Alternet reports, “Despite the ethnic bloodshed in Iraq, majorities of Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds are united in their disapproval of the proposed oil laws that Washington and Big Oil are pushing.” A recent poll of all Iraqi ethnic and sectarian groups across the political spectrum oppose the principles enshrined in the laws. “Considering the multiethnic bloodbath we’ve witnessed over the past four years, it’s an impressive display of Iraqi solidarity,” writes Joshua Holland.

August 9th, 2007 at 10:45 pmThe c.a.f.e. standards need to be raised & a simple step towards non-electric gadgets wherever feasible would rapidly free us from dependency on oil & coal. There are tailgate-sized propane powered freezers available & full sized refrigerators that are kerosene or propane powered; I’m sure NYC restaurants-with that recent blackout, would have appreciated a leader who pressured them to have off-grid refrigerators & stoves. There is alot more….hand-cranked blenders & coffee grinders, large 18th Century style windows to let in more natural light. Small things do add up, if you’ve ever been without electricity you quickly realize how so much of modern life is electrified, it’s the same with water-dishwashers, clothes washers, washing your hands, your dog, your children.

“Iraqis united in opposition to foreign control over oil”
Define control. No where in the PSAs does Iraq agree to hand ownership of their oil fields to foreign companies or states.
The Iraq Oil Ministry supports the model just as it has been used since the 60’s. Obviously someone at TP doesn’t have a clue what they’re talking about.

August 9th, 2007 at 11:47 pmPowell sold out his military in the most shameful fashion. He is the proximate cause of most of the american and Iraqi deaths. He is the reason many wingnuts point to Bush as having “never lied”, forgetting that the president bears the final responsibility. All of Powell’s Cheney’s, Rumsfeld’s, Rice’s and any other administration members’ lies are Bush’s lies. Hundreds of lies, repeated shamelessly, and eagerly parroted by the corporate flacks calling themselves journalists. There has been nothing positive accomplished by this administration for the American people, except the final destruction of the GOP, which is only a plus if it isn’t already too late to save this country from its fate. Fascism has arrived, wrapped in the flag and quoting scripture, just another capitalist cliché.

I kind of feel sorry for Powell. He trusted BushCo, and got thrown under the bus. Has anyone noticed that the Repukes aren’t floating his name as a Presidential or VP candidate? Oh..no. That’s cool. Glad to see that people are on the watch and still can dig questions out. I think there will be a time when secrets will rule. Then no one will be aware of who the person is next to them. Kinda like the Soviet style of rule. Fear speaking out because your neighbor might be an informant.
Kos will/has to answer this.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:39 amYes Markos at Kos needs to address the charge in PrisonPlanet.com.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:42 amThere will be many more attacks after they are done with Kos.

That’s the biggest question in my mind…..why did this happen soon after the convention? Could it be because Kos was in the press….fresh in the minds of the stupid…..now a slander on him….what will be remembered by the sheeple? No matter the truth.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:42 amIn the article” “I applied to the CIA and I went all the way to the end, I mean it was to the point where I was going to sign papers to become Clandestine Services.” (Markos Alberto Moulitsas Zuniga)
August 10th, 2007 at 12:46 amdlet > article could be slander, but PrisonPlanet is very anti-Bush.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:47 amYes Markos at Kos needs to address the charge in PrisonPlanet.com.
Comment by Jay Randal
I suggest he ignores it Jay, Prison Planet is seen as a looney site.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:48 amIn fact I would highly suggest that Markos address the charge today. If he ignores it, then it can grow legs even if untrue.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:50 amTau > PrisonPlanet is no more looney than any other blog site. ConspiracyPlanet.com is one of the real lunatic sites on the web.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:52 amarticle could be slander, but PrisonPlanet is very anti-Bush.
Comment by Jay Randal
I am not saying PP put out slander…I am just questioning why this info suddenly came out now. With Kos in the news spotlight…all the sudden he is a CIA plant? Info that causes direct harm should always be questioned as to its motive for being released. I would like to know who got wind of this and why….
August 10th, 2007 at 12:53 amdlet > article could be slander, but PrisonPlanet is very anti-Bush.
Comment by Jay Randal
PrisonPlanet is pretty far out there, IMHO
They are like a far left Drudge Report.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:53 amLots of conspirisy using very flimsy proof. Not all articles, but alot are like that
We will see how Markos handles this charge. If phony then he can refute it with evidence. If true, then he will probably vanish to Greece.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:54 amIf he ignores it, then it can grow legs even if untrue.
Comment by Jay Randal
Are you kidding me. It has legs already even if untrue. Rush will babble about tomorrow….dittoheads will be everywhere spewing conjecture…..MSM will do a piece……..Couric is looking for a bump……
August 10th, 2007 at 12:56 amWayne > some articles on PrisonPlanet error on the side of unproven conspiracy. Some end up having legs. I am unsure about this one about Kos.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:56 amdlet > that could happen. Notice if Drudge goes with the story today.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:58 amIf the charge was planted, then the right-wing blogs and Rush Limbaugh will launch all out attack on Kos today.

However, the reason that they are united in opposing the deal, is because each of the sects wants to control their own share. They are really “united” in the sense that, they do not want to cooperate, or come together as one Iraqi people. They would rather stay separated.

August 10th, 2007 at 3:31 amIf you think about it, this Kos.-CIA rumor just might be a slam against both Kos. AND the CIA..
There are plenty of career CIA. who detest Bush/Cheney/Rove, who still blame the CIA. for faulty intel..
This claim about Kos. is a slam against both of them.
And even if Kos. did work for, or apply to, the CIA.~ So what!!
August 10th, 2007 at 3:32 amThis is Rovian, no doubt.
Good to see the people united against the thieves who invaded them.
August 10th, 2007 at 3:34 amProbus and mikeh,
Y’all are some fools!
The only reason that they law was rejected is because separatists are putting their own people above the rest of the Iraqis. The Kurds want a fat piece of the action, so do the Sunnis. The Iraqis are not united, they are money grubbing imbecils and they are probably going to forfeit any chance of seeing some dough, because they can’t work together for the best interests of the Iraqi people as a whole.
August 10th, 2007 at 4:39 amThe United States has rarely lost any conventional military battle since at least 1950. Nor has it, at the same time, ever won a war. It has successfully overthrown governments through interventions or subversion but the political results of all its efforts – as in Afghanistan in the 1980s and Iran in 1953 – have often made its subsequent geopolitical position far, far more tenuous. In a word, in international affairs it bumbles very badly and it has made an already highly unstable world far more precarious than it otherwise would be if only the U.S. had left the world alone.
everyone in the world can see this except the 28% of mongrels in the US
August 10th, 2007 at 5:53 amIf the Iraqis are as “sovereign” as Bush claims them to be, then they and only they should decide what to do with their oil revenues and how they should be distributed. I am glad so see Iraqis come together on this one issue.
August 10th, 2007 at 6:12 am#’s 195 and 196
Probus, I agree.
Big oil will and always has had a dominating hand in dictating government policy in oil-rich nations. Washington’s role should only be to keep these power brokers in check. Instead, I’m afraid the only check will be a big-fat oil laden check to the DC power brokers.
Did anyone really believe for a moment that Iraq oil would pay for our invasion?
And Tobey. Yeah, it scares me that walking among us are thes 28 percenters.
August 10th, 2007 at 7:36 amThat George W Bush certainly is the great uniter. Now who would have ever thought that “W” could unite the Iraqis just by trying to steal their oil. George W Bush never ceases to amaze me./sarc off
