Anyone hear about the 190,000 ak-47s the US military "lost" in Iraq a few years back??????

They're who is arming the anti-occupation "insurgents" in Iraq, not Iran.

Are you sorry for the lies you wrote about Iraq, Michael Gordon?

To stop bush, the treasonous media must be removed. Its always been the sold out media.

The problem we have, the media is not A FREE MEDIA. We are suppose to have a free press.

I have suggested many times that protesting at all news headquarters would be more effective.

Expose the traitors one name at a time.

Explosively Formed Projectiles aka Shaped Charges are at least 50 year old technology that is used extensively in what industry? That's right the oil industry.
Iraq is awash with shaped charges and people that know how to use them. Iraq needs
no help at all from Iran with this technology.

Just another aluminum-tube-and-WMD fabricated piece of war mongering propaganda.

The Bush cabal, on the wishes of their masters, the Federal Reserve Board, will do whatever necessary to false flag, lie, cheat, and deceive to find a pretext to attack Iran. The Iranian government wants nuclear power for energy, not weaponry. But of course Bush and the baddies say they're lying, and that a nuclear Iran is a threat to Israel and the other nations in the Middle East. The Iranians are allowed to enrich fuel rods for nuclear energy under the agreement they and 189 other countries signed on to, the Nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty. If I were running things in Iran I would want nuclear weapons so the mass murder disguised as war happening in non-nuclear Iraq, would no way happen in Iran. As Smedley Butler said, "War is a racket. Always has been."

Comment by Carmikl — August 9, 2007 @ 12:10 am

They will say anything to justify another preemptive invasion. Cheney and Bush know Congress will not give authorization so they will try to use the 2002 IWR to start a war with Iran. That would be an impeachable offense. They have even tried to tie Iran with the Taliban. The Iranians are Persians the Taliban are Sunnis. Also when the Afghanistan war started the Iranians were instrumental in helping us set up the Karzai government they were key to negotiations. Why would they align themselves with the Taliban now? It doesn't make any sense. Also the Iranian government is still about 10 years away from nuclear capability.

The last figure published for Americans killed by Iranian made IEDs was 170 in February 2007. Last month CNN’s Barbara Starr reported that 80% of the American’s killed in Iraq are killed by IEDs.

This month they tried a new statistic saying that 1/3 of the 79 Americans killed in July were killed by Iranian IEDs. Let's call that number 27. Add that to 170 and that's 197.

If IEDs have killed 80% of Americans killed in Iraq, and less than 200 were killed by Iranian made IEDs, that means that over 2700 Americans were killed by IEDs of other origins. Statistically the treat from Iranian IEDs is being well overplayed. If all Iranian IEDs were eliminated, IEDs from other sources would still pose the most serious threat to American armor.

We look downright silly complaining about Iran's prowess as a weapon maker. Iran is a second or third rate power. Our European allies as well as China and Russia have much more sophisticated technology and if Iran's IED's using technology that dates back 50 years can destroy our best tanks, imagine what a real technological power could do to our armored vehicles. We not spotlighting their strength, we are spotlighting our weakness. That's never a good idea in hostile world environment.

Bill Keller executive editor of the NY TIMES is the scion of the (past) CEO of Chevron Oil. He is married to the heiress to the Gilby gin fortune. Before Keller was apointed editor he wrote a extremely glowing profile of W in the Times Sunday magazine comparing W in greatness (in his opinion) to Ronald Reagan. Keller admits he was a pro Iraq invasion hawk. He is a neo-con and has probably spent more time at the white house in private meetings with the president than has been previously reported.

The big military story in Iraq is that THE WAR HAS SERVED AS A PROVING GROUND FOR ENEMIES OF THE US, who have developed CHEAP POWERFUL MEANS OF KILLING US SOLDIERS and defeating our tactics. We saw some of the fruit of this effort in the deafeat of the Israli army in Lebanon 2006 -- a catastrophe Bush hailed as a "great victory", but which set chills through reality-oriented Israeli's.

Whether Gordon is a Bush aparatchnik or merely a tool, he serves to direct our attention away from the central problem. This kind of coverage was routine during the Vietnam war, when there were stories every week about a new kind of bomb, or a new operation with a sexy code name to clamp down on the VC -- and failure to report on the fundamental political failures that led to the war and our inevitable defeat.

The US army cannot stay in Iraq. The readiness of the Army is deteriorating, and we have serious problems elsewhere in the world. Furthermore, we are incurring a staggering debt that will cripple efforts in the defense dept and out of it.

Why is it that the media thinks we should believe someone who has a track record of being incredibly wrong. We already know that the military believes 45 to 50% of the foreign insurgents in Iraq come through or from Saudi Arabia.

And why even respond to a poster who refers to the world's most formidable organization of terrorists as "Alkaida?" Come on, people. This guy's not here to argue a point - just to get on your nerves. He's got nothin'! Zilch! Nobody home!

Slightly OT (A repost from the other day. Need to be aware of info)
Read this whole article. Unbelievable... er well not really. Just more of the same.

<strong>Weapons Given to Iraq Are Missing
GAO Estimates 30% of Arms Are Unaccounted For</strong>
By Glenn Kessler
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, August 6, 2007; A01

<em>"The Pentagon has lost track of about 190,000 AK-47 assault rifles and pistols given to Iraqi security forces in 2004 and 2005, according to a new government report, raising fears that some of those weapons have fallen into the hands of insurgents fighting U.S. forces in Iraq. Iraqi security forces were virtually nonexistent in early 2004, and in June of that year Petraeus was brought in to build them up."</em>

Could this be the same General Patraeus that is going to report to us about the surge in September? Noooo! You're joking! BushCo put him in charge of the surge. That incompetent Patraeus of 2004 couldn't be the same guy as our competent General Patraeus that is in charge of the surge that is working so well now.
