Cheney advocating confrontation with Iran.

McClatchy reports that behind the scenes “the president’s top aides have been engaged in an intensive internal debate over how to respond” to Iran. “Vice President Dick Cheney several weeks ago proposed launching airstrikes at suspected training camps in Iraq run by the Quds force, a special unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to two U.S. officials who are involved in Iran policy.”

It is hard to see how the following sentence, “Vice President Dick Cheney several weeks ago proposed launching airstrikes at suspected training camps in Iraq run by the Quds force, a special unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to two U.S. officials who are involved in Iran policy” can be read as advocating an attack on Iran. Rather, it advocates an attack within the borders of Iraq on a camp suspected of being run by Iran. While this may be reckless it is not an attack on Iran itself. It does not serve the purpose of honest and thoughtful discussion to attach it to a misleading header. This is particularly true for a web site that has made its name pointing out such misrepresentations on the part of the rightward leaning media.

Come back here tomrrow and read one of these threads from top to bottom, w/ the “Chimp leg-h*mper” this and the “nazi-ball*icker” that everywhere. Is this what you want to present to the world?

We have proven you can stop the trolls. You have to do it properly.

If a troll’s comment is nonsense, lable it as such and ignore the troll. When you address a comment to a troll directly, you let them into the conversation. The trolls are taking over thread after thread because you guys let them.

Go ahead, call all the names you want. YOU ACCOMPLISH nothing and just make yourselves look bad. The trolls are manipulatng you so easily and you don’t even know it. When you lose your temper and start calling names, you’re not in control of the thread – the trolls are.

You guys are getting led around by your balls and don’t even know it.

  23. james says:

re:13. If it there were a strike on an officially recognized US outpost of facility, then I would say that there may be some validity to what you say. But there is no indication from the text that this outpost is officially recognized by Iran. The probability (though this is speculation) is that Iran denies having any such military operation within in Iraq. If that is so, and I am assuming that it is, then it is misleading to equate the bombing of the training camp as being an attack on Iran. Countries have sovereignty only over there territorial borders and internationally recognized embassies – so that too would lead one to differentiate an attack on the camp from an attack on Iran itself.

  24. james says:

The header has been changed – Thanks TP for doing the right thing.

  25. Jay Randal says:

Cheney knows that bombing anything along the Iranian border would be an excuse to drop some bombs into Iran itself. Thus the hope of goading Iran to attack in reply and thus to justify Cheney’s dream of mass slaughter in using that as pretext to drop nukes on Iran.

This monster Cheney, and fellow thugs, are without a doubt, planning something to make sure that their chosen ones take over in 2009. I believe it. I have read 2 stories today about the threat of IRAN; something is in the works; (I “pray” it fails, of course, but this is not to say that something won’t be tried)…the drumbeat and the propaganda of Iraq took about a year === and we are almost at the year before next “election”..coincidence? I am beginning to think not. THESE MONSTERS CHENEY, ROVE, (and still involved Rummy) and Wolfowitz, Bill Kristol are planning something. WE HAVE TO STAY VILIGENT. something is planned so Americans, once again, follow like sheep, again, into the abyss.

  38. Keith says:

Conservatives complain that Iran is “MEDDLING” in Iraq. The outrage!!! They are “MEDDLING” in Iraq!! Don’t they see the utter hypocracy of this charge? At least Iran did not invade, occupy, and sell-off their resources-resulting in one million dead and four million refugees.

  39. ZalYanovsky says:

I have been pointing this out for days. Hopefully the regulars here will listen to you a little more than they listen to me. I work from 7:30 to 5:30. I can get in a couple of posts in the morning and then when I get home, I like to read what’s going on here. I get to about post 20 in every thread and realize that there is nothing there but trolls and the people who like to play with trolls.

I am firmly convinced that these people will be very disappointed if this site is ever purged of the trolls. They will no longer have a platform where they can prove their wit, their brilliance at countering the arguments of trolls. When, in truth, a 3rd grader could take down the regular trolls here.

Hoping that you all will finally all see the light.

  43. JPV says:

BTW, Saudi Arabia has been responsible for supporting about 60% of the insurgent activity in Iraq.

  45. Jay Randal says:

  72. Jay Randal says:

JPV > it seems TP at times has a bias. We are not allowed to criticise any J-wish members of Congress on here. That is why ‘AIPAC’ posts tend to get deleted. Just happens when a TP staff member is present for a few minutes.

Bush/Cheney looked to make suckers out of the Middle East now we see Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey leaders making plans together without the US. Bush illegally invaded Iraq got thousands of young soldiers dead all for Iraq oil. Now Iraq will keep it’s own oil and leave the US out. General Petraeus gave the Iraqis thousands of weapons, vest, bullets and money to carry on. Yes and Bush has given Middle East countries weapons and bombs. Now watch how they use these weapons against the United States. Americans can thank the Bush Administration for all our problems as their corruption, lies, torture, stealing will cost us all.

You do have a failure to comprehend what I say.

That is what the whole argument is about.

What do you expect me to sat?

    Pretty unreasonable.

  120. Keith says:

  121. Keith says:

This is not the first time it has happened. It is the second.

  122. JPark says:

K, maybe I do regularly fail to get what you are saying. I apologize.

  123. Phil says:

Dick doing his best Curtis LeMay impressions?

Where is this generations Kennedy brothers to make the smart decisions for these boobs?

  124. Keith says:

There is no maybe about it. Apology accepted.

  125. JPark says:

I was just being stubborn, Keith. Sorry.

  126. JPark says:

Then again, when you make a classless comment like “There is no maybe about it”. I don’t feel so much like apologizing anymore.

  127. JPark says:

It is like FU, sure every thing is good. No thanks.

  128. tony says:

” FNC House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has disclosed that she holds stock valued at up to $15,000 in Alcatel-Lucent (formerly Alcatel SA), a company with extensive investments in Iran and Sudan — nations that sponsor terrorism.

The disclosure of Pelosi’s holdings comes at the same time that legislation is making its way through the California legislature barring state pension fund managers from investing in companies, like Alcatel-Lucent, that do business with “terror-friendly” nations.

Sounds like Nancy made her some bad investments.
What’s that got to do with Cheney?

  130. Gregor Samsa says:

“[...]according to two U.S. officials who are involved in Iran policy.”

I am not sure there is such thing as an “Iran policy” in this administration. As a matter of fact, I am not sure they have a policy towards anything at all.

It would seem to me the Bush administration tries to solve their problems either with bombs, by burying their head in the sand, smearing critics and opponents, or a combination thereof.

Not much of a policy to speak of.

  131. dlet says:

    Cheney advocating confrontation with Iran.

Good. Let him go. I’ll personally supply him with as many weapons as he feels he needs…..on my dime. No questions. I’ll just have to see if my frequent flyer miles can get him there on the cheap.

“Ok, I am going to gloat. TP, don’t screw with your base. When you have Zooey and True complaining…listen, or you will have nothing but Mr. P’s.

    Comment by JPark — August 9, 2007″

It’s obvious that you don’t understand TP. Without us Conservatives driving traffic here, they would have to fold! You liberals bring nothing but rhetoric and I’m sure TP is completely embarrassed by it! Reading most of your posts most intelligent people would come to the conclusion that they are dealing with a bunch of 6th graders (zooey, park, blue).

  133. michael says:

cindy sheehan running against pelosi? I never dreamed I’d be rooting for the lowlife sheehan!

Everyone knows that being gay is a disease, you can’t be born gay.

However, there is a cure. It’s called “a good a$$-kicking.”

  140. LibertyLover says:

    Megliomania runs in families.

  141. mikeh says:

Cheney be a real vice president, that means stay out of the way and go kiss a baby. Do you have any respect for your so called “boss”?

  142. Probus says:

Bush needs to focus on the current war in Afghanistan and the civil war in Iraq before he can send our already over stretched military to attack Iran. Bush likes to start wars but he doesn’t know how to manage them competently and he doesn’t know what an exit strategy is. There is no justification for going into Iran.

  143. Tobey Tall says:

The United States has rarely lost any conventional military battle since at least 1950. Nor has it, at the same time, ever won a war. It has successfully overthrown governments through interventions or subversion but the political results of all its efforts – as in Afghanistan in the 1980s and Iran in 1953 – have often made its subsequent geopolitical position far, far more tenuous. In a word, in international affairs it bumbles very badly and it has made an already highly unstable world far more precarious than it otherwise would be if only the U.S. had left the world alone.,/B>

  144. Christopher says:

    Cheney is extremely dangerous.

All the more reason Nancy Pelosi needs to put impeachment back on the table where it always belonged and stop enabling these lunatic neocons.

  145. Jacob Donehoo says:

The only way to continue is through diplomatic efforts and pressure only in the form of sactions and verbal confrontations.

Sooner or later the population will realize that their president is deceiving them in proclaiming wealth and economic upsurge.
According to a recent survey 70% of the Iranian population favour normal relations with the United States

As the survey also suggests, it is vital not to disgruntle to population through demonizing the entire country, just because some autocrat is dominating.

The peaple of Iran will decide their future

  146. celtic cynic says:

Methinks Mr. Cheney should step up to the plate, fly his fat ass over to Teheran, then talk directly with government leaders there.
Instead he runs his fat mouth trying to incite others to do his bidding.

  147. the fly-man says:

Yeah and 2 older supreme court justices will retire, W will get to appoint 2 more federalist members and Cheney will run as a federalist in 08. Oh I forgot the corporate tax break Dear Leader is contemplating. I don’t think we’ve seen their arrogance in full bloom quite yet.

  148. missmolly says:

When I hear Cheney’s plans getting nuttier and nuttier, I am reminded of how the Iraqis set fire to Kuwaiti oil wells as their occupation was driven out of Kuwait. If they couldn’t win, they would at least leave a huge mess for the victors to have to deal with.

I suspect the Cheney-Iran scenario is similar. Look for an invasion closer to the end of his term — especially if polls are still indicating a decisive victory for the Democrats. If the neocons can’t win, they will at least leave a huge mess for the next people to have to deal with.

  149. the fly-man says:

What’s next a Disney Cruise liner will get attacked by a rouge pirate Venezuelan banana trader’s skiff?Boy that would do it. Think about it, Hugo Chavez called Bush the devil in front of the World’s premier political body. Are we ready to attack them and throw his dictator butt out too? Crushing a major region through force. Did Machmoud Ireallyneedajob ever make his comments regarding Israel’s future position on the planet while speaking at the UN? What are we going to have to give Egypt not to produce a bomb after we bomb Iran? W is 4 Wrecker.

And why should Darth change his modus operandi now? Having others do his dirty work has been successful his entire rotten, miserable chickenhawk life!

  151. TerrytheTurtle says:

How the times have changed. It seems like only yesterday, Dick Cheney’s company was breaking US law and trading with Iran and Dead Eye Dick was roving the world’s five-star hotels calling on Bill Clinton to open the embargo on Iran and allow him to make more money:

Keith; I migrated to the left, far-left in 1964. Goldwater did it!

  155. Keith says:

    Uncle Ho,

I was angrily responding to JPark calling me a blankety blank rightie.

In ‘64 I was fourteen and didn’t really know of the Left, even though I had read a lot of history.

Goldwater was to the left of today’s right—critical of Reagan, Falwell, Buchanan, and the anti-gay measures.

  156. Anon says:

This is the 2nd article about an Iran invasion. The “Mission Accomplished in Iran”-speech must be getting finalized.

  157. Anon says:

If you need money for questionable DoD contractors, the Summer Budget review is a good time to talk about invading Iran. It’s only a few more shopping days until the 2008 primaries start. The FY is about to start.
