White House worried about Powell’s Iraq skepticism.

Syndey Blumenthal reports that Steven Hadley and other White House officials “are taking Powell’s early skepticism toward the surge and willingness to express it as a potential sign that he will swoop down on them” just after Gen. Petraeus “asks for more forbearance for the president’s policy” in September. Blumenthal adds that the “release of a documentary on the administration’s failures in Iraq, ‘No End in Sight‘… has the White House spooked” because “it might augur to upset their September rollout.”

We can leave a small amount of troops there to root out terror cells and make they don’t set up any major camps, but running Iraq needs to finally be left to iraqis.

The trolls know alot of what they post is sheer nonsense. They took over a thread late last night and were bragging about how dump TP posterw were for letting them do it.

    Comment by RUCerious — August 9, 2007 @ 3:13 pm

The trolls and the wingnuts don’t care if they never win, they just don’t want to lose. They don’t care if we lose money (billions of dollars of it), if we lose American lives (over 3,600 so far), if we lose our standing with the rest of the world (they are pretty much isolationists, anyway), or lose our security (Al Qaeda is getting stronger, not weaker) — just so long as we don’t “LOSE THIS WAR”!

Either that, or they equate Iraq with a sex act — pulling out before the job is done is “unmanly” so they feel they must keep pumping away.

Either way — it’s pretty stupid reasoning.

Bush/Cheney can always say he’s lying because he lied for them when they needed the World and Americans to think Iraq had WMDs and the famous mustard gas that would kill all Americans in 15 minutes. Connie did her job well with the mustard gas lie and it worked Americans trusted her words too.

  81. Probus says:

Unfortunately Powell’s candor has come too late for our troops who have died or have been seriously injured in Iraq. It is obvious that the surge has failed. Petraeus will only ask for more time in September. It is pointless to give more time to a policy that is flawed. Instead of worrying about a film they should instead focus on changing this failed policy.

  82. bilbobaggins says:

“Why do want America to lose?
    Comment by Habalaarz”

We have nothing left to lose in Iraq except for more American lives. We won the war when we took out Saddam Hussein. We have lost the occupation because there is no way that an occupation is winnable. It is time for us to turn over Iraq to the people who live there and have a vested interest in their country. Iraq is NOT going to give us their oil, so there is no reason to stay one day longer.

And please don’t give me any crap about how Iraq will descend into chaos if we leave. It’s already chaos and could hardly get any worse.

Care to discuss what concerns let us consider him our hero as well when Ronnie was president? Rumsfeld must have thought he was pretty cool too because he spend some time planning strategy with him and shook his hand in the end…

  84. Marie says:

Powell had opportunities to speak out in the past – and he has let them pass. Why does anyone think he will speak now? In defense of Petraeus? In defense of McCain (to whom he just donated $2300?) Why did he let himself become an example of Bush administration mendacity, thereby tarnishing his own reputation; if he were planning to blast the administration, I don’t see why he would do so now.
Powell had some hills to climb in restoring his reputation after his involvement in My Lai – then in Desert Storm, he seemed to have overcome his past – then he laid down in front of the Bush W. bus, and now W is afraid he will suddenly tell the truth?
At this point, it seems to be too late.

  85. Anon says:

I’m not confidence this WH “concern” is real: Powell hasn’t been asked to testify.

This appears to be irrelevant, even if true. Parsing: WH “concern” doesn’t mean the WH is “concerned” or doing anything responsible.
