Graham poses for right-wing slander photo-op.»

TMZ.com obtained this photo of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) posing with a sign that reads, “Obama, Osama, and Chelsea’s Moma Say Cut and Run.” In a statement released Tuesday evening, Graham said, “I was handed the sign by a rally attendee as I was leaving. I should have been more careful and I apologize.”

graham

The sign is “nearly identical” to one that Romney posed next to two weeks ago — right down to the misspelling of “momma.” The sign Romney was photographed with said, “No to Obama, Osama, and Chelsea’s Moma.”

Right, should have been more careful to not get caught with his pants down.
    Ho, hum.

  2. raynman Says:

Sounds like the same RNC operative made both signs….

but no, that would mean that this wasn’t some awful coincidence, but a planned slander against the two leading candidates for the Democrat’s nomination… and the RNC doesn’t play games that way… no not at all

If the right-wingers would stop underfunding education, maybe their political base would be more intelligent and therefore taken more seriously. At least that’s what my moma told me.

  4. Bob Day Says:

Yeah, I hold the sign and if this get out to the media, I’ll just say i’m sorry and move on.

  5. toasterhead Says:

“My apologies, I thought the sign said ‘Frankie Say Relax,’” said Graham (R-SC), “I felt that Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s message of relaxation and not doing it when you want to go through it was a good bit of advice in this day and age.”

Graham added, “my apologies to Karim Abd’-al Hussein Obama Abu Malia al-Amriki and Whitewater Clinton for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

i think it’s interesting how when they cover the signs in the press, the signs are purported to read “obama - COMMA - Osama and chelsea’s moma” There is no comma there in EITHER of those signs. Why does the media (including TP!!??!) persist in perpetuating this fallacy?

  12. DRxJ Says:

By the way, what exactly is a “moma”?
Is that an adult beverage of orange juice and sparkling wine?
A toddler’s request of it’s mother for seconds?

Or just some idiot who can’t spell correctly? (Hello Mr. Pee and Joker!)

An educated base also means fewer people believing the earth is 6000 years old, more people understanding stem-cell research, more people really understanding evolution, and perhaps most importantly, more people with critical thinking skills—-like about why we’re in Iraq……maybe that’s too scary a prospect for the republicans?

  15. goraidh Says:

    I realize I should not feed the trolls…. but……

So what has the Dems lied about?????

Here is what this Pres has lied about…..

    - “when you hear…. wiretapps, wiretapps require a warrant” Pre leak
    - “this is 2005….. a different world” Post leak
    - “Sadam is trying to reconstitute his nuclear weapons program”
    - “Sadam has WMD”
    - “We have found them” (WMD) Turns out they are portable shit tanks.
    - “I will use force as a last resort” Turns out to be his FIRST resort.
    - “If someone in my administration leaked this information, they will no longer work in my administration” Rove, Cheney still there.

I could spend HOURS with this, but I have work to do…….

Bush has lied and cheated more than the devil himself…….

By the way…… Yes I hate him, but that is not why I want him tried for war crimes and shot!

It’s because he is tearing up our Constitution, and that is a TRAITOR. Anyone who supports that is also a TRAITOR to this country.

I did not like Bush 1 either, but I did not call for him to be tried for war crimes for the Gulf war because he was not messing with the Constitution.

    Comment by Matt — August 8, 2007 @ 9:50 am

Exactly. Critical thinkers are dangerous. The Republican base is composed entirely of morons (see post #10, for example) who can’t think for themselves and whose political ideology consists entirely of bumper-sticker slogans: “cut and run,” “flip-flop,” “obama osama,” etc. They’re not intelligent enough to grasp complexities of policy, and therefore vote based on two-word catchphrases. For years the Republicans have employed strategists to exploit this, coming up with brilliant marketing catchphrases such as “the death tax” and “the war on terror” to disguise awful and extremely harmful policies.

Now I’ll also criticize the Democrats for not adequately reaching these people. They, too, need to learn how to campaign by catchphrase. They’re not going to be successful if they only target the educated in their campaigns - they need to wake up to the reality that the majority of Americans are morons who can’t find North Korea or Saudi Arabia on a globe, and they need to better reach this constituency.

So far, their best argument against Hillary is that she’s a woman, she was photographed with some cleavage, and she is the wife of a guy who diddled his intern. Their best argument against Obama is that his last name is one letter off from Osama and his middle name is Hussein. The best argument against Edwards is that he spends a lot of money on haircuts and he’s “too pretty”.

In the meantime, their own candidates demonstrate their lack of literacy (AND intelligence) by posing with signs they don’t read.

Nice sign to bad it doesn’t mean anything.
Now it’s time for all the GOP and Bush supporters of the so called war to step up to the plate.

PM Brown will be withdrawing UK troops in Sept. then only American troops will be in the middle of the Iraq Civil War. With all the support Bush/Cheney have with spying on people and putting soldiers in the middle of the Iraq conflict. Those young bodied Americans should have no problem joining the military to make up for the UK troops that are leaving.
Most of the GOP only give lip service but some Americans believe in their hearts that Bush/Cheney are right to stay in Iraq and find those magic WMDs. Tony Blair is gone and with no lap dog Bush is alone. Yes Tony was paid well for his support and following orders but PM Brown isn’t interested in Bush/Cheney pay offs.
So let the GOP do all the trick of holding signs but today 6 more soldiers died in Iraq if anyone is interested.

  87. missmolly Says:

The only way this sign could be construed as “slander” is if it says something A) untrue and B) damaging about somebody else.

So let’s parse this. The sign is saying that Barack Obama, Osama bin Laden, and Hillary Clinton are saying “cut ‘n run”. We also acknowledge the obvious juxtaposition of the names “Obama” and “Osama” but we are already aware of the right-wing’s pathetic attempts to imply they are the same person.

None of the three has actually said this. Obama has gone on record as having opposed the war from the outset, and he has a plan for troop withdrawal. Repubs may refer to this as “cut ‘n run” but it isn’t so much slander as a tired soundbite. Ditto for Hillary — she voted to give Bush the power to use force, but now wants to withdraw on a timetable. Hardly “cut ‘n run” — but hardly slander, either.

And Osama bin Laden? The accusation of his position is incorrect no matter how you slice or spin it. He has communicated pretty clearly that he WANTS us to stay in Iraq. And why not? It’s taxing our military and our presence is the best marketing tool for Al Qaeda recruiting they’ve ever had. However, I’m not concerned about slandering Osama. Maybe if we tell enough lies about him, he will reveal his whereabouts to set the record straight.

My finding is that the sign is stupid, incorrect, contains punctuation and spelling errors and (from a graphics standpoint) doesn’t even have good design layout. But it isn’t slanderous. It just makes the person holding it look like a moron. Which is probably why Graham apologized for it.

No more immoral than the Democrat Presidential Candidates paying homage at YearlyKOS.

Okay, other that being an ideological dickhead who thinks Democrats are by definition evil and/or immoral?

How is the appearance of candidates at YK “immoral”?

And how is it more “immoral” than equating two US Senators with the most wanted criminal in the world?

  90. The Shadow Says:

Senator Graham you are a LIAR! You are also a COWARD! I have lost all respect for you, you BIGOT! How dare you compare a two US Senators to Bin Laden? You and the voters who elected you should be ashamed!

  91. missmolly Says:

It’s a good thing most of you who engage in such activity hide behind phony names, eh?

    Comment by O. Bigfoot — August 8, 2007 @ 10:46 am

Oh and “O. Bigfoot” - perhaps you’ll now let us all know your full name since you seem to have a problem with “phony names”?

    Hypocrite.

    Comment by margaret — August 8, 2007 @ 12:19 pm

It could be that IS his real name. In which case, he deserves our sympathy because he was probably teased a lot in school for it.

But seriously, I think O. Bigfoot was making the point that it’s easier to sling insults, call people names, and spread falsehoods from a position of anonymity. And I agree — there does seem to be an awful lot of that going on around here at times.

I prefer to be anonymous (I’m sure everybody has figured out that “missmolly” isn’t my real name) because in today’s world it pays to be prudent. I have no desire to be spammed or flamed, and I certainly don’t want some crazed person who disagrees with my views to figure out where I live.

Nevertheless, I feel a responsibility to post here as if I am talking to everybody in person, and use the same manners. And I use the same name each time I post, so people will know when I post something in Thread A that I’m the same person who posted another in Thread B. I wish everybody here felt the same way.

And my handle, “missmolly”? That’s because I miss the late, great Molly Ivins, and it’s my little tribute to her. I always looked forward to her columns, and I can’t help wondering what she would have to say nowadays.

  92. TC Says:

yeah, I apologize that I got caught…um, I mean, that I was holding the sign. Same as it ever was. SSDD.

  93. Beverly S. Hill Says:

    Keep it up, Lindsey.

After the next election you’ll be holding a sign that says “WILL WORK FOR FOOD!”

  94. J Lewd Says:

South Carolina: go figure. This guy’s just pissed because his family no longer owns the Obamas. Apparently, Sherman didn’t do a good enough job in SC. The only thing missing from the photo? His white, pointed hat and the sheet he wears with it.

  95. Probus Says:

No American should be compared to bin Laden who is a terrorist. Graham’s argument that he didn’t read the sign like Romney is a feeble defense.

  96. warren tarrah Says:

I know Lindsay want’s to see a “SAY NO TO GAYHAM” signs during his next election.

  97. J Lewd Says:

These sacks of shit (Romney included) think they’re being clever by apologizing for not reading the sign before posing with it. If that’s the case, I’ve got one for Graham: “My Other Hooded Sheet is at the Cleaners”. Don’t read it, dumbass: just pose for the photo op.

  98. Jay Randal Says:

Graham is a closeted hypocrite Gay guy, so he needs to shut up > PERIOD.

  99. Mike Toreno Says:

I think Senator Graham got punked. Why else would “Moma” be misspelled? Several of my liberal friends tell me that the first thing they noticed about the Romney sign was how retarded it made South Carolinians look. I had to hold my tongue because I couldn’t disagree.

I believe that the Graham sign is an insidious liberal plot to take advantage of Senator Graham’s good nature, to trick him into having his photo taken with a sign that makes him and his supporters look retarded. To allow people to make wisecracks such as “Here’s Graham the cracker holding his sign,” and similar remarks.

We, we conservatives are NOT retarded. It is you liberals who need to GET A BRAIN!

    Morans.
