i hate to say this but you elected them. im not American but i do live in a democracy. the ppl who get in are the people who have decided to run for office and get the support of a lot of people. the only other liberal democracy i can think of that has the same degree of bigotry and religious problems is France and they make up for it by being very internationally reasonable. also their politics are strongly held by the ppl (for example the riots that occured in 2005) and so the balance between the right and the left is upheld. You can say alot about a country by the people it elects

Well besides completely misunderstanding the Constitution as everyone else has touched on... The founding fathers also seemed to envision a democracy where only white male land-owners could vote. We've obviously (and for good reason) strayed away from this as our country became more plural. Even if the founding fathers wanted a "Christian Nation" it's irrelevant, because we've finally realized that a secular government is the best way to protect religious freedoms for EVERYONE.

As long as we're going to allow prayer in this official context, let's let everybody get a shot at it. And why not put an atheist up there to talk about reason, reality and the importance of what we do in THIS world.

And people keep voting for them.
If the people in his district truly do not believe that way, then they need to start a recall.
It is time that We The People take back OUR country.

Excellent point about the founding fathers being Free Masons as well as Deists, because that slipped my mind like most others.

The Founding fathers were FREEMASONS. Freemasonry's rituals involved the honor and worship of God, but the book on the altar could just as well be the Quran or the Bhagavad-Gita as the Bible.
This is a Masonic country, and our ideals Masonic ideals.

Christians yawp about God and prayer, as if belief in God means belief in Jesus Christ as God on Earth. Well, even with In God We Trust, look at the Great Seal of the United States. Not a cross anywhere, but an Egyptian pyramid, "A New Order of the Ages', and an eye in a tetrahedron.

Look for any of that in the heraldry of the nations--the Christian nations, each and every one--of Europe.

Bigfoot, all the war in Iraq has accomplished, according to our own intelligence community and State Department, has been to further radicalize the muslim world and greatly increase the ability of al Qaeda to recruit new terrorists. On 9-11, we were attacked by 15 Saudis, 2 Egyptians, a Jordanian and a citizen of UAE. Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact, 45 to 50% of the "muslim extremists" we fight today in Iraq actually come from or through Saudi Arabia.

The war hasn't stopped islamic terrorists from attacking other targets. There have been attacks in Indonesia, Britain and Spain. Our own government has just told us they expect another large attack on our soil very soon. I would rather we concentrate on protecting our own people than inserting ourselves into the middle of a civil war on the other side of the planet.

And, every major Dem candidate with the exception of Joe Biden wants out of Iraq. Clinton has said clearly that if we're not out by the time she takes office, she will act quickly to get us out. Obama is right there with her. Edwards is to the left of her. The vast majority of Dems have already voted to start removing troops - as I'm sure you know, their attempts have been thwarted by filibusters and veto threats.

"John Sacks: “We are fighting an enemy who has attacked us - a just war.”

No, wrong again. Iraq has never attacked us. Iraq had nothing to do with the 9-11 attack.

Comment by Ret. Col. Jack Ripper — August 10, 2007 @ 5:40 pm"

You are the one who is wrong, Jack. We are fighting Muslim extremists in Iraq. It has become a focal point for their activities. It is keeping them busy fighting there rather than giving them the time to organize and carry out attacks here, as they have done in the past. We keep the pressure on them, in their own sandbox, and we are safer here at home.

You refuse to admit that this strategy is working, but that does not change the fact that it is, indeed, working.

Most of congress, Democrat or Republican, agrees that this strategy is working, and therefore, we are still in Iraq, with no deadline for pulling out.

Each top-tier presidential candidate agrees that this strategy is working, therefore each top-tier presidential candidate, Democrat or Republican, have stated they have no plans to vacate Iraq in the near-term.

Actions speak louder than words. Your Democrats made their pledges to the far-left, got your votes, and what have they done for you lately?

Who knows maybe some of the small-minded trolls here have starring roles. Watch them squirm as they try to explain why they are not in the military. At the end is a sad scene in which a poor kid keeps trying to convince himself as to how gay he isn't. Max has another great video about the christian right that is truly scary.

Bigfoot: "Go take your hatred for your country elsewhere."

So, I take it you are proud of our accomplishments on Terry's list. Say, what would you say is the more patriotic position: to be aware of our mistakes as a country and strive to never make them again, or to pretend that we've never made mistakes?

John Sacks: "Total freedom will become anarchy."

No, people are not free in a state of anarchy. In a state of anarchy, the powerful will deprive people of their freedom. Secular civil government in which people have a say protects freedom more than it stifles it.
