Today, The Daily Politics, the blog of the New York Daily News, wrote about New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s (D) blog post on ThinkProgress yesterday, in which he stressed “the need for both passion and humility” in politics. The Daily Politics also highlighted comments by TP readers bilbobaggins, Frank J, and Philly Boy.
Damn. I knew I should have commented yesterday. Those elusive 15 minutes of fame!!

What’s the major difference between Hillary and Rudi?
Hillary’s SUPPOSED to wear dresses in public…
August 8th, 2007 at 11:56 amEveryone of the repugs running for office is pathetic. The repugs have nothing. No president’s coattails to attach; no platform that appeals to Americans; they have only war and tax cuts — both of those have aided the wealthy in defense and business, with nothing “trickling down to the masses.”
They are bereft of honor and integrity; their family values are non-existent. (Anyone read about the Young Republican chariman who had to resign recently? — He’s just another one of the pack.)
Any one of the candidates running on the Democratic ticket – regardless of their flaws – are 100% better than the current status and what the repugs have to offer.

What is it with these dorks and Rudy G? He’s a crappy and most likely crooked politician, and even less “moral” than Bill Clinton ever thought of being. Wow.

There are more pressing issues these days, like a war that the Dems want to retreat from.

What, the Iraqi Civil War? So you’re saying the Republican al-Qa’ida would rather have our troops continue to be slaughtered daily, correct? Way to support the troops, al-Qa’ida!

Alternatively to Wayne’s advice, I would advise you to research the history of one Caligula – focussing on the bit about the horse.
August 8th, 2007 at 12:56 pmBilly, don’t be a zero.
August 8th, 2007 at 1:01 pmYouu know that famous Oliver Wendell Holmes decision? That freedom of speech does not extend to yelling Rudy! in a crowded thread?
I think Spitzer’s going to weather this. He did the right things 1) copped to it; 2) fired them; 3) apologized with dignity; and 4) said ‘this is what I’ve learned from this.’
The 2008 election will go to whichever candidate will promise the people universal health care. Simple as that.
August 8th, 2007 at 1:01 pmBilly: “All of a sudden Libtards care about the personal lives of politicians. Rudy is going to kick Hillary’s dumb ass in 2008.”
Liberals in congress cared enough to push for a congressional censure. The bigger surprise is that conservatives all of a sudden DON’T care about personal lives and family values.
Dr. Dog: “It’s actually going to be Thompson/Rudy in the White House.”
Dream on, Dog. A guy who’s on his third wife, a woman who once killed puppies to demonstrate new medical gear and who, as his mistress, was brought into the house where his then current wife and kids were still living and sleeping, paired with a guy who once lobbied for pro-choice groups in DC and who jettisoned his wife of 25 years to marry a woman three years younger than his daughter???!!!
Does your dream include conservative christians actively supporting such a ticket?? Great. Everyone needs a dream. Just so you’ll know – at this point, Hillary has beaten Rudy in 12 out of the last 14 polls head-to-head and has never lost a poll to Fred. My prediction is that if this indeed is the Repub ticket, conservative christians will start their own party. I think they need their own party and like repubs who support greens, I’ll be happy to support the conservative christian party!
August 8th, 2007 at 1:14 pmBilly: “What do Bernard’s personal transgressions have to do with Rudy?”
1. Rudy’s support for Bernard to be the head of homeland security raise questions about Rudy’s commitment to honest government as well as his judgement regarding people and which people should be in important government roles – that’s something you look for in a president.
2. Rudy’s checkered past and lack of success in bringing members of organized crime to justice when he was a prosecutor are not enhanced by Bernard’s connections to organized crime.

August 8th, 2007 at 1:23 pmOne more bit of good news: the latest polling (Diego-Hotline) shows that only 27% of respondents said they will vote for the Repub for president regardless of who is the nominee. The same poll has 51% of respondents saying they will vote for the Dem no matter who the nominee is.
And, this is the Diego-Hotline Poll, which has traditionally been very friendly to repubs.
Have a nice day, republicans!
August 8th, 2007 at 1:23 pmMaybe I missed the point. What I got from this was that TP needs to get their act together in terms of parasitic troll posts. The troll described as “prolific” was “prolific” on that thread, busily bashing Spitzer. Otherwise? Not so much.
The critical piece of information is that the media is wising up to blogs, especially as a source of really ripe quotations. The more vile the better, especially as the media toadies to the O’Leillys of the world.
“This is what the liberal bloggers are saying about . . . ” will become the catch phrase, because the comments are not distinguished from the posting and because no distinction is made between commenters and trolls.
Unless TP wants to be known as a source for nasty right wing comments, some attempt at cleaning up the threads is absolutely critical.
August 8th, 2007 at 1:25 pmSo why did they profile two comments from conservatives and only one from a progressive? This would suggest that opposition to Spitzer’s remarks was running 2-to-1 against.
Oh wait — this is the New York Daily News. Never mind…
August 8th, 2007 at 2:01 pmI would like to make a comment that the NY Daily News is quite a fine newspaper. Reporting on comments in the blogosphere is a great service to readers all over the NY area and quite useful to bring the voice of the cyberpeople to the “offliners.” NY Daily News please quote me on that and keep up the fine work!
Oh BTW I am a Boston Terrier living in Montana and I am using the computer while my owner is at work. If that adds credibility to the officialness and seriousness of the ideas presented in my blog comment please take that into consideration.
Eagerly awaiting my MSM moment of fame!
Signed

YAY Think Progress being represented by trolls!!!!!
Way to go TP, you have let your troll problem get so bad that they are now being covered as the “prolific commentors” here. You could solve your troll problem very fast very inexpensively.
Until then, you guys will continue to be represented by trolls.
August 8th, 2007 at 4:59 pmthe frankj trooll is prolific only because of it’s low-level capability to copy-n-paste other’s material – without sourcing it …
…
at least benjamin didn’t have to work too hard on that article…
she’s good at copy-n-paste too!
but i thought this part was telling:
Some commentors (when not straying into other topics) thanked Spitzer…
