haven’t taken your final, inevitable steps.
Dude, I’m a conservative in most regards, and a Card Carrying Republican so I can vote in primaries. But it’s gotten to the point where it’s nearly impossible for me to support the party like I did a few years ago. So be careful on how you categorize me please.
August 8th, 2007 at 2:44 pm#126, toaster,
Yes, you are free to assemble, but then inciting the mob to riot against a non-governmental target is fascism. Feel free to lobby the government, as everyone else does, but only fascists use threats and violence.
August 8th, 2007 at 2:44 pmHey guys is Bartlee Colbert? That is what I like about Colbert. he would post on a site of comments about him.
August 8th, 2007 at 2:45 pmSmarterthanpoo.
I’ve got a talking head for you.
Open wide.
August 8th, 2007 at 2:45 pm#130, squee,
I am independent, and lean libertarian, like Reagan. I voted for Perot twice, so I see nothing wrong with anyone’s views or voting tendencies. I do have a problem when individuals disrupt democratic processes to force their desired outcomes. I also have a problem with apathetic fools who stand-by when fascists commit their acts of thuggery.

Was there a riot at the YearlyKos convention? I didn’t hear anything about it. Who did they violently attack?

You mean like how you stood by and watched Bush and his fascists commited their acts of thuggery?
Is that what you mean?
August 8th, 2007 at 2:50 pmColbert, you insecure little man keep up the good work. you make me laugh and confuse the above and the majority of your fans.
U r a liberal pretending to be a conservative.
No, u r a conservative pretending to be a liberal pretending to be a conservative.

Wow, so you made your voice heard in 2000 when the Supreme Court interrupted the 2000 presidential election? And you just called this administration “fascists” and “thuggery”?
Wow, I had no idea you hated this administration so much.

You mean like firing U.S. attorneys for not aggressively pursuing trumped-up “voter fraud” cases? Is that the kind of disruption of democratic processes you’re talking about? I’m still trying to figure out what specific acts of “thuggery” you’re talking about.

Don’t be such a fag, FART&PEE.
August 8th, 2007 at 2:53 pmFYI — Getting companies to not sponsor O’Reilly’’s show does NOT equal disrupting anything other than his show. Why? Because he’s not running for office.
Members of the GOP, on the other hand, have been convicted of disrupting the democratic process.
For example:
Please direct your outrage toward the right people.
Thank you.

August 8th, 2007 at 2:54 pmNo, ur not Colbert. Open wide is more of a thug comment. Internet thugs scare me.

What was a hidden disease, schizophrenia is more readily diagnosed. And if someone you love has schizophrenia, recommend Zyprexa, a drug proven to reduce symptoms like auditory and visual hallucinations.
August 8th, 2007 at 2:57 pmWeight gain is a common side effect of Zyprexa.
White blood cell count may be reduced while on Zyprexa.
Have your doctor closely monitor you while on Zyprexa, as very rare but unexplained deaths have occured.
POOR POOR bartlee can not debate just attack. Colbert deserves a better champion.
I wonder what Kos said about Colbert to get him upset. Kos can be vicious.
August 8th, 2007 at 3:00 pmConservatives are CAPITALISTS, not fascist. Fascism is merely the other side of the coin of communism – read up on it.
August 8th, 2007 at 3:06 pmOnce again, a post I put up is removed, while the trolls still have free reign to post whatever the hell they want.
This has happened to numerous regulars over the past few months, with ZERO rhyme or reason. Sometimes the posts magically reappear, other times they don’t.
It’s like there’s some random script in the CSS that goes through and removes posts. Either that, or their new interns suck at their jobs.

August 8th, 2007 at 3:12 pmAnd the post is back!!
Can someone at TP explain this in some way? Seriously … you have my email addy — send me a message.
August 8th, 2007 at 3:13 pm#144, VP Bush,
I guess Hugo Chavez just merged international energy interests with his government, as opposed to merely seizing them.

August 8th, 2007 at 3:36 pmI’d buy that argument from TP if the post didn’t show up right after I posted it. But it shows up, goes away, shows up, goes away, shows up, goes away …
I’m quite familiar with WordPress and spam filters and they don’t work that way. Someone is manually taking them down and putting them back up.
Granted, it’s their site and they can take down whatever they want. But there just seems to be no rhyme nor reason as to why it happens.

I really think its technical issues.
August 8th, 2007 at 3:57 pmOkay … you’re smarter than me (a pretty low hurdle to clear, but still … ).
:-)
And you’re probably correct.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go get some heavier weight foil for my hat.

You show me an ‘independent’, ‘libertarian’ who condones this administration like Hendler has and I’ll show you another closet fascist looking to crawl back under a rock until the next opportunity to break out the brown shirt again. Gutless stormtrooper.

Jason Fact Mangler claimed to be a graduate of Stanford and claimed it to be a ‘Ivy League’ school. I laugh at him because (1) you can claim to be anything you like on a blog, it’s meaningless – I claim to be a turtle and you claim to be a saint (2) if you are going to claim something at least get your facts straight.
I fail to see what is lefty or elitist about my comment, but you can draw your own conclusions about Mr Hendler and his laughable pretensions.
